Our Story
Black Mesa Incident
2002, exact date unknown.
After a survey party brought a crystal from the borderworld of Xen into an anti-mass spectrometer to determine the elemental properties of the sample, a few particular scientists accidentally caused a Resonance Cascade, a phenomenon that causes rifts from other dimensions to open.
Through these rifts, wildlife and sentient beings such as Vortigaunts originating from Xen, unwillingly travelled to our dimension, to Earth. In an effort to stop the Resonance Cascade and cover up the happening of it, the HECU came to Black Mesa to eliminate all witnesses and destroy the Black Mesa facility.
The Dark Years
2003 - 2019, exact date unknown.
Sadly, destroying Black Mesa did not stop the Resonance Cascade.
Spreaded around Earth, events such as "portal storms" started to occur, as well as more rifts opening to create a one-way passage between two dimensions. In a few years time, Earth was slowly getting invaded by Xen wildlife and radiation started to make various locations uninhabitable.
As a result to this, almost all members of the NATO decided to move people into protected cities around Earth, one of the most notable being City Seventeen. During the Dark Years, most technological advancement has ceased, causing Humankind to be stuck in the early 2000's. After years and years of reffering to cities as numbers, the original city names were lost in time. More and more designated safe-cities were overrun by Xen wildlife and other events, almost 60% of the Human population died during the dark years.
The Seven Hour War
2019, exact date unknown.
In the year 2019, another rift had opened up which created another passage to our dimension from Xen's.
This time, an empire known as the Universal Union travelled through. On the borderworld of Xen, this empire was already looking to enslave the Vortigaunt race, as well as the Nihilanth's race into their warmachine.
The war between inter-dimensional species only lasted seven hours. The Universal Union's forces were overwhelming, millions of people were wiped out in this short timespan. Ultimately, the NATO surrendered to the Universal Union and was disbanded shortly after.
The Occupation
2029, current day.
The Universal Union, nicknamed the Combine, is the dominant force on Earth. Even less cities survived. One of the safest cities, City Seventeen, has become the headquarters for the Combine on Earth, as the Combine is currently stuck on Earth due to underdeveloped teleportation techniques.
Most of the cities have undergone a makeover. Where there used to be open streets, most have been blocked off by barriers.
A few huge metal structures, known as Citadels, dot the Earth.
The oceans are slowly being drained, mankind mined for military resources to be conscripted into the Universal Union, while Earth Administrator Doctor Breen tries his best to preserve Humanity at all costs. Not everyone agrees with the way things are being handled.
Around Earth, multiple factions have grown out of the ground, attempting to either destroy the Combine's occupation on Earth, or to help the Combine to achieve their goals on Earth.
