first order navigator & pilot
noise hummed around her; people talking, traipsing the ship, messing with buttons and radios... the expanse of space provided nothing but emptiness, so while the hum of electronics and people was a comfort, gen couldn't help but feel like she was losing it once in a while. she guessed it was too much of a good thing. her hand rested softly upon a screen directly in front of her; the surrounding buttons all the same. gen wondered how she'd learned what they all meant so quickly considering there were hundreds. her fingers dragged along the surface, noticing it's familiar smoothness as she peered into the image it displayed. the grid showed a few plainly rendered ships up ahead, which currently posed no threat. they were accompanying the main Star Destroyer, and she'd learned them well. by now gen was used to spotting enemy craft. with no concerns ahead she took a moment to lean back in her seat. as she did so she noticed the way her spine straightened; a hint of soreness present in the vertebrae. her hands came to fold in her lap, and she sighed. the exhale felt just as good as the inhale and she wished she could up and leave. her job wasn't boring by any means necessarily, but on quiet days she sure wished she could have been doing something else. it was too bad they didn't let her fly the cool ships. she was much more versed in piloting than navigating, but the two weren't much far off as it was.
gen took a chance at closing her eyes. her superiors weren't around last time she checked, and oh did she need a moment of darkness. stillness. kylo ren. his face often popped into her head when she didn't need him to. the pale white of his skin, stark in contrast to the rest of him. those deep brown eyes inlaid into a bold yet soft face. she remembered the way he looked when she caught sight of him through a crack in the door. several weeks ago. she'd been retiring late and he happened to take him helmet off-- probably assumed no one else was around. for fear of being cut in two the woman hadn't told anyone. she wondered if anyone else knew what he looked like. at first thought, probably general hux, but a woman? surely not. while she was on the subject of kylo, she wondered almost absently if he had a girl in his life. romance didn't strike her as something ren would have time for. there was so much she didn't know about the people around her. the generals were all mysterious and unapproachable, and her colleagues were equally robotic. gem often found herself making the first move or initiating conversations.

she nearly jumped out of her skin. on instinct her hands flew to her headset and adjusted the microphone, nodding as she opened her eyes to meet those of one of her superiors. he wore a stern expression that could burn holes through steel.
"Sorry sir. It won't happen again."

luke fidgeted nervously as he waited for han to return from whatever he'd been doing. he claimed he had some last minute business to finalize before they could retrieve the cargo. luke assumed it was something important, but he couldn't have put much more energy into thinking about it if he tried. as it was, han's smuggler-bounty hunter-pirate business made him nervous. eventually luke replaced the metal object he'd been playing with back where it had been sitting and stood up. it had been at least twenty minutes, and han often said that if he was gone for too long, to just leave with the falcon. han would find his way out of whatever bind he'd put himself in if he weren't already dead.
luke hated to get too involved but he would anyways. he couldn't just abandon his friend-- if he could even call solo that. moving towards the exit luke snatched the coat that had been draped over his seat and shrugged it on. to luke's relief, it took little time to find him. han had been busy with something not far from the ship, and as luke approached he understood that they were about ready to pick up the bounty. he slowed as he neared the other man, simultaneously placing his hands on his hips in a casual manner.
"wasting time, han?"
luke commented with plain amusement. his anxieties were quelled by having found his companion, if not for a little while. the actual pickup would be another story, but luke reassured himself that everything would go fine. the stress they were under as it was was enough to bleed into every other part of life.

kylo ren
ilum was reported to be colder than usual. they had just landed the supremacy onto the frosty planet for its bi-monthly inspection and kylo was already dreading leaving the warmth of the ship. as they came to a sudden halt landing on the launch pad, kylo peered out a nearby window and spotted a few stormtroopers rush over to greet them, as well as one of his advisors.
the bridge released with a screech and in came the cold air. the metal soles of his boots clinked against the surface of the hollow bridge as he stepped down. dreadful really, he hated the cold. "supreme leader." his advisor, kavos, welcomed him with a smile that didn't reach his eyes.
maybe it was the frequency, but kylo really grew to hate the formalities. of course, he'd never say that out loud, but it sure did get monotonous. "kavos." he replied flatly. "i presume the maintenance will start now?"
the shorter man bowed yes and lead him over to the base. kavos led the crew down to a smaller ship, temporary and a little shabby. hux got on before him to set the coordinates on the navigator, they were to stay on the star destroyer until everything was completed.
it took around 30 minutes to launch and proceed into hyperspace, but it seemed to take much longer for them to reach the damn thing. hux was complaining the entire time, and kylo did his best to dull his voice out. finally, after a few more restless minutes, the ship connected to the star destroyer and opened up to its corridors.
the captain's quarters. kylo saw a girl he recognized and a man who was stout and bearded. "aron." hux addressed him before he could.
he bowed ever so slightly and fixed the patch crooked patch on his uniform. "supreme leader, general hux. welcome to our fleet. when do you expect the supremacy's completion?"
"so eager to see us go?" kylo didn't even realize he was being snarky until hux raised a brow. then began the fumbling and mumbling.
"no, no sir! of course not, we welcome you on our ship anytime—" kylo tuned him out and slid the helmet off his head, the cool air hitting his face. at least this ship was well ventilated.

