He sighs, seeming to deflate. "I didn't sleep at all." he slumps a bit resting his forhead on her shoulder. "Why is that I wonder." he falls silent, his breathing soft and warm.

She runs her fingers through his hair soothingly. "I could tell you hadn't," she says, her tone thick with worry. "I guess it's easier to be dead tired than deal with the night terrors, huh?"

"They look like my mom...they always have...the monsters even sound like her." he whispers the words, hating the weak feeling he gets as they movies plays in the background.

She wound her arms around him, her long hair hiding her expression. "I'm sorry," she said simply, continuing to play with his hair absent-mindedly. Her blue eyes were dark and downcast, her mouth set in an angry frown. She doesn't even know his mother, but she wanted to throw something at her for making him feel this way.

Lacey sighs softly once more and nuzzles closer to her, "The scar on my hand, she gave it to me. She told me not to go outside; outside is my favorite place. She was so mad." he laughs softly, "It didn't hurt, not really. My grandmother hated her for it." Lacey hums a bit thinking, "She was a good mom, she tucked me in, and read me stories. She bandaged me up and made ice cream cake for my birthday, every year. She was good..." he pauses for a moment, "it just seemed like sometimes, she forgot how to be."

"Oh, Lace," she sighs, shaking her head slowly. She understood him completely; her father was that same exact way. When her mother was still alive he'd been the ideal dad. But then she'd died and he became cold and distant. "It'll be okay," she soothed, stroking her fingertips across his cheekbone.

He pulls back a fraction and looks at her, his eyes are dark and for a moment very lonley, "Sorry, I get too full sometimes." he is embarrassed, unused to showing so much emotion to someone that is not his cousin.

"No, no, it's okay," she assures him quickly. "You... you've been having a hard time. I'll listen anytime you wanna talk, 'kay?" She smiles lightly, lowering her eyes from his. He looks so sad, and she has a sinking feeling she isn't helping him much.

He smiles and kisses her cheek, "You are helping me fine Alice. You're a wonderful..friend...person." he shrugs, not really sure what he wishes to call her anymore. "You're the best listener I've met."

Color creeps into her face, the blush turning her normally pale skin pink. Tracing tiny circle on her ankle-bone with her fingertip, she mutters her reply quietly. "Uh, thanks," she stammers, flexing her injured hand.

Lacey leans closer, inspection the color on her face with a small teasing smile, "You're looking a bit red dear Alice." he finds he likes the color almost as much as he likes teasing her about it.

She scowls and crosses her arms, raising an eyebrow at him. Biting her lip, she shrugs. "I have no idea what you're talking about," she says, squaring her shoulders and meeting his eyes. "Least you didn't leave me like last time," she huffs, raising her hand to her cheek and letting it drop quickly.

"I'll never leave you pining again, if you don't want me to." he assures her, patting her hand gently, "I understand the horrificness of pining for something you want."

"But that'll ruin the plan, won't it? I'm supposed to pine and you won't answer my calls," she answers him seriously, leaning back against the couch. "The side-kick handles the horrificness while the hero is... like, being a hero and stuff."

"Being a hero is so over-rated." he shrugs and leans back, pulling another apple from his pocket, "I'm not really the hero type...can't I just be the awkward boy who wants to kiss the girl who is out of his league?" he bites the apple, crunching slightly, "It seems much easier."

She shrugs. "You probably get to choose, since it's your life. I'm still holding out for that guy who plays with fire and wax in the forest, myself." Nudging her elbow lightly into his rib, she sighs dreamily.

He nods as if in understanding, "I personally like a girl who sets fires but so far no one fits the bill." Lacey sighs, very dramatic in his preformance, "If only."

Immediately she pulls about seven lighters out of her pocket, shoving all but one away and flicking it, the flame bright in the dark room. "If... only," she agrees, pressing her fingertip to the fire for the briefest second before returning it back to her pocket with the others, flashing him a wide smile.

He laughs and nudges her, "You know I don't think you will ever find the guy you're looking for." he says it sadly, as if sorry for her bad luck. "it just doesn't seem realistic, I mean who actually goes out and plays with wax?"

"I'm just as likely to find him as you are to find the fire-starting girl," she retorted. "And when I DO find him, I know exactly what I'm gonna do. I have to question your taste, though. She seems like a pretty destructive sort of person."

"Don't judge my taste just because you can never be my sort of woman." he scoffs and flicks his foot at her, "And what exactly will you do when you find this waxy deviant?"

"Oh, easy," she says confidently, an arrogant smirk on her face. "I'll seduce him with my flawless personality and incredible good looks. Then we'll probably go spy on people together." She flips her hair out of her eyes, giving him a satisfied grin.

Lacey frowns and clicks his tongue at her, " You really must stop this dear. You can't just go around seducing people like this. First me, now some waxy boy who doesn't know what is coming for him. " He shakes his head, "You really are a devil woman."

She leaned toward him, resting her forearm on his stomach and batting her thick eyelashes at him. "You never mentioned that I successfully seduced you, Lacey," she pointed out mischievously, looking pleased with herself. "I guess I'm just that good, huh?"

He grunts softly, rolling his eyes and tossing up his arms with a huff, "Like you didn't know, you my dear are a deviant vixen and you know it." he grabs his heart ," I didn't stand a chance."
