Everyone's heard a human being can go like, three months without food. Most everyone in this country has seen pictures of starved prisoners, people who actually did, until their skin stretched and strained to cover their skeletons. Hell in a place like this, where so many came from such harsh backgrounds, a decent amount had probably gone longer without food already. Thing is though, knowing all that in your head didn't make stomach cry any less. It'd been two days since anyone brought you anything to eat, and Wednesday's meal, your last meal, hadn't exactly been a feast either. It hadn't been bad or anything, but it was just a single paper bowl of some kind of gumbo for an entire day, not much for a grown man, God help anyone big or fat.
So when you were finally let out of your little cell, it only made sense that not too much time was spent hounding your savior. You were hungry, perhaps hungrier then you had ever been, there was no time to waste pestering some unresponsive goon. The others he was freeing certainly weren't, by and large the pattern was the same. They'd ask a couple questions, get vague answers if they were lucky, and then they'd abandon him to run off in the direction of the prison's mess hall. Well, most did anyway. Some went straight for the prison's entrance, and the former guard didn't seem to care.
You were free.
