The last thing she remembered was being hit by a car. Groggily she stood up from the pavement, there were people rushing over to her. She knew these people, this life. Wait, what was a car? “Your highness are you alright?” “Yes, yes I just, I think I need to lie down”. A court of maids escorted her to her quarters. A nasty bruise accompanied by a gash had started to appear across the girl's forehead. This wasn’t good, a meeting with a suitor was arranged this afternoon. How could she miss a step, she’d walked those stairs a thousand times. As she lay there hashing over a memory from what seemed to be a past life, sleep crept in.

“So are you finished with the route yet?” Her friend's voice echoed through her phone. “Huh? No, this chick that he was engaged to by force keeps getting in the way of me trying to win over the prince”. “The one who has that ugly gash across her forehead”. “Yeah, that’s her, god, does she ever just piss off”. Her friend laughed, “this is a spoiler but at the end depending on your route she either gets expelled from the kingdom or dies at the prince’s sword protecting you”. “That’s rough but she is the villain so she deserves it”.

“Your highness, Princess Melody,” a maid whispered as she gently rocked the princess awake. “We must start preparing you for your afternoon tea with the suitor your father has arranged for you”. “Right, of course”. The maid was a little taken aback by this response; the princess would usually wreak havoc upon being cordially awoken. Maybe that gash to her head had released all of her spoiltness and pent up rage.

The maid escorted her to the next room where Melody was fit into a gown befitting to her status but not too outlandish for the occasion of afternoon tea. When the princess was presented in front of the mirror though she squinted. Why do I look so familiar? “Is the dress not to your liking, your highness?” “No, I just… I look familiar”. The maid couldn’t help but let out a laugh at her unusual behaviour. That’s when it struck her, the car, the dream, the game she’d seen it all before. Before anyone could comment on her shocked look she stormed back to her bedroom, slamming the door behind her.

“Oh my god, oh my god” she stormed towards a mirror positioned on the other side of the room pulling and prodding her face “oh my god”. Maybe this was all a dream, she pinched herself.``Ouch” she whined. Why was she only remembering all this now? Oh god, the meeting, she recognised this from the prince's flashback in the game when he’s talking about his engagement to his evil fiance. “Oh he hates her, but she is me he hates me and then”, following muttering her face turned pale. “He’s going to stab me after he meets the heroine cause I try to kill her and oh my god I’m going to die young again. My second chance at life starting from the age I died at and I only have a year to live”. Melody threw herself into the bed wallowing in self pity.

There was a knock at the door, “Your majesty, he’s here”.

In the luxurious hall, a handsome young man sat with a dignified pose. Clothing make the person, and his was garment of highest quality, adorned with intricate patterns that was reserved only for the rich and powerful. A single glance would tell that he belonged to the upper classes, while a closer look would quickly brought his image in people's memory. Prince Alfred, heir of the kingdom. If the king was the most influential person, then he would be a close second. The young man had distinguished himself since birth, excelling in both martial prowess and intellectual studies, making the people held high hope for the future.

He had come of age a couple years ago, but the royal family wasn't in a rush to find a prospective partner for him. The one standing by his side would be the future queen of the kingdom, and thus the selection was strict. Only the best candidate, from most honorable of pedigree, would suffice. Today was one of such outing, to pay a visit and see his potential fiancee with his own eyes. There was no questioning about Princess Melody's lineage, so the only thing left was to witness the person herself in action.

That perfect prince... was holding a faint smile, keeping a blank facade to hide his irritation.

"My Prince, I'm still not convinced," George Levantine blurted out behind him. A trusted aide, George had followed Alfred ever since they were young. His loyalty was second to none, and his looks merely lacking the royal graciousness of his liege. If one would call it a shortcoming, perhaps it was his tendency to quickly form bias toward people. He was hasty to judge; albeit as willing to change his opinions.

"I'm sure you've heard the rumors yourself, Your Highness. It's not just the commoners. Even the nobilities had also attested for her bad conducts. Even if her status was the most suited for Your Highness, her character is..."

As a capable aide, George had noticed that the Prince was surprisingly impatient today. Even though this pretender could fake his smile against those old foggers in the court... as expected, when it was involving their personal life, even the Prince would draw a line.

"That's why, I think you should cut this visit short. As long as you reject it, I'm sure His Highness would-"

"George, that's enough," Alfred stopped him from blabbering any further. Thankfully, they had the decency to leave the room to him and his aide. Then again perhaps that was the reason why George would be so brutally honest in someone else's mansion. "This visit was arranged by His Highness, so I would have to do it. It'll be fine. If she's indeed as bad as the rumor, then I'll put a stop to the arrangement."

But he still had to go through the motion. He just wanted to finish it up and get back to the palace. There was a lot of work to do.

“He’s here?” Melody’s voice meekly rang back. “How long shall I tell them to wait for you, your highness?” Uhhh think, if you avoid this he will think he got stood up which ends in death, if you are late he will think you don’t value his time and then death. Oh my god I don’t want to die. Why has God forsaken me into this role? Melody was rolling around on her bed as thoughts zipped around in her brain. “Five minutes!!!” she yelled back. Was five minutes even enough time to collect her thoughts, fix her dress which had been crinkled from rolling around on her bed and come up with a game plan? That’s when it hit her. She already knew him. She’d played the game and won him over, which ultimately caused herself doom but that didn’t mean she couldn’t win him over as the villainess right? The main character was just a commoner with a unique magic who was friendly, stunningly beautiful, cutely naive and… Who was she kidding? Who the hell is going to like a scar faced witch.

