With his laptop and his cell phone long forgotten somewhere else in the cabin, Wesley couldn't help but feel a sense of renewed self. For the last five years, his only goals in life had been career-based. For the most part, he didn't care about maintaining relationships or friendships. Hell, he had even cut many ties with family members, or only talked to them if he absolutely needed to. Of course, there were some people he kept in contact with. Cameron, for one, and Whitney and Parker every now and again. His parents only called him for business purposes or the required holiday dinners. His grandparents were gone. Coworkers were only people he worked with. Hell, even the guys from college were more so his employees now than his friends. It was a lonely life he led. But it was the life he chose, his way to the top, to achieve what he thought were his goals and dreams. Or what he told himself were his goals and dreams anyway. But, Anna knew what he really wanted out of life, even if he didn't.
Wesley looked up to see Cam and Jace return to the room and, though her nose was red as if she'd been crying, she looked happy. Maybe Jace wasn't all that bad. Or maybe he just hadn't had a change to be terrible yet. Whatever the case,Wes would keep an eye on him. Caleb and Evelyn were dancing as well, and the brunette businessman couldn't help but grin. Despite his secret sort of friendship with Caleb, and a standard one with Evie, he had always rooted for those too. They might have been blind to it all those years, but almost everyone else could tell there was something between them. Even Ava and Parker seemed to be having a good time, dancing with one another. Wesley's only worry was Ava's husband back home. He hoped Parker knew what he was doing, that he didn't end up getting hurt.
The tempo of the music changed, and what had started as lighthearted and fun got a little bit more nostalgic and serious. Much to his surprise, Whitney wrapped her hands around his neck in typical slow dance fashion, seemingly not as shy and timid as she had once been. Maybe it was the liquid courage, but he hoped deep down it was because she wanted to be closer to him. His blue eyes met hers and he immediately smile, placing both his hands on the small of her back to pull her closer. So close, in fact, that they're bodies brushed against one another when they swayed. "I gotta say, I didn't take you for the mixtape type of girl, but you made quite a good playlist," Wes said with a lightheartedly teasing smirk. "You know, in all those teen dramas and sitcoms on TV, usually the mixtapes are made for the person they have a crush on. So tell me, Whit. Did you have a secret crush in high school? Someone important enough to immortalize in Anna's memory box?"
