Drop And Give Me Twenty!

Derek Wolff

Writing One Day At A Time
Roleplay between myself and LittleFryRice

Two cadets going through basic training when the base gets attacked. Are they ready?

It was the first day of summer. She could definitely tell, the blazing heat that was beating down on her, that sweat that was forming on her neck making her hair stick to it. It could definitely be her imagination as it probably was always this hot and today was just getting the best of her. After all, today was the first day she was at the military base.

Jax looked around just to see the people getting just as sweating as she was. The people were there for same reason she was, they were going to go through basic training. She seemed nervous about the whole ordeal, but being excited for such a challenge had pushed the feeling away. She wondered what everybody else was feeling. She studied each person's face, hoping not catch anyone's eye in this process.

(Sorry about the long wait, potluck one day, interview the next. I should be free now!)

Derek was the type of guy in high school to always be at the gym, well, when he wasn't partying. It wasn't for the looks or trying to get bulky. He just wanted to be fit. And he was pretty sure he wanted to join the army, so he got a jump start on it. He had done MMA as well, which helped keep him in shape. But now, standing here waiting for basic to start, he felt he wasn't ready. Man, he should not have gone to so many parties. But that's in the past, focus on the now.

He bounced on the balls of his feet a little from nerves as he looked around. Everyone, like himself, were already drenched in sweat. No surprise there, it was hot as hell. How could this be safe with all the exercise they were about to do? Well...they were deployed to hot places, and there they would have their gear on. He spotted one woman looking around, just as nervous as the rest but she showed it a little more. He walks over and offers a soft smile.

"Hi, I'm Derek."

"Oh, hey. I'm Jaxton, but please call me Jax." She returned the smile. She didn't expect to have someone come up to her and start talking. She was bound to talk to them sometime sooner or later, whether it be here or later on on the battlefield. "What brings you over here?" She stuffed her hands into her pants pockets, raising a eyebrow at him.

He shrugs a little "Just wanted to meet some of my fellow boot campers." He smiles softly "So, what brings you out here? What made you want to join?"

"Just continuing the Pierce family legacy." She shrugs. She was proud of the family name that she carried with her. Her father had put her through rigorous amounts of training, her older siblings putting her through some hardships whenever they were home from being deployed. All of them having high ranks. "What made you join?"

"Just wanted to do something with my life and wanted to go out and protect and serve. Always been interested in the military so" He smiles and shrugs.

"Hmm.. Sounds reasonable. Majority of the people join for the same reason." She glanced to the side noticing a few of the officers were getting ready to speak up. "Well, I hope you're ready for one helluva ride. Not too nervous are you?"

He laughs softly and shakes his head "Nah, I'm ready. Good luck." He smiles and turns to look at the officers. There's a long speech about the honor of being in the army and so on. The rest of the day is spent in what they call the pig pen. Basically just a big thing of mud with huge logs in it. Everyone lines up beside a log, five people to one. They have to lift the log, put it down, do push-up, roll around in the mud, run around the area and so on, just getting worked to exhaustion.
