{JKthegreat and Lexie} Dear Soldier

((I'll reply tomorrow when I get off work))

I spent the rest of my day texting Conner and practicing the piano. I had finally gotten a bit bored and changed into a pair of mint green shorts and a loose black tank top and gone out to buy some fingernail polish. When I returned, I sat at my piano, starting to paint my nails black to bring out the tattoos on my leg and arm as well as my bright blue-green eyes. As I had finished the first coat on the first hand, I heard my laptop beeping, notifying me that I had a Skype call. I quickly ran to my room and used the hand I hadn't done to touch up my hair and makeup before running back and setting the computer on the piano facing me before steadying my nerves and finally accepting the call with a small smile.

The screen flashed for a second...and then there she was. I was so surprised I was almost fell off my seat. I had half expected...well I actually didn't really know what I had expected. But she beat most of them. She was a stunningly beautiful girl, around my age it seemed, with long, luscious black hair, a tattoo that looked like it stretched down the entire length of her arm and the most beautiful eyes I had ever seen.

"Uh..." I stuttered "Wow...uhm...hi." I couldn't manage much more as I struggled to get over my state of amazement.

((Probably won't reply again for a while, going to a wedding))

I moved my gaze from continuing to work on my nails over to the screen and couldn't help the small giggle that escaped as I noticed the look on his face. Being nonchalant about things is going to be harder than I thought... I silently inspecting his looks. He was without a doubt the most handsome man I had ever seen. Words couldn't even describe it. Light brown hair, sculpted jawline, and eyes that could kill. I had to play it off.

"You seem a bit flustered Mr. Mcauley," I said with a small laugh as I raised an eyebrow continued painting my nails. At the sound of me talking, Luna had gotten up and used the piano stool to jump onto the piano and moved her face right in front of the laptop. Rolling my eyes, I laughed lightly and picked her up carefully, placing her out of the way before continuing to paint.

((Ohhh sucks to be you...have fun with that))

"Wow." I said, as I regained my ability to form sentences with words that actually made sense "I was definitely not expecting...Well sorry if I'm a bit of a disappointment against the high standard of guys you're probably used to talking to, but I'm gonna have to do for now." I winked at her with a lopsided half smile tried to think of some good topics to talk about. I had a feeling we would be talking for awhile.

((Back))

I paused and glanced over at the screen before giggling softly once more. "I don't talk to guys except for my boss to be completely honest. Besides, I have to say that you well exceed my standards considering I was expecting some buzz-cut jackass. So I'm pleasantly surprised," I said with a genuine smile as I finished her nails and blew on them to dry. "Believe it or no I do have friends that happen to be females," I added, laughing a bit.

((Have fun??))

((Surprisingly yeah, had a great time))

I laughed a little and started spinning a pen around my fingers. "Well I may not have a buzzcut" I said with a grin "But you may well still find me to be a jackass. And obviously you have female friends, but those aren't the friends I gotta contend with." I winked again, showing her I was just kidding. "As for the not talking to guys part, you work at a restaurant, don't you. I would put money on it that you got hit on like 5 million times a day. You telling me there isn't one guy that's managed to claw his way into your life, no matter how hard you try?" I asked this all pretty casually, but I was obviously hoping that there wasn't one of these said guys. I wasn't really sure why, its not like I was ever going to meet her, but I still wanted to know that...well...if...

((Good to know ^^))

I gently rested my hands on the piano as I thought for a moment. "Well my last boyfriend was when I was a freshman in high school~14, so a total of eight years without someone in my life," I said with a small smile. "I'm not gonna say I don't get hit on but they're just looking for a one night stand and I think I've got a good 22-year record going on," I added and laughed lightly, knowing I had to be blushing. I would ask about you but I'm pretty sure its like illegal or something," I said before returning a wink to show that I was kidding as well. "Luna is the k my man I absolutely need...and she's a girl," I said proudly as I leaned over and kissed her head lovingly.

"Eight years, huh?" I said, trying to recall my own last girlfriend story "Well I got one year on you. Seven years ago, when I was 16, was the last time I had a girlfriend. Really serious one actually. But, you know, its a little difficult to get 'back in the game' after you find someone you think you love in bed with your best friend of five years." I had long since got over this incident, so I still smiled a bit as I spoke. "Anyway thats all a bit depressing. What I should probably say is that its amazing to finally meet you face to face. Well, so to say."

I frowned slightly at the mention of the incident and shook my head ever so slightly. "Trust me I know the feeling, but that's another story for another day," I said with a smile as I laughed. "Perhaps one day, Mr. Mcauley," I said with another laugh as I thought. "Hmm not really sure what to ask and I don't want to bore you with my life," I said with a small frown before feeling the kitten brush against my leg. "I will show you some attention when my nails dry," I said to her with a smile as I returned my focus to the computer screen.

