The clouds formed a white sea, one only an airship could sail. It had been a pleasant sail of three nights and the airship was spacious with each guest having a small room of their own, the space was lit by a singular yellow lamp that was nailed to a small table, every room had the same layout, even nobles who had paid a hefty amount to be in the airship were granted the simple room, and while they tried their best to get something better, the council reaffirmed their efforts to keep cost to a minimum, with no special room for guests with more gold than others, the council had already granted them the favor of giving space inside the airship and they deemed a bigger room to be a useless waste of gold.

Rust sat on his bed, he held the moon mask with both hands, feeling its weight as he pondered, his eyes shifting gaze as he looked at the mirror at the edge of the room, there were moments in his life where he could only wonder if he was doing anything right, if choosing to come to another continent was truthfully the best choice he had. He had lost what was once home, what he could once call friends because of decisions he made, mistakes he made, a life he so rightfully chose.

“But then again, I still live” he muttered to himself, shaking his head as he carefully cleaned the mask with a small piece of blue cloth before placing it on the bed and walking up to the small window in the far right of the room, the day started to turn into night and the peaceful clouds started to turn a soft gray, shrouding the airship in a dense mist with the distant sound of thunder ever approaching, this was the first time the airship would have to endure any type of rain but the engineers were confident about the durability of their creation.

“The airship that can never fail” he remembered the words of a dwarf engineer that passed by him as he carried his luggage to the ship, he knew dwarves were more than great with technology and construction, their capital was enough proof, so Rust felt comfortable putting both feet inside the flying machine and felt even more comfortable sleeping in it, many feet above the ground.

“Careful around here, there seems to be rain coming” the captain of the airship and member of the expedition council, a dwarf of old age with a powerful beard and mustache who wore a blue captain outfit walked around the control room, taking a look at the engineers that helped control the ship and the windows that surrounded the entire room, giving the men a 360 view of the area surrounding the airship and the clouds that were almost black now, it wasn't just simple rain, it was going to be a thunderstorm and a very heavy one.

“Our calculus said we'd arrive at the new continent in about four nights, so we push just a bit further”
he stated, taking a seat on his chair and assuming his position once again, slowly turning the wheel to avoid a dense cloud, although by now they were going to have trouble avoiding them, seeing as the entire surrounding area was turning into a heavy fog, the captain clicked his tongue, but continued forward.

Rust stood by the door, wearing the moon mask as he twisted the door handle, the corridor was somewhat crowded, with guests coming down from the main deck wet and mad at the weather conditions, he frowned, making his way up on the right side of the stairs as people used the left to frantically run downstairs to avoid the rain, there were workers tying up ropes and other important parts of the airship together, which made Rust notice that a few things seemed to have broken off, the rain was more than just water, it was getting worse by the second.

“Get back inside the ship sir, we are trying to manage the situation” a worker said as Rust reluctantly obeyed, he went back to the corridor, now finding himself looking at a crowd of guests entering their rooms and he followed to his own but felt as if he was doing something incredibly wrong, so he approached the window once again, this time noticing the lightning strikes that struck nearby, lighting up the entire room as they struck. There was silence for a moment and he felt an impending sense of doom and was thrown backwards towards the door, breaking it open as he hit his back against the corridor's walls, the airship had shifted in an absurd manner and the sound of lightning was evermore present.

The airship regained balance but by now, there were at least a dozen unconscious guests on the carpeted floor, he held onto the walls and made his way towards the main deck where he would find the balloon like structure that held the airship high in the air on fire (the airship is a mixture of a ship and a zeppelin) parts of its metal structure falling on the deck as people tried to avoid the scolding hot metal that would fall or even break through the deck, the lightning strike had hit the airship and a fire ensued, but its size was so great he already knew there was no way to recover from it.

The captain of the airship tried his best to control it, with his auxiliary engineers doing their best to keep the engines working but the fire granted them no way to escape the situation, the airship started to lose altitude fast and their only hope appeared amongst the clouds, the flying continent, followed by a city that sat on its borders. They were going to crash, but at the very least the captain could try to ease their fall, granting at least some people a chance of survival, so he held onto the controls for as long as he could, with pieces of the main control room starting to break off, air cutting through as the engineers screamed in fear.

“Leave me, I’ll handle it” the captain screamed to his workers who obeyed, holding onto objects and pillars to make their way out of the room. The windows broke, glass shards flying everywhere as rain invaded the control room, the captain holding onto the controls with all his might, shifting the airship towards the land as the room continued to break, pieces of the floor and walls flying away as the heroic captain kept his eyes focused on their destination.

Rust watched as people were thrown out of the deck, being sent flying into the clouds to a terrible fate, the ship was now tipped towards the continent, an imminent crash in course and from what he could see, there was a city of some kind where they were about to crash. Rust ran down the stairs and tried to help some of the unconscious guests, carrying two of them towards a storage area in the back of the ship, where the impact of the crash would be less damaging, he was surprised to find more adventurers there, they all had the same thought and some were even taking care of others.

