Coal

Curled in the corner Coal looked out over his room, waiting, he was waiting for his stepmother to come down the stairs and tell him what he must do today, if he would be staying in this room, if he would be allowed clothes, if he would fetch water or cook or remain with his eyes closed in a kneeling position. Also she would tell him how he was to address her today, everything from 'love' to 'my love' to 'mistress' to 'mamma', even by her name' Caroline', once by his own mother's name, once by his fathers. On one occasion she had asked to be called 'Emily'. He curled his naked and dirty body in on himself, feeling the aches of his twisted knee, and the deep tissue of bruise on his lower back, the scabbing scrape between his shoulders, and the puffy and raw two week old whippings. He shut his eyes tightly and began to recall the one of the stories his mother would tell him as the footsteps began above his head. Curling in tighter the chains began to make noise and he was shaking.

"...

There was once upon a time a king who had a little boy in whose stars

it had been foretold that he should be killed by a stag when he was

sixteen years of age, and when he had reached that age the huntsmen

once went hunting with him. In the forest, the king's son was

separated from the others, and all at once he saw a great stag which

he wanted to shoot, but could not hit...."

Henry

Henry woke beside his wife, the curtains were filtering the light into a gentle brush with the dust stirring him into the world. Lillian was turned away from him, laying many feet from him on the great bed. they slept in the same room but the bed was very large and vast, they never had to touch unless they chose to. Which last night they hadn't. Her hair liked stained redwood spilled across her pillow like a napkin of bright silk left out to dry. She was very beautiful, he knew that, he could see it, he frowned to himself as it again didn't illicit a reaction as he had seen the stable boys bring forth when she floated by, or her skirt hitched on her saddle. Looking back at the window he closed his eyes to the warm sun stinging away the harsh morning chill. He opened his eyes slipping noiselessly from the bed, his feet met the warmth of Piper, the large wolf whom he kept. She opened her stunning eyes, one yellow and one a deep white. She blinked at him but did not make a sound, she never made a sound. It's why he had named her Piper, the music which is subtle. rising from his bed and leaving his wife he found a basin already filled with water. The basin was set into the floor of the bathroom and was made from blue green marble. The water had been scented like cinnamon, and apples, and was warm. He relaxed looking up into the crystal ceiling as day broke.

Seraphina

Seraphina let out an explicit moan as she rolled to stretch cat like over her bed, humming she opened her eyes lazily. She was lying naked in her bed, she always slept naked, her sheets were blood red silk and there were furs pressed to the side of her body. Her room was dark and thickly carpeted, red and silver and black silk hung from the walls. The bed was large and could be curtained, but the drapes were tied back, there was a window at the headboard which was closed with thick deep red drapes. Spreading her arms Sera began to plan her day, she could either torture Coal, watch her mother do that, or she could go into town. There was a new dark haired girl in town, she had moved here from a neighboring country with her father who was a new ambassador. She had a delicate and small subtle figure and was a bit mousy and shy in her ways, modest. And she was definitely more interested in Sera than the boys in town. Sera always liked the dark haired ones. She preferred straight hair, like her sister's but at least this ones eyes were blue. This one, her name was Gabriella, she thought, was curvier than Diana too, but it was okay, only straight edges got boring.

Sera shook off the thoughts about her sister, and threw off the gold rope that was holding the curtains shut. Letting the sunlight break open the dark room.

~ Caroline ~

Up earlier than both of her children, Caroline got dressed, did her hair and make-up, and ate breakfast, all before laying eyes upon Coal. She liked to have her strength up and her war paint on before she visited him, though she certainly thought of him as she dined on sweet fruits and freshly baked bread that morning, savouring each bite with the knowledge that Coal would never again receive such kind of luxury. A weak child like that didn't deserve the riches of the world.

