Humans - Humans are just humans. While they have no special abilities on their own, they are the only race that has no demonic origins.


Vampires - New vampires must drink blood once every few days, while older vampires can go for a month or two without blood. Vampires can walk in sunlight but are weaker than usual unless they are in darkness.


Magi - Humans are capable of using Street (Visual) Magic while Magi are the only race capable of using other magic.


Ibli - A single Ibli is called an Iblis. They are capable of manipulating fire without training and earth, water and wind with training.


Shifters - Shifters are capable of changing their shape into that of animals or bugs.


Clockworks - Intricate machine-like beings.. They do not need to consume food and must be fueled with electricity. Some have steam engines where their heart would normally be and do not require electricity because of it.


Avians - Regular humans aside from the fact that they are capable of sprouting wings near their shoulder blades. These wings can look like anything, from pure white wings to incredibly colourful wings.

Personality: Isabelle is brave and honest, though she has a bit of a superiority complex when it comes to the other races. Being the eldest of her generation in the Scarlet clan, she carries herself high and strong and tries her hardest to uphold her family's honor - When she embarrasses herself she shuns herself and treats herself terribly, doing things like starving herself or requesting punishment, until she can prove herself as worth caring about again.

Personality: Cerin is quick-witted, and intelligent. She has no family, save for a brother, whose whereabouts are currently unknown. Cerin is a drifter, and does whatever she deems necessary, to survive. She prefers to be alone, and only participates in social gatherings when absolutely necessary. She is a hopeless romantic, though lacks the social skills required to pursue any would-be love interests.


She is afflicted by a curse, known as The Rage, which triggers when she gives in to severe distress. As such, she's a very laid back person, more often than not, and rarely allows herself to express anger.

Weapon of Choice: A Falchion of high quality, left to her by her parents, at the time of their passing.

Equipment (Armor, Passive Equipment): A suit of light armor, specially crafter for her mother before her, accommodating for her Avian wings.


Special Abilities/Curses (Species Abilities count):


She can be described as a Paladin, or Holy Warrior of sorts, possessing the ability to imbue her weapon with Holy power, and call upon her god for assistance in combat.


The Rage (Curse) A curse passed down from her father to herself, The Rage is a hyper-manifestation of anger, brought on by emotional buildup. When not properly controlled, the mind is shrouded with a mist, completely restricting calculated thoughts, and only allowing subconscious/emotional actions to be processed. When triggered, The Cursed loses the ability to think rationally, and loses all sense of judgement. All bodily functions are redirected to endurance, and regeneration, allowing The Cursed to heal wounds (apart from wounds to the heart, and the mind) that would kill others, only moments after they are inflicted.


Pros: Extreme endurance, rapid-regeneration


Cons: Loss of conscious thought, recklessness.

Personality: Isaac was once shy, reserved and friendly - But that changed when he was sent to hunt a vampire. He killed the vampire, but it bit his neck beforehand - The bite could not be treated and he changed completely over a matter of days. He became ignorant to everyone around him and became completely independent, refusing help from everyone else, and developed a slight superiority complex. He left the Scarlet Clan's castle after a week, leaving two servants dead and his sister, Alexis Scarlet, killed.

Personality: Flynn is, to put it lightly, a bouncing ball of energy. He is incredibly happy nearly all the time and tries to encourage others to cheer up when they’re not. He has no self-restraint when it comes to talking and will both talk someone’s ear off and clearly express his opinions on things. His face is like an open book and it is easy to tell when he is sad or upset. He has a child-like stubbornness to him as well that has gotten him into trouble more than once.


Even while in human form he acts much like an animal would, highly curious and always ready to play. He can become attached to people easily and will do anything to protect them. However this also means that if someone betrays him he will be deeply hurt and confused.

Personality: Ivan is...reclusive. He hid in shame after releasing the evils hidden in the book, and has since developed a dual-personality. His old personality, which has been surfacing less and less frequently, is a quiet, kind, and thoughtful man. Just as much a scholar as a warrior, decisions in battle are made with carefully calculated precision and accuracy, whereas decisions made on the field are usually impulsive and random. His new personality, which is in part influenced by the Demon Circle outside, is heartless and cold. He cares not whom he hurts, as long as the ends are met in an acceptable result. With no lust for gold, and no reason to try and take over the land, he usually hides in the chamber where he first opened the book so many years ago, playing with magic.

Special Abilities/Curses (Species Abilities count): Ivan is immortal due to the book, and uses the book to cast magic as well. He gave himself the wings of an Avian, although they remain hidden, as he barely leaves the castle.