As they approached the continent, the captain found them en route towards a city and he pulled the controls one last time, tipping the airship just enough to avoid a few taller buildings, but his efforts were in vain as the ship hit a clocktower that stood proud at the town square, half of it collapsing instantly as the rubble fell on the ground and the airship collapsed, the balloon had burned long ago, with some of the metal frame that was kept inside it being scattered all around the town square and the airship had broken into two pieces with some engine and motor parts burning around the town square.

They had reached the floating continent.

Rust woke up as did some other people, they had survived the crash but some were severely wounded, choosing to remain at the storage was the right choice but none escaped unscathed. He stood up, pushing some of the wooden planks aside as light entered the room, he heard loud and heavy steps and soon the outside world was revealed to them. Through the hole that had been made on the ship's vessel stood humanoid elephant people, tall and strong, some wore very simple golden armor as others wore lightweight robes, they looked at the survivors of the airship, and one of them waved his hand to his fellow elephant people.

“We need healers now” he turned back to the survivors “you bunch chose a perfectly wrong time to reach Sunballe, but help is on the way, rest assured you will all survive.”

গান Theodore Auclair গান

Despite having willingly paid for the voyage, it had still taken some convincing for Theo to get on the airship. It wasn't that he didn't trust dwarven engineering but, he didn't like the idea of thousands of pounds of steel and folk being flown around by a balloon. At the sight of his trepidation, Alara, his employee, friend, and on-again-off-again girlfriend reminded him of the expedition's potential benefits. She was so confident in her presentation yet he couldn't bring himself to focus on it with dread coiling in the pit of his stomach.

"We need this opportunity, Teddy." She concluded.
He didn't dispute that fact as she laced her fingers through his. Alara gave his hand a gentle tug forward, "Let's go." The steeled edge to her baby-blue gaze and self assured stride was enough for him to re-summon his courage.

A few days later and Theo was still regretting his decision. Airsickness forced him to spend most of the voyage on deck. Though this did afford him the opportunity to see some marvelous sights—a dense ocean of clouds whose appearance fluctuated with the time of day. He wished he could've captured the sight of floating through clouds stained in the orange-red hues of sunset or dusted in the pinks of dawn. So when an ominous set of clouds appeared on the horizon, he thought little of it.

"I brought your coat." Alara returned from her voyage below deck with a sympathetic smile. She draped the coat over his shoulders and Theo smiled gratefully.
"Thanks-" He barely got the word out before remnants of the days lunch spilled out over the side of the ship. Panting, Theo gripped the side-rail like a lifeline. A shudder ran through him and he gagged again at the taste of bile caught in the back of his throat, but thankfully nothing came up this time. He wiped at the sweat gathered on his brow and drew three deep, measured, breaths.

"You okay?" Alara ran her hand up and down his back, "Would you like more ginger tea?"
Theo leaned away from the rail. "I'll be fine. " A wet drop fell on his head and Theo glanced at the clouds above them with a frown.
"Are you sure-"
"Alara," he pinched the bridge of his nose and his eyes squeezed shut briefly. Then he refocused on her and noted with clinical indifference,"Airsickness is very common. I'll be fine again in a few hours."
"I'm concerned-"
"I'm telling you you don't need to be."

Silence hung between them. The rain began gently at first, but soon the wind picked up the downpour became so heavy that his coat offered little protection. The majority of the crowd that had gathered on deck were making their way below. Theo watched the other guest-adventurers compete with each other to make it through the door first. Alara gave his hand an impatient tug, "Maybe we should also make our way inside-"
A crash of thunder obliterated the rest of her sentence. Theo swept his gave up to the storm clouds and resigned himself to the idea of having to wait out the weather in their cramped room. They had just joined the line when there was another blinding flash, like sheet-lightning, and a huge ball of varicolored fire belched upward from the now actively deflating balloon. It was then that it finally hit that something wasn't right. Screams drowned out his thoughts and seconds later the ship began to tilt.

Theo stumbled into the crowd, straining to hold on to Alara's hand while they were being jostled around like loose bowling pins. Unable to proceed further into the stairwell, he did his best to anchor himself to the door frame so that he wouldn't fall backward. "Al-Alara!?!?"
To his horror, the people behind Alara went skidding across the deck. Those who weren't lucky enough to find something sturdy to grab a hold of were thrown overboard. Another roar of thunder blotted out the chorus of screams.

Theo clenched his jaw. His arm muscles strained to keep Alara from meeting a similar fate.
He felt her hand slip from his. His heart dropped to his stomach. "NO!" He screamed.

Just like that she was gone. The image of her body plummeting through a sea of dark clouds seared itself into his mind. The ship began to re-correct itself and Theo stumbled forward. Outside of himself, Theo felt strangers pulling him along. Down the stairwell and a long narrow hallway and into some type of storage room. The ship jostled again and Theo felt his body bounce as he toppled to the floor. All he could hear was the noise of metal twisting and crunching in on itself as it slid against a blanket of concrete.

And then there was nothing.

Theodore awoke without warning, eyes flung so wide that each iris was a perfect chocolate orb. After a second he turned his head with some difficulty, his throat impossibly dry, and lungs straining for breath. A groan slid past his lips as he slowly began to gain his baring. A pile of bruised and bleeding limbs, Theo wiggled in an attempt to test if anything was broken. But if it was, he couldn't feel it.

