The Magnificent Manbeard
This is a secondary idea I am throwing out there since there seems to have been major steam lost for my Young Justice RP.
This story takes place in an alternate universe before the main characters of the League donned their superhero identities. Think of it as the flashback sequences from the show Arrow, before he returned to the States and became Green Arrow.
This RP will take place in multiple places around the world, but also a lot in Gotham City, New Jersey. I will start out with three main characters, Bruce Wayne, Clark Kent, and Oliver Queen. Ted Grant/Wildcat will be sort of a background mentor character I'll use as well. I may bring in others as background NPCs here and there.
In this world, aliens and magic do exist, but thus far they are kept secret from the general public. Homo magi is an offshoot of humans that have the ability to channel and control Mana, a magical energy from a different plane of existence that intertwines with ours on a different vibrational frequency. The Mana Plane -- also known as the Fade -- is home to a variety of different realms that intersect with our own, including the Speed Force, the Phantom Zone, Mount Olympus, and many others. When someone dies, their soul enters the Fade. If they are weighted down enough by fear, anger, and hate, they will fall into the Abyss, the lowest level of the Fade and the birthplace of demons. If they can let go of these negative emotions and rise above them, they can ascend to the Silver City, the highest level of the Fade and essentially "Heaven."
On Earth, an organization known as the Shadowpact has kept magic and the Fade secret from the general public for centuries. They hunt down the occasional Breacher -- one who opens a Breach from the Fade to Earth -- and send them back through. They wipe the memory of anyone who witnessed the event to maintain secrecy, but in an age of cameras and cellphones, this is getting harder.
Aliens may also be on Earth in hiding. The United States Government is aware that aliens exist, but have yet to publicly confirm it. They created the secretive D.E.O. -- Department of Extranormal Operations -- to monitor and investigate possible alien sightings. Although officially the D.E.O. does not exist and its agents are documented as a joint counter-terrorism task force between the C.I.A. and U.S. Air Force. Any aliens that are on Earth are cloaked in human form and hiding from the D.E.O., except for a rare few that work for them. Additionally, the D.E.O. also works closely with the Shadowpact.
For the story bringing our characters together, we'll start with Lex Luthor's 21st birthday. Lex is good friends with Bruce Wayne and Oliver Queen, as all three of them attended Gotham Academy, one of the most highly-regarded private schools in the world. The party is aboard the Queen's Gambit, Oliver's personal cruise ship, which if full of friends, family, media reporters, ship staff, etc. Whatever their reasons, your character is on this ship. They set out from a port in Miami, Florida, for a two-week cruise around the Caribbean to celebrate Lex's birthday while television and smartphone screens flash headlines saying CRISIS IN BIALYA.
This relates to the Bialyan Civil War that has been raging on for months, in which a young Queen Bee has gathered support from neighboring Qurac and other nations to rip the Throne of Bialya from her tyrannical male-dominated family. She is the first born child of her father, King Hayid, but because she is not a man, she was passed over and her younger brother is now next in line to inherit the Throne. She has been very vocal even as a child and spoke out against her family's tyranny, but these eventually put her life at risk and she had to flee Bialya as a teenager. She found her way to Nanda Parbat in the mountains of Tibet where she trained with the League of Shadows along side fellow apprentice Bruce Wayne.
After completing her training, Bee returned to Bialya in secret and help spark the rebellion that led to the Civil War. But now the U.S. has become involved in the conflict and many Bialyan Loyalists are outraged. They hijack the Queen's Gambit, knowing their new hostages will give them quite the bargaining chip as the vessel is filled with plenty of important billionaires and corporate executives.
Our characters end up in a deep cave dungeon in the mountains of eastern Bialya, held hostage by the Loyalists. The ransom? The complete withdrawal of all American support for Bee's Rebellion within one week, or else they start executing hostages.
How will our characters respond to this? Will they answer the call and transform into the heroes they are destined to become? One good thing is that when Bee realizes her former training partner and lover Bruce Wayne is among the hostages, she sends a rescue team to the caves. She cares for him, but also holds a lot of resentment because he left Nanda Parbat before completing his training -- the Final Trials included taking human life, something he severely opposed. When Bruce realized he would have to kill to pass the Trials and that the League of Shadows actually dabbled in assassinations, he became disgusted and abandoned the League to return home. Many members never forgave him for his betrayal.
So, Queen Bee rescues our characters from the dungeon and then from there we have a whole world of options, but it will start with us on the Queen's Gambit. I'm open to ideas and please list the characters you are interested in playing .