Accepting her doom she breathed in deeply, she should avoid death and at least prepare for exile after this. At least exile wasn’t too bad, she could become a farmer, or a seamstress, maybe a cook. Hell maybe she could take up sword fighting to avoid getting stabbed like a shish kebab. It wouldn’t hurt to at least take precautionary measures, right? Feeling a new sense of hope she removed herself from her wallowing and walked to the mirror. She was finally done fixing herself up but her eyes lingered at the rather large bandage concealing her forehead. Her self confidence dipped slightly as she left the room.

She wasn’t sure why she only learnt about her past life now but she needed to use it as an advantage to plan her future of not dying; whether it was by the hands of the prince or poverty from being an outcast skill-less princess. The maid opened the door for her and she bowed her head while dipping into a curtsey. She was a princess after all, the epitome of royally trained perfection. As her father was the king of this nation, she had a reputation to uphold. She knew Alfred did too as his father was the king of another.

“My apologies for keeping you waiting for your highness”. Melody gracefully waltzed over and took a seat across from him. The Tea room was beautiful, windows, floor to heightened ceilings, lavish red drapes and only the highest quality afternoon tea served on fine china. “How would you like your tea, your Prince Alfred?” asked a maid wheeling a golden plated bar cart with an arrangement of tea pots atop it. Melody was caught up looking at the prince. He was right in front of her, she knew of him in this realm and in her last but he really was something. He could have any maiden he desired. Melody didn’t catch herself staring as her thoughts started to zap around her mind once again.

"White, no sugar," the Prince replied with his usual public smile before turning his attention to his prospective fiancee candidate. Princess Melody. Her appearance wasn't much different from the portraits, except for that rather conspicuous bandage wrapped over her head. A royalty wouldn't show up like that if they could help it, so he inferred that either the wound was too great to conceal with make-up alone, or it was something that happened so recent that they didn't have time to think up a countermeasure just yet. Most likely the latter.

"It's alright, Princess," Alfred responded. After all, no gentleman would complain even after a woman made them wait for hours, let alone a prince. "This is our first time meeting each other face to face, isn't it? Please allow me to introduce myself."

He got up in a graceful manner, and then gave her a bow.

"My name is Alfred, the first prince of the Kingdom of Westerwind. I've been looking forward to meet you, Princess."

Of course, that was all sugar-coated bullcrap. His father was the one who had pushed him to travel this far just to meet this new fiancee. As for him... the rumors had been scathing to the ears, alright? It was so bad that the royal family couldn't even control it anymore. Who would look forward to meet someone like that?

However... proper decorum still had to be followed. He finished his practiced gestures before returning to his seat.

"I'm sure that you've been informed about the reason for my visit, haven't you? If I may ask, what are your thoughts about our engagement?"

The maid started preparing tea for the both of them as she already knew the princess’s order by heart. It was a wonder her teeth hadn’t rotted out of her skull with the amount of sugars she had in her tea, it was more like sugar with a side of tea really. The maid shot the prince's attendant a kind smile, they weren’t of the same status but they were both employees. Plus, she thought he was rather charming.

Melody watched the prince's eyes dance up to her bandaged forehead and the insecurity hit her hard. The doubt of her ability to change the storyline crept in. There would be this meetings then she would move in with him, sleeping in separate bedrooms of course then the heroine came in as a maid who she would abuse. Then… then she would die. AHHHHHHH. Okay, composure bitch, you got this, zero deaths.

She stood up as he did and gave a curtsey subconsciously moving to put out her hand for him to put a kiss on it but then quickly retracting it pretending that nothing had happened. She was not up for a hand kiss right now. “I believe it is too Prince Alfred and must I say it is a pleasure”. The ways of being a lady were laser printed into the deepest depths of her subconscious, this was going to be inconvenient. “I am Princess Melody, daughter of King Low of the Bezinine Kingdom, and have also been looking forward to our meeting”. No I haven’t, I just found out about it after I gained consciousness, I had no idea. I want this to be over so I can plan better, Melody cried inside her mind.

Melody took a seat right after the prince. Well if we weren’t engaged I wouldn’t die but we’re bound to be, wait… AHAA. “I think it’s silly really, I’m sure you don’t want to be married to a stranger as much as the next person, I think really you should marry for love”. God that was all crap but potentially life saving crap. No engagement, no heroine and no death. The maid was so shocked she started to overpour the tea. “The tea” Melody said, turning to a maid who quickly bowed. “Yes, of course, I’m so sorry your highness, I’ll get it cleaned up right away”. The maid quickly started using a towel to clean up what had spilt on the floor and almost bolted out the door with the soggy bar cart. “My apologies Prince Alfred, it seems as though you may have to wait a little longer for your tea”.

Oh idea, she could gross him out too. She grabbed a small cake and shoved the whole thing in her mouth. Talking with a full mouth she asked, "How do you feel about the engagement?" Her cheeks had the likeness of a chipmunks. Winning tactics, let's go Melody!
