Lianne opened her eyes to greet another morning and a smile quickly came to her lips. Today was a big day for her, Today was her 5th anniversary with her boyfriend Ryan and according to him he had something 'special planned out for the day. Slowly she sat up from her bed and walked over to a stand in mirror. Looking at her reflection she smiled even wider, Finally... The day she's been waiting for. Lianne didn't want to put her hopes up way to high but she had a pretty strong feeling about what Ryan's 'Special' plan was. Still in front of the mirror she slowly raised her hands towards her mouth. She wanted to laugh, giggle and just jump up and down with excitement but she chose not to. She'll save it for when the 'Special' event actually happened. Turning around from her reflection she headed towards the bathroom to get herself ready when her phone suddenly beeped.

"Meet me in the Bistro Cafe for lunch? After that I'm taking you somewhere. i love you."

It was from Ryan... The Bistro was a place where she and him first met accidentally when they were only 17... That's where it all started... That's where their love story begun. Without hesitation she quickly walked inside the bathroom and got herself ready. Today she wanted to look her best, for some reason though she really wasn't sure if he was actually gonna do 'it'. Lianne just wanted to look good than she normally does today, the reason she didn't know why. But if there's anything she was sure about it is that she;s happy...So happy..

..... 10:30 AM

Satisfied with how she looks Lianne now made her way to her car, her white dress flowing smoothly till down to the hem, her beautiful black hair straight and soft brushing against her shoulders. Before entering her car she took out her phone and left Ryan a message.

"I'm on my way now. Are you there already?"

For a while she felt like adding another message to that short text she sends him.

"I love you ry... Always and forever. Always remember that."

Lianne found herself chuckling. What came into her? Why suddenly felt like sending a message like she was saying goodbye? "Silly..." With a shake of her head she tucked her phone inside her bag and entered the Drivers seat.

11:05 AM.....

Something's wrong... Lianne can somehow feel this heavy sensation in her chest. What the hell is this? It wasn't only a few minutes ago she felt like she was overjoyed and now this? Something suddenly felt... wrong.

Lianne was now driving at the Highway, she chose to take the shortest way possible towards the Bistro. She was both excited yet nervous at the same time for some reason. She kept her eyes on the road and saw that not many cars were on the road, a few meters ahead was an intersection.. Once she reached the stopped light she started tapping her steering wheel with her hands as she hummed along to the song on the radio... She stayed that way for a few minutes till the light went green

"Beep Beep" Her phone chimed.

As she steps on the gas her hands were reaching for her bag on the passengers seat where she kept her phone. For a brief second she took her eyes off the road and went to her bag. With success she felt it in her hands and she quickly sat straight again as she looked at her phone. Seeing the message was from Ryan a smile came to her lips. "I knew he'd say-" Before she can continue what she was about to say, a loud horn coming from a truck caused her to drop her phone. Then slowly the truck got closer and closer till it made impact.... Her car tumbled back once... Then twice...Then thrice before stopping upside down.

"Ryan...." Lianne fought hard to speak, her eyes closing as she was about to doze off. "Ryan...." She repeated again.... Then everything went black as her breathing stopped and her life came to an end.

Today was that day, the day his world crumbled. It was perfect, everything was perfect. He had a good job, friends who adore him, a family that loves, but most of all, he has her. Lianne. "Why? Why did you leave me?!" He shouted, throwing a glass of vodka on the wall. He was sobbing, just like he did every day after that day, the day everything faded away. She was perfect, she was everything he wanted, and apparently, he was everything she wanted. It was all perfect, all was perfect.

That day was supposed to be a happy one, a day to remember. But it was only remembered by him, for the dead often forget what happened when they died. He was waiting in the cafe, the very place they first met. He was hoping that it'd also be the place where he takes things a step further. He looked at the ring again, hoping she would like it. It was just a simple ring, a silver engagement ring, nothing too special about it, but he knew that's the reason she'll love it. It was their 5th anniversary, and Ryan, which is what she calls him, was about to propose to her. Butterflies were in his stomach, not because he was afraid that she might decline, but because he wondered if everything would go as planned. He was hoping that it would be a surprise, but Lianne surprised her even more.

"Why? Why?" He said, kneeling down. "Why did you leave me? We loved each other, we were happy. Why Lianne?" He said, tears streaming down his face. Ever since that day, the sun never shines for him, the birds never sings, the wind never whistles and the world began to die. He started to lose everything. His business partner fled, taking away all of their profit. He was buried in debt, and his friends left him. His family was ashamed, and they forsake him. Nothing was left, not his job, not his friends, not his family, not even her. Nothing was left. He wanted to die, but he couldn't bring himself to do it. Whenever he tries to shoot himself, his hands tremble, making him drop the gun. Every time he tries to drink poison, his head spins and makes him empty the container's content down the sink. Whenever he tries to hand himself, his legs grows weak, making himself fall down before he even got a chance to wrap it around his neck.

