SYNOPSIS​

in high school, you four were the best of friends. you had your differences, sure, but at the end of the day, you were all tight knit in your own ways, even if there were some differences between one another in the group. even if you all had contrasting personalities. you were all well known in your small town, you were the popular kids for various reasons. you were loved and feared and hated all at once and you knew it. one incident changed everything though: murder.

none of you planned for it to happen. you were driving out to the beach late one night for a fun time, since graduation was only a week away. on the way back, withe everyone drunk or a little tipsy, nobody noticed the man on the middle of the road.

there was a swerve. there was a hit. the body was dumped in the ocean and you made a pact to never speak of it again. graduation came and went and you four went your separate ways.

now, almost a year later, you find yourselves back in town. maybe some of you never left. but once you’ve all gathered, just a few days before the anniversary of that fateful night, all of you get a note.

first and foremost, all rpn rules apply.

anyone can join but be aware that if i do not know you, i might ask you for a writing sample since this is a small group and there are some writing requirements.

this roleplay will require at least one response per week. there will be no posting order as such but try not to let too much happen while other people aren't around. each post must be a minimum of two - three paragraphs.

we will be using real people/celebrities as faceclaims for this.

this will more or less be decided on a first come, first serve basis. you can reserve a role, but if you have no completed character sheet up within three days of the reservation, then your spot will be open again.

as gm, anything i say goes. but hey, i'm no dictator, and i like listening to everyone, so most of the time, if a decision has to be made, it will be a majority vote. in terms of accepting characters and determining the existing situation of things, my word is law. please respect that!

> the smart girl: straight a student, dating the most popular kid in school (aka, the jock) and clearly made for good things. only after graduation they were forced to follow a different path, because some things went wrong, or maybe the straight laced girl just couldn’t wrap her mind around the possibility that she took part in a murder... after all, she was the one that wanted to go straight to the cops.

> the bad boy [ taken by eggsaladsandwitch ]: popular for beating up people that got in his way, and back answering teachers, the only one that can seem to keep his temper in check is his (now ex) girlfriend, the queen bee. he’s done some bad shit but murder definitely tops it. he already got caught for other shit so this... this was something he couldn’t afford to get found out about so he was dead against going to the cops. he didn’t have much going for him before graduation but a year later, he’s made money. the only question is... how?

> the queen bee [ taken by lanabanana ]: rich, popular, a goddess who knows what she wants. she was destined for good things too. she was crowned miss moordale (the name of the town) and she was looking forward to becoming a model or an actress, but things went wrong, an incident took place, and now she finds herself still depending on her rich father to survive. she acts like none of this has affected her but tere’s something dark beneath the surface...

> the hot jock: the guy everyone wanted to be or be with. he was smart, a star athlete, but with different wishes for his future and having a constant struggle in terms of what to pursue after graduation. it sure as hell wasn’t what he thought it would be though. he was behind the wheel, the night of the accident, and that memory plagues him even to this day. has it gotten him down a different path? or maybe he’s starting to feel differently about the whole thing now? only time will tell...

all four of you barely spoke during the summer. those of you that dated broke up because of long distance, and friendships faded to nothing, but now that you’re back again, with danger looming over all of you, old feelings are coming back, and with it, an old foe...

personality ⇢ Jay can be summed up as an emotionally-volatile pretty boy. because of his upbringing and relationship with his father, he has definite anger issues that have been left unchecked for the majority of his life. he's prone to blowing up at undeserving people as a way of getting his frustrations out, which as part of the reason that he earned his reputation in high school. understandably, he's also emotionally distant, only opening up to those he truly trusts. his (now ex-) girlfriend was the only person he felt he could open up to, and ever since their breakup, his explosive personality has increased ten-fold.
his largest struggle is his massive inferiority complex, which he, again, attempts to hid by re-directing his self-loathing. because of this, teachers and classmates saw him as a uncouth, snarky little bastard, and it brought him more trouble than it was worth. though he did poorly in school, he's much smarter than people give him credit for--he just has a talent for using his wit in all the wrong ways.