"Me neither, really" I said, a bit of a confused look passing over my face "I already know a lot about you, i think, from our letters and texts. But there is actually something I've wanted to ask you ever since I replied to you with my first letter. What made you decide to send a care package to a soldier? Better yet, why did you pick my address?" I cocked and eyebrow as I waited for her answer.

"Well to be honest like I said before in one of my letters, my oldest brother wanted to be a soldier so I've always had a respect for them and if I can let you in on a little secret, I played Eenie Meenie Miney Moe," I said as I started to blush and shrugged slightly. I glanced around briefly as I suddenly stood up. "I'll be right back," I said as I placed Luna in front of the screen. "She can keep you company until my return," I added before jogging off towards the kitchen. As I fixed myself a bowl of ice cream, Luna spent her time licking the screen of the computer, showing no signs of stopping until I finally returned and moved her away. "Sorry you had to see that..."

"No, no. Its cute." I said, laughing a little as I spoke ""So...that tattoo. Its...its really beautiful." I only realized a few seconds ago that I had been starting at her arm, and I blushed, looking back up at her. "Uhm...sorry" I said, nervously scratching the back of my head "I was going to ask when you got it? And why you got it?" I smiled slightly more confidently at her as I continued to play with the pen.

I found myself glancing down at the tattoo with a small smile. "I thought it was pretty and I wanted to get one. I was just gonna get a small one but a couple of friends dared me to get it down the length of my arm. It's got a bunch of little things important to me surrounded by flowers," I said as pointed to one on my wrist. "Like both of my brothers' birthdays....this treble clef and bass clef making a heart because I love music...etc," I said with a small smile. "I have one on my leg too, but most of it is covered with clothes," I asked with a laugh. "I got the one on my arm for my 21st birthday as the other one 10 months later," I said, answering both questions.

I nodded along as Ashton spoke, and found myself trying to imagine what the tattoo on her leg looked like, but then shook off the thoughts when I realized what I was doing. "Uh...hmmm." I said, coughing a little bit from the thoughts "So, how long have you been into music? It seems to mean a lot to you from your letters and the fact that your laptop is on a piano right now." I smiled a small half smile as I grabbed the bottle of water that was next to me and took a sip.

"Since I as able to talk," I said with a small smile as I pressed a key on the piano proudly. I laughed a bit as I shrugged, enjoying the company Conner brought. I yawned softly as I stretched a bit. "I think I'm gonna head to bed. I'd hate to fall asleep on you," I said with a small frown as I yawned again. "I'll talk to you tomorrow," I said with a smile.

"Yeah" I said smiling at her "Yeah we can talk tomorrow. Wouldn't want to help put you to sleep with all my questions. Anyway, talk to you tomorrow. I'll be looking forward to it." I gave her one last wink, and then clicked end call. I walked over to my bed and fell over on it. It was like 4 in the afternoon, but I was exhausted anyways.

Over the next two weeks, Ashton and I skype called every single day at least once without fail. Nothing really major had happened in these two weeks, but we always had something to talk about. That was until I woke up morning and headed out to work. I had received a call from my Commanding Officer the previous evening, and I decided to text Ashton as I jogged to the compound.

Morning :D Quite excited for today. My Commanding Officer said he had some big news for me. I have no idea what it could be. Talk later.

I got to the compound, and I went straight to his office, but just so he could tease me a little bit more, he told me to come see him five minutes before my shift was over. So I did. I finished the Adult Martial Arts class a little early, and then headed over to his office. I knocked and saluted as I walked in saying "General." "At ease soldier." he said nodding for me to take a seat, which I did "Colonel Mcauley, you have been a valuable member of this program for a year this week, a full year, and you have helped a lot of people. I probably should have done this earlier, but you were helping so many people here that I couldn't bring myself to do it. But I have realized that is not particularly fair on you. So, Colonel Mcauley, you are released from your post here in the Southern America Charity Program, effective immediately. You will not be required to do any more work for the US army for a full year. You will receive a bonus amount of pay for your loyal services to your program when you arrive in California at approximately Midday two days from now. Your flight has been payed for and will leave tomorrow morning at 7 a.m sharp. Thank you for all you have done here, Connor." I was stunned, even when he stood to shake my hand, it took me a few seconds to react and shake it back. "Thank you so much for this opportunity, sir" I said regaining myself "It has been an honor serving here."

As I got out of the office, I went as quickly as possible to grab all my stuff that I had in the compound, and then sprinted home, typing as I ran.

Big news was not big it was MASSIVE. Be ready for a call, gonna be there in about two minutes.

I got home quickly and dropped everything on the bed. I set up the computer in a rush and sat down, clicking call. It was only then when it dawned on me what was happening, when it really hit me. I was going home.