Life had no meaning for him, he found no reason to live, and yet, life continues to play with him. "You left me, you left.." He said, clutching the ring. He never threw it away even if he would never use it again. It was the only thing that had meaning to him, the promise that was not fulfilled, the dream that did not happen. "Why? Why?" He said to himself, the alcohol taking over his brain, making him fall in a deep and troubled sleep.

8:05pm

Wiping coffee tables, faking a smile, cleaning up other people's mess was now Gigi's job. Ugh how she hated it! The young Korean native was working at a local cafe downton where in she was a waitress, she didn't know a part time job at a cafe would actually be this complicated. Her hair was braided, one on each side like a three year old girl. Her apron now messy with all the coffee spills it had. Frowning she walked over to the kitchen and slammed the tray against the cold counter. "Ugh!" She grunted in frustration.

"Gigi! What the hell is going on in there?!" Gigi's eyes grew wide in hearing her boss' voice from the counter. Clearing her throat she quickly thought of an excuse. "S-Sorry it- umm it fell! Yeah...." Scratching her head she made her way towards the Cafe again as number of customers came in, most during the day were students who would order a cup of coffee and stay in hours after hours only to use the free wifi. Oh how Gigi hated that, sometimes she would unplugged the connection on purpose just so they would leave! Then at night just like right now the customers would often be couples, if not still students who probably doesn't even have a job and took money from their parents to take girls out on a date.

Gigi found this whole couple thing annoying, all that PDA was just too much for her. She never was a fan of couples who would be all smoochy as they walked along the street. Like hello can't they tell people are watching? As of right now a man in his mid 30's was sitting across a girl who looked like she was only 18, their hands both on the table and holding each other. "Gross...." Gigi quickly closed her eyes and took a deep breath. "Few more minutes Gigi... Few more minutes and you are out of here... Just hold it in."

"Excuse me waiter?" A random customer called.

Slowly opening her eyes she faked a smile yet again. "Yes ma'am anything I can get you?" Mentally she gave herself a pat on the back for sounding so sincere like she actually gave a damn.

He slowly stood up, supporting himself using the bed. His knees were weak from the alcohol, his brain hurts like hell. It feels like someone is piercing a spear from the inside, like Athena breaking free from the skull of Zeus. He stood up, his whole body screaming in agony. In his intoxicated mind, he could literally hear his body screaming. "Shut up!" He yelled, hoping his body would listen. "I'm going to get up, I don't care if you scream all day!" He shouted again, his body not ceasing its screams.

Coffee, coffee might be good. He slowly walked outside, grabbing his keys. He knew he was drunk, but he gave no f*ck about it. He knew it would be worth the risk. If he died, everything would end. If he didn't die, he would have a good cup of coffee in his hands. He drove, not sure which cafe to visit. He would have normally resented to go back there, but today was their anniversary, so he made an exception.

The trip to the cafe was a blur, he didn't even remember how he got here. He was just thankful that no policeman pulled him over. He walked inside the cafe, slightly off balance. He went to the registrar, who was a pleasant young lady. "I want espresso, double shot." He said, paying for it. He grabbed his coffee and went to a table, their table. It was where they first met, and where he was when she died. He shook his head, not wanting to have those memories resurfacing. For now, he just wants to enjoy his coffee, nothing more, nothing less.

Gigi's attention was suddenly caught by her female co worker's squeal and excitement. Over what she wasn't so sure. Feeling rather irritated by their never endless squeaking she threw the piece of cloth she was wiping the Kitchen table with and stormed out of the kitchen and went over to the counter where in three other girls named Loraine, Wilma, and Sasha were peeking over a customer who was drinking coffee in his hand.

Gigi was disgusted by their actions, how can girls act this day now a days? No wonder almost half of the women population got their selves knocked up. One of the girls, Sasha called out to Gigi urging her to come take a closer look on how cute the guy was. From the distance where she stood she can already tell. Gigi made a 'Not Bad' face but quickly shrugged it off. Yes he was cute, but... Something was off about him. She wasn't sure what but she can just feel it.

"You girls are idiots." She said as she turned around from them and saw that a tray of Croissants was now empty. Ugh! All three of them was here and not even one of them noticed that a tray was empty!? Gigi clenched her jaw as she fought the urge not to pull their hairs and throw them out of the Bistro. Does she have to do everything alone in here?!

Walking back inside the kitchen she took the Tray of freshly baked croissant from the Head Baker and placed it inside the Glass case in front of the Counter near the cashier for customers to see. Glancing at her clock it was now 8:40 and she remembered a promo they have every 8:30 in the evening till 9:30. They should give any customer in the Bistro a free slice of their special cheesecake. Glancing over to the girls she knew how they probably would have wanted to do this and have a chance to talk to the cute customer they were so on about. A smile slowly crossed her lips at her idea.

Gently Gigi placed a perfectly sliced cheesecake into a plate and placed a fork on the side. Before walking towards him she held her chin up and flipped her double braid's over her shoulder. "Show time."

