A girl's distant relative has just died giving her an inheritance. The problem is there was a clause witten in the relative's will that states the girl cannot collect her inheritance until she is married. (For some reason I will decide later) The girl can't wait that long, seeing she has no boyfriend and is not even near a point in her life where she would even concider getting married. However she really needs the money and she is determined to get it as soon as possible, at all costs.

So in order to be able to get her inheritance the girl comes up with a crazy plan. She is going to convince her best guy friend to pretend to her boyfriend. They would both have to convice her family they are madly in love, then get engaged and eventually married. Afterwards the girl would finally get her inheritance and give a percentage of it to the guy. Then a few months after the wedding they could devorce, pretend like it just didn't work out, and go their sperate ways. At least that is how the plan is supposed to work.

]Melody was sitting in the back of a little coffee shop where she often liked to go. Normally she felt very at ease sitting in the cozy little shop hidden in the corner, as the scent of coffee filled the room, but today was different. She was feeling extremly nervous as she waited for her best friend to arrive.

She sat facing the door, every time she heard the little ring of bell signaling somone's enterance her head would shoot up as she anxiously looked to see if it was Cecil. She became more nervous with every second that passed and he still wasn't there. She obsessively checked her phone for messeges, becoming worried that maybe be had forgotten he was supposed to meet her.

She had something big she needed to tell him, and she was afraid of how he would react. She had gone over in her head exactaly what she would say about a million times now. It was a crazy idea but ever since she heard about her inheritance she knew she had to find a way to get it, even if it did mean getting married. If she didn't she would loose her apartment and would have to move back home which was the last thing she wanted. So in order to keep her apartment and her current life, she was going to have to convince her best friend to marry her.

A few blocks away from the little coffee shop where Cecil intended to meet up with his good friend Melody, the young man walked along with his hands in his pockets, looking down at the ground. It was dark and cloudy that day, and the young ruffian wished he would have brought a sweatshirt along with him that had a hood. He knew it was about to start raining at any moment. Anticipating rain on a day like this, however, was obvious. Anticipating that he would take a punch straight in the face, however, was not.

When he sensed that someone was in front of him and looked up to see who it was, he realized it was a member of his gang just before he was punched by said man. Growling and holding onto his cheek, Cecil glared at him. "Dude, what the heck was that about?" he questioned, taking a couple steps back.

"That, CJ, is just a warning to you. You steal from me again, and I will beat your head into the pavement. Do you understand?"

The sandy haired male averted his gaze from the man, just barely noticing as it began to rain and wet down his hair. "I didn't steal anything."

The man glared at him with dark green eyes. "Apparently, you're a liar and a thief. Well, I'll tell you what. I'll give you three days to return what you took from me. If you don't, I'll visit you again and give you more than just a little punch to the face. Do we have an understanding?"

Snorting, Cecil shook his head and began to walk away, still holding his cheek. "We don't. I have no idea what you're talking about. I didn't take anything from you. And because of you, I'm late for something. Now leave me alone." Cecil quickly picked up his pace, to head to the coffee shop where he was to meet Melody. He knew she wasn't going to be happy to see a fresh black eye when they met up.

After a few more minutes of walking, Cecil eventually arrived at the coffee shop, opening the door and causing the little bell at the entrance to ring. He stomped his feet a couple times on the doormat to dry them from rainwater before looking for Melody. Once he spotted her, he waved quickly with one hand, making sure to keep his other hand over his black eye. He walked up and sat down with her, sighing.

"Sorry I'm late. I had a heck of a time getting here," he admitted, leaning back in his chair.

Hearing the small ring of the bell Melody's head shot up in a second. Relief washed over her when she saw Cecil step into the small shop. Standing up she waited for him to come closer and sit before she sat down again across from him. "You're soaking wet , you should have brought an umbrella, you're going to catch a cold. Honestly Cecil it wasn't like you didn't know it would rain, you could tell just by looking at the sky" She scolded him for not planning ahead.