family ⇢ his mother was never around for his childhood, having left when he was just a baby, and his father has, somehow, always blamed jay for this. the two have never been close, even when jay was small. his father is a rather heavy drinker, and the two of them are prone to getting into shouting matches. physical blows were exchanged in the past, but seem to have lessened as jay grew older (or bigger, and therefore, more likely that he would be able to hold his own).
other relationships ⇢ he and his ex, [the queen bee] used to be incredibly close. while there were many factors leading to their breakup, "the incident" definitely played a large role. ever since they split, jay has been rather miserable. his friendships with [the smart girl] and [the hot jock] were forged through [the queen bee], so their breakup has definitely lead to jay isolating himself from his old friends.
brief bio ⇢ a lower-class kid from a broken home, essentially jay lived a rather unhappy life. by the time he made it to his freshman year, he had already been suspended for trying to start a "fight club," was suspected of selling drugs, and would throw down with anyone and everyone who even so much as looked at him strangely. things calmed down for him when he found his people, but of course, their lovely companionship was ended. knowing he didn't have what it took to go to college or even leave moordale, he hunkered down working at his father's body shop, reluctant about the entire aspect. any “side businesses” he runs are a desperate attempt to escape his father's hold on him, even now as a legal adult.

jameson has two extremes. she's either really nice and friendly, a ball to be around, or she's extremely moody and bitchy, and would cut anyone in her path. having been diagnosed with bipolar disorder soon after she entered her teen years, jamie always tried not to let it get to her. though she was rich, she didn't always act like it. if anything, she preferred not to flaunt that around. she has a strong sense of what is right and wrong in her mind and is guided by her own moral compass -- which isn't always a good thing because she's also incredibly stubborn so swaying her decision can be quite hard once she's set her mind to something. you wouldn't necessarily call her the school's queen. more like the ultimate sass queen, in fact. jamie doesn't fit the stereotype of the former -- not completely anyway. while she can certainly put people down if she wishes to, using her words as knives, jamie is ultimately a very friendly person who likes to try new things and meet new people. that being said, she also has her moments when she can be seen flaunting her ego above anything else.

> jamie used to be very close with her high school boyfriend julian, even if nobody ever expected the two to be together. he was one of the few people she could confide in, but their eventual break up, which was influenced by many factors, led to them not speaking to each other. jamie doesn't know about him, but she herself hasn't forgotten him, and now that she's back in town, she isn't sure how to go about with meeting him again.

in high school, jamie was one of the most loved girls. she was well known for her good looks and words like hooks. while her social life seemed like everyone's dream come true, the same could not be said for her home life, which was usually kept under wraps. jamie always wanted nothing more than to leave her home, but she couldn't, because she believed she wasn't good at anything. that meant that she wouldn't get a job after school, which meant that she would never be able to make a living on her own. all she had were the crappy pageants she was forced by her mother to enter as a child, but jamie had realised that she actually had a shot at winning many, so as much as she hated her mother, she had continued with them, even during high school. there was really only one pageant she lost, and after high school, she had wanted to join the big leagues. she was ambitious. she was optimistic. and perhaps a tad too overconfident. she had left everything behind -- her town, her beloved boyfriend, and her best friends, to try and be a star. it only came crashing down when she hardly made it past the first few rounds because of a huge fuck up, and the incident definitely played a huge role in shaping her behaviour since she left town. she had a bit of a falling out after that, which included a first time attempt with some choice drugs, as well as a shit load of alcohol, and it landed her in jail. her father fortunately came to post bail, but he only showed up to let her know that he was cutting her off. as of that day, jamie was broke, homeless, and had nowhere to go. she decided to return home one last time, under the guise of wanting to say goodbye, but in reality, she used it as an excuse to steal some shit so she could sell it and at least have some money that would help her manage for a while. she took her car and just drove, from state to state, doing different things in each place, trying to find jobs. she never told anyone except her brother of her problem, and he managed to get in touch with some people in the advertising industry, where she was given her first modelling gig. it was a huge hit and she made quite a bit of money, which she believed was enough to last a while, so she didn't go back for any more modelling jobs. that one gig alone would allude to the impression that jamie was huge and successful, but people seldom know the real truth behind it. either way, she has decided to play along with the facade people themselves have thrown on her, to seem less like a failure.

present
currently, jamie doesn't stay in one place for too long. she hits different states for various modelling gigs or small acting jobs to keep her going, though as of late, she rediscovered her love for photography, which she had been passionate about before she entered high school. she's shifted from trying to be a star to just trying to make a living by taking stunning photos and selling them. so far, it's working, but it can only get her so far.

Mena now lives in a small studio apartment, struggling to pay for that and put away a little bit of cash with what little she makes from her job. and when she's not working, she's almost always partying in some weak attempt to distract herself from her thoughts of what happened last summer. so yes, Mena parties and drinks a lot nowadays.
