  • PREMISE
Dearest suspect; what is it you were doing in this tragic palace?

Some had traveled many miles to step foot within these walls, while others were here from the start. The Usaginomiya Palace is a place that saw no shortage of life; from the bustling of busy servants to the rumblings of noble business, whichever you may have partaken in, you found yourself there, and you were there for a reason.

That reason, however, would no longer matter. On a fateful hour, when the sun had began its descent, disaster struck. Perhaps there was a delay for the commotion to reach you, or maybe you were among the first to bear witness; but sooner or later, you would learn of the King’s sudden demise. Everyone within the Palace was declared a potential suspect―his death appeared far from ordinary. Unnatural. Intentional.

… As such, no one was permitted to leave.

About a day went by of thorough investigation, and those in charge―they certainly work fast. Out of all of those who were in the palace, a mere sixteen individuals stood gathered in the underground chambers as the ones determined most likely to have assassinated the King. Did you ever think you’d be among them, sat in anticipation for your very own trial? If only you could see the others―who else was there? How were they handling this situation? Did one of them really dye their hands with the blood of the late King...?

Alas, seeing them was not possible. The cells, you’d come to realize, were quite obstructive.

After much time passed, you began to notice that something was amiss. Where were the guards? Usually they’d pass by on patrol every so often. When did it become so quiet? No footsteps to be heard, and this sense of stillness that came from the estate above… it was unnerving. Those fifteen others were still there, you could tell that much, but―!

Multiple loud sounds of metal shattering filled your ears at once. The locks! Opening the cell was now an option, just like that… but it was hard to be relieved at the thought of your freedom when you had witnessed something that should've been impossible. The way those locks violently broke into pieces was nothing short of paranormal, and that was for certain.

But, you know… just standing around wasn’t going to get you any answers, now, was it?

Just out of curiosity,as you're referencing Danganronpa: do you expect all the major characters to be the equivalent of Ultimates,or at least distinguished in their field? Or will that not be what this story is about?

Amazing premise! Looking forward to seeing where this goes :)
thank you, we are glad to hear it! :> i'm looking forward to this as well!

on the character sheet form, there will be a spot for "occupation" rather than ultimate talent! beyond that, the character can be "the best" in their field if you deem it fitting, but this doesn't necessarily have to be the case.

hey πŸ‘‹ like what our gm has said right above, it's not a requirement for them to be the best of the best. so rest assured there aren't any limits to the extent of what they can / can't do. since it is more of a historical setting, something like a geisha, samurai, or a sailor would be great examples of occupations characters can take on.

My participation in this is still tentative right now,but I had the idea that the character I play might be a sailor from [generic fantasy European country]. Something like being the bodyguard/lieutenant of an ambassador of a trading company who wanted to negotiate with the king of Usaginomiya to mark out land and local labor to build and operate warehouses in the ports. And maybe the king wasn't fully amenable to the terms initially set forth, but invited the ambassador to the palace for further negotiations. The bodyguard came to inspect the palace in advance, and was present when the king was murdered.

So the king's reluctance to sign the trade agreement was taken as a possible motive, and she was arrested.

no worries! but this is a pretty solid concept so far. if you do end up deciding to join, it'd be interesting to see what direction you take this character, personality/social-wise :> its a good thing you already thought of why they'd be labeled as a prime suspect, too, since that will also be a part of the character sheet. which leads me to segway into my next point!

!!! i already have some ideas for my character/s (considering occupations like calligrapher, courtesan, or biwa player).

i've been wondering on additional details regarding the setting, which would probably be a heavy basis on the characters' backgrounds and such. for instance, the specific era in japanese history the story takes place in? (assuming it is set in japan)

of course! actually, when talking about the setting, we were hoping it would be something major enough to impact the characters themselves, compared to if, say, the characters were all in a more modern period. not only for backstory purposes, but the group dynamic as a whole, since back then there was a larger emphasis on jobs and social classes. 0:

where the characters are is basically japan, though it'd probably be more accurate to say "largely inspired by historical japan, but not entirely". i say this because for the most part, what comes to mind is something between the muromachi and the edo periods, but there are some key deviations as well. for example, rather than an emperor, there's a king, meaning this rp's "japan" functions somewhat more like a monarchy; not to mention, while i do see the military being a bit higher up on the social ladder, ultimately they wouldn't have the same kind of influence in running the country as the shogun did in actual history. hopefully this wasn't too convoluted or vague, but if you have any more questions, i'd be happy to clarify more!

'Ello! Are y'all still accepting spots? I know would technically be the first RP I'm in for RPNation, but I have a lot of experience roleplaying beforehand. I can share screenshots of my old work if you like! ^^

tsurene tsurene hi, yes we are! i believe that will be the case up until the first victim or we reach 16 characters. as for your offer, welcome to rpn :> it's not mandatory for people to send examples and such, but if that's something you wish to do, you are more than free to!

Yesss, that's great! Can I also ask a few questions about character creation here or in the OOC? I already have an idea for one character, but I'm not sure if something in their backstory wouldn't conflict with the setting.