Appearance: (I'm sorry, I could find no photo that was right, I hope this works!) Farya has light brown hair that reaches down to her waist. It is naturally straight and soft, yet terribly damaged by her lack of care. Many strands have been scorched during training and actual battles because she refuses to tie her hair back. She has a simple, pretty face but it was never attractive as she always seems to wear of a look of indifference. Her eyes are dark blue that appear ash grey under certain light. Her nose and lips are small and unremarkable, but a long scar ruins the glow of her skin. It runs from one ear and down her neck. She normally keeps it hidden with her hair. She's not tall but she has a lean, tan compact body that shows the length of her training.

Personality: Farya is a girl who is hard to pin down. She values her freedom and independence above all else. She isn't generally reliable about the little things and honor means nothing to her. In her eyes, she has to look after number one, because no one else will. Yet for all her flighty tendencies, she's good at staying unnoticed. She's good at listening in on conversations and storing useful information for later dates. Her expressions are hard to decipher as she generally looks neutral yet she loves reading other people. Farya loves riddles and mind games and because of that, she's drawn to the quiet and the reclusive as they're such an enigma to her. She quick to laugh and quick to sober up.

She also likes to play with air, mostly to play tricks on unsuspecting passer-bys yet she also finds it useful in battle

Personality:


Generally grumpy and vulgar; Ireland sees no reason to try and befriend anyone since her life has one goal and that goal is not to collect friends. Her line of work is so dangerous she also believes that even if she did meet someone by some miracle that she related to her life would eventually lead to their destruction and she doesn't need that weight on her conscience.


However, she is perfectly capable of being cordial with most people she comes across as her job also requires her to be able to gain information from everyone from the occasional passerby to Kings and Queens. Her Sense alone will not bring her straight to the item and no matter how sensitive it may be, it will also not inform her what manner of item she is about to encounter. This being said a large part of her time is spent investigating happenings around the area; specifically strange events that cant be explained or a person's sudden rise/ fall from power or a radical change in behavior.


The “Sense” that her people have alert them to magical items; depending on the Handler's strength they may sense items from incredibly far distances or not until they are in closer vicinity to them. As far as she knows; Ireland is the strongest Handler in the field at this point and her Sense is so strong that it can render her useless especially if the item is a powerful one. To cope with the symptoms of her Sense which usually include, but are not limited to:


- Nausea


- Intense migraines


- Vertigo


- Stench of rotting meat


- Muscle spasms and soreness


Ireland us commonly seen with a rolled cigarette hanging from the side of her mouth; the plant inside is one that is native to her village and smoked only by Handlers. The plant; when dried can be smoked much like tobacco although it has a more earthy, spiciness to its scent. It lends relief to a Handler by making the person “high” in the same way that a marijuana plant would in addition to masking the symptoms of their Sense.


It is not ideal to function while completely stoned off this plant, but for Handlers with a very strong Sense it is essential to remain functional and most develop a tolerance that keeps them in an appropriate mindset.

A list of Ireland's current inventory and an overview of their magical abilities.


Coin of Desaltar: Named for the magician who forged it; this coin when wished upon has the power to grant any wish. However, imbedded within are the bones of a wicked and wealthy King who oppressed his people until the magician decided to end his life.


Living in an age of despair and famine; Desaltar wished to give everyone equal standing in this world but the King's angry spirit corrupt any wish made upon the coin. Should the wisher be able to endure whatever twist their wish takes the coin with simply take their life ten years later.


Brush of the Creator: Imbued with a life spell thanks to a lonely wizard who enjoyed art and wished only to have some company in his secluded life; the brush brings to life anything that it paints.


This includes things that aren’t even real and the paintings obey their creator which the wizard soon found out and used to extract revenge on his old enemies.


Mirror of Truth: Created by a witch who thought her husband unfaithful; this mirror shows any truth past, or present, but a truth asked in the future is only a speculation created through what the mirror sees and what the wisher is afraid of/ wants to see.


This item was brought to Ireland's attention because of the large amount of people being driven mad by the truths they sought especially ones involving the future. This eventually lead to a great many murders and imprisonments.


Criss Cross: Belonging to a piously powerful and religious man; the cross was commissioned by a priest who wished to show mankind the true power of God. The man who forged the cross was a dark artisan so the cross did what it was intended to do which was to take the client's physical ailments away and grant life, but for one person to live where they shouldn't have another had to forfeit their life. This effect was usually an immediate area type deal and the priest eventually lost his own life in the middle of a healing. Luckily Ireland was in the crowd watching the healing and took control of the cross before it fell into another's hands.


