How to deal with indecisive rpers

Okay... so I've expressed interest to a few potential partners for 1x1 rps. They dont have anything in particular in mind, and neither do I.... How do we go about settling on something? Ive given over what plots I have.... but they come back with "whatever you want I can play anything and whatever role" .... What do I do???

--This also ties into what can I do when I have a partner that is literally waiting for me to lead the rp in every aspect and merely responds to what I say happens and never puts anything of their own into the story??

The best thing to do in this sitution is to run. Tell them that you already have another roleplay planned or that you're sorry but they aren't the partner you're looking for. "Break up" with them gently then find another roleplayer.

When looking for a partner advertise what kind of partner you want first in your posts. Say something like, "Strong partner needed who will help build the roleplay as it progresses" or "Need a partner not a follower." Good luck finding a partner. What kind of roleplays are you looking for as partner in?

I have so many issues with this, as well. Usually, I try to talk them into picking a preference, but I've found that RPers who aren't certain of what they want in the first place also don't tend to provide me with RPs that I enjoy. If the RPer can't think of ways to build the story, and doesn't have preference (I try to explain it as ice cream flavors: if you had a choice between these things, which one would you pick? Yes, they're all good, but we all have favorites).

I guess I will second Broken's advice, and for yourself--just figure out things you "prefer", even if you are willing to do loads of things. Rank things! This gives your partner ideas of what you yourself like. Don't be willing to cave to the demands of others.

You might just have to take a bigger part in deciding for them. Or, put your plots in a numbered list. Make your partner roll a die. The number they roll in the plot that you two go with. They don't like it? Tough. They weren't indifferent after all.
