JUGGERNAUTS: THE CORSTIM INVASION

At first we thought they were just bugs we were fighting: big and dumb, but prolific. Then we discovered they were being driven by the Corstims (cortical stimulators), and that changed things completely. Looking like a big land-based octopus, the Corstims ride the bugs and take over their brains through their tentacles. Only about one in four Soldier bugs is ridden at any one time: the rest of the bugs are just herded by hive mentality. Bigger bugs almost always have a Corstim rider. And if we shoot a bug with a Corstim on them, the Corstim just jumps ship to the next bug.

The bugs come in many different types. We don’t know what hellworld they came from, but arthropods must have took it over, land, sky and sea. Many have carbon fiber exoskeletons, resistant to small arms and rifles. Most are big enough that if you’re facing them with just a rifle, you’re dead anyway.

So we don't face them with just rifles. We face them in mechs, forty foot tall robots bigger than their soldier bugs and equipped with all kinds of firepower. Most mechs range from 20 to 100 tons, but this crew, we've got 200, 300 ton centaur mechs and one eight-legged mech weighing in at 800 tons. So, if you want to kick some buggy butt, come join the team!

We are looking for para players who understand that their characters are normal humans, just pilots of really big robots, and who want to get into human drama as well as action. If you contact us, we will get in touch about character possibilities.

I'm rather interested in a mech based RP, especially a mech RP where there's actually something to fight! I'd like to talk about character possibilities more before deciding to join though if that's possible.

Absolutely! Do you have a concept in mind, or need more information before developing one? I am here at your service...

I might be interested! Is there a single government the characters are a part of, or can we make our own?
There are some small, mostly ineffective nations on the planet, but one defense force. You may create your own small nation, but understand that at this time there are no unresolved hostilities between nations: the common enemy has driven out the focus on any previous conflicts.

That's totally fine! I'm thinking of a small planetary nation that was cut off from the rest of humanity, and ended up as a sort of Roman Republic (not exactly, but their governmental structure is similar.)

Very interesting! And yes: in the collapse of the nation states that colonized space, many groups were cut off in just such a manner.

Thank ya! I'll work on the specifics of the government, but the jist is that it's run by a Senate, who's Senators also act as military leaders, who in turn serve under an elected dictator who serves for life. Sort of a mixture of the Roman Republic and Roman Empire in terms of structure.

Sounds intriguing. Are they required to be mech pilots, or just command generals?

Good question, actually! I'd say that most are mech pilots, but it's not required. A few are admirals, but even then it's very common a Senator begins their military and political career as a mech pilot, as they probably see it as an extremely respectable career.

Delighted to hear from you! By all means, let me know the details. I will be posting a CS page shortly, but if we could discuss for now either here or in a PM, that would be great!

Oh, what kind of mechs are these? Are they MechWarrior style ones, Pacific Rim ones, or something like anime mecha?
Half of these are Mechwarrior style, or more precisely, Battletech. See the Technical Readouts for years 3050, 3055 and 3058 for many excellent examples.

However, our current year is 3180 and all Inner Sphere mechs will have been upgraded to Clan versions of heat sinks and weapons, with other appropriate adjustments we can discuss.

The other half are built with Battletech equipment, weapons and specs, but are either 200 ton or 300 ton centaur-shaped mechs with a tail gunner in a bubble who controls half the weaponry. There are a few advanced weapons, for which I will give specs as needed or desired.

Ah, alright, got it. Thanks! Honestly the image of Roman legions but with Atlas' is rad as hell

Note that we're talking full Clan upgrades for heat sinks and all weapons: a Gauss rifle replaces the AC20, 2 LRM20's, 2 ER Large Lasers, 2 ER Med Lasers, 2 SRM6's, 20 double heat sinks, and I'd throw in an Ultralight 400 rated engine to take her up to 4/6, with all the ammo needed to keep her in the field for at least fifteen rounds. Now, _that's_ rad!

I'm actually thinking my character's planet uses tactics similar to the Roman Empire. Basically, they have a central force of heavy and assault mechs that slowly advance on the enemy, while they have smaller detachments of smaller and more versatile mechs to ensure they won't be outflanked.

That pretty well describes the Company we have put together. At the center, one 800 ton spider mech with near Naval class weaponry, flanked by two 300 ton and two 200 ton centaur mechs, with two 100 ton and two 75 ton mechs on the periphery.

Only problem: the bugs tend to send swarms of soldier bugs from all sides, plenty to overrun the Company's positions. That's why almost every mech comes equipped with either incendiary missiles or heavy machine guns for wiping out massive numbers of bug at once.

Now, please note that our campaign is set on only one world. So, while your Empire may occupy a very large swath of that, there will be other governments on the same planet. I would suggest that the Empire has control of weapons factories and mech factories, and may be responsible for building the centaur mechs and the spider mech.

Are you familiar with the Lancer Tabletop? I'll be using mechs from that

I cannot say that I have any familiarity with the Lancer program, and that is in spite of just doing some checking online. I can appreciate that the writers are trying to create something new, and I am open to hearing some description of what you're going for and see if it works in our world. My main concern is that I don't want other mecha with tech that blows everything else out of the water and dominates the game. Of course, if you can provide me with some specs I can take a look and see if it's something we can work with.
