He nods and gets up, forcing himself out of the room, "Actually getting some sleep would be great, and I'll be right back. " he leaves and is gone for several minutes. Finally returning he sits looking slightly unsettled.

She sets a bowl in front of him, sitting in the same spot across from him again. "How'd it go?" She asks quietly, frowning lightly at the look on his face.

"My mother will visit on the next parents day." he toys with his food, eating slowly, "Very good, it's awesome Alice." he compliments softly. "She's...bringing my little sister." he sighs and eats faster, not wanting to talk.

"Hmm," she responded neutrally, letting him eat in silence. She could sense he needed some time to think on this. Idly, she played with her hair and wondered if her dad would bother to show up for parents day this time. Probably not likely, but she preferred it that way. When he was finished she silently stood and started putting things away, wiping down the counter top. "What's your sister's name?" She asked, figuring that was a safe enough question.

"I didn't ask." he watches her, his hands folded before him, "I must be a horrible person not to ask.' he lays his head down, looking tired. "When she said it, it felt like I couldn't breath, I just hung up as fast as I could. "

Alice cursed under her breath, walking back over to him and patting his head gently. "Do you wanna try to go get some sleep?" She muttered, kissing his earlobe for a moment before sitting next to him again. "Sometimes it's easier to just forget about things for a while... and then deal with them later," she said quietly, looking down at her hands.

He looks at her and nudges her, "Yeah, sleep sounds fantastic right now." he smiles a bit and kisses her cheek. " I just need to find a way to actually get there." he hums, "maybe you could hit me over the head."

"I couldn't do that," she sighs, shaking her head. "Does anything in particular make you sleepy?" she asked slowly, thinking. "We could make a pillow fort," she chuckled teasingly.

He tilts his head before nodding and grabbing her hand. "My grandmother used to lay in my bed with me to help me sleep." he tugs Alice to his room, the inside dark and plain. "I promise I won't cop a feel." he swears, sitting on the edge of his bed.

She rolls her eyes, scooting to the exact center of his bed and holding her arms out to him. "I wasn't worried about that," she said, her voice amused. "C'mere and get some sleep."

Lacey smiles and lays down, fluffing his pillows a bit, "Thank you Alice." he tries relaxing and takes deep breaths, ignoring the shadows he imagines splaying over the walls.

"My pleasure," she says, watching him closely. Frowning, she presses her hand against his chest to feel his heart rate. Humming softly in the back of her throat, she grabs his hand, squeezing it lightly.

He twins his fingers with hers and nuzzles against her neck, "Thank you." he says it again because he doesn't think she knows just how much having her there is helping him. With a last soft kiss to her neck, he finally relaxes settling into a light sleep.

Alice grinned victoriously as his breathing slowed down, finally sleeping. Scooting closer against his chest, she closed her eyes slowly and drifted off herself.

Ally laughed laying on top of him listening to his heart beat." Hey I obviously exceed " she said pointing to the lump in his pants.

By morning Lacey slips from his bed and returns downstairs, sneaking down back down to the pool, sitting and thinking for what seems like hours before he decides to swim and let go of his thoughts for a while.

Alice stretched as she sat up, looking around in sleepy confusion before realizing she wasn't in her own bed. Figuring Lacey was probably eating or something, she walks to her room and grabs a book, settling in a chair for a long read.

A couple hours later Lacey comes back up to the house, his hair still wet and dampening his shirt. He makes his way up stairs and knocks on Alices' door.

Alice tosses the book onto her bed, opening the door and then holding it open so he can come in. "Hi," she greets him simply, flipping on a light switch. Her room has dark walls like his, but nearly every piece of her furniture is a pale yellow.

"Yo. You slept late...or maybe I woke up early." He informs her sliding to the ground beside her bed. Resting his arms on his knees. His baggy shorts rustle as he settles. "I went swimming. Then walking. Then running. I found the highway.

"I slept late," she said, smiling faintly. Parents day was only in a few days, he'd needed some time to think. She wondered if he felt any better about it. "Explains the wet hair," she commented distractedly, thinking about the highway. If she found it, she could potentially keep going until she was home. Surprise her father. A little smirk came across her face as she pictured that.

"It wouldn't be nice you know." He comments, scrubbing a rust colored mark on the shorts. "I ran so long I couldn't breath. It actually felt nice, not being able to breath."

"What wouldn't be nice?" She asks in confusion, sitting beside him. Her face becomes pained as he talks about his run, her eyebrows pulling together- her worried look. "Lace," she sighs, patting his knee. "You're not allowed to stop breathing anytime soon, 'kay? I..." She trails off, not sure how to word what she's thinking.

"It wouldn't be nice...to visit your father without me. I would have nothing to do." He says is with all seriousness. Knowing what someone was thinking was easy, which was odd since he couldn't follow his own train of thought most of the time. "I won't stop breathing. I promise. I'm not ready for it. Not yet, before I came here I thought I was...but I'm not yet."

She should have been used to him reading her like an open book, but it still shocked her every time. Her blue eyes widened slightly, biting her lip as she imagined taking Lacey to see her father... that would probably not be the most pleasant meeting. She winced, pushing the thought out of her mind. "What made you change your mind?" She asked softly.
