The City With No Name
The City had a name once. Numerous names in fact, I dare say that it will in all likelihood have a name in the near future. But at this moment? The City has NO name.
This particular quirky fact can trace it's roots back to the 'Great Rewrite' event of the 2070's. Facing the challenge of turning around the desolate wasteland that the city was quickly becoming to the average citizen. Someone near the top of the government had a brilliant idea while at drinks with his corporate friends to sell the city's name. For five year slots, you could be the first thing that everyone sees and remembers of one of the most populated cities in the world. This idea was quickly put into action and the arguable benefits outweighed the various names the city has had. Public libraries at Amazon.com was pretty solid in 2084, and the parks built in Raukawa Corp in 2091 were gorgeous. They were next door to each other as well!
Two years ago the corporation that had taken this half-decade slot suddenly collapsed in lawsuits and calls of national treason. This has cause a little turmoil in the legal proceedings of the City's name change. A lot of paperwork had to be looked over and a lot of expensive lawyers called in. But with two years left on the name claim, it seems the general consensus became to just kind of...leave the whole issue until the next term?
This place has had many names, so no name as the name for this city with changing names is better then no name for a city that needs a name.
Got it?
C.I.C.I.
CICI, or Chip Interpersonal Conduction Interface if you want to hear the anacronym that doesn't really make that much sense is the Cyber implant that all humans have inserted into their brainstem in this City. Well, all humans who don't want to lose the sixth vital sense of the twenty-second century. It allows us to engage with facets of life in so many new ways. Not to mention sweet VR, woo!
For you my friend, it's a cornerstone of your education. From homework to texting your friends in maths class it's fundamental to your life both in and out of school. You'll be getting a lot of use out of it so make sure to get familiar with it.
Now if only everything wasn't in an unreadable yellow font.
Cybernetic Enhancements
The twenty second century is the century of cybernetics. Legs that can make you jump two stories. Arms that can make you punch through steel. Eyes that can see in six different frequencies. Mantis Blades, cause they look cool. You're human flesh can be swapped out for any tool your credits can pay for.
Fortunately or unfortunately, the government foresaw the problems that could arise from these developments pretty early on in the lifespan of cybernetics. There was harsh regulations enforced on what type of cybernetics were allowed and on whom. Weaponised Cybernetics were strictly forbidden to any normal citizen. So they're only really seen for soliders, well connected Corpo's or the odd Nutjob here and there.
For regular cybernetics, there's an supposed ban on any enhancement under the age of twenty one baring an strict permit you can get for health reason. But this really has made regular enhancements take the place of tattoos in the early twenty first century. Some students have one or two, but most are hampered by the cost of getting something, the shadiness of those willing to do it on 'minors' and the reputation that comes with having them that young. Still, in Academy Six you see a student with a cybernetic eye or hand.
Academy Six
One of the many public education facilities set up in the 'Great Rewrite' of the 2070's. With a sudden influx of public funding, the usually impotent local government went to tackle a problem that had been rising in the last decades. There was barely anywhere for people to send their kids to anymore. Private or corporation schools had pushed out other education functions by being able to fund themselves and grow with the backing of the powers.
Simply put those less fortunate often had to just send their kids to work 'cause there was no other choice. The solution to this was to build public facilities for any citizen of the city to have their kids learn a good education. Of course, this project was overshot a little bit in terms of size and budget. Schools were built alright, a lot of them. All held thinly together in a infrastructure meant for half the amount they built. Over the decades, a lot of them have been shut down, destroyed, or taken over for some other nefarious purpose.
These Academies have also partaken in selling the naming rights of the school, money had to be found somewhere. Though for this particular academy there seems to be a refusal to call it by it's sponsored name of- [REDACTED]
But for those that remain, they are a very recognisable black cube of steel and glass that signifies that in some way that your the type of person who can have their organs harvested and not too many people will complain.
Flanagan's Bar
If there's one thing that seemed to have survived a century of culture shifts and failures. It's the need for an Irish bar for working adults to drink their pain away. A shame then that Flanagan's is in no terms used by working adults nor owned or used by anyone even somewhat Irish.
No rather it's the place where the Dropout Gang spend most of their time doing what they do best. Still, the music is alright and the pints are cheap so if you don't mind your drinking buddies being a bunch of ex-student gang members then come down by!
