In a time during imperial China- For men of refinement, the theater was a venue of culture but also an erotic space. Patrons in particular focused their obsessions on the actors.The opera has been used as a means to lure young boys from decent families, then dressing them up as women and training them to sing. Initially, this was only a form of cultural gathering but over time it became a den of all manner of foulness. What many young, barely adult, boys thought of as a way to make quick money quickly turned into their own prison disguised as an art form.
