Plot.
LPOLYMER, an indie rock band from the midwestern United States, are riding high after the unexpected success of their latest album, "Loose Teeth". Formed in 2003, these previously unknown twenty-somethings achieved a modest level of fame after their newest lead single was featured in an independent film, which ended up making waves at festivals and getting a full theatrical release. POLYMER has since enjoyed unprecedented airplay and sales, and these bandmates are about to embark on their first U.S. tour.
What the fans don't know is it might also be their last.
Tensions within the band have been steadily rising alongside their success, and being cooped up together in a couple of Volkswagen vans for two months might not be the best way to cool things down. Will the band survive taking their act on the road? Or will their first tour end up being a farewell?

Hello! I'm Sagewort (formerly Buho) and this is a dramedy RP set in 2006 and inspired by mid-2000s MySpace music scenes, the real and messy drama between emo bands Taking Back Sunday and Brand New, and the song If This Tour Doesn't Kill You, I Will by PUP.

Lead Guitar

"The thing I'm most excited about? Honestly, probably just getting in touch with the music, y'know? I haven't been in the band as long as everyone else so I'm still learning and getting to know the songs and all those hours on the road are gonna be good for just, like, zoning out and getting deep into the tracks. I feel like that's what it's really all about, right? Everybody gets all in their heads about the rock star life touring thing, like going out and getting trashed and everything and I guess that's cool for them, but it should really just be about the music. That's what I think anyway."
Rhythm Guitar
open
"I guess what I'm looking forward to the most is reconnecting with the band and everything. It's been, like, six months since I hurt my hand and we had to get a new lead guitar and I just feel like I've had to re-learn how to play and how to put on a good show and all that. It's been kinda good for me, I would say, but going on tour is definitely gonna be challenging and so, I just want us to settle into a flow and find a new rhythm- Wait, I swear that wasn't supposed to be a pun, I swear to God."
Bassist
open
"I genuinely can't pick the thing I'm the most excited about, I'm being completely serious. There's so many things I'm stoked about, I've been talking about it non-stop for weeks. It's a tour, dude! Anything could happen. I've never been to any of these cities and I don't even know what to expect. I feel like I can't even focus during practice half the time! Which is pretty bad! No, but seriously, I'm really looking forward to it, it's gonna be sick."
Synth/Keys
open
"Listen, I'm excited for exactly 27 things on this tour, and that's the shows, ok? We're pulling out all the stops on this thing, ok, I'm talking crowd surfing, fireworks, lasers, fake blood, I wanna come out hooked up to some wire, I wanna fly out over the crowd, right? I'm not even joking, dude. I just got these new pedals that I'm gonna put on my vocals, it's like alien, like warbly, distorted but like smooth at the same time, y'know? I've got chills just thinking about it right now. I'm gonna do this thing where I like do a handstand and play the keys with my feet--"
'We're not actually letting them do that."
"--I swear to God, I'm gonna do it."
Drummer
Closed
"What I'm most excited for on this tour.... Ummm..... Probably the green rooms, haha. And the free beer. The van naps... I think we might do a couple after-parties too, so that'll be cool. Yeah, I guess I'm pretty excited."
Entour-roadies
open
"Yeah, I'm really excited for everything, honestly! My girlfriend's actually in the band but she said I couldn't come unless I learned how to wrap cable cause they don't have space for an entourage in the van."
rules
rules.
rule one.
Follow all RPN rules
rule two.
The mid 2000s was certainly a different time, in terms of mainstream representation and inclusion of marginalized people. Those issues are welcome to exist in this RP, as long as they 1. don't get too heavy, and 2. relate directly to your character. For example, you can bring up homophobia as it affects your character, a gay person existing in 2006 America, but you may not bring up racism as it affects someone else's character or an NPC without discussing it OOC first and getting permission. This is to prevent the RP from getting too heavy, personal, or upsetting to take part in.
With that being said, just because we MOSTLY associate indie rock with white cis straight men doesn't mean our characters have to all be one type of person. Feel free to create characters from all walks of life and experiences!
rule three.
In the same vein as rule #2, alt spaces at this time (including the newly budding online spaces) were also full of very personal expression, especially relating to mental illness. It's a common topic in rock music in general, and I imagine it'll come up. Please feel free to include topics related to mental illness in your characters and plots related to them if you want to, but remember not to get too dark, too graphic, or too potentially triggering. Discussing OOC before bringing heavier stuff into the plot is a big plus.
rule four.
Keep the drama IC only plz