She completely forgot about the whole reason she had asked him to meet her as she noticed how was hiding his eye from her. A strange look forming on her face as she stared at him"What happened on the way over here? Why are you holding your eye like that? Did you get in a fight again?" She ask quickly bearly pausing between questions, becoming worried. She knew he had a tendency to get himself into trouble and she always felt responsible for looking out for him and making sure he didn't get into too much trouble.

Using the hand he wasn't covering his eye with, Cecil began to ring a bit of water out of his sweatshirt, sighing when Melody suggested that he should have brought an umbrella with him. "Umbrellas are for sissies. I thought about bringing a jacket with a hood, but decided not to. I thought I would make it here before the rain started. Guess I was wrong. Oh well," he said with a shrug, squeezing on his wet sweatshirt a few more times before giving up.

The young man frowned seeing the expression on Melody's face suddenly shift. He knew that look all too well. He saw that look on her face whenever she was worried about him for getting into some kind of trouble. He dropped his hand after a moment, realizing it was no use hiding it from her. "I tripped and fell down the stairs of my porch this morning," he lied, averting his gaze from her. "But it's not a big deal. We came here to hang out, not to chat about my ugly mug," he said, smiling slightly.

Melody just rolled her eyes and shook her head as he said 'Umbrellas were fore sissies' "Jeeze you're so difficult. You better not call me asking me to bring you soup when you get sick" She teased a small smile tugging at the corners of her mouth. Seeing the black eye her mouth fell open, she didn't believe his story even for a second. " Cecil! you have to stop getting into fights, you're going to get yourself seriously hurt one day" She whined. She worried one day he would get himself in too deep of trouble that he wouldn't be able to get out again. "Dose it hurt?" She then asked softly concern thick in her voice, maybe she should get him some ice?

At the mention of the reason he had come she suddenly remembered why she had asked him there in the first place. "About that...." She said trailing off and sucking in a deep breath suddenly her stomach was doing flips. "C.J. there's something I need to ask you..something really big okay?" She asked glancing at him before looking down at her lap searching for the right way to say what she was trying to say. "You have to promise not to laugh or freak out. This is serious, I wouldn't even be asking you if I have another choice" She rammbled, avoiding saying what she was really trying to say because she was so afraid of what he might say or do.

"Great, I won't have to call you asking you to bring me soup. I won't need any because I'm not going to get sick," Cecil teased. When she whined over his black eye, he immediately wanted to cover it with his hand again, but restrained himself from doing so. "I didn't get a black eye because of a fight, all right? I was accused of something I didn't do and ran into trouble. Even when I'm not looking for trouble it seems to find me, apparently." He gently touched around his eye when she asked him if it hurt, trying to decide whether or not it hurt bad enough to put ice on it. It did hurt, but he didn't want to look like a weakling that needed to treat his injury. So he shrugged it off. "I'll be fine. No need to worry about me.."

The male raised an eyebrow when Melody trailed off, glancing to his friend. "It must be something serious. You look even more freaked about about whatever this is than you did a second ago when you saw my black eye. Did someone upset you? Is there someone I need to beat up?" he asked, slightly teasing. In truth, he most certainly would have hurt someone who bothered Melody, and the both of them knew it, but in this case he was only joking to get her to try and perk up.

"That's what you think" She mumbled, she didn't understand why he insisted on acting so tough all the time. It was stupid how he refused to bring an unbrella just because it would make him look less tough, or how he pretended like things didn't hurt when they did. "I knew you didn't trip!" She said gloating since she had been right after all. " Well if you didn't intentionally get yourself in to trouble all the time it wouldn't be following you. Just be careful okay?" She said with a sigh. She was still contemplating whether or not to get him ice but he instisted it was okay so she decided to leave it alone.

Looking up when he asked if there was someone she needed him to beat up for her. She shook her head quickly waving her hands. "No, No, None of that" She said and dropped her hand back into her lap. "It is serious though. so just hear me out" She sucked in a deep breath trying to muster up her nerve. "Okay, you know how my grandmother died a few months ago? Well I just found out she left my sister and I a HUGE inheritance, like really big. Which is great right? Except for she decided to be difficult and make it so we can't get our inheritance until we get married. That's not a problem for my sister because she's already getting married but me on the other hand... I'm not even close. Normally that wouldn't be a problem, but I'm about to be out of money. Which means I'm going to lose my apartment and have to drop out of my classes and move back home. And really I would rather die than do that so I Need to get that inheritance... So what I'm asking is will you marry me?" She said hardly taking time to breath as she explained everything. She looked up at him as if he was a bomb that would explode at any moment.