When she was good and ready, she descended the steps to the basement, the thick, heavy silk of her dark purple gown trailing behind her, the jewels of her corset catching the dim light of the stairwell. Though she saw fewer and fewer guests with each passing day, she still relished in her own beauty, and dressing up. Again, it was the contrast to Coal's situation that gave her her thrills; she could wear whatever she liked, and could afford it all, whereas Coal's dress was completely under her control, and he held no power in the situation whatsoever.

Opening the door to the basement, carrying a lit lantern in one hand, an apple in the other, Caroline stepped in, her heeled boots clacking against the stone floor. Her step-son lay twisted amongst his chains by the back wall, illuminated by the light streaming through the door. It was perhaps a rare sight to be greeted with in the mornings, but one Caroline had carefully tailored herself, and it was what she needed to face the rest of the day. "Coal, sweetheart," she cooed softly, giving him her best smile as she closed the door behind her. "Your mamma's here. Oh look at you, all curled up here and trembling like a leaf."

Walking closer, she cupped his jaw with her hand and combed her fingers through his hair to untangle it, pinching at his cheeks to brighten them. Wetting her thumb with her lips, she wiped the dirt from his face and gave him a sweet smile, lifting the lantern to inspect his face. "You have such lovely hair, Cindy," she said kindly, fiddling with it and noting how long it had grown, long past needing a good cut. Biting into the apple, she held a large piece between her teeth and then carefully knelt down, smoothing her skirts beneath her. She set the lantern down beside her, and secured Coal's jaw with one hand, her grip firm, and she leaned in closer. Without words, though the instruction was clear, she leant in towards his face, her lips level with his, holding the apple in her lips so that the tip just stuck out.

~ Diana ~

Unable to sleep, prone to insomnia, Diana had not spent the night in her own room. Instead, somewhere in the twilight hours she had snuck through to her sister's room, moving quietly across the floors dressed in a floaty, translucent nightgown that plumed around her knees. Her sister she had found wrapped amongst her sheets and furs stark naked, as always, and had pressed a small, chaste kiss to Seraphina's forehead, careful not to wake her. Treading lightly, she left her sister behind and had slipped under the thick curtain's of her sister's window, pulling herself up onto the wide window seat that nestled her body perfectly. Resting her forehead against the frosted glass of the window, she'd then spent the remaining hours dedicated to sleep gazing out of the window, humming quietly to herself every now and then, though not so loudly as to wake her twin.

Come morning, having watched the sun rise and brighten, Diana listened to her sister moan and stretch, able to picture perfectly how she looked. When they had been younger, they had often shared a bed, never out of necessity, but rather choice. Diana had been a bad sleeper even as a child, and her only sure fire way of acquiring rest in a night was to spend it curled up beside her sister, holding her hand as she drifted off to sleep. Now they were young ladies such things would perhaps be considered odd or immature, especially given that they both ought to be married and that Sera slept naked, but if Sera had been awake, Diana would have held no qualms about slipping under the sheets with her. It seemed imprudent to wake her sister, however, and besides, she enjoyed the window seat too, the gardens of their home really quite beautiful in the gentle light of dawn.

"Good morning," Diana said quietly when Sera flung back the drapes, casting light into her murky room. Not caring that her sister was naked and right by a window, more than used to it, Diana took her sister's hand and used it to pull her down onto the window seat with her, bringing her knees up to make room for her.

~ Lillian ~

It seemed more mornings that not Lillian awoke to find her husband absent from bed. Perhaps she was just being old-fashioned, but she enjoyed waking to find his body next to hers, keeping the sheets warm and not providing an unwelcome sight first thing in the morning. They hadn't slept together the previous night, though Lillian didn't mind much. Sex for her had never been something she wished for from her husband for any reason over than childbearing, though sometimes the warmth of another human body proved comforting at night. She enjoyed it when he did touch her, but after so many years of marriage, she'd become finely attuned to his preferences and likings. She was astute enough to know that, for whatever reason, he did not find her desirable, though she rarely worried that some young thing at court would sweep away his interests. He'd never shown an unswayable desire for anyone so far as she knew, and she was content with that. It kept him focused on the kingdom, and when he did go to bed, he did so with her, and that was enough.

