A bit nervous about posting this. But I figured, the worst that can happen is the thread gets closed and I get told that it is. I have been RPing for, forever and then some. But one of my favorite ways to RP was with an IRC chat and an original setting.
It had a lore wiki and people logged into the chat daily and were happy to pick up random RP. Most people played during the evenings EST, so knowing that.. you could reliably log in and get random roleplay in a chat room at any time. It allowed RP development between events. Events were scheduled in advance - like on say, a wednesday if your character was part of the criminal organization in the city, you could log in for some kind of criminal adventure.
Whereas open adventures, or social events might take place on another day. Sometimes our DMs would spontaneously create an off-the-cuff event if enough people were on. In addition to this, there was forum RP. It did have its' own dice system but it was pretty simple and just relied on the use of roll functions in the IRC server. It had its' faults, but overall I really liked the way it was set up. If I could have all my text-only RP be that way, I would.
My question is this - Is posting interest checks for even small groups that rely on chat/real time RP events frowned upon? I am not so ambitious as to create something that big but if/when I do DM again, I'd love to be able to get a smaller group of people together and run some combo of Forum RP and scheduled chat events. Where people RP their characters in real time to interact with each other, fight monsters and solve puzzles. Then, they can RP with each other, or in the forums during down time.
I'm just not sure if RPN is cool with people advertising that kind of RP, since a major portion of the RP would not take place on its' forums? There would be stuff on RPN, but it would not all be there.
