“Rue, Rue” the young girl awoke from her slumber with a jolt, the rubble shifting underneath the bags of cloth she had designated as a mattress. Tears welled in her eyes, another dream of mum. Light from the sun burned through clouds of ashes and skies of red to illuminate the small room. She peered over to see anorexic rodents scurrying away from the pile of food in the corner, “scat, get”. Standing up she stormed over to the corner, defending her territory. Wiping dirt and ash from a dented can of peaches she peered at the label. Greenery, trees, abundant fields with a farmer holding a peach on the front. The elders remembered that world but she was far too young to, all she had ever known was the chaos that was her home. Cracking open the lid and shoving her hand inside she shovelled the contents into her mouth. Ensuring not to spill a drop as if it were liquid gold.
~~~~~~~~
Short shallow breaths… Rue knew everything she needed to know. Now she was 14 it was her duty to her people. They had saved her, trained her, fed, clothed and sheltered her. Now was her opportunity to repay the resistance. Foraging missions were one thing but this was unlike anything she has ever experienced before. “RUN”, the signal. Picking up the pace she kept up with her team, she had nothing to worry about Carla was there, she was her mentor. She was formidable. Rue slid across the rubble ground into the remains of what used to be a car park. Deep breaths, keep it together. The tip of her gun pointing at the sky, ever since the attack there were things that weren’t here before. The elders talked of the great before often in the underground encampment.
After being found frail and looking for food one of the members of the rebellion has taken her in. She was only a child then, an orphan. Apparently in the great before the buildings weren’t rubble, you could eat as much as you wanted and things were for the most part good. After they came here however, everything changed. The world set on fire. No one knew why they were here but the how was more important, how were they going to keep living. People came together forming groups underground, hiding from the skies;, learning how to exist in this new environment, hoping for better days and trying to pave the way for the next generation. Although they were outmanned and overpowered they had something their enemies did not have: their indomitable human spirit. “SHOOT”, remember the training, aim for the head. She couldn’t waste precious ammunition on misfiring. Only the most accurate recruits were given guns, the rest were given more medieval weapons. Before lining up her shot an arrow pierced the throat making its way through the head. The Terrasoul plummeted to the ground and a smile swept across Rue’s face. That was Clara for you, she didn’t even need to use her gun. Right, mission focus, skies. Two of the recruits went out into the open with hunting knives tearing the Terrasoul apart. They were disguising looking things. Two, three meters long, their likeness was often associated with an enlarged wasp with a beak and arms of a praying mantis The blood that dripped out of them was an unnatural neon green which worked as a fuel source. Funny that.
Rue breathed out slowly, lining up her shot and pulled the trigger. Another came plummeting to the ground. The cylinders on the back of the scouts collecting fuel were nearly full when they all heard it. That unmistakable rumbling of a cluster of them, the sound of their crab-like legs accompanied by the dragging of their snake-like tails. Fnirs, they weren’t supposed to come through this area, not until tomorrow.. The options were narrowed down to a 5 human vs 7 Fnir rumble, trying to outrun 8 legs using two or hide or stay silent. Fnir didn’t have eyes but oh could they hear. The machines stopped sucking, everyone held their breath. The two scouts in the open were directly in their path. Rue, Carla and Rufus could do nothing but watch. Rue turned her head away, as one of the scouts' feet slipped on the recently gutted Terrasoul. In a truly honourable fashion Silven slipped off his full fuel cylinder before being torn limb from limb and devoured. Matty had decided to slip off hid pack and crawl into the corpse of the Terrasoul. Rue looked at Carla for instruction, they all did. That’s when she did the unthinkable she drew back her bow and shot. Guess 4 vs 7 doesn’t seem so rash when the love of your life was just torn limb from limb. Rue pulled her gun up, “fuck”.
~~~~~~~
“Fuck” yelled Rue sitting up, her alarm clock screeching at her. “Shut up, god damn” she groaned smacking it on the head. That nightmare… Again. Doing a midnight supply run home and running into a Fnir was probably the cause or maybe it was the pre new job jitters. This was the highest paying job she has ever had and she needed it. “Okay stupid corporate outfit that I spent way to much money on that could of been used on better things, you better make me shine hoe”. Rue had a habit of talking to inanimate objects. Pulling her brunette hair into a bun she slipped on the lowest pair of heels she could find which spent all week practicing in and made her way to the bus.
Opening her briefcase she looked through her notes quickly as she sipped on her coffee. My stop. Down the bus aisle, across the road, 3rd building on the leffftttttt. Ah Building. Rue took one last swig of her coffee, wiped her mouth clean with the back of her forearm, very lady-like, patted down her skirt and made her way into the building. “Rue, so good to finally meet you, I’ve only heard good things, welcome to the office”. Handshake, smile, follow, be agreeable. Rue repeated her notes in her head. She had come in half an hour early to be shown around and then she would get to meet the manager who would be showing her the ropes. “Oh Rue this is our kitchenette, help yourself”. They have a fucking lolly jar what? “This is lovely, I’ll put my lunch in the fridge”. Whether she was 7, 14 or 26 Rue was always a huge sweet-tooth. Once the tour was over she was left to wait at her new desk and set it up. Apparently the manager shouldn’t be long...
I mainly do romance and I usually play straight women but I'm pretty open. New to the cite, was recommended by an old friend.
If it is romance, I only with people over the age of 18+