Running a hand through his hair, Cecil let out a long sigh. "Okay, you're right, I didn't trip." Why did Melody have to be so attuned to him that she was so easily able to tell when he was lying? Sometimes he wished that she didn't know him as well as she did. It was the price he paid for having been her friend so long, and most of the time it wasn't an issue. He just felt bad that it caused her to worry so much. "I'll try my best to be careful like I always do. This time I can assure you it wasn't me who went looking for the trouble. Someone thought I stole something that belonged to them--which I didn't--and they made it clear that they weren't happy about it."

Folding his arms and raising an eyebrow, Cecil nodded when Melody told him to listen to her. "Okay, I'm listening, go on..." The young man listened to his friend, not surprised by most of her words until he heard her last sentence. In reaction to her words, he burst out laughing. He couldn't help himself either. He thought that she was joking. "Oh, Melody, that's a good one. Can you picture US married? I mean, really can you picture that?" He had always seen Melody as a good friend or even like a little sister. He couldn't picture them together as a couple. "You're joking, aren't you? So what did you really want to tell me?" he asked with an amused smile on his face.

(ooc: Sorry my reply took so long! My family kept me out shopping longer than I had expected. xD And I'm exhausted so I'm gonna need to get to bed. I'll give you another reply tomorrow though! ^_^ )

"Are you sure you didn't take anything from them? Maybe you did and you just forgot" She asked once she heard the full story of how he had gotten the black eye. "And if you didn't, you need to make sure they know that because they might do something worse next time" She said with a frown. This wouldn't be the first time Cecil had gotten mixed up in one of these situation and Melody had to help get him out. Although she knew he really didn't want her help some of the time, or most of the time, she felt like it was her job help him whether he wanted ir or not.

When she had finally gotten out what she was trying to say her face stayed completely serious as she watched for a reaction. When he burst into laugher she frowned deeply she knew he wouldn't be able to take her seriously, but could she blame him? What she was asking him to do was crazy. "Cecil, I'm not joking." looking him dead in the eye. " I really need you to marry me. It will all be fake of course, we just need to convince my family we're a real couple. Afterwards I'll give you a cut of the money and we can divorce sayign it didn't work out" She explained. Of course she couldn't imagine them ever being a real couple. they were so diffrent it would never work, besides that just seemed weird to her. All they would have to do is pretend it couldn't be that hard could it?

(It's okay I understand. I'm not sure how much I'll be on tomorrow, becuase I'm having a party and I need to prepare and stuff but I'll try to reply when I get the chance.)

(It's okay. ^_^ Have a good time at your party! )

Cecil thought over Melody's words, hesitating to reply. "Well, I didn't take a material object from this person," the young man replied, glancing to the side again. In truth, he did take something from the other man, but this something wasn't an item so much as it was... alive. "I don't really know how this guy found out, but it's none of his concern anymore." He lowered his voice, speaking mostly to himself in a whisper, "He didn't know how to treat it, so he doesn't deserve to keep it."

Still smirking, amused by what he thought was a joke, the amused look on his face melted away when he saw the dead serious look in Melody's eyes. "So you really are serious?" he asked, very surprised by this. "I knew your granny had money, but I never expected her to leave it to you guys. That's impressive. And while I would be just fine helping you out, do you really think your family would be happy with you "marrying" me? I'm not exactly the type of guy a woman would be proud to bring home to their parents," Cecil said with a shrug. He liked the idea of making some money out of this plan, but he had to wonder if it would really work or not.

