Fantasy In The Dark

That Music Loving Loner
HappyBeingMe submitted a new resource:

In The Dark - You've always heard of the things that go 'bump' in the night, but what if they weren't that scary?

You've always heard of what goes 'bump' in the night, but what if they weren't that scary?

Here in Ghoulsville there are many different places.

Take a look around, you'll see many scary faces.

But do not judge a book by it's cover.

You'll never know 'til you look down under

The face that scares you might be a friend.

Be careful, though, Ghoulsville's a dead end.

Read more about this resource...

There are four sections of Ghoulsville

  • Cloud District (Where the high class live)
  • Shop District (Obviously where all of the shops are)
  • Middle District (Where the Middle Class live)
  • Fog District (Where the homeless live)

In the cloud district there is a big castle, where Count Octalus lives and watches over the town. There are also some mansions scattered here and there.

In the shop district small shops of all types circle a small garden where some come to rest or hang out.

The Middle District is full of houses, that the normals live in.

There is also a small park where some of the kid ghouls go to play with each other.

The Fog District consists of a dark tunnel, with a few run down cabins, there are all sorts of dangerous things there. It is the closest to the human world.

<Like all towns and such Ghoulsville residents work for their money. They can be whatever they wish, but beware those who wish to be in some businesses will have to wander into the human realm>

  • Please read the 'maps' section if you haven't already, it will give you a vision of what the town might look like.
  • No Mary Sues or Gary Stues.
  • Okay, I know that their supernatural beings, but don't give them unnecessary powers. Like giving the ghosts the power to pass into heaven or whatnot then come back.
  • Please, if you're going to have love scenes and things get a bit.. Heated, fade to black. Please, please please, ain't nobody got time for that.
  • If you have read all of these put the word 'Scare' at the end of your character sheet, thank you.

Count Octalus smiles happily at the citizens of Ghoulsville. "Hello everyone! As you all may know it is nearly time for the Fall Festival, and I hope that each and every one of you will participate in making it the best yet!" He says, his cheery voice echoing throughout the town square. "Also, the witches in town have been working on new concealment potions, I'm not completely sure what it is, but you can ask any of the witches or warlocks here in town." Octalus adds, then clears his throat. "That is all for the announcements this month!" He says, then steps down from his stage thing and makes his way back to his home.

Mary smiles at her mother as she mixes something in a cauldron. "When are you going to teach me potion making, mother?" She asks the tall lady. "When you are ready, dearest." Her mother says, pushing her long black hair from her face. Some mortals think witches are hideous creatures, with green faces and warts, but Mary's mother was beautiful. "Alright, well I'm going to go and explore I'll be back soon." Mary says as she walks out of Cauldron Full and towards the town's book shops. "Spell Books Galore." She says, smiling. Maybe she could find some new spells to practice with.

Abberline's snow white hair glistened with radiance. He was a beautiful sight to bestow, along with his twin sister Aveline. The two were absolutely magnificent to the eye. The two stood, side by side, and listened to Count Octalus. The Fall Festival was always fun. A smile etched across his face as he thought of it. Oh how wonderful it always was! But soon, Octalus ended his announcements, meaning it was time for him to head back to the store he and his sister worked at. The two were hardly ever seen apart, undoubtedly they were going to end up working at the same place together. "Come Av." He grabbed a hold of her hand and they parted from the crowd.

Aveline watched quietly as she stood beside her tall and handsome brother. She watched as the young girls around watched. The little witches and the ghosts. Only one girl held his heart, and that was her. Aveline was going to need to interview any fiend who seemed interested in her wonderful brother. She had to admit, they were growing older. Soon, they would start their own families. It was a sad reality, but a true one nonetheless. She gladly accepted Abberline's hand and began walking with him towards Spell Books Galore. As they reached the back entrance, she slid the key into the hole, opening the door and shuffling inside behind Abberline. She walked in behind the front desk where the customers would check out and watched as Abberline changed the status of the shop to "open".

Clista had listened with ease to the announcements and smiled after wards. She then walked back over to the pet store and went back to the job she had to finish, she still had to clean the cages and take the animals for a walk and try and sell them, and you would not believe how hard that was because everyone was busy doing something. But she loved this job and could not think of a better way to spend her time besides swimming.