Sitting up and rolling her shoulders, feeling sore and old that morning, Lillian slipped from her bed-covers and padded through in her nightgown to the bathroom, finding her husband already in the bath. Stripping off her gown, Lillian stepped into the waters with him, no longer as skinny as she used to be so she couldn't just slip in beside him, but with a bit of rearranging of limbs they both just about managed to fit. The rich aromas of the water relaxed her, and she gave her husband a polite morning smile. "What's in store for you today then?" She asked as she covered a yawn.

~ Jack ~

With one of his father's famous balls scheduled for that evening, Jack was supposed to be joining his brothers in preparing and having a new swanky suit made for the gathering. Unfortunately for the poor tailors hired to help out with the royal heirs, Jack was nowhere to be found in the palace. Having woken up just as the sun rose, he'd slipped out of the castle with one of the horses and rode down to the streets of the kingdom, relishing in the morning exercise and cold morning air. Having dressed plainly so as to avoid getting stares or hassle for his heritage, Jack dismounted at the market place and led the horse by rope, looking round at the wares and stalls. The food all looked and smelled amazing, and everyone was so busy and so hung up on haggling about prices and getting the best product for their money. It was the kind of bustling activity that only ever went on in the back passages of the castle, and there his mother or siblings could find him and leash him into the joys of standing rock still for several hours on end.

Yes, it was an asshole move to both those paid to help him and his well-meaning family, but that day was market day and it was worth the lecture he'd get to see the food and people. People were always his favourite part of the kingdom, and watching them argue and bicker with one another was just his weird idea of morning entertainment. Moreover, he knew that tonight he'd be meeting for the first time his new fiance. He was kind of hoping to be able to sneak a meeting beforehand with his identity unknown to meet her without the treatment that would come with his position and their engagement. The one piece of advice his mother had given him regarding marriage was to know the woman, not the wife, and he'd been given directions to her family home by one of the palace messengers.

Sera

Sera curled in the corner across from her sister, reaching down into the bed she pulled a fur from the bed and smiled across at her twin. "Morning, you didn't sleep," It wasn't a question but a simple statement. Of course Dianna didn't sleep. "Wanna go into town? I mean we already have dresses for the prince's ball, but why wear those? Let's make Coal wash them and then cry and buy new ones!" The princes ball was very important to Sera, having a powerful man to call her own would be great, give her lots of sway. "mmm, I wonder what Gabriella will wear, probably pink..." Sera screwed up her face at the thought of the hated color. Looking to her sister to read her emotions. She rested her chin on her arms folded on her knees to look at her sister, whom she read like an open book most of the time.

Coal (coal's sections are short, mostly cuz he's so shut inside and the feeling he has no emotion is what I want but it's hard to write a charecter like that)

His stepmother had the apple again. He knew that it was not in fact the same apple but it was always apples, with her. Coal reached up taking the apple from her mouth like a little bird. He chewed his food and swallowed pushing himself up to knell at the floor. "Good morning Mama." He said without emotion or emphasis. "Do I have chores today Mother dear?" he said folding his hands in his lap and not meeting the eyes of the women before him. "Would you like me to visit the girls?" His voice had long since lost all tone or inflection. After saying three things he fell silent. He had long figured out that three questions was optimal.

".....

At length he chased the stag

so far that they were quite out of the forest, and then suddenly a

great tall man was standing there instead of the stag, and said, "It

is well that I have you. I have already ruined six pairs of glass

skates with running after you, and have not been able to reach you....."

Henry

Henry smiled at his wife, faint glimmer of fondness. Using one of his feet he rubbed his toes gently along her smooth legs. He knew she didn't feel beautiful anymore. Though she found her very beautiful, objectively, he still felt no attraction, the beauty of flowers did not wither with time as many thought. Beauty to him was just a objective thing, he saw beauty in a painting and appreciated it, didn't feel it.