Lover's Journal: A powerful love spell is woven into its pages; it has the ability to make anyone fall in love with the writer. All one need do is write the intended's name with their face in mind and the target will then lose all former self in their devotion.


The maker of this book was a wizard who harbored unrequited love for a prostitute at a local whore house; aghast at the woman's loss of all traces of her personality the man eventually murdered her and committed suicide.


Glimmer of Greed: A stone found deep in the mines of a dwarf village the precious dark green stone overtook any who saw it with an insatiable love for the jewel. The King of the dwarves in that town had lost his soul to the Glimmer of Greed; he spent all day everyday gloating over the stone, polishing it, sitting hunched over at his desk stroking it.


He stopped eating or sleeping and after a few weeks he died of dehydration and sleep deprivation. The stone then fell into the hands of his wife and then her two children and after their deaths into the hands of the royal guard and down through the throngs of soldiers.


When Ireland arrived at the town all but a few were left, the victim's dead bodies laid strewn about the town for the stone had taken one captive after another so fast that there wasn't a single soul free from it's grasp to take care of the dead.


The Backpack: Standard issue when a Handler is sent off on their journey, the pack is leather an appears as nothing special, but it is blessed with a spell that makes it able to hold a great many things without becoming full or getting too heavy. Trinkets are among the most common that a Handler comes across and as such they need a place to carry them.


Journal: As afore mentioned; this is the only thing that will remain after a Handler's demise; inside is recorded her entire life and a list of items that she carried with her. Also used for communication between Handlers, the journal is their only form of contact. Upon her death, the journal will signal to the nearest Handler as only a Handler has the power to pick it up. It will than make its way back home where it joins the archives.


Demon Sword of the Parasite: A great broad sword with a deep purple jewel at the end of its hilt and contained in a black scabbard with silver embellishments on both ends it is a handsome and intimidating sword. This attractive design is not by accident; the demon sword smith who made the Sword of the Parasite forged it so that his half brother might have something to reside within.


Being a parasite demon, he could not survive without a consistent host and no one was willing to openly welcome a tentacled parasite into their bodies and so he hid him within the blade so that any user would find themselves completely meshed with the demon.


When in the user's hand the sword extended long pink tentacles and sunk them in starting at the user's knuckles and then back out at the break of their wrist where it then wrapped its extensions around the length of the person's arm all the way up to their shoulder. After its secure attachment was reached not only was the sword unable to be put down, but it also assimilated all of the victim's internal organs and they became a vessel for the demon.


The only way to separate the sword from the vessel was to cut the arm completely off and severe the tentacles as the possessed would no longer perish from mortal wounds.


The Spiral Sword: The origins of this sword are completely unknown and it is the most powerful weapon that Ireland has in her inventory. She chased the sword for months because every time she got close to it the sword's aura was so powerful that it rendered her unconscious or it somehow escaped her capture. She believes that there are spirits contained within the sword and a great many at that from many different origins. Demons, humans, and those devoted to God; their souls are continuously at war with one another and as such it requires a great amount of energy to maintain her bond with the weapon.


Its blade is an unusual gold colour; the hilt is wrapped in thick brown leather and it does not have a scabbard thanks to its bizarre dimensions. The length of the blade is completely corkscrewed; the space between each spiral wide enough for a person's shoulder to fit. The blade was not meant to cut, but to gouge and hack away at enemies.


When she finally captured the Spiral Sword for herself; Ireland spent two weeks inside a cave in a mountain rage. It took all her will power and magic to gain control of the sword, even now if she is not careful she can feel its evil rising within her.


Fancy Lady's Knife: Once belonging to a fancy lady at a whorehouse, the blade can be folded in on its self and hidden between one's breasts.


The woman had used it as protection from clients who grew too aggressive as the owner of the business didn't allow the men to abuse his girls and let them carry forms of defense.


Unfortunately someone finally got the better of her and slew her with her own knife; the poor woman's soul now resides in the one thing that gave her comfort in life. Her soul stirs when brutal men are about ; despite its size the weapon is formidable and one of Ireland's personal favorites.


Demon Slayer's Arm: A blade that attaches to the user's lower arm and affixed around the wrist,it lays flush against the arm and is easily detachable for quick use.


Forged in a village of demon slayers the blade is made from demon bones and bathed in the creature's blood. It harbors a hatred for humanity, but is the most efficient weapon for slaying creature's of the night.


