  • THE NATURALIST
The expert. Everyone will be looking to you for direction when the creatures of the past become the terrors of the present - but you're an expert in rocks and theories, not gnashing teeth and being chased at midnight through the thorny underbrush.

There's room for multiple in this role, if they diversify. Eg. paleobotanist, paleontologist, etc.

FRANK AMLY
NAME: FRANKLIN H. AMLY
DATE OF BIRTH: March 5th, 1892 (31 years old)
ROLE: The Agent

HOME:
Frank has a small apartment somewhere on the lower end of Washington, but his job dictates a need for travel, and he finds accommodation wherever he goes.

APPEARANCE:
See image

PERSONALITY:
Frank sees himself as a practical man. He dislikes showboating or the excessive glamour that has characterized the 20s so far, finding comfort in tradition and God instead. He's pessimistic and unsure of his place in the world. Despite that, he works for the state not only because he feels it's morally righteous, but because the job is the next closest thing to what he used to be, an ex-serviceman in World War I. He is afraid of change and prone to bouts of weariness, but remains committed to his principles, helping those he can. Contrary to his job, he doesn't agree with everything the state says. He hates the Prohibition on alcohol, and relies on cigarettes as a coping mechanism.

HISTORY:

Life before the Great War seems so meaningless. Frank was a farm-boy, raised to herd cattle and sell what goods they produced down at the big city. At 24 he entered WWI as a servicemen, an experience which traumatized him for the following year and a half. It was difficult to find a job post-war, especially in an urban climate that was rapidly progressing past what he was used to. Based on a recommendation from a superior officer, Frank got a position working as an agent for the state. Initially, he accepted because he saw the rampant unemployment other ex-servicemen were facing was afraid of the same, but developed an appreciation for the job in his five years working for the state, gradually rising up the totem pole enough that one day he was entrusted with a unique mission. One that involved a billionaire and a secret island...

NAME: Catherine Ripley
ROLE: The Star
AGE: 22
HOME: Los Angeles, California
APPEARANCE:
Lianne-La-Havas-2016.jpg

Lianne-La-Havas-770x470.png

PERSONALITY:
A sweet and bubbly socialite, Catherine knows how to charm a room. She always tries to put on a good face and keep her carefully constructed facade together. Her personality isn't exactly "fake" per see, she just knows a bit about how to play the fame game and what can be too much. At least, when cameras or her adoring fans are involved, she is a funny and charismatic person. However, behind the scenes, she is a little bit dramatic and definitely doesn't take shit from anyone (especially a man). She won't be talked over and unless you're the director, you won't tell her what to do. This has started to give her a bit of a reputation behind the scenes -- not necessarily as being difficult (yet) but certainly as someone to watch out for as she gets older. This isn't to say she's let fame get to her head, she just won't let people walk over her. It's the flapper mentality of independence. She's also a bit of a partier, always seen around the Hollywood scene when there are dances or parties, never one to miss a social event. She lets people think she's a bit of an air-head if they want to, though she's always kind of playing the field to get what she wants.

HISTORY:
Catherine's parents weren't from big money but they were from slightly newer money, they both decided to move to New York to make something of themselves. Her mom started out as an actress Off-Broadway, eventually moving to the Broadway stage, and her father became a fantastic set designer. They met working on a show together, and from that day forward never looked back. They had Catherine and she grew up backstage. She was always enamored with the design, the lights, and, especially, the stage. She always watched her mom as she put on her makeup and wardrobe, and usually watched her from the wings. When she was old enough, her mother put her in dance lessons and acting lessons, and soon she joined her mother on the stage. She was quite a good actress, only getting smaller roles designed for children at first. When she got her first leading role as a teenager, she couldn't believe it. It was the motivation she needed to commit herself to being an actress, but she knew she needed to break away from her parents at some point before people began to see her as just an extension of their talents. She wanted to be her own person, recognized by her own talents, and she knew she couldn't do that under her parents' shadows.

Before too long, word began to spread to her about Hollywood and the new and exciting things they were creating there. At 19, she said goodbye to her parents and left right away to get on the ground floor of something incredible. She was disappointed at first, not landing any roles. They were mostly silent films at this point, after all, and her singing wasn't getting her anywhere with that. Eventually, though, she got a part and she hasn't looked back since then. It was likely due to her parents' names, but she proved that she deserved a seat at the Hollywood table, and, while she got there through some privilege she has tried her best to make it worth it. It has been kind of a bumpy ride, trying to find her place in this ever-growing world of film and adapting her acting style for a silent medium. Sometimes she misses the stage, but she hopes one day to return to it when all of this newfound fame she's found herself swept up in dies down some. However, she is certainly enjoying the ride along the way.