"We have a ball in attempt to find Jack a wife." He said, of course Lillian knew this already, how could she not? Her youngest son was her pride and joy, a joyful little ball of red hair. Of course the ball was advertised as an open invite for all, to find love. In reality there was a pre paired down list of people who would be gentle corralled around Jack. He relaxed into the tub to his chin. "We probably will have to find him first, he should be at a fitting right now. But..." He looked to his wife to finish off his thought.

~ Diana ~

Though her sister's words had not been a question, Diana shook her head anyway, watching her sister grab the fur and tucking her toes under the edge of it. The hairs tickled the soles of her feet, and she smiled absently as she leant back against the wall, listening to her sister ramble on. Most people weren't so talkative first thing in the morning, but this was Sera, and Diana expected nothing less. "I'd like that," she said quietly, looking out of the window at the mention of the new girl, Gabriella. She was pretty, though Diana disliked her hair, ratty and curly. She didn't seem like much of an opponent or and ally, nothing special or noteworthy about her save decent looks and an agreeable temperament. What irked Diana about her, however, was her sister's interest. She could tell from Sera's tone alone that her intentions were far from innocent.

Smiling slowly, Diana imagined her sister pursing the girl and all irritation melted away. She'd seen how Gabriella looked back at Sera; the girl was putty in her sister's hands. She'd be no match, and in that, no real fun. Feeling jealous was idiotic in this case. "You like her?" She asked her sister, feigning innocence as she raised one neat eyebrow, pulling the fur a little further up her own legs.

~ Caroline ~

Her shoulders slumping in disappointment, Caroline narrowed her eyes at the boy, the fragile sweetness she'd felt snapping. Really, his actions hadn't been what she'd been intending; she'd rather been hoping he'd retrieve the apple with his own mouth and play along with her game. His scorn was not appreciated, and her grip upon his jaw tightened, her nails digging into skin. "You're starting to bore me, child," Caroline said, her voice quiet but still sharp. "And I warn you that I do not keep surplus items around for sentiment. I feed you and house you out of the goodness of my heart. Learn to speak with gratitude when you address me if you wish to maintain that goodness."

Holding him for a long moment, studying his face, Caroline kissed him slowly before releasing him entirely and standing, smoothing down her skirts. "You are to tend to my daughters immediately. Then I want you back down here swiftly, and you are to wait until I return to punish you suitably for your ungrateful behaviour."

~ Lillian ~

Smiling in appreciation for her husband's gesture of kindness, Lillian gave his foot a small, grateful squeeze, before sighing and rubbing her temples with her fingertips. "I swear that boy will be the death of me. You'd think he had no interest in a wife, or any woman at all for that matter, save for his sister, and we're not being one of those royal families," Lillian said with mock sternness, half joking, half genuinely exasperated. "No doubt he'll be off with one of the horses by now." Leaning back in the tub, she squared her shoulders, the perfect image of a warrior save for the fact that she was naked in a bath. "I will get that boy married though, no matter how much of a lost cause he may be. The Karmen sisters are coming to the ball tonight, correct? I've already told Jack that I want to try and arrange for him a meeting and a marriage with one of them. They have the finance to make it a good match, and thanks to their mother's reclusion, Jack hasn't been able to meet and reject them yet." Sighing wistfully, Lillian no longer felt the bath could relax her. She needed to get her younger son sorted and fast, before he became anymore of a project.

Pulling herself out of the tub, she dried herself and then turned back to her husband. "Make sure you talk to him beforehand. He needs to understand the importance of a successful match tonight. The Kingdom needs it." She had no qualms about making political claims around her husband, though she'd never speak so bluntly in public. She'd never feared her husband, however, a fact she was truly grateful for, and that she returned with honesty.

