Greetings fellow roleplayers and welcome to one of my new, bigger projects. This one hopefully goes well. As you probably already understood, it is a fantasy roleplay. I will try to gather a small group of people to get this going and if need be, I will bring in more. But for now, up to five people will suffice.
This roleplay will be set in a medieval-ish fantasy world with some steampunk elements and will revolve around the group of players wandering about in the world. The main OOC goal of this roleplay is to gather a small group of players to get to know each other and spend time together in this roleplay, doing what needs to be done. The IC goal, however, for the characters will be much different. They won't gather round to chat and have fun. They will be called together to help the world vanquish a certain evil using the power they were gifted.
In this world, magic is rarely seen. It has been long forgotten by most people, only some have the knowledge of how to use it. One particular person in the story gifted several families a certain technology to give to their children and a letter. The technology was a glove and the letter could only be opened by the child. It was sealed shut. The letter was only to be opened on their twentieth birthday.
Exactly twenty years ago, several children were born. To each of the child's parents a visitor came, wearing black robes with only the contours white. They came bearing gifts - a strange glove with a mechanism on top and a letter which was apparently sealed by a magical spell so only a particular person could open it. "Give this to your child on the eighteenth birthday so it would be opened on the twentieth." The robed man said and left. And so each of the families did.
When it was time to open the letter, it said:
Greetings, _____.
With the gift your parents provided you, you have an exact year to reach The Shard and meet me in it's chambers. You must come alone and you must bring the gift with you. You were chosen by the Gods themselves to aid the world in it's remaining battles against the evil magical hordes. If you chose not to do so, please know that the blood of innocent people will be on your hands as we are not capable to protect them anymore. Not alone, at least.
We need your help and we ask of you to come to The Shard in exactly a year, on your twenty first birthday. This is when your training will begin and your adventures as a member of the Vanguard Forces will begin. We will be awaiting your presence.
Raymond Ratclif, Headmaster of The Shard.
