PERSONALITY

Ellery generally keeps to herself, counter to her inner craving of attention and belonging. She is awkward and distracted and often appears to leave this world and enter her own. Finds it difficult to hold conversations and is often seen muttering to herself when under immense stress.

MENTAL HEALTH:

Emily suffers from Dissociative Identity Disorder. Growing up she was passed around from one doctor to the next as they struggled to determine the extent of her condition. She has tried any and every medication both known and unknown in her parents hunt for a cure, switching doctors whenever one would feel uncomfortable with pursuing a new untested method of rehabilitation, and finding one more experimental in practice to fix their child. None of it worked, some of it actually made her condition worse. Over the years, one alternate personality grew into two, which grew into three. Three separate, independent entities all sharing Emily’s mind.

MISCELLANEOUS:

Emily came to Oswald Asylum about a month ago, when the latest cocktail of pills had failed to relieve the headaches and the voices, upon the recommendation of a particularly controversial doctor still living in the stone ages of shock therapy. Her parents had of course heard of shock therapy and to their knowledge the doctor had never used this method on their daughter. It was all rumors and speculations, the horror stories of over-protective helicopter parents who could not face the fact that they needed to seek outside help for their child. Emily’s parents abhorred helicopters parents (or, her mother did at least). Always snooty, marching around with their heads held high like they knew what was best and no other parent could compete with their superiority. Emily’s mother knew what was best for her daughter, and what was best was professional help.

Oswald was a live-in facility. They had yet to try live-in treatment and while her parents had been hesitant, the ‘Shock Doctor’ had insisted. They met with the board, petitioned their case, and Emily was enrolled by the next day. She arrived a few days after that, on a Monday, and is doing well. Or, so the letters her parents receive every week say. The handwriting is a little strained and maybe a tad too fancy, but they are always signed ‘Emily Rose’ in her unmistakable cursive so they have no reason to doubt.​

sexuality: A little early for labels, aren't we? Max seems a little more interested in those of the female variety, but for now let's leave it at "questioning... probably straight".

nationality: DNA tests indicate Israeli, Greek and French descent, but really who knows? Max's birth records are long gone.

in-depth personality: Despite his severely atypical behavior patterns, it's clear that Max has a lot of spirit and a clear imaginative streak. He has an amazing long term memory, seemingly able to recall minute details almost perfectly from events long in the past. How much of his eccentricity is innocent creativity and how much is paranoid delusion is unclear at best.

A lot of the time he seems nervous, easily agitated and on-edge, but who wouldn't be in this decrepit asylum?
Touch him or his things, and expect to be shouted at.

He'll rarely approach people of his own accord, but he's been shown to be incredibly observant of the other people who live and work in Oswald Asylum, sometimes simply following people around out of curiosity. He isn't shy, just... aloof, and not particularly close to anyone.

He's been observed telling lies for seemingly no reason, hen turnint around plainly telling the truth even when it lands him in serious trouble. Long story short, whether or not Max is trustworthy depends entirely on circumstance, or perhaps just random happenstance.

likes: Reading. He used to draw a lot, but staff were worried about the possibility that his drawings were enforcing his delusions, and after he managed to unlock his room with a pen cap, he's not allowed pens or paper anymore. Mostly he just seems to daydream or wander...
dislikes: Most foods. It's a struggle to get him to eat anything, take medication, etc. He also hates being touched or grabbed, being forced to stay in the same place for a very long time, and the color purple.
fears: Suffocating, needles, sudden noises
mental stability: It isn't truly clear. He seems fairly lucid at some times, and other times he's helplessly lost in a cloud of delusions.
emotional stability: He has specific triggers, but with observation he's becoming more predictable.
pet peeves: Repetitive routines, people who talk very slow, being told to re-evaluate his beliefs.

mental health info: His behavior seems to indicate Schizotypal Personality Disorder, or perhaps atypical Autism and early signs of severe psychosis. Whatever the diagnosis, Max has some problems with communication, emotional control and delusional thinking.

He is fully verbal (maybe even hyperverbal, with an extremely large vocabulary for his age), but doesn't know how to initiate or hold a conversation, often just walking into an existing encounter and offering an aloof string of words, and is just as likely to simply wander away from someone speaking to him. He has severe difficulty understanding the emotional states of others, or predicting how they may react to his statements or actions, More often than not, he seems quite content to simply secluded himself from his peers.

He seems to believe in... strange things, and unknown connections and correspondencies, but can't elaborate on this in a way that is understandable to the staff. He has difficulty separating fiction from reality.

Max enjoys books of all kinds, and will start reading anything he can get his hands on, from 19th century novels to refrigerator repair manuals.
It is recommended that his access to literature be filtered and controlled, as it may be promoting his delusional thinking and anti-social behavior.

Being touched unexpectedly, pulled away from his books or challenged on his delusions may trigger a severe emotional outburst. When anxious, his already stilted and rambling speech can become unintelligible stammering or utterly nonsensical word salad. He may lash out physically, attempt to run away, or otherwise cause disturbance to other patients and staff.

He has, on multiple occasions, attempted to escape the facility by lockpicking the window and climbing the fence. For this reason, he is forbidden anything that may be used as a lockpick, including paper clips, wrenches, credit cards and hair pins.

Due to severe reactions to doutine, Max's prescription has been moved from once an hour to once every two hours, plus daily antipsychotics, and a sedative if he starts to break down or won't sleep.

in-depth personality: Given most conditions, Ilya is a gentle giant, or more of an bull in a China shop; over-aware of his size and strength, he has conditioned himself to be wary of himself and his surroundings. Though he holds a lot of self-doubt for himself, he has a lot of faith in others, willing to go to extreme lengths to protect and remain loyal for those he deems worth it. He is in no way submissive however; he is extremely compulsive in terms of his reactions after years and years of relying on instinct rather than intuition, often uncontrollable and unstoppable at a point - until its too late. He is aware of how threatening his presence is. Usually he tries to sway people away from that notion, but he isn't averse to using it to his advantage. He is generally cheery and gentle, often fighting his impulses to protect himself first; conflicted with his primal instincts versus his social rationality.

clementine is very intelligent to say the least, she enjoys more quiet and academic things like reading and poetry, she is very calm and soft-spoken, she actually rarely speaks unless translating for her brother. though she does in fact harbor a darker side in her that is where her almost snake-like cunning comes from, she also has grown to be a tad manipulative though she is still quite naïve and child-like despite her more mature mentality.

Suffice to say, he finds it... difficult to make friends, despite him craving it deep down.