Kurt sat on the floor, in Spell Books Galore, flipping through the pages of a book. It was all about Levitation, something Kurt had already mastered. But, the reason he was reading on this particular subject, is because there appears to be a difference from how one of Kurt's kind, and any other magic user casts spells. A Dathryrie's spells come from Runes. A large book, filled with said runes, normally sits on the end of a Dathryrie staff, so the Dathryrie has easy access to all of his magic. On the other hand, it seemed that no other magic used these runes. So, he had been doing research into the matter, to see if it was possible for him to preform any other kind of magic, or if anyone else could preform his magic. He was in human form, as always, so he would need to return home, or somewhere private, in order to use his true forn, and have better access to his magic. He refused to let anyone see his true form. He didn't think anyone could handle it, really. He was too scared that they would hate him for what he was, for being a bit too different.

He closed the book, pulling himself to his feet, and heading over to the counter. He saw Avelrine there, "Hello Averline," he said, before placing the book on the counter. "May I purchase this?" he asks, looking in his pockets for any cash he could use. He realized he didn't have enough, and sighed to himself. "Well, I actually don't have enough, so..." he paused thinking, "Could I rent it?" he asked, looking up at her. "I only need it for today," he said, shrugging.

Aveline smiled at Kurt, grabbing the book. She opened the front cover and wrote the date of today on it. "This book hasn't been checked out too many times." she noted. There were only two other dates on it. She shrugged and handed the book to Kurt. "Bring it back in three days or less." She gave him a wink. Aveline could be a bit flirty. And Kurt was rather attractive in her opinion. She looked up, wondering what Abberline was doing. Surely enough he was organizing new book into the shelves. She turned her attention back to Kurt. "Come again." she said warmly.

Nora was dusting off the crystal ball in the back of Rebel's when she noticed the crowd receding from the town square after the mayor's announcement. She liked the shop because, having few frequenters, it was nearly always quiet. Nora avoided public functions when she could. The Fall Festival was the only exception. After she was finished dusting, she ran her knuckles along the spines of the old leather-back books to make sure they were categorized correctly. The elderly warlock who ran the antique shop was up at the front, dozing off with the newspaper in his lap. She'd wake him if he started snoring, but if there were customers, there was always the bell at the door. Nora smiled at the pleasantness of her situation. She was quite content.

Kurt smiled back, taking the book when she handed it to him. "Thanks," he said, before continuing, "Three days or less, got it," he said, before turning around, as she turned, watching her brother. He headed towards the entrance, before hearing what she said, "Sure thing," he said, turning around, and smiling, before he opened the door, and left the store. He headed through town, before stopping in the park. He sat down, on the bench under the tree, the place he normally sat. He opened up the book, and continued reading.

He decided that he'd return to his old cabin in the Fog District sometime later, and try out some of these spells. He had enchanted his cabin, to make it so that it would appear and sound normal at all times, no matter what was going on inside. So, he could unleash his true form, and practice all the magic he wanted, without someone disturbing him.

But for now, he'd just read, here in the park.

Mary walks into the book store and over to a bookcase, after shooting the boy and girl there a smile. She picks a spell book at random and opens it up, seeing that it had elemental spells, she had yet to learn those. She smiles and snaps the book shut before walking up to the counter. "I'd like to buy this book, please." She says as she pulls cash from her pocket, it should be enough. "Is this enough?" She asks, just to make sure.

Aveline looks at the money. "Hmm," she grabs the money and counts it. "Yes. I suppose it will do." She opens the front flap and writes the date on it, crossing the date over with red ink, indicating that it did not need to be returned.

"Enjoy your endeavors." She hands the book to Mary and returns back to her own that she had been reading as she waiting for more customers. It wasn't a spell book. It was a romance novel about two humans. She was just getting to the good part. "Oh how naughty," she whispered slightly, giggling a little.

Abberline watches as Mary bits a book. He took out a little notebook and wrote down the name of the book. They would need to purchase another one for the store now. After he had finished scribbling he looks back to her. Her hair was so red. Almost like blood. Would a girl think that as a compliment? Surely they would considering all of their predicaments? He smiled at the young girl. "Did you find everything you were looking for?"

"Oh, yes. Thank you." Mary says, looking at the boy who had spoken to her. "I like your hair." She says, before a blush shows up on her face. "Erm, sorry. Uh, so you work here, huh?" She asks before mentally slapping herself. She could almost never talk to the opposite sex, even if she didn't like the person. She was fine with talking to girls, though, that's what made her question in the first place.

Abberline smiled and bowed courteously. "Why I myself was just admiring yours." He straightened back to his full height, towering above the small girl. "Yes. My sister and I," he answered her question, pointing to his sister behind the desk. She was obviously a bit new around here, for most all of Ghoulsville knew the twins.

