One night was all it took; after that the night turned evil. It held the unimaginable, the horrible and your greatest fear. It was the classic light against dark situation. If you wanted to live you had to survive the night. “Are you scared?” she asked holding the flashlight in her hand. It cast a dim glow around them. “Yes.” he answered. Hissing, chuckles, clicks and growls echoes around them. Off in the pitch black they could make out light. “We can run.” Her voice was hopeful even though she knew the truth. He grabbed his pack and pulled out a Brightlite stick, snapping it so the light was suddenly brighter. He could see she was crying and hugged her muttering comforting words. A few minutes later he pulled away. “Ready?” he asked his voice shaking. “Don’t stop. No matter what don’t stop. Promise okay?” she begged. “I promise.” They ran. The fear was there. The way the heartbeat. The way the blood rushed. It was like watching a horror film waiting for the good guy to die. But you were the person to die, and it wasn’t Hollywood it was real. His breathing came short. Every step he took his body shook. He was running as fast as he could through the pitch black towards that pale light of hope. Something was watching him though he could feel it. Then the hissing and clicking started. Picking up his pace he ran faster but still it followed. Smelling his fear. Smelling his blood. He saw the light, so close now it was almost blinding. He bolted for the door. The noise turned to a loud growl and raced after him. So close he could feel its breath on his neck, feel the presence of its body behind him. He burst through into the light stumbled, rolled and skidded to stop. The bright sun blinding his eyes and an ungodly scream echoed from the black hole. His breathing shuddered as he pulled himself up straight. It took too much effort because he fell back down again. Squinting at the hole of darkness he waited. Praying over and over for her to appear. As every second passed the fear dug into his heart deeper. It was ungodly quiet. The quiet was not good. “Nelly?” he whispered. Something caught at his stomach and his Adam’s apple bobbed up and down. He wouldn’t believe it. He scrambled up to his feet and leaned against a shell of a car. “Nelly!” he cried out loudly. Something roared at him from the darkness; so loudly he ducked down cowering behind the burnt out car. After he got his heart back under control he looked up again. Nothing had come out. Of course nothing would come out there was too much sun. Still he looked around cautiously. He was crying the wet tears falling down his cheeks. “Come on, come on.” He breathed. He thought he saw a flash of light across the opening but it vanished. Seconds later a scream pierced the silence. He ran over to the dark hole screaming too. In frantic movements he dug into his bag and pulled out a Brightbomb. Smashing it against the wall he flung it into the building. A burst of light exploded into the room and the hissing, growls and chuckles screamed in agony as the sounds retreated from the light. Gulping down more tears he looked in the building. Shadows danced at the edge of the light and along the floor there was red pools. As his eyes followed the trail of blood it got worse. The blood turned into limbs and into mashed parts that were unrecognizable. He turned and puked then numbly walked away from the hole. Halfway down the street he began to sob dropping to his knees his breath coming in gasps. Her scream still echoed in his ears.

Sooooo I just keep posting stuff on here of older work. I don't believe that I'll ever expand on this I like it how it is. If I try to remember the creatures are quite big and lanky with dark skin. They don't handle the sunlight well and are active in the night or dark areas. I'm sure I tried to expand more on them at some point but regretfully I've lost that when an old computer died RIP old work. So many of my poor characters are traumatized awfully sorry my poor creations I still love you. -SZ7
