In an alternative world, There is the isolated country of Neve. Every time a baby is born there, a piece of their soul breaks up and becomes a baby dragon. The two are connected spiritually and emotionally. They could have completely different personalities but they are companions for life. They have magic abilities connected to the four elements, usually only one.
That is until our characters are born, a small girl named Aine (my character) and her (preferably male) dragon are born. They are able to preform magic with all four elements and they are very powerful as well. Dragons and their human are more powerful when close together so that this doubly so for them.
Ten years later, Aine and her dragon are orphanage and shunned from their society for their strange abilities. They are either feared or others are jealous of their powers.
At the same time, humans are being born without dragons and they are being born dead. The cause appears to be the fact that these babies are being born empty, without a soul. Somebody is stealing the souls and the king of Neve decide to send Aine and your character to figure out the cause.
They will be the first from their country to leave their little island country in hundreds of years.
On the other side of the world, the Lich King is stealing the souls of humans and dragons before they can be born and storing that magic away to defeat the kingdom of Neve to become the ultimate magical being.