"So you did take something?" Melody asked giving a disapproving look. Of course he had to be technical about it and make it seem like he hadn't done anything when he really did. He was acting so strange about it too, mumbling to himself and looking side to side. "What did you take from him then?" She asked with a raised eyebrow, he had now grabbed her interest. "And what will he do if you don't give it back. He's already given you a black eye. I really don't think he's messing around"

When he finally started taking things seriously she calmed down and gave a small nod "Yes, I'm completely serious" She confirmed. She placed her hands on the table folding them on top of eachother. " That's true, my parents would hate you" She said with smile thinking of how her mother would react to him. " But they don't need to know exactally what kind of guy you are. All you have to do is pretend to be a gentelman, if you think you can do that" She teased. In all honesty Cecil was not really the perfect guy for the job but he was all she had. He was her closet guy friend that she could even consider asking to do something like this for her.

"He'll probably drag me into an alley and beat me within an inch of my life," Cecil admitted with a flat expression, shrugging. "Only if I let him though. I will put up a fight, of course, because what I took from him is worth protecting." He drummed his fingers on the table, thinking for a moment. "If you're concerned about what I took though, I can take you to where I'm keeping it and show you what it is. Maybe then I'll be able to explain the situation a little better," he added. Melody was his close friend, so he knew he could trust her.

"Well, if all I have to do is pretend I could probably accomplish that," Cecil replied with a grin. "You know I'm pretty good at acting, not to brag or anything." He winked after his words, teasing her jokingly. "But are you really sure want me for the job? And are you absolutely sure you want to do this at all? You could always wait until you get married for real someday." Melody was a pretty girl, so he was sure she would find a nice guy someday. At least, Cecil hoped that the guy would be nice if didn't want a visit from his fists.

Melody frowned deeply hearing him "Jesus Cecil what did you take that is worth getting the crap beaten out of you?" She said her face scrunshing up with a worried look as she imagined him all cut up and bruised .She just didn't know what to do with him. "Yes take me to it and explain because honestly right not I don't understand how its worth keeping, whatever it is" She said running a hand through her hair. A second later she stood and straightened out her clothes before looking him, waiting for him to lead the way to what ever it was he was going to show her.

"Thank you, thank you, thank you!" She said once he had finally agreed "You have no idea how much this means to me" her gratfulness did not last long hearing him get all cocky she rolled her eyes "Oh yeah I'm sure" She said sarcastically. "Well I mean I don't have anyone else that would be willing to do this for me so yeah I'm sure." She answered the first person and sighed. " Look I'm positive I've already thought it all through I can't wait to get married becuase I'm out of money now. If I wait to get married its going to be to some guy my mother chose because she's going to control my life if I have to move home" She said as all her cheerfulness left her. She dreaded the idea of having to move back with her parents she was willing to do anything she could to advoid it. "Besides we're just going to get divorced afterwards its not like I'm stuck with you I can always get remarried IF I ever find someone" She said. Really she couldn't imagine marrying anyone for real, she couldn't even remember the last time she had an actual boyfirend. For the past year or two she had only been going on lame dates with guys her friends had set her up with, and they were all either assholes or weirds. Needless to say none of them ever got a second date.

"Well I think you'll agree with me after you see what it is," Cecil replied, touching the side of his own face and rubbing a hand over his black eye. "But for now, don't worry about it. It's my problem and I don't want to drag you into dealing with the members of that gang. This guy is upset over something really silly, and if I were him I would just drop it." He rolled his eyes. "But you know how people in gangs are. They never drop things. Oh well. Like I said, don't worry about it so much. You're my friend and I know it's your job to worry, but I can handle this," he said, trying to reassure her.

"Uh, you're welcome," the young man replied to her, rubbing the back of his head awkwardly when she seemed so happy about it. When Melody explained her reasons as to why she wanted to go with him, Cecil's eyes widened. "Your mother would really do that to you? She would just make you marry someone just to have control over your life? No offense to your mother, but that is just not cool at all." He folded his arms and huffed, trying to picture the situation. He knew that is own parents were controlling, but they had never suggested something like that to him.

Changing the mood to more of a joking one, Cecil smirked. "Actually, I'll agree under one condition. You want me to marry you? I think you should get down on one knee and propose to me. Well? Go on. I'm waiting. We have to do this right," he teased.