for a second, aramina thought there was a slug on her back until the smell of iron filtered into her nose. it was her own blood trickling down from when the man hit her in the head. "ass!" she spat at him. the yellow of his teeth seemed to glisten under the dim light of the port.
they were on a the docks of desolate harbor in an unfamiliar planet, and the combination of saltwater and blood made her sick. she could just barely make out the reflection of herself in the water, frail and bloody. her right eye was covered in a ring of black and there was an open wound scaling across her cheekbone to her chin.
"ass i am. but i'm gonna be a rich ass after i sell you off."
sell? so she'd be some rich bastard's perverted toy? or maybe something worse, something deadly. more than ever did aramina wish to be in the calming presence of her father. hell, maybe even back on coruscant. anywhere but here.

"we're going to kamino. boy, do i hate water planets." his furry friend agreed with him. call it crazy, but he just hated anything to do with water aliens. "at least we're getting a nice check, huh?"
luke looked, well, stressed wasn't exactly the world. the boy was a hero, a 'chosen one', he had enough riding on his shoulders already. for a moment, solo nearly put his cocky persona aside and recognized the fact that maybe luke shouldn't come with them.
sure, the first time he mentioned the 'mission' to luke, he called him a pansy for wanting out, but just as he opened his mouth to say what he was thinking, chewie started the ship.

[/div] [/div] [/div] [div class=right] [div class=scroll] gen had inspected each corner of the ship's exterior through the screen in front of her, which was connected to several cameras scattered among the ship. they were soon landing, seemingly headed for an ice planet that she recognized as ilum. it was their base, as one would expect. the first order really needed to drive home their cold and emotionless aesthetic didn't they? she let her hands fall from the navigation keypad and observe as they landed. the pilots in their section knew what to do as they neared the atmosphere, and then began to ease towards the surface. gen lifted her chin to peer through several windows that lined three adjacent sides of the room they were in. all around them were flurries of white. she couldn't make out anything in particular through the haze of snow and frigid air that stormed around the ship. as it made contact with the surface, she listened for the engines to power off, and the subsequent bustle of people more important than her. greeting the supreme leader was no joke, though she did think it a little frivolous. what did kylo ren do anyways? from what she heard he was prone to fits of rage, and didn't hesitate to cut someone down if they crossed him. in that light, gen wondered why she was drawn to him in the first place. as her thoughts were pulled from the present moment the woman felt a pang of shame at feeling such a thing. she was a self respecting woman fantasizing helplessly about a violent man in a helmet-- oh no-- the voices quieted and she grew aware of massive boots hitting the floor. next, her eyes moved to it's source, recognizing immediately his form. wait-- he was here? gen couldn't pull her eyes away. in the meantime she searched her thoughts for things they'd been recently briefed on. ren visiting their fleet was definitely something she should have-- and likely would have remembered. nevertheless, he was here on important business, and she intended to not trouble her superiors any more than necessary. with that gen would straighten up and lean in a tad, observing the scene that played out with a smirk playing on her lips. it was funny how they all lost their cool around him even if he hadn't done anything to warrant their fear necessarily. all it took was a few words and he had every general in the palm of his hands. and then he took off the helmet. luke wanted to be soothed by han's words, but his delivery was never polite. he understood, though, that what they were doing was necessary.
this was han's livelihood, and it wasn't like being part of the rebellion payed anything. descending the corridor, luke plopped down in the seat
beside han, looking out through the geometric panes of glass lining the cockpit. kamino sounded familiar, but he didn't dwell. it was probably

roar and brought the ship to life he could only glance over with hints of a smile on his lips. his eyes held uncertainty among other things, but he
attempted to think good thoughts as they took off. their surroundings promptly began to shrink as the ship caught air and then rose higher. pretty
soon the planet's surface was a pebble in a sea of blackness; speckled with stars. after several minutes luke felt the need to fill silence. han was
reserved most of the time, but on missions he could be a loud mouth, as was chewie. luke couldn't say it didn't annoy him but in times of anxiety
he sure did like to be stuck with han's ramblings. anything was better than the mute noise of space. finally he replied to han's earlier comment.
"yeah, hope so. hey, do you ever get extra if you're hurt on the job or something? what do they call it-- compensation?"
luke scoffed, thinking it was a tough job to do what han did as-is. he risked his life every day, but apparently it's what he loved.
