overview.
The snow-capped summits of Crystal Peak glittered in the early morning sunlight, the fresh layer of white powder untouched as of yet, acting as a blanket to cover what remained of the previous night’s mistakes and festivities.
The scene was something out of a holiday greeting card, and in the middle of it all, nestled in a clearing between the tall pines that dotted the place, sat the La Luna Ski Resort.
Despite its popularity, the building was in pristine condition, with facilities being just as shiny as the day it had opened, much like the people that passed through. It wasn’t a regular tourist destination but a privilege that only those wealthy and influential enough were fortunate enough to partake in.
There’s no such thing as true perfection, though, and the richly decorated walls of La Luna were the home of many a dark secret.
For most outsiders looking in, those in powerful positions in society—anyone with money, to be specific—were seen as untouchable, above the problems of everyday life, but it’d never been anything but a façade.
They were no better at hiding it than anyone else, but they could afford the stronger forms of coping to make it seem like they were. The unhappy marriages, escape attempts, and forced amiability could all be lost beneath the swirl of designer clothes and sparkle of unnaturally white teeth.
That’s all it ever was, though: petty relationship drama.
At the end of the day, anyone of any consequence truly was immune to real misfortune because whatever trouble they found themselves in, they could always buy their way out of it.
Besides, La Luna was the last place in the world that a tragedy of that drastic proportion would ever take place. Not only did it pride itself on being a nicely-kept resort, but a safe one to boot.
What was the worst that could happen? Someone falling off the ski lift? That’d be absurd. There were regulations in place to prevent such a thing, so long as the power was up and running.
No, no. Nothing could shatter the picture perfect illusion that is La Luna...
Right?

star point
the town
A sleepy little town nestled in a mountain basin in central Colorado, Star Point was first founded in 1903 by upper class city dwellers looking to escape the hustle and bustle of it all.
Since, the town has expanded to include two school systems, a five star ski resort and a shopping mall, along with several renowned family owned business that have a little bit of everything, for everyone.
sphs
public school
A part of Star Point’s public education system, SPHS is where those not fortunate enough to afford the college-adjacent tuition prices of Kingsley Academy send their children to further their education.
While it’s crumbling stone faculties and underpaid staff don’t speak to the value of the lessons taught within the school’s walls, SPHS will have your kid ready for college and beyond by the time they leave it’s halls!
kingsley academy
private school
Kingsley Academy was first opened in 1997 after Margot Kingsley, owner and founder of La Luna Ski Resort donated a large sum of money for the school to be opened for the more affluent members of Star Point. Nestled in the basin of mountains that surrounds the town, Kingsley is host to a picturesque little campus fit to rival a small college.
No expense was spared ensuring the school would please both student and parent — state of the art laboratories and an advanced curriculum as well as monthly dinner for the parents are only just a small bit of what Kingsley has to offer.
Enroll for the fall semester now! If you can afford the tuition…
the kingsley's
resort owners
Nicolas Kingsley and his third wife, Adrianna, have been the owners of La Luna for coming up on five years. The resort was passed down to Nick after his own father's retirement as it has been for years by his grandfather and great-grandfather before that.
While Nick and Adrianna have no children of their own together, yet, Nick has his own from previous marriages. His first wife, Shannon, passed during child birth with his first child. A son. And as for his second -- lets just say irreconcilable differences.
Adrianna has been called a gold digger many times by tabloids. It's no secret she has a habit of picking wealthy and somewhat older men but she swears she loves Nick regardless of money or status. "Nothing could change my love for Nicolas. I am here for him through thick and thin."
We might just see how well those vows hold up soon enough... Hope Nick opted for a prenup this time around!
reggie carpenter
npc
Somewhat of a social outcast, his brooding disposition an easy target for bullies. It wasn’t until Morgan’s light-hearted nature got the best of him that he ever had what he could consider friends, though he and Morgan were often excluded from all of the chaos that Diana, Josie, and Malcolm got up to—that’s how he saw it, anyway.
The longer he spent with them, the more they noticed a shift in his personality, but whether or not those negative traits had always been there—a quick temper ready to point the blame anywhere but at himself, the paranoid tendencies—or if they’d somehow brought out those characteristics, they weren’t certain.
Regardless, it caused a rift in the group, and Reggie and Morgan dropped out of contact with the rest by the end of senior year.
Malcolm and Diana are pretty sure they’ve seen Reggie in Star Point again recently, but maybe they were just a little too high...
morgan frey
npc
Old friend of Malcolm, Josie, and Diana -- she joined their group during junior year of high school. She was more soft-spoken than the rest, perfectly content to take the backseat to their antics in favor of being the “nice friend” when the need came about.
At the beginning of senior year, she was the one to invite Reggie into their tightly-knit circle, and not long after, the two began dating. As summer approached, tensions rose, and the group had a falling out, which resulted in Morgan and Reggie going their separate ways.
No one has seen or heard from her since, though she’s suspected to have left town quietly after graduation without a second glance back.

From the richer side of star point, Corey doesn’t necessarily need a job, but given the lack of things to do in their small town, it offers him some sense of entertainment.
Along with that, he never has let his family’s wealth dictate how he treats others. While in attendance of Star Point’s one private school, he often crossed paths with the public school kids at sports or social events, but any interactions between them were never anything short of friendly, despite the criticism that Corey received from his affluential peers afterwards.
Corey isn’t one to care what people think, which transfers over to his position as la luna’s ski instructor. His boss has told him countless times that he’ll be fired if he doesn’t put more effort in, but Corey knows a bluff when he sees one.
He may not be as attentive to the clientele as he should be—eagerly telling everyone they’re doing great whether it’s true or not, with no intention of ever truly teaching them anything—but the middle-aged ladies that pass through the resort are too swept up in his charm to notice, so if he went, so would some of the business.
kylie dawson
npc
Unlike her younger brother, Kylie very much allows her family’s affluence to dictate how she views everything and everyone—or, she used to, at least. She’s a changed woman now, ready to advocate for whichever of the world’s problems will make her the most popular.
She tries to tell herself and those around her that she really does care, but deep down, she knows it’s to ease her conscience about the years she spent in high school being a heinous bitch. One of her favorite targets was Reggie carpenter—his generally weird aura made bullying him all too easy.
There’s whispers of him being back in Star Point, and what a coincidence! So is Kylie. Maybe the two will have a chance to reconcile before the holidays are up…