"Excuse me sir, here is a free sample of the Bistro's special cheesecake, its f-" Gigi found herself lost in words, she suddenly didn't know what to say as she stood in front of him. Her eyes on his, but what stopped her wasn't just anything... It was the way he looked at her. As far as Gigi can tell he looked like he's seen a ghost. "A- Are you okay... Sir?" At a closer look she can see the dark circle under his eyes, has he even been sleeping? Like ever? Gigi doubted. As the awkwardness started to get more intense she quickly placed the Cheesecake to his table and she took her eyes away from him. "Is there umm an-anything else sir?"

He drank his coffee, taking a few sips every so often. He truly loved drinking coffee, more so when Lianne went in his life. Coffee was one of the things they both loved, and it was what brought them together.

It was a Sunday afternoon as he recalled. He was in a lot of pressure at that time, his studies, extracurricular activities, everything was piling up, as if the world was on his shoulders. He had been in the cafe, drinking coffee and doing his papers, his brow creased as he struggled to concentrate. He stood up to get more coffee when he accidentally bumped into this girl, or rather, she bumped into him. He was truly frustrated, the girl's coffee splattered all over his clothes. He was mad, he faced the woman, for she was behind him, and started to chew her out. But instead, he fell silent, his mouth hung open. She was beautiful, and he was saying that as an understatement. He apologized and asked her if it's okay for him to buy her a new one, and they talked and talked and talked.

After that, they saw each other more often. They'd visit each other's houses, go to dinner together, watch a movie, but every year on their anniversary, they always returned to that cafe, the place where their story started, and where it ended. He wanted to just break down, just like his life, but he could not afford to do so. His pride, how much of it remained, was all that he has now, and he won't risk losing it.

A waitress, obvious in her feminine voice, said something about a promo and a cake. But what got his attention was her voice, it sounded familiar, too familiar. He slowly looked up, and all the blood from his face was gone. He was really pale, his mouth hung open in shock. "L-Lianne." He said, seeing the woman. She looked exactly like Lianne, from the hair to the eyes, everything was exactly the same. "H-How, w-wha-" He said, unable to form a coherent statement.

Glancing behind her Gigi made sure whether the man was actually talking to her or someone else. Lianne? Who the hell is that? Her eyebrows furrowed as her eyes went back down on him. Gigi could just swear he looked like he was both overjoyed and struck with so much shock at the same time. But then again his eyes were only on her, who else could he be talking to?

"I'm sorry what?" She said leaning slightly closer to the person thinking she probably misheard what he said, after all he was stuttering and all that so what he said was very indistinct to her. With a quick glance behind her she caught a glimpse of her three co workers throwing her dagger looks. Gigi would have found that funny, if only it wasn't for this guy right in front of her.

"Sir.... I think you already had way too many sleepless nights to have another cup of coffee." She teased and turned her back on him. She didn't want to seem rude, it was just that somehow she felt bad for him... And she didn't know why.

He couldn't believe it, it really was her. He abruptly stood up, surprising her. His coffee dropped to the floor, it's contents spilled all across the floor, but he didn't care. She was there, Lianne was there. He knew there was someone talking, but he heard nothing but muted chatters, he knew someone was staring at him, but he could not feel it, he knew someone thinks he must be crazy, and to be honest, that person was him. "No, she's dead. I saw her body in the morgue. I saw her being buried." The rational part of his brain thought. But even that part was confused and hopeful at the same time. Could it be, that everything that happened since that day, since that day 3 years ago, was all a dream, a long and horrible nightmare that he has endured, and that now, he had just woken up. "Lianne, you're back." He said, wrapping the woman, no, wrapping Lianne in his arms, tears streaming down his face.

Gigi wanted to pulled away but his arms were literally wrapped to tight around her. She couldn't believe what was happening, guy comes up to the cafe, looks at her like his seen a ghost and is now hugging her like they knew each other before. Her eyes grew wide as she glanced back to her co workers who were obviously as shock as her. With all her strength she pushed him away and straightened her apron that was crumpled up by his tight embrace.

She eyed him for a while, looking at him from head to toe. He looked really decent in Gigi's eyes, probably in anyone's eyes. Who would have thought he was some crazy nutshell? "What are you crazy!?" she said as she fixed her hair that was now falling from her face, but her braids still perfectly intact. He was drunk, the stench of alcohol was so strong as he hugged her, no wonder he was acting this way. Calming herself she took a deep breath and cleared her throat before looking back at his eyes. "Sir I- I think you need to get home. Now." She said in finality as she turned her back from him again. His eyes as tears streamed down from it Gigi noticed was full of pain... misery and suffering. For a moment she became curious as to why he called her 'Loraine'. Was it a previous girlfriend? A good friend he lost? A sister maybe? She didn't know. But if there's anything she was sure of, it's that she felt bad for him. That his pain was so strong anyone could tell he's going through something rough... Something he can't seem to move on from.