~ Jack ~

As his parents had predicted, Jack was doing a good job of avoiding the preparations for that evening. Wandering from stall to stall, be bought what he could with the money he'd taken along and chatted to the various vendors, asking about their wares. He'd never been able to concentrate long enough to learn anything during his tutoring sessions about finance and how to run a business and a kingdom, but hearing it from the mouths of people involved was an entirely different matter. The light escape of the morning was diminished, however, by how often the vendors spoke of hard economical times, and though Jack knew little of how such matters worked, it seemed the kingdom was going through a rough patch.

Just when he was in the middle of being lectured by a slightly loopy old man who was predicting he end of days, someone grabbed his shoulder. "Oi, beanstalk," a voice said, and Jack was spun around to find one of his elder brothers looking back at him, his expression indicating that he was not impressed with the usual runaway-from-suit-making-time routine. One of the twins, he was built like a god, and would be perfectly capable of dragging Jack back to the castle kicking and screaming if he chose to resist capture. "Haven't you got somewhere to be?"

Thus escorted by his charming sibling, who like most of his siblings, was endowed with a shock of red hair, Jack returned in silence, thinking over all the worries the merchants had held. He would have asked his brother about it, but Edward, the one who had found him, was more knowledgable in the sword than he was numbers and calculations, and probably knew as little as he did. He made a mental note to ask his father instead, who knew everything were was to know about anything, or so it seemed.

Coal ~ Sera

Coal stood, giving her a nod. He had been stupid. It was stupid to dismiss her. He had to play along. He stood shakily, knowing he would get no clothes today, he tucked a strand of dirty hair behind his ear and clenched his fist to stop shaking. He had gone longer without a bath than normally his Carlo- MOTHER, would allow. She liked him clean, since she liked to be clean. He made his way to the kitchen and began breakfast, simple eggs and toast, an tea. He gathered his tray, and headed to Sera's room, hoping she had dressed. He didn't like to think of the things that would happen if she hadn't yet. The tea sloshed and he hissed as it burned his hand. Carefully making his way to her room he opened the door to find both of the girls at the window seat near the bed.

~

"Mm, I like her hair, she has nice eyes too. Pale. She'll be quick fun before the ball tonight, then I will need to focus on Jack." She smiled wickedly Reaching under the fur to grasp her left breast. "These will make me royal." She teased. Coal appeared, naked with a tray of food. She turned to him, "Oh! Brother DEAR!" She cried slipping from the seat she left the fur with her sister and sauntered towards him. Taking the tea she could feel how hot it was, scalding, there was a small mark on his hand that showed just how much. She took the tea sniffed it. "Oh why, Coal, your shivering! Have some tea!" She said Picking up the pot and tipping it over him at his bellybutton. It poured down and he yelped setting the tray down quickly as she emptied the pot on to his manhood. He fell to his knees.

"good-good-Good Morning."

She hummed and set down the now empty pot.

"You drank all the tea, I will have to tell mother."

Henry

He nodded knowingly at his wife. "The Karmen sister's are a good match, either one would do fine." Technically there were 12 girls on the list for Jack to dance with tonight, the Karmen sister's topped that list, and in reality were the only two really in the running, Jack should be happy, he had a chance to pick, most Royals didn't get that. I didn't really matter which, anyways.

Henry allowed himself a few more minutes to get clean he slipped from the tub and dressed casually in a light cotton shirt and leather pants, he slipped on a belt and headed out, Piper was at his heels. He had a few things to see to about the ball, mostly the guards, then he had a speech to write and needed to look at the finance book. He sighed just thinking about it, times were tough on the peasants, he couldn't help them, too many people lived in luxury and their taxes would not be raised without riots. What they badly needed was for families like the Karmen's to marry peasants. Re distribute the wealth. He patted Piper as he strode into the ballroom where the guards were at the main table going over a map of the building.

Emily~

Kneeling by the pool she was angry. Very very angry. She splashed the water causing her neighboring Kindeka to look up from where her charge was dying from sickness. "Is it yet your time?" She asked quietly.

"No, there is nothing I can do yet." She said looking at her hands, "The only thing I can see to help is the ball." Her neighbor raised her eyebrows looking back to the ding girl.