UPDATE FOR CHAPTER 2:
It's going through repairs now after a certain study group caused some havoc in it on a particularly rowdy night.
Drop Out Gang
The fate of many students who stop going to academy six is left forever unknown to others. But then a decided majority of those who we do know the immediate fate of after leaving education is to go and become a member of the relatively fresh Drop Out Gang.
Oh certainly it's a gang in forms of a large group doing illegal things with a set hierarchy. But the crimes that these ex students get up to compared to the actual gangs of the City with no name is real mickey mouse stuff. Mainly underaged drinking and vices with a side of fights and mischief. A few stolen cars here and there. Nothing that a wised citizen could not easily avoid. Still they look down on those who have stayed in education while welcoming (with a small hazing period) those who embrace the cynicism that is a teenager's life with nothing to do.
As you get to the higher ups of the gang you get closer to ex students who increasingly have greater plans for using these bunch of no-lifers to do something more...rebellious for the Drop Out gang.
Perhaps if they had stayed in education they would have thought of a more creative name.
UPDATE FOR CHAPTER 2:
The study group have gotten on the bad side of the sometimes harmless sometimes lethal gang. Everyone's pretty sure that Spyder guy isn't under their control anymore, if he ever was. But having the two leaders hold a personal grudge against everyone can't be a good sign.
Dregs
There's a lot of actual gangs in the City With No Name. Not rebellious high school students but actually criminal enterprises of all shapes and sizes. But given that each one usually has it's own style or rules. It's bound to have some people get kicked out of them for reasons spanning from dress code up to running for their life. These criminals who have already basically cut themselves off from any other gang due to their previous affiliation are called one thing. Dregs. Usually their good for a cheap job. Small time robbery or shanking some poor sod. You wouldn't give them any big time jobs given that they now have a stained name as fuck ups. Still, these losers can sometimes form their own little posse's. Get a few of them together and surprising things can happen.

Matthew Moore
Affiliation: Academy Six
Code: #B8312F
Desc: A snarker, seller, and all around layabout. Matthew attends the class often but seems to have no wish to actually do anything. In a way he kind of represents many of the regular students out of the study group. Perfectly content to let whatever happens happen.
Sharman Argo-Yano "Mr.Yano"
Affiliation: Academy Six
Code: #FFCA8E
Desc: The 'Homeroom' teacher for the year. Seems to be one of the few faculty members who actually cares about planting some knowledge in life. Even if he is a bit scatty.
Update Chapter Two:
He was lost, and then you found him. But was he actually lost? Depends who you asked.
Kalah Kaeilah
Affilation: Academy Six
Colour Code: #DA5771
Desc: The poor woman who has to look over most of the first year classes. She must have a strong spirit because that job does not stay with one person for too long. She's also the sub for the classroom. And a sub for the principal?
The Twins
Ansel: #C7293B and Marion: #2EDAB7
Affilation: Drop Out Gang
Desc: The two leaders of the Gang of troublesome ex-students of Academy six have a wide range of wants and beliefs. The Siblings seem mainly focused on having a good time and giving a finger to the education system and society itself. Mainly in and around the confines of their HQ.
Now if only they weren't so fucking weird with eachother.
Update Chapter Two:
They are also now quite aware of the Study Group. (And of two people in particular). Rumour is the events in the bar that night have led them to think of changes in their plans.
Kyle(s)
Affilation: Drop Out Gang
Desc: There seems to be numerous workers for Flanagan's bar that bare the name Kyle. They must go by nicknames.
Spyder ('Kyle')
Affilation: Drop Out Gang and ???
Colour Code: 04EB35
Desc: The gangster who loves a good payday and harassing high school students. Wanna know why he's called Spyder? Let's go find out.
Update Chapter Two:
His fighting superiority was shown first hand against the study group. Why did he even want to harass the study group that much? Does him knowing about them put everyone in danger? Will they ever see him again. WHY WAS HE CALLED KYLE!?
Liam Cully
Affilation: Police?
Colour Code: 54ACD2
Desc: The probation officer for Morissa. He pops up every so often at crime scenes and one another. Not sure what exact part of the police he works for though.
"For info on Mechanics and other less important info!...Why did I say that?"