Jakob 'Kaz' Kaźmierczak VB.gif
About: Jakob Kaźmierczak is a twenty-four year old journalist, who lives and works in the San Francisco Bay Area. The eldest child of five, his parents are Polish immigrants who travelled to the States in the hope of finding a better life. Writing under the pseudonym of Matthew Harrison, his articles are mainly investigative pieces, usually into crime or political corruption in the city. He deems writing in gossip columns to be beneath him, but has been known to trade celebrity gossip for political scandal information from his colleagues. He is not yet a household name, but amongst the journalistic community and his colleagues, he’s gaining a reputation as a rising star and one to very much watch. Outside of Eastern European immigrants, most cannot actually pronounce his name properly- bastardising his first name to ‘Jay-cob’ instead of ‘Yah-cub’ and only getting as far as the first syllable of his surname before giving up. It’s for this reason that everybody calls him ‘Kaz’.

Appearance: Jakob is tall and lean, some would say skinny. Spending a lot of his days on his feet chasing leads- combined with the fact that he finds walking helps him to think- means he is more athletic than people would expect. His face is sharp-featured and youthful, bordering on boyish, as a result many think him to be younger than he really is. He’s always clean shaven and well dressed, rarely seen not wearing a hat. He always has at least one notebook and pen on his person. His eyes are an unusual grey-green colour and his face very expressive, particularly when he’s trying to get information out of you- he’s mastered the art of the inquisitive look that manages to stare right into your soul and the arched, sceptical eyebrow. He speaks with only a slight Polish accent.

Personality: Some (particularly those he’s investigated) would say Jakob is too nosy for his own good, always rooting around in other people’s business looking for a story. He’s tenacious to the point of being unbearable, once he gets a whiff of a story, he’s on it like a bloodhound and there’s very little that anybody can do to make him drop a story. He’s observant- very little escapes his notice, intelligent (more intelligent than people give him credit for when they find out he dropped out of school), with spot-on instincts. Jacob is a problem solver and puzzle enthusiast. He lives for the moments where all the puzzle pieces and evidence fall together into one cohesive story. He’s ambitious and highly motivated, to the point of recklessness, desperate to prove himself and to continue his rise up through the ranks. He will bend the rules to get a story and knows a few not so legal ways to access information. Jakob is good with people (in his line of work he needs to be), generally level headed and polite. He’s a charmer when he needs to be, attentive and always asking questions. He’s also good at fading into the background to eavesdrop. At the same time as he roots out other people’s secrets, he continues to keep his own cards close to his chest. His personal life is just that- personal and private- most people don’t know that he’s gay.

History: Jakob is the eldest child of five, his parents Polish immigrants who moved to San Francisco in search of a better life. Money was tight growing up and as the eldest this meant that whenever money was particularly tight, he had to work so the family could have enough money to keep everybody fed. When he was in school English and maths were the only subjects he cared for. Books were a luxury his family couldn’t afford, so instead he read newspapers voraciously.
At the age of fourteen he dropped out of school to start working full time. He ended up working in a restaurant, first hauling the bins around, then in the kitchen and later as a waiter and table runner. It was there he first saw the power of information and learned the advantage of blending into the background to eavesdrop. Gossip flowed freely between the waiters and kitchen staff- comments on patrons and snippets of conversations they’d overheard. Older staff members knew all the regular faces and orders, as well as snippets about their lives and lifestyles. Most of it was harmless, but every once in a while he’d hear something of a more… dangerous nature. Jakob quickly figured out he could sell this to the newspapers and make some extra cash on the side.
At first the journalists didn’t believe him, but Jacob was tenacious, pestering one particular journalist- a well known and well-respected name amongst San Francisco households- until he finally listened. Jakob’s lead was a good one, leading to a front page expose. The journalist made Jakob his source, realising while the boy could be a nuisance with his infuriating persistence, his tips were solid and he was a good way to get information from the Polish-speaking community who were hesitant to trust an outsider.
It was a good system, until it was shattered by the first conscription bill for World War 1. Jakob was too young to be enlisted, but his mentor was not. Seeing it as his civic duty to go and fight, the journalist enlisted in the army and was subsequently killed in action.
Jakob managed to get himself hired as a journalist, starting small and working his way up, making use of the friends he still has in kitchens and amongst the Polish-speaking community. Although his reputation for investigative journalism is growing amongst his colleagues (and rivals), he’s yet to have his ‘big-break front-page news story’ that will propel his name into the public eye. So when his boss announces that they’ve been given a major tip-off about dodgy dealings on a Costa-Rican island, believed to be owned by a prominent millionaire, as well as a way in for a team of two investigative reporters, Jakob jumped at the chance to go in undercover.