A flood of light followed by voices pulled his attention to their alien rescuers.
“-you bunch chose a perfectly wrong time to reach Sunballe, but help is on the way, rest assured you will all survive.”
Sunballe? So did they manage to reach the floating continent after all?

"But at what cost?" The bitterness in his voice tapered off into a wet cough. He winced, favoring his right side as he struggled to his feet.

"Pookie" -Puukira Krimdaga - 'The Gunner'

Gunder3.jpg[

Not-so-Auspicious beginnings...

This was a mistake. From the moment she stepped foot upon this bulbous monstrosity, little did she know it was all such a big mistake.

Puukira was such a vivacious woman: big smiles, loud and boisterous. Wherever she went she was sure to leave a mark; they would always know her as the short, yet disarmingly charming, green-haired ball of energy with the metal plate on the side of her head. Green eyes would sparkle like gems as she regailed a tale or two over a drink or three. And what better place could she have been in other than up here with her heart's desire, secluded and away from prying eyes aboard this 'airship' (that said desire helped build)? Never did she think that the day would ever come that she would be making love up higher than the mountains themselves! Both their bodies would interrtwine, moving to a sensual rhythm shared between the pair, secret pleasures hidden in the white fluffiness of the clouds.

And never would she. The hunter's heart's desire was not even here; wrong airship.

That's right, her would-be-beloved was far and away from here, working upon another airship. On the ground. And by the time Puukira realized the mistake, it was far and away too late; they were already 1000ft up and still ascending. Oh, and not only did she have to deal with the self-loathing and heartache for the next 3 or 4 days, but she had to contend with a liiiiiiiiitle oversight on her part. Airsickness.

Yes, that's right. The diminutive thing thought that she could hack it for she was a bold and daring hunter afterall. She had traversed a treacherous body of water or 3 in her day. By all hells, she fancied herself a woman with sea-legs proper afterall! But sadly no. No, nothing could have readied her for the altitude, tubulence, rolls, roils and herky-jerky-ness of the untested bulbous monstronsity. That vivre for life, those infectious smiles, loud laughs and boisterous dialogues were no where to be seen. In fact one would think that she never held such traits. 'Pookie' was her nickname on solid ground. But up here on shaky and evershifting aircurrents, she might as well been known as 'Pukie.'

But of course she was not alone in her over-the-railing-upheavals. There was another she had become acquainted with over the 72hrs of gut-emptying wretched fun. He was a tall and lithe man with whom she and he had never really had proper introductions. And yet still they soon learned each other's names by the soothing words of others that accompanied them to their sprints to the side railings.

It was a simple relationship between the pair. They would nod courteously at each other, 'Pookie,' said he and 'Teddy' said she in polite greeting. Then both would promptly 'assume the position' on the main deck, he on one end, she on the other. When they were through, they would nod courteously at each other, 'Good day, Pookie,' said he and 'Good day to you too, Teddy,' she would poilitely reply and both would head back down their respective stairwells.

Their friendship, or lack thereof, was not so much lack of effort on his end as it was hers. Oh, but how Pookie had become a sallow thing; jaded from love lost, disenchanted by her non-cast iron stomach, and of course, second-guessing her life decision to stray so far and away from home. Normally such an outdoorsy type, and dressed up in colourful skirts and revealing tops, the little thing was but a shadow of herself. She only took to her quarters, dressed as if she was about to set off on another dangerous hunt. But really, she only sat on her bunk, hands holding her head, green braids obscuring her face... all the while feeling sorry for herself.

And so perhaps it was fitting that the one person that could have 'sixth-sensed' the impending doom and saved more lives than she let perish, sat there, broken headed and apathetic as the airship crashed and burned to the ground.

This was pain. From the moment she attempted to open her sticky eyes, little did she know what pain really was.

Puukira discovered 3 things about herself as of now: Mixed blooded elf and dwarven hair, when burnt, smells like roasted Trilling-flower seeds, the stickiness that dared to shut her lids closed was actually her own dried blood and finally, bones sticking out of your forearm is very bad and very, very, very, very painful.

Yet despite the worldview altering pain, instinct kicked in. Her good hand first shot up to check her forehead; yes, her gem was still intact and in place. And then it felt for the strange metal plate at the side of her head; yes, intact and in place. Well, one would have hoped it was still there; for if it was out of place, Pookie would actually be rather dead right now.

Through gritted teeth, she groaned loudly as she attepmted to stand. Immediately the sky swooned into the earth and she fell back down, the groan turning into a full on screech as she solidly banged the elbow of her broken arm. Heavy, sweaty and shaky breaths she took whilst attempting, but failing badly, to squelch the cries of pain gushing out her gullet. As she lay there, eyelids knitted down tight neath a monumental scowl, a moment of clarity came; a deep voice sounded out like an angel's loving promise with two resounding phrases:

"We need healers... now" and "You will all survive."

The cries of pain were held in check temporarily as Pookie breathed out a ragged sigh of relief.