"Come one that's not fair you can't just hint at it and then not tell me what it is!" She argued slumping back into her chair her arms crossing over her chest as she blew some hair out of her face. "No, I don't know how gangs are. I have neither been in one nor have I ever gotten myself in trouble with one, like some people" She teased him a playful look on her face. "Are you sure you can handle this? becuse you always say that even when you can't and I really don't want to find out you died because you did something stupid" She told him with a frown as she thought about seeing his face on some news broadcast announcing he had died in some gang fight. Even though she had mostly been kidding it wasn't too far off from what could actually happen.

Her frown deepened when he was amazed at how riddiculous her mother could be. "Yes, she really would. You have no idea how crazy my mother is. She's been trying to control my life for as long as I can remember. She wants to turn me into my sister. Its actually kind of sickening" She said her face srunching up in disgust. "Oh, you don't have to tell me, I know it's not cool. She tired to pick my prom date for me one time. It was weird and uncomfortable. So now you see why I really need to do this." She said hoping he finally understood the sistuation clearly now.

"No Way!" She immediately said hearing his condition. There was no way she was going to get down on her knee and propose to him right now. "You're crazy if you think I'm really going to do that" She told him sticking her head up in the air.

"Hey now, I didn't just hint at it and plan not to tell you. Like I said, I will tell you what it is. I just think it would be a better idea if I showed you rather than told you about it here. You'll understand when you see. Just be patient, Mel," Cecil told his friend, a half smile on his face. "And I promise I really can handle this. That gang member was angry with me over something stupid. He made dumb threats, but he'll get over what he was upset about, trust me, it's not that big of a deal." He shrugged.

"As a guy who doesn't really get along with his own parents--especially his step-father--I actually do understand where you're coming from," said Cecil. Although, he didn't have much of a problem with his parents controlling his life so much as he had a problem with being abused. He was abused a lot less than he used to be, but the young man still cringed at the memories. "But if your mother really is that crazy, I think I'm afraid to meet her," he teased.

Cecil laughed at Melody's reaction. He knew she wouldn't like the idea which was why he wanted to tease her so much. "My heart is broken," he joked. "How am I supposed to say yes to your marriage idea now? I don't even get a proposal." He frowned and kept his arms folded, pretending to pout. He loved teasing her sometimes. Cecil knew she was his good friend and could always feel comfortable doing that.

"Ugh! fine, but when are you going to show me?" She asked sitting up a little straighter now. She really just wished he would tell her what he was talking about now, but it looked like she was just going to have to wait, whether she liked it or not. "You say that about everything" She complained rolling her eyes. "It's not that big of a deal" How many times had she heard that one before? "I still don't feel all the great about it, but if you say you can handle it I'll leave you alone." She said with a sigh. "Just promise to let me know if it starts to become more than you can handle ok?" She said trying feel like she had fulfilled her duty to watch out for him.

"Don't worry you'll be okay, just as long as you do what I tell you." She told him with a small smirk. "No but really, she's better with other people it's just her family she likes to control." She assured him, although she knew her mother was not going to be easy to deal with. It was going to take a lot of convincing to get her to warm up to Cecil. She just really hoped her mother wouldn't flat out hate him, if that happened it would make it near impossible for them to continue on with the plan.

Melody shook her head at him as he continued to tease her. "Oh hush, you'll get over it" She told him brushing it off."And it's too late now, you already said yes. You can't go back on your word now." She informed him with a smile as he pouted at her. "Anyway if we're going to do this we have some preparation to do" She said becoming serious. " Like we need to come up with a story so when people ask us questions about how we met, or how long we've been dating, we wont say different things. We should also probably practice acting like a couple a little so we won't be all weird and awkward when we get around my family." She explained

The young man rolled his eyes. Sometimes her worrying began to sound like a mother hen protecting a young one. But nevertheless, he knew it was because she cared about him so he didn't say anything negative. He only smiled and nodded. "I promise I'll let you know if it gets to be too much for me to handle, but I assure you it won't be. And don't be so impatient. I told you I'd show you what it is I'm talking about. In fact, I'll show you when we're done at this cafe, okay? I think you'll actually like it..." Cecil's soft side had come out and he was actually protecting something from the other gang member, something he didn't want hurt or abused.