The Brook Horse: Aside from the Spiral Sword the Brook Horse is Ireland's greatest achievement. It is unusual for Handlers to capture the magic of an animal, but she has managed it.


She had actually come across the beast by accident; it had been grazing peacefully by a stream the day she happened across it.


Her sense had been coming in full force all day and she had gone for a walk in nearby woods to try and gain some relief; whatever it was felt like nothing she had ever felt before and even her smoking could not relieve her misery.


The beautiful white horse had immediately looked up, snorting and stamping its hooves at the sight of her. Her head exploded with pain and she finally understood that this animal was her mark; undaunted by the unlikelihood of catching a creature she threw herself at the beast.


She still wasn’t sure how, perhaps her Sense communicating to her something she intrinsically knew, but she leapt on top of the massive white horse who took to bucking and rearing.


When it didn’t throw her the beast jumped into the nearby river and began to swim for the bottom; Ireland soon realized that she was physically incapable of removing herself from the creature's back which had now turned sticky and was absorbing her starting with her thighs.


In all her studies she had never come across a Brook Horse in a final attempt to save her life she groped for the horse's bridle and with all her might she wrenched it off it's face.


At once the animal became buoyant and returned to the surface and with that she understood the nature of the magic. She had complete control over him so long as she always kept the bridle with her when they were apart.


At the expense of a few unfortunate villagers Ireland soon learned that the Brook Horse was carnivorous and had to be kept on a tight rein and close watch when brought into a crowded town.


She could see in the horse's glittering evil eyes that it fancied one day being able to eat her alive for imprisoning it.


Special Abilities/Curses (Species Abilities count):


The magic that the woman of Kern posses is different from that of typical magic; they are not able to call it forth and manifest it in the physical plane. The only way that it can be used offensively is if the Handler has in her inventory a weapon of power.


That being said the manner in which they gain control over anything they are hunting is to expose themselves to the nature of the magic they are attempting to over come. They must first take the unique flow of it into themselves and understand how it works before they have any hope of capturing it; the way that they acquaint themselves with their potential new charge is to allow the weapon to injure them and if it be a trinket then they must hold it and allow the magic that is intended to influence to influence them.


This can be very dangerous if the Handler is mentally and physically weaker than their target; they can be lost just as easily as anyone else if they do not proceed with caution. Should a Handler come across something that is greater than themselves then they send a message to the nearest Handler to try it for themselves.


Handlers almost never cross one another in the field as it is too dangerous to have so many powerfully magical things so close to one another it makes the flow of magic that the woman use to keep their prizes in check dangerously unstable.


Each Handler has a small leather bound book that they use to communicate to all others in the field. Once written in the text will show up in every other book that is connected to a Handler; you may also send personal messages by first stating the name of the person you wish to reach.


Once they understand the nature of the magic then they can do about figuring out how to bring the magic into their own bodies and calm it to an acceptable level.


Unfortunately, that isn't the end of a Handler's battle with the captured magic; for the rest of their lives they must maintain a constant flow of their own magic to keep the item in check. The more powerful the thing, the greater amount of energy and magic it takes to keep it dormant; the plus side is that they are able to use it for their own purposes now.


To aid in their struggles it is not uncommon for Handlers to have graces, demonic possession protection symbols and other holy signs carved and tattooed into their skin. This helps to keep them anchored and less likely to be corrupted themselves and allow them to continue collecting as long as possible.


A corrupted Handler is a great danger to everyone; while it doesn't happen often, when it does it is only another Handler that can put an end to them.


Every Handler meets the same fate; one day they will take on one too many items and the combined magic from everything she is carrying with devour her in a massive explosion erasing her and everthing she had been carrying with her.


In this way they are still able to complete the original task set upon them by their ancestor wizards; to eliminate dangerous magic from the world.


Before a Handler meets her fate she is to record her entire life and everything she has captured in her leather book so that a scribe back at Kern can write down her legacy to honor her and to pass her experiences on to future generations.


A Handler maintains her flow of magic and control over her charges by always having tactile contact with them, if for any reason she is not touching them, the magic is unleashed and she has to capture them again.

Weaknesses (Combat or otherwise): Depending on her surroundings it can be easy for her Sense to over come her due to her unusual sensitivity to all things magic. In extreme cases this can lead to her losing control of any of her items in her inventory or becoming physically incapacitated by her Sense's symptoms.


Due to the fact that she has to expose herself to the attack of an item this can easily turn into a very bad situation for her.