I spent every day of the next two weeks working then going home only to skype with Conner, but hey, I couldn't complain. Even when I was having a bad day, it always ended good because of that. I read the text I got one night evening and gladly spent my time doing everything I could to keep myself busy. When I got the second text, I found my computer and laid down on my bed, opening the laptop and logging onto skip anxiously. I couldn't help but wonder what news could possibly be so massive. I heard the ping of an incoming call and quickly answered it with a smile. "Now what could possibly be so big that you couldn't just text me so you had to keep me waiting all of two minutes?" I asked anxiously as I bounced around slightly.

"I...uh...my commanding officer...big news...had to wait..." I stopped myself as I spoke, because I realized I was panting from the run still. I took a few deep breaths and started again. "So, uhm...wow I still don't think I've really realized whats happening yet." I said, my smile growing as I spoke "Ok. So last night I got a call from the General at the compound saying that I needed to go into see him when I got there for my shift. So I went there and he told me that I needed to see him at the end of my shift. So I went again, and he starts with this whole speech about how many people I was helping and stuff, and I was thinking 'Oh, awesome, maybe a bit of extra money or even a promotion!' But then he started saying stuff like 'that was unfair to you' and he really started to confuse me. But then he said it. He said that he was relieving me from my post. My flight leaves tomorrow. I'm coming home." I smiled at her, my eyes wide with anticipation as I waited for her response.

I kept my eyes on him while I listened intently. I dropped my jaw a bit a this final words and accidentally squealed with excitement. "Oh my God are you serious?! That's amazing!" I said happily as I sat up and moved around a bit. "When do you think you'll get here?" I asked almost immediately and ran a hand through my hair.

"I know, its unbelievable!" I exclaimed, chuckling a little bit at her squeal of excitement "He said I should arrive around midday two days from now, cause its a really long flight, but I really don't care. I just...I can't believe I'm finally coming home again." My smile was as wide as it could possible be, but it got a little smaller as I realized that the question I was about to ask her could be...painful. "Yeah, so, uhm" I said, still smiling, but focusing on her "I was kind of wondering, I understand if you don't want to, but you know, I was thinking...do you wanna, maybe, meet when I get back." My eyes narrowed a little as I prepared myself for what could well be a 'no.'

I listened to his next question and noticed his hesitation and decided to play on it. My smile dropped and I crossed my arms. "You're kidding right? Why in the hell would I even bother saying no to that?! I was actually going to ask if you minded me picking you up from the airport," I said softly as I bit my lip nervously though I smiled ever so slightly.

When she started her sentence with "You're kidding me" my heart sank completely. But then she asked if she could pick me up from the airport, still in the very angry kind of tone, and I realized she was completely pulling my leg. "You realize" I said, after the heart stopping seconds of silence that it took me to work out what she was doing, but I was now smiling like a five year old again "That your little joke almost sent me into a coma. And...uh...I'd really love it if you came to the airport. That'd be amazing."

I laughed when he said I almost put him in a coma. "Just tell me the time and airport," I said as I pet a now larger Luna with a wide smile. I laughed a bit and knew I had to be glowing with happiness. "Ugh I'm so excited," I said as I bounced a bit and wiggled in my seat with a wider smile. I just couldn't wait to finally meet him in person.

"I'll text you the details now" I said, quickly typing them in and sending them to her "But, it should be around eleven oclock. Somewhere around there. Anyways, I gotta go pack. I'll see you in two days! Wait...theres a time difference. So I'll see you in less than two days? Or more? Who cares, I'll see you then." I gave her one last wide smile, then ended the call and ran around my apartment collecting all of my stuff. I couldn't believe I was actually going to meet her in person, something that I thought was just a dream. I thought if I ever went back to California, we would have long since stopped talking to each other. But it was happening.

The next morning when I arrived at the airport, I was looking super smart in my suit and tie, and I was texting Ashton with almost every step I took. I checked myself in, got to the plane, sat with a very boring accountant from Texas and before I knew it, I was flying over the airport about to land. When I got off the plane and got my bags, I waited next to the conveyor belt as we had agreed, looking over the whole airport to try and see her. I could hardly contain my excitement.

I glanced at my phone as I received the details and giggled as I waved goodbye. I spent the next two days just trying to find something to wear. When the day finally came, I decided on a pair of white shorts that showed off the bottom of the tattoo on my leg and a blue-green one shoulder top that left my entire tattooed arm bare. I brushed trough my hair and pinned it half up before doing my makeup carefully before slipping on a pair of sandals then left for the airport. I spent my time looking around before my eyes landed on a familiar face. I couldn't hold in my squeal as I jumped and ran over to him, instantly wrapping my arms around him in a tight hug.