Cecil folded his arms and raised an eyebrow. "I guess I'll be okay then, but it's the part where I have to "do what you tell me" that makes me uncomfortable. Does this involve avoiding my gang entirely?" he asked. He didn't think that would be possible. If he avoided them for too long, they'd think he was betraying them and then they'd come beat him up. He didn't really like the idea of that. "I'll try my best to impress your mother in every aspect I can, but I don't know if I'll be able to avoid those guys," he added with a shrug.

"Dang, well I could always break off the engagement if you're going to keep me prisoner to my word," he joked. "You'd better treat your fiance here with some respect." Cecil was entirely teasing her. He liked to joke around with her sometimes, knowing she wouldn't take him seriously because they were close friends. "But you're right about the practicing part. We should come up with a few details about our "relationship" and practice being a couple. Very well then..." He scooted his chair closer to her and wrapped an arm around her, giving her a flirty wink like he would to any girl he thought was attractive. "So hey, baby, come here often?" He felt a shiver run up his spine and pulled his arm away shortly after doing that. "Okay, that just felt weird to say. This pretend couple stuff will take some getting used to," he said with a laugh.

Melody leaned back in her chair and looked at him for a moment humming softly. She supposed she was just going have to leave him alone. Although the more his eye bruised the more worried she felt, but she had already promised to let him handle it on his own she couldn't go back on her word now. She forced herself to change her train of thought and went to trying to guess what he could have possibly taken."Hmm I'm not so sure... and we aren't really doing anything here other than talking, so can we go now?" She asked. She knew she was acting like an impatient child, but she was just anxious to see what was so important that is was worth getting beaten to a pulp for.

"Oh I promise you wont have to do anything to awful" She said with a wicked smile when he expressed his fear of having to do what she told him. Her smile then faded into a frown as he mentioned his gang "Well I think you should do that anyway, but I suppose you don't have to avoid them completely as long as my family doesn't find out" She said with a heavy sigh. She could only imagine the look on her parents' faces if they found out her 'husband-to-be' was in a gang.

Rolling her eyes she turned her face away from him only glancing back at him sideways as he contiuned to tease her. "Oh god. If I knew you were going to be like this I think I would have chosen someone else" She teased back. She tried her hardest to keep a straight face as she teased him but she couldn't help a hint of a smile from pulling at the corners of her mouth. However when he suddenly started scooting closer to her she turned back to look at him fully with a confused look. "What are you doing?Ce-" Her words were cut off her face changing to a horrified look as he placed his arm around her giving her that awful pickup line. "Never do that again!" She said moving slightly away as he took his arm off of her. He was right, this lovey dovey buissnes was going to be harder than she initially thought

Cecil studied the look on Melody's face, wondering how she would react to his words. Would she continue to press the matter? Or would she leave him be with the whole situation? Just as the young man suspected, she was eager as ever to find out what he was up to. He chuckled. "Are you sure you want to go see it now? I mean, we haven't even ordered anything to eat unless you ate before I got here. But sure, if you want to leave, we can go ahead and leave no. It's not a problem." He didn't really mind showing her his secret. He knew that she actually would like it.

Frowning, Cecil widened his eyes pretending he was horrified by Melody's words. "I really hope you're right. If your mother is the kind of woman who is impressed by stupid things like me running errands for her and cleaning the bathroom in her house, I'm about to be very worried." He watched her smile fade when his gang was mentioned. "Well I can't really avoid them completely or else they'll mark me a traitor and track me down to try and 'punish me,' but I will try to avoid them as much as I can around your parents. I promise." Cecil had a feeling if Melody's parents found about his whole gang deal, they'd break off their fake engagement faster than he could blink an eye.

"Never do that again? But I thought it was a pretty good attempt at flirting!" Cecil replied, laughing. "But oh god, it did sound a bit corny, didn't it? I think I'm a bit rusty with relationships. Maybe we should find someone to coach us." Now, Cecil had been joking when he mentioned the whole "coaching" idea, but the more he thought about it, the more he didn't see it as such a bad idea. Maybe they did need some help if they couldn't figure out how to be a believable pretend couple after a while.