"You think you can lead him to love?"

"I think he's cute and will catch the attention of and ambassadors daughter at the ball. I think Having him marry a state official would appeal to his step-mother and I think there is nothing else I can do before she kills him." It was a long shot, most of the Kindeka who had heard about Coal knew there was very little she could do but take a long shot, any long shot or Coal would die, very soon he would die.

~ Diana ~

Smirking at her sister's antics with Coal, Diana threaded her fingers through her hair, thinking about the prince. They'd never met in person, but she'd seen him from a distance and didn't think much of him. From what she could tell he seemed easy though, all smiles and friendly behaviour, eager to please. Though she had little desire for him, she smiled anyway and slipped off of the window ledge. "Not if I win his heart," she said softly, resting a hand on her sister's shoulder before she moved over to Coal, looking him over, eyeing the scalding the tea had caused. "What a mess," she said as if surprised.

Giving her sister a small parting smile, she wandered back to her own room and dressed herself, leaving Sera to put the finishing touches to Coal, not really in the mood for the easy target that morning. Pulling out a pale blue dress that looked soft to touch and dipped around her neckline and showed off her shoulders, she slipped into it and knotted the waist, admiring herself in the mirror. Where Sera had raunchy sex appeal, she worked with a different skill set, and knew her beauty lay less in lust, more in enchantment. Combing her hair, she pinned it back with a bejewelled hairpiece shaped like a bird, and then went through the house to find her sister and some food. "Let's go into town soon," she said, picking up a slice of toast before finding her sister. "And I want you to tell me about the prince. Is he like father was?"

~ Lillian & Jack ~

After dining and dressing, Lillian was informed that Jack had been found, and with every intention of giving him a good ear-ringing, she thus marched down to the dressing room set aside for fittings that day. Her youngest son had indeed been retrieved and captured, stood up on a stool and looking sheepish as a tailor measured him out and tried out fabrics against his skin and hair colours. "Young man, do I even want to ask where you've been?" Lillian asked sternly, nodding in polite greeting to the tailors gathered.

"He was out with the commoners again, mother," Abigail, her youngest child replied from beside Jack, looking incredibly bored as a seamstress measured her for a new dress. She was the only non-redhead in the family, platinum blonde and with baby blue eyes and a pretty face, though her tongue was sharper than all her siblings put together.

"It was market day," Jack said in his defence, perking up at the idea of where he'd been rather than where he was. "All the merchants kept harrowing on about financially difficult times. Is that true, mother? Is the kingdom having money troubles?"

"We could be doing better," Lillian replied curtly, knowing that the tailors would be listening, and they didn't want to further the gossip any more than need be. "Which is exactly why it is vital that you are on your best behaviour this evening. I don't care which of the Karmen sisters you marry, but you have to pick one of them. Their wealth and their mother will make valuable assets in the comings years, and you can't afford to keep dillydallying about in the streets."

"Yes mother," Jack replied without enthusiasm, mulling over the confirmation that the kingdom was having difficulties.

~ Caroline ~

Finding Diana in the dining room, Caroline smiled tightly at her daughter, still in a sour mood from Coal's behaviour. "The pair of you are to go into town today and buy yourself a new dress each. I want you both to be splendid for this evening. I've been led to believe that you are to be thrown the prince's way, and you both know what that could mean for us." Royalty. Royalty and power, two things that sounded very, very good to Caroline.

"Sera's already planned it, mother dearest," Diana replied quietly, before slipping out of the kitchen, no doubt to go and find her sister. Satisfied that the message had been conveyed, Caroline cast aside her sulk and decided to focus on what was important; furthering the family's position. Going to retrieve an old belt from her closet, which had once belonged to her deceased husband, Caroline thus headed back down to the basement, her shoulders back now, all irritation wiped from her expression.

