Feels like a bit of an imposition on my part to effectively reserve two slots,so I can take on either depending on what else gets accepted. Assuming I get accepted too, that is.

Fantasy character: From a typical fantasy world inhabited by various races, this character would be a powerful theurge and a high-ranking follower of the world's Goddess of Justice. She would have been chosen to join the party of a hero prophesized to defeat an ancient evil that had returned by virtue of her mastery of destructive elemental magic and holy protection. Their journey proceeds and appears like it could be successful, but on the eve of the final battle, the hero is betrayed and almost killed by an ally who is a mole from the dark lord, saved by the theurge taking the killing blow. She has a somewhat distant, intellectual personality and is a competent tactician in battle, but now contends with the guilt of her ability to spot the traitor.

Sci-fi character: From a high-tech city ruled by corporations in a world increasingly affected by pollution and resource depletion. A private security/investigation contractor augmented with cybernetic limbs and advanced senses (and with bioware that gives dog ears and tail). Always carries an arsenal of firepower on the job as well. Died on a routine mission, possibly assassinated by a business competitor. Has a compassionate personality (as much as it is possible in that world) and is as loyal as a hound, enjoys taking the initiative in tense situations and solving problems with big booms.

Sci-fi character: Hailing from a dystopian world in which mega corporations are what run the world. She was a CEO of one of those corpos, and lived by the philosophy that "If you want something done right, you've gotta do it yourself". She's stoic, rarely letting anyone see past her stone cold face, but past the mask, she is surprisingly kind, and a woman of her word, at least to those she considers her allies. Those who she considers her enemy are met with a relentless machine, that will stop at nothing to annihilate them.

An angel in a trash heap—that was what the people banished to Mahler-β called the young girl who shielded their homes from the hot metal debris raining down from doomed skies. Existing upon the fringes of the Empire, their planet was nothing more than a graveyard for mechs that fell during engagements with invaders in their small corner of the galaxy. Too poor to move to a safer planet and lacking the technological advancements to defend their own skies, the people prayed within their destitute land that everything would simply end one day. That was the kind of life the average refugee holed up in the sole habitable town of Mahler-β lived.

"Don't cry. Cover your ears and count to five. Then, all the scary things will be gone!"

Riding within a white mech modeled after an extinct species from Earth she'd read about in a book she'd found discarded in a wrecked cabin, the young girl worked tirelessly to improve the living conditions of her homeland. Though a humble craft created from scraps she'd found lying around that couldn't be compared to the titans the Empire deployed, she managed to fit the mech she named T.O.D. with the equipment necessary to rebuild homes or deploy energy shields to prevent further damage. Children, stowaways, and even an enemy of the Empire, no matter who it was, she came to their aid with a kind smile drawn upon her face.

However, no good deed goes unpunished. As she laid upon the burning ground, bleeding out from the gaping hole in her abdomen, she couldn't help but think...

Modern Setting: After three consecutive tours of duty, the soldier was honorably discharged, returning home with the laurels and praises of his battle buddies. However, his service did not leave him unchanged; craggy, distant, addicted. The soldier did not return to civilian life gracefully, spiraling immediately to the bottom of a bottle. Maladjusted as he was, the soldier loitered, camped, and survived on the scraps of strangers. Despite the squalid conditions, the soldier hadn't despaired, it rendered him separate and safe, nobody would bother with a vagrant like him now. But one day, during his tiresome evening of drinking, he heard a commotion in the rank, darkened alleyway. A woman's scream. Almost by instinct, the soldier rushed down the block, bottle in hand. Turning the corner, he found a mugger, hand clutching a knife. No hesitation. He charged. And he won, bleeding his guts out, surrounded by filth and trash. One last time, he served.

Wuxia character:
The Jianghu is a dangerous world, torn by the struggle for power between the orthodox and unorthodox sects. For the most part, only those ambitious or foolish enough are willing to submerge themselves within it. This character falls somwhere between both categories. Filled with the desire to be like the righteous xia of legend, he enters the first orthodox sect he can find willing to accept him as an outer disciple and devotes himself to their path. An assault by one of the most powerful cults destroys the sect, sending him and the other disciples fleeing to their allies. Safely harbored by a new sect, his world returns to normalcy and he continues with his training, building upon his internal force and saber techninques. Shortly after becoming an inner disciple, an internal conflict leads to the downfall of his sect again, and once more he leaves to search for a new place. Rinse and repeat, this happens over and over with this character just narrowly avoiding death with every crumbling mountain and temple.

Eventually, they do make a name for themselves in the Jianghu - not as a heroic champion fighting injustice (as he so desired) but as a herald of doom, with destruction following in his shadow. Despite this, he remains largely oblivious to both his reputation and the propensity for his surroundings to fall apart at the drop of a hat, attributing it to the standard instability of the martial world. Instead, he wanders the land, wielding his saber to cut down bandits and vagabonds and evil cultists with contempt. Obsessed with chivalry and righteousness, he abides by a strict code of honor that demands he leave no (percieved) evil unopposed. And make no mistake, in his eyes, all people are either good or evil, never in-between, and all that is evil should be eradicated without exception. Unfortunately, the zealotry that dictates his actions outclasses both his prodigious skill with the blade and the strength of his internal force. In the end only the strongest have the right to survive in the Jianghu. He simply failed to become one of them.

Fantasy Character

"We are a band of misfits... who don't belong in any puzzle set, yet we complete each other's pieces."