Aveline glanced up from her novel, astounded by what she saw. That girl had deemed it got to talk to Abberline. She puts her book down and slowly gets up, walking over to the two. "Oh, I'm sorry? Is there more I can help you with?" She asked, raising an eyebrow at the red headed girl.

"Oh, I was just complimenting your brother on his hair is all." Mary says kindly to Aveline. "Thank you, I'm Mary Antique, pretty new here." She says as she looks out of the window at her mother's shop. "Mother and I run Cauldron Full, just over there." She adds, pointing a finger at the shop. "You two are welcome to come any time, we've got all kinds of things for potions."

Clista looked around the store, she guessed none was coming any time soon so she left and put a note on the door. Then she walked over to the book store, she was a bit new in this town and not many people knew her from a hole in the ground so she was a bit nervous to walk into a store she had never been in. She pushed open the door, and walked in quietly she saw that some people were in a conversation and realized that she would have to wait until the lady at the desk was free. So she just stood by the door and waited until there conversation was done, when little did she know her brother was about to role into town and screw a lot of things up.

December sat on a bench near a darkened alleyway and played with the hem of her long skirt, wondering just what she should do now. When she had come here she hadn't given much thought to how it would be for her to make contact with anyone. The town was very different than her own home in the fog district.

"Maybe I should have stayed home." She thought to herself, looking around at the people walking about looking happy and confident in their surroundings and their skin. She longed to be that comfortable with herself and others.

He closed his book, getting to his feet. He began to head out of the park. He headed down the sidewalk, walking off towards the Fog District. Now, was the time for some experiments. He grinned slightly. He always enjoyed magic, especially learning new kinds of runes, or In this case, new magic in general. He did not expect himself to be able to pull this off, as it didn't involve Runes. But he had to be sure. An, he still had to check if anyone else could preform Rune Magic. But, he'd need someone to help him..... He entered the Fog District

After hours of just sitting there trying to gather courage, Decmber feels her will break and she stands quickly fleeing into the shadows and using them to reach the edge of the fog distric in seconds. She can't do this. She doesn't do well under pressure, maybe tomorrow. Dropping her glamour, revealing a too large grin of pearly teeth and dark shadows on her skin she begins her walk home, the dark murky air refreshing in her lungs.

Aveline shrugged."Alright, sure." she said to the red headed girl. Aveline was actually quite friendly. She just feared for her brother. What if he got hurt? She'd kill any woman who dared destroy her brother's heart. But was the fear really just for her brother? Did she not fear that Abberline would soon figure out that he didn't need her anymore? She shook the idea from her head. She noticed that another girl had walked into the store.

"Oh, hello, Clista."

At that she dismissed herself and calmly strutted back to her novel behind the desk.

Abberline smiled at Mary. "That's a lovely name. I'm Abberline." he said smoothly, doing a small bow before her. "And that's Aveline." He shook his head at his naive sister and watched as she continued to read some odd romance novel. "We have a whole extra section towards the back. Books of course. But, not spell books. It's usually where Aveline gets her fix on reading. They're plain old books for entertainment I suppose." He looked at Mary, and then to Clista. "Anything I can help you with?" he asked. He was quite the gentleman. He would help out anyone who walked into this shop.

Mary mocks Abberline's bow and stands straight. "Alright, well it was great to meet you, Abberline." She says, then smiles kindly at Clista. She gives a small wave before walking out of the shop with the book she had just bought. She walks straight to Cauldron Full and smiles at her mother who was now sat behind the counter helping a customer. "Everything is fine here, Mary. You can go out and meet new people. Just stay clear of the Fog District." Her mother tells her and Mary nods. She sets the book down on a table and walks out of the store, but instead of following her mother's orders she makes a b-line straight to the Fog District.

Clista jumped in surprise, "How do you know my name?" She asked Aveline with a confused face, completely forgetting why she had come here. She walked up to the desk and looked her straight in the eye, "Im confused now!" she laughed "Oh, do you have any book on strange pets like supernatural pets? Wait what other pets would i be talking?" She smiled and stood there waiting for a reply.

December drifts through the darkness of her home easily, knowing every stone and ever dip in the landscape from years of haunting it with her family. Sighing she finds her way to the edge of the swamp and makes herself cozy under the silvery weeping willow there. She rubs her hands together slowly and waits a moment before pulling them apart, thin glittering lines of purple forming between her fingers, she is going to craft a night terror.