(Sorry it's short, I've got to go out so I rushed it a bit to manage to send something tonight)

Coal ~ Sera

It hurt. He scrambled away from his Sera when they were alone. "I, Will, be going Mrs. Is there any other way..." Sera laughed wickedly grasping him by the bottom of his skull.

"Call me darling, mother get's you to call her all sorts of pretty little names. I want to be darling." Coal closed his eyes, hers were so icy it made him sick.

"Yes darling."

"good." She kissed him firmly, it was dry and more of a pressed touching of their lips than a kiss. It didn't count, that's what he often told himself, real kisses were the ones in his mother's books. The ones that could take a princess and wake her, wake her from death. Take a frog, change his life. Those were the kisses that counted. The kisses he received here, the... the.. Kisses... he received in his room were not real. Not what a kiss was. Kisses didn't hurt so much. Coal could be sure of that. Sera let out a animalistic curling growl, slapping his face hard on the prominent bone. "I want nothing with such sloppiness. Go to mother, see if she can fix you, the next time I do that, I want you to feel it." She turned snapping a robe up from the dressing chair. "GET OUT. What business do you have here? I am not even dressed! You monster, leave before I tell mother your a peeping tom." Coal hurried out the door and headed to the basement, curling his knees to his chest he laid his forehead on to one of the corners. It was not long before he heard the door open.

"...

Then he took the king's son with him, and dragged him through a great

lake to a great palace, and he had to sit down to table with him and

eat something. When they had eaten something together the king said,

"I have three daughters, you must keep watch over the eldest for one

night, from nine in the evening till six in the morning...."

~

After she had the minute amount of amusement with Coal Sera dressed for the day. It was a green dress for her that had a collar line that could be referred to as 'modest' by the dress standards in town, but lined her neck in a way that left little to the imagination. A small line of black ruffles lined the edges, the skirt floating down heavily along her legs. She wore plain shoes and did her hair into a pile of ringlets behind he head, lamenting not for the first time that her mother hired no servant but Coal, Unlike most noble ladies, she could do her own hair.

Sera often walked as though halfway between tiptoeing and flight. She made her way gently down the stairs to meet her sister with the instructions to buy dresses in town. She took a slice of toast and spread it with grape sauce.

"The prince is not like father, in fact I believe he is a bit slow." She told her sister in answer. "But Royal." she added emphatically.

(perhaps a bit short, Emily is sorta no in play yet a post from her wouldn't show much change since her last appearance, and Henry would be like awkwardly there.)

Caroline

Finding Coal curled up pathetically on the floor, Caroline merely sneered at his weakness. Whilst she would have crushed him if he fought back, she still hated him for not, perhaps for taking away the opportunity to punish him. She didn't know exactly why she despised him so much, though she could come up with a dozen excuses and vile reasons if she wanted to. There was just something about him and his everything that made her so angry.

"Kneel," she ordered, using her foot to push and kick him into the desired position anyway. Straightening the belt, she tested its weight in her hand and then, keeping him as she wanted him, she struck out at his bare back, hard and fast. The metal of the belt left behind deep, bloody groves in his skin, and the reaction it elicited in him wetted her frustration, both appeasing and fuelling it at once. Again and again she struck out, losing herself in the abuse, half smiling to herself, unaware that she'd teared up and her cheeks were slicked with moisture. Eventually she had to stop for breath, his back beyond mere injury, now undoubtedly crippling, though she would not let him use it as an excuse. Straightening, she stepped back, tossing the belt aside and admiring her handiwork. "That is what you get for being ungrateful," she said, her voice shaking slightly. "Now tell me. Tell me you appreciate all the hard work I put in for you."

Diana

"Then I suppose we can forgive him for being slow," Diana mused with a soft smile, casting her eyes over the impressionable dress her sister wore. She felt no desire herself, but understood why men and women would, and she appreciated her sisters beauty and the skill behind it. It was an art they both crafted separately and in their own different ways, but it still gave them an unspoken understanding of one another, as all twins held. "I find men are always slow anyway." Biting into an apple, she remained gazing at her sister before glancing away. "Come on, you need a new dress. That one makes you look like a slut."