Kyu was born as a dragonkin with the inability to transform into her true draconic form. Though still retaining a potent natural affinity for fire magic, along with the rest of draconic prowess, she would always be... a disgrace, a shame, the cursed one. Exiled by her own kin, Kyu found solace in the embrace of a newfound family, a diverse group of individuals who shared the same fate, whom she proudly called as her own. She assumed the role of the nurturing mother, radiating maturity and warmth, always ready to provide shelter from stormy days. But no mother came with perfection, beneath her caring exterior lurked a tendency towards overprotectiveness and occasional bouts of moodiness. Their unique traveling band soon caught the attention of “Hand of Light” who then enticed them with sweet promises that spoke to their deepest desires. Seduced by the allure of these pledges, they agreed to join his cause. Promises are promises and as they say... are meant to be broken. Nothing was given without a price. With her blood spilled and the last flicker of light faded from her eyes, she could only lament the loss of the happiness she once knew, yearning for the simpler days now forever out of reach.

Modern Character // M. G. Summers

If man’s desire for wisdom was the original sin, then he must be the bearer of the forbidden fruit.

It was a world fresh off the viciousness of war, victory assured at the cost of weapons advanced far past the development of medicine. Veterans and civilians rotted in the cities, betrayed by their own bodies as the slow killer—radiation sickness—set in. The people had been unlucky enough to witness a nuclear war, lucky enough for their world to survive it, and something in between that they avoided severe poisoning but not the traces of it.

He grew up in the aftermath, watching as hair fell off of the middle-aged and cancer ravaged the city streets, indiscrimination in its cruelty. To combat their symptoms, some turned toward opioids, preferring to risk addiction instead of suffering the pain. So when he, a chemist, stumbled across the first possibility, he couldn’t help back take it.

A drug that could relieve pain through a different binding mechanism, allowing it to avoid triggering the endorphins associated with addiction. Nirodha—a little slice of nothing, a little slice of heaven. (But was that why it mattered, or was it the wealth? If he succeeded, he never would have had to want for anything again.)

But things weren’t meant to be. An accident caused Nirodha to spread through the streets before the end of testing. With its initial success, it became pervasive, and then the side effects hit. After long-term use, the drug would destroy the very pathways that it sought to suppress; panic spread, and with it came the realization of its hellish. It was damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

In the aftermath, Morgan vanished, questions of guilt hot on his heels. For years, he would hide his identity and try to make light of the dark, if not by righting his wrongs, then at least by improving what he could. When that guided him into the path of a bullet, he knew it was deserved. But damn, if he didn’t wish he had the chance to fix what broke—to prove that the world wouldn’t have been better if he’d just never existed.

Wuxia Character
Beauty comes in all sorts of forms. Even in forms we can't perceive.

A world that's been thoroughly split in two. With half of the world being occupied by unorthodox sects and their followers and the other occupied by orthodox sects and their followers. And while things between the two halves have been amicable at best thanks to the internal struggles happening between the two territories. However, with the assassinations happening on both sides, this barely amicable tolerance of each other had begun to crumble.

He's from a small village located on the border between these two territories. Before war began breaking out, many small villages lived on the border to avoid being too involved with one side's affairs. Many of these villages were mixed and were indifferent about the affairs of each cult, but now that the fighting has started many of these villages have been wiped off the face of the earth. Whether it was intentional or not.

He was only a child when his village was burned to the ground. A child that's been blind since birth, he couldn't even run away properly at the time. He could hear the cries of others but he couldn't see the terrors that were happening. And maybe that was for the best. He was only able to survive thanks to the pity he received from a wandering stranger. Since that day he's come to call this wanderer his master who, through lots of patience, was able to turn this blind child into a strong martial artist. His other senses are heightened to an almost animalist degree along with excellent aura detection, which puts him on an equal playing field against those who are blessed with sight, with some even saying he isn't actually blind.

He and his master have no alliance. Simply wanderers who longed to see the world. Even if he could never actually see it. However, an ally of none is a potential enemy to all. It was an unfortunate case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Stumbling upon a recent massacre and unknowingly being used as a scapegoat by the true perpetrators led to him being accused of murders he didn't commit. Leading to a hunt for him that eventually takes his life.

Modern Character
The stage is a battlefield disguised as a beautiful show.

His entire life could be summed up as unpleasant at best and abhorrent at worst. Born into a low-income family that was barely holding itself together by the skin of its teeth. Not only did his parents work jobs that were barely able to support themselves, let alone a child, but they were also heavy alcoholics who seemed to be drunk more often than they were sober in order to drown out the sorrows of their lives. He pitied his parents but didn't sympathize with them. His parents were spineless and he hated how meek they were. If they at least tried they'd probably at least be able to do something! If they weren't going to do anything for themselves then they should just kneel over and die already!!

By the time he was in high school, he already had a set path his life was expected to go down. He formed and led a small gang that was quickly growing and rising to the top of the food chain in the city. He was a natural fighter who had been fighting for his own survival since he was a child. He was fine with being a gang leader his whole life. This is all he's known he never really saw another option for him.

However, one day he was approached by one of the new members of his gang and was begged to help their uncle with some sort of acting audition thing. He wasn't sure but apparently, this kid was rich and offered to pay a lot. And it didn't even matter if he got in or not they just needed an extra person to qualify. So he went through with it. He got all dressed and dolled up and almost attacked his reflection when he saw how he got pretty boy-ified. By some miracle, he passed more rounds than he or anyone was expecting. Minor roles turned into major roles and soon his popularity as a young and aspiring actor was growing rapidly.

At first, he hated this sudden change. Constantly living a double life of a violent thug and kind actor was tiring. But the dark side of show business soon bared his fangs at him and he was more than happy to bite back. If he knew this world was so thrilling and cutthroat, he would have joined earlier! However, this way of life was just as dangerous if not more dangerous than that of running a gang. Those who wished to ruin and hurt him lurked everywhere, and a kidnapping attempt soon turned into a deadly squabble for both himself and those who were against him. But that was expected for his life. To go down while fighting.
