in the woods

She grinned, crossing her arms. "I can make this so much easier by just telling you. I'm immortal. If you try to kill me... well.. let's just say it won't end well for you."

She approached the two girls mockingly, grinning. "But if you still want to have a go at me.. I'll have no further reason not to take the two of you back to my lab."

I stood up. "Everyone has a weakness. Even you." Her words echoed in my head. Test subjects... A shiver raced down my spine and I did my best to stand my ground. "You are going to die, demon."

She tossed her head back and laughed. "You fool.. don't you think I'd be dead if it were possible? Thousands before you have tried, and all have failed. I've given you a warning. Trust me, you don't want to start anything. Besides.. even if I let you go.. well.. I have no doubts that my lord will have his way with you."

"And please, don't keep calling me demon. I have a name, you know."

"I don't care what you say." I said. "You aren't getting that stone." I would rather die than get taken to that lab of hers and I couldn't let that stone get taken again. As much as the mention of labs and test subjects unnerved me, I couldn't let it show. I prepared to fight.

(Sorry I didn't mean to send that twice.)

Lisa took the opportunity and while Naya distracted her she used an assassin technique and snuck up behind her. "Let's play~" Lisa said right before driving her sai into the demons back.

Arietta looked down at the blade protruding from her chest. She chuckled and stepped forwards, the weapon sliding out of her. The wound filled with what looked like liquid shadows, then disappeared completely, as did the blood on the sai. "..like I told you... You can't kill me." She moved her arm in a sweeping motion, using telekineses to knock all the weapons to the floor.

She conjured a forcefield around the blades. "I have to admit you hurt me a little, though. I can't be killed, but I still feel pain."

My dagger dropped to the floor and I took a step back, away from the demon. Most of the demons I'd dealt with in the past weren't like this one. I tried to think up a plan quickly while watching the demon warily. I expected an attack at any moment.

She just stood there, grinning. "Hmm.. what to do with you? After my warning, you still attacked me.. you seem scared.. tell me.. what's bothering you?"

Lisa's sais dropped to the floor and she went to grab some needles from her bag but they where gone to. Damn I've never dealt with an immortal before! Everyone I've ever dealt with could be killed!

She read your thoughts, amused. "I see. You have much to learn then, child."

"Hmm.. shall we go on a little field trip? I think you two would find my work quite interesting."

Lisa remained quiet. She ran at the deamon and plunged her hand through her chest where the heart should be. Lisa smirked sure that withought a heart Hendercat could not live. Lisa looked at her hand where the demon girls heart should be. Lisa gasped because their was no heart her hand was just covered in black blood. Damn!

I feel my heart begin to pound. I could only hope that they couldn't hear it. Test subjects... The words repeated over and over in my mind. I tried to swallow my fear but knowing that I was unarmed didn't give me any comfort.

She laughed at their attempts. "You're quite tenacious, you know. Ordinarily, any 'normal' person would be running and screaming for their lives." She conjured a platform under the girls' feet, binding them to it. "I think I know what to do with you now. You amuse me, so I will not harm you.. but I am taking you with me. Oh.." She raised her hand, summoning the moonstone into it, smirking. "..and we can't forget this now, can we?"

Damn it! The stone! I couldn't move. I froze. My brain just stopped working. Before now, I hadn't feared anything. Now, I am afraid, because now everything I'd promised my mother I would do, would probably never happen. I was angry, but I couldn't to anything yet...

*do

Arietta laughed. "For what? I'm not causing any harm. Like I said, it is not my intent to hurt you, and I am only after the stone because it is my lord's wish."

She stepped onto the platform behind the girls, and teleported into the laboratory.

"You'll pay for making Naya afraid, and for making a fool of me!" Lisa spat at the demon "No one makes a fool out of a great assassin like me!" Lisa yelled in defiance.

She laughed. "I know how you feel, Lisa. I was an assassin of your level for all the years leading up to my transformation. Since I was seven, as a matter of fact." Arietta stepped off the platform and made it vanish, freeing the girls.

I remembered the stories...My best friends story in particular. She disappeared one day and when she came back, she was deformed and a monster. Memories flashed through my mind and I couldn't stop them... I was numb to the outside world... I closed my eyes and tried to relax. The memories stopped and I could think again. Now, to get away...

"Well? Go on. Have a look around. My completed experiments are just over there." She pointed to an area filled with cages, from which inhuman screams erupted.

It's useless Naya. We're better off staying until we find out what she's up to.

Lisa cautiously walked up to one of the cages and almost fed on the screams. She smiled, as an assassin she love the sound of tortured screams.

"..I can still hear your thoughts, you know. And I'M not up to anything. But... if you really want to know what's going on... I can take you to my lord."

I didn't look. I just stood, unable to prevent myself from hearing the screams. I forced myself to stay calm. I never told you that I had a fear of laboratories, did I?