Riding in on horseback so that their dresses weren't dirtied by the street, but they still got to remain on display, Diana rode with her sister into town to their favourite dress shop. Well, Sera's favourite dress shop. The tailor's daughter was cute. Diana personally found her a little drab, but she had no alternative preference, so she was happy to comply with her sister's wishes. "How do you plan on playing with both the slow prince and Gabriella?" Diana asked out of bored curiosity, stepping into the shop and looking the tailor's daughter over, who lit up upon spotting the two sisters. Diana instantly wanted to take her from Sera. Men, she didn't care about, but she didn't like other women seeing her sister undressed.

Jack

After what felt like hours of fittings, Jack finally escaped, going in search of his father. His being the king, no doubt he'd be busy, but Jack hadn't been able to stop thinking about the kingdom being in trouble. Marriage held no interest to him, for reasons he'd rather not dwell on, but if the kingdom really was in trouble... He wanted to understand, instead of being treated like the idiot son and the drop out, even if those were both things he was. At least that way when he was tied off to a woman, and expected to do things he wasn't sure he could quite do, he'd know why he was doing it. "Father?" He called, having followed directions given to him by one of the servants as he checked through the rooms.

Coal

Coal didn't want to cry. He didn't he didn't he didn't. But he did, because it hurt. It hurt so so so so so bad. His back lay open to the bone, or nearly so. He felt even more exposed. Caroline wouldn't just stop at exposing him naked, no. She had to open him up, not even his inside, his very blood was his anymore. Nothing, was private and none of him was sacred. No one could stop her.

No one could stop her.

He should have known this for a long time, it was life changing and hallowing to admit it. There was no one there, no one to stop her or tell her enough is enough. He wasn't human, and he did not live for himself. He was her's and only lived to be hers. And he would die when she wanted him to. She would never allow him any freedom not even the freedom of death. He looked up into her eyes. Into that dark soul, the wickedness, the sneer and the blackness.

"I appreciate it. I appreciate all you do for what it is mama."

".......and every

time the clock strikes, I will come myself and call, and if you then

give me no answer, to-morrow morning you shall be put to death, but

if you always give me an answer, you shall have her to wife...... "

Even the grim brother's gave their stories happy endings.

Sera

Sera absolutely detested riding. She could not tell you why, she just did not enjoy the way she had to trust her horse, a filthy animal, the way it moved beneath her, the way it smelled. So when he sister turned to ask after her she was scowling deeply. She turned to face her.

"mmm, to be honest Gabriella will likely be taken care of by tonight, I have already played her dear sister, I need only to collect my winnings. The prince will be none the wiser." She smirked, "I did say he was slow, he has such little...... Manhood." she said the word in disgust as if the idea of the thing implied the taste of it. "My thoughts are that he is not a man at all, but a women trapped in there." She laid her hand over her heart, allowing the tailors daughter a gasp. "Poor, girl she has one of those things and does not know where to put it!" She turned to the dressmakers daughter. Hand planted firmly over her heart. "What color do I look most modest in. For the love of all gods do not say pink. Or yellow. Or red. Blue?" She turned to her sister dropping her hand slowly from her chest to give the poor dressmaker some relief. "Sister does purple suit me? You look dashing in black..."

Henry

Father turned to son. Piper copied her master, getting up to greet Jack she sniffed him and paced back towards Henry. He was in the draft room, where all the plans speeches and maps were created, on the wooden table beside him lay several pieces of parchment, a dance speech, a thank you speech, a speech of welcome and a speech of charity. As well as his revisions to security that night. "Ah, Jack. How did your fittings go? What has your mother been over with you about tonight?" As piper lay down head on feet Henry turned to shuffle his papers about to retrieve the match list, of who Jack should focus his time on. By the look on his sons face however he was not here to go over the list of rich girls he must choose from.