RULES:
- Regular RPN rules apply.
- Please adhere to the posting format
- Be Nice....Be Nice.
- Write your posts in a way that moves things along or can be interacted with. Entire Cut-Off Solo Posts are heavily discouraged but not outright banned as they can have reasons to exist.
- Remember to tag players who you are directly interacting with when writing your replies.
- This is not permission to ignore Posts not Tagging you. (GM posts for one will often use @ - Everyone, for example)
- NPC creation and use is generally forbidden. Please focus on playing your own character. Characters can be mentioned or described but not individually controlled.
- There is no post order. If you can come up with a reply feel free to write it. Double posting (making a post right after your previous one) is still not allowed.
- If you and one other are finding a quick rhythm with posting with each other, perhaps turn it into a Collab to be posted when Finished.
- GM posts are considered to 'reset' any unofficial posting order you may feel in a situation.
- If you feel like the main IC is tiring you out, feel free to use the Discord Shenanigans channel to not feel completely lost to the RP while taking a breather. RP player characters not actively posting are considered to be taking days off or being quiet on the group adventure.
- If you feel the need to take a break or depart, I understand. Your IRL responsibilities and events are 100% more important, and the same applies on my side as well. Communicating said absences or departures will be much appreciated.
Acceptance Order:
Here is the steps to be accepted.
- Read the post to assure yourself of the mechanics and world of the rp.
- Fill out the CS provided, Post it in the Interest Check.
- Tag Rithas in the post if the Character sheet is completed, if Sheet is completed later then please Tag Rithas to alert them of said completion.
- Rithas Reads over your character sheet, if no edits are needed. Title and Discord link will be provided.
- Once CS/Lore thread is up, post said accepted sheet there.
- You have fulfilled the Acceptance Order and are now free to post in IC
In terms of acceptance numbers. The first sign up period is allowed to go over the suggested Cast amount. This in due to the belief that like all RPs Mine will not be immune to the average amount of early drop outs, a natural part of a start of a RP. Adding a buffer with permitted sheets allows for not going under the wanted amount after the initial shaking off period.
Now, if the amount of sheets manages to go even over the amount of buffer I think needed then I will begin to stall new signups or add them to a list of backups. We will see if we get to that point with actual sheets submitted.
Cybernetic Trophy Graphics:
There's nothing more highschool students love more then showing off cool trinkets and backgrounds they have. The coolest people are obviously the ones with the most rare and custom C.I.C.I interface.
How does one obtain things like this and become totally hip and epic?
I've heard it's as simple as doing certain things. For some reason everything is tracked and you get awarded these backgrounds for doing stuff. Try and collect the most, that'll totally mean something in this RP
: )
EXAMPLE SHOW CASE:
*Insert Character Name*: Awarded with the Example Trophy - "Wow, Examples are my favourite thing!" (This Background comes with the background text of this very own interest check, wow so meta!) - Meta Collection.
Missions:
Part of any Study Group is to set a directive on what to be studied, or sometimes as a community focus on problems that certain members are having. These tasks to be dealt with are called missions. From major importance to side chores that characters feel the need to deal with. The path to achieving an end to them is open and the outcome from said decisions is up for the Study Group to decide.
Di(c)e of Fate:
Your characters actions and words this year will lead them to many types of problems. But finding the perfect decision for the situation can be hard when walking into an unknown and hostile world. Sometimes, it may be best for your character to try and enforce their will to change the pathway that fate was building. But these Acts of will can be an imperfect solution to a problem being faced, so there's always a little bit of luck involved.
Acts of Will from player characters will involve a roll of the dice, with the straight success being on a 1. The range on the dice depends on two things.
- The category of action being taken: The three categories that an Act of Will can be are Physical for actions of strength speed or dexterity , Charm in actions dealing with persuading other people or an performance, Cyber in actions involving CICI or other technological devices. A character's speciality category will have increased odds of succeeding in said category.
- The size of challenge: From average to very hard, All Acts of Will could be difficult, but some attempts may be truly against the odds.
Please Note that these rolls of fate are purely for occasions where a character wishes to play their cards to enact a change of pathways directly rather then through more complicated means. They are not for everyday actions.
Rolls will be through Discord, where examples of how to do so is given.
