HTML Source for Sorta-Newbies

Miracleist

Bathing in dream light
So, the news about HTML is awesome. It'll be a significantly more versatile improvement over BB Code - albeit a more complicated (visually and technically) one.

I was wondering though: given that only people with 500 posts can actually edit the HTML source itself, and those without would have to work with the buttons (that are coming eventually), would it be possible for those with less than 500 posts to copy-paste the formatting for some of the fancy HTML layouts?

My concern is with the limitation of the buttons which I'm assuming would not match up visually (sometimes) to actually editing the source code itself - for example, the current sticky note's only yellow (and I presume it might actually be possible for someone hardcore enough to make a lot of other sticky note options, in terms of color or shape).

EDIT: Also, title because the 500-post thing would mean people below that number (sorta-newbie) cannot use the HTML source thingie - not without a good amount of time that is.

EDIT2: A good amount of time depending on how sporadic an individual posts - calculated using the equation: Sporadic Posting Value (SPV) = Post / Day.

It seems the copy/paste thing does work, which I was guessing it did since you could copy/paste other formatting (like fonts and font colors) even before we opened up HTML.

The 500-post limitation is because we were hoping to limit it to people who had been around a while and had some investment in the site (and therefore wouldn't want to break it or do not-nice things to other users, which is possible with some HTML tricks).  We may or may not relax it when the HTML beta is over, it depends on what we see and what coding limits, if any, we can set.

Oooh that's good to know.

And no worries about the 500-post thing, the rationale for that is pretty solid, I think. HTML as far as I know and understand has significant malicious potential in the wrong hands so that 500-post requirement is a pretty valid one - and possibly also a good way to get around the possible issue.

That limit just makes it hard for people like me to test out the HTML and such.  Perhaps - if there is a way - to adjust the permissions to allow coding test in the private workshop regardless of post count, or perhaps say 250 matching with the HP requirement?

There are a lot of editors out that which you can use online or download for free that will work perfectly for testing HTML and CSS. :)

Well, I was thinking more towards seeing how it appeared on this particular site regarding parent elements and such.  I mean, I don't believe CSS transitions are allowed for use and other such things like this: http://tympanus.net/Tutorials/BlurMenu/index.html

Have you seen @ViAdvena's signature yet? ^_^  Also, they have a really great HTML playground in the Roleplay Discussion forum.

Yeah, I was happy when I saw the transition.  But many sites seem to restrict the more advance CSS3, it's a reason why when I did CSS for dA journals it drove me nuts having to tone things down due to "blacklisted" codes that really had no reason to be (such as the filter property).
