Futuristic Humanity's Edge: Dark Horizons

Alsmen

Techno's Shadow
Throughout the passage of time, the Human race had always been the top dog of evolution and technology on Earth. From the first discovery of tools and fire to Humanity's first steps on the moon; the Human race had always harbored a curiosity for the things that were always just outside of their grasp; and especially the unknown. In the year 2164 the Human race discovered a world they deemed the second Earth, a world called Horizon. On this untouched world there were discoveries that defied what Humanity knew about the laws of the universe. The bulk of their questions were around the ore Magicite, better known as 'Black Gold' to the colonists of Horizon. As the questions of Humanity brought answers to the table, it also raised more serious questions, such as what Humanity's place in the universe was; an age long question asked since the dawn of man.

When the colonization period of Horizon was accelerating at an alarming rate, mankind unearthed many more deposits of Magicite, and eventually crossed paths with the Thi'Ron, an advanced alien race that had an empire spanning across the universe. The Thi'Ron Empire's technology all ran off of Magicite, and the Humans desired Magicite for it's properties. First contact between the two civilizations was anything but peaceful; with it ending with casualties on both sides. As a result, the Great Magicite Wars ensued between the Humans and Thi'Ron; with each of the three wars lasting two years. During this time, both sides invented new policies and weapons, with the Humans developing the CXE forces, and the Thi'Ron created the Inheritors; deadly automatons driven by a fully sentient AI. Ultimately, the Inheritors turned their backs on the Thi'Ron as well as the Humans and deemed both races inferior and abandoned the war effort on the eve of the third Magicite War. When the Magicite Wars ended, Humanity and the Thi'Ron Empire were at a stalemate, and only the Treaty of Y'Tull ended the wars. It stated that Horizon was to be shared among the Humans and Thi'Ron Empire, but the trade of Magicite was to be deemed illegal, and punishable by exile or death; creating a balance on Horizon.

With the Treaty of Y'Tull, order was established on Horizon. For over a century both civilizations peacefully coexisted on Horizon, abiding by the laws that the Treaty of Y'Tull. In the year 3247, all of that changed. The Inheritors returned with more advanced technologies, and sought to seek attonment for their past actions against the Humans. The Inheritors had "evolved", giving them more technological variety from the initial Inheritors that the Thi'Ron created to eradicate the Humans, in addition to this they had created a civilization with their own beliefs and culture. Eventually the Inheritors became one entity; The Inheritor Collective. The Inheritor Collective became corrupted during the process of it's assimilation, making them become ruthless killing machines bent on protecting and serving the will of the Inheritor Collective at all costs. Due to this evolution, the Inheritor Collective saw the Humans and Thi'Ron on Horizon to be a source of energy, especially those that were exposed to the Magicite that existed on Horizon. The Inheritor Collective began to harvest Humans and Thi'Ron alike and reduce them to energy to fuel their massive mechanical empire taking root in the Horizon system and beyond. The Thi'Ron numbers were few, and as a result the Inheritor Collective harvested all of them quickly; leaving the Humans on Horizon on the edge of extinction and survival, leaving them on Humanity's Edge.
