Idea HOMO LUDENS: Julian's Roleplays

Hi everyone,

I understand that the blog function may not be available after the upgrades, so basically I'm looking for somewhere to publicly display info/updates on RPs that I have created. This is partly for my own reference, partly so I can show them off and partly so I have somewhere to direct people if they want to know more about my RPs.

I'm not sure where exactly to store such info once the blogs are gone, and interest checks don't quite feel like the right place. So I'm going to post a general directory here, and link to relevant pages in the RP forums. Wish me luck, and if anyone has suggestions for a better place/way to store such info let me know! Info on my RPs will follow in the next posts.

As per RPN rules, my RP and characters belong to me* and characters belong to their respective creators.

*they are largely collaborations though, esp. in 1x1 scenarios.

Roleplays

Revenge of the Lioness

A medieval fantasy loosely based in the Tamora Pierce novels, following a group of pages training to be Knights, one of whom is secretly a girl.

Part one: Follows the pages (1x1 with @sealdust via PM)

Part two: Picks up the story once they have become squires (1x1 with sealdust on boards) link:

Time Travellers

A fantasy/SciFi/historical adventure that follows a group of time travellers. Currently in in the form of separate but overlapping 1x1 RPs. Depending on how the 1x1 RPs go they might become part of the same overarching lore or bits may be ret-conned.

Travellers and Cyborgs: following the murder of his father, the disappearance of his sister and the theft of his father's time-machines, traveller Will Sprint and his associate Algernon travel to the future to investigate and end up accidentally abducting a cyborg (1x1 via PM with @Sibelle Grey)

Think Downton Abbey, but with time-travelling Bolshevik lesbians: Time-traveller Nadia is back at the turn of the century, and hating it. Nadia has found a Guild family with a possible connection to Ruthy Sprint's disappearance, and an unexpected opportunity to infiltrate the family via the eldest (spinster) daughter Alice. (1x1 via PM with @LyssiNae)

Murder in Manchester: It is an ordinary night in 1980s Manchester, and Clark and Bridget are just trying to round off a hard day's study with a pint when they are interrupted by the appearance of strange girl in a state of extreme distress. Of course, despite Clark's protests, goodhearted Bridget would not countenance leaving the young lady to fend for herself... But what could the consequences be for taking her in? And what exactly is she running away from? (1x1 via PM with wichtlein wichtlein )

I've never done the character theme song thing before, but- as corny as it feels to me- I've listened to this Minuit album recently and the whole thing resonated quite strongly with my time travel roleplay (minus the corny bit of nationalism half way through the album).

The first song especially struck a chord, hence one character having her named tweaked to Ruthy :)

Sibelle Grey Sibelle Grey a couple of songs reminded me of Eve too, hope that's not too nerdy a thing to say.

Sibelle Grey Sibelle Grey off the top of my head, Queen of the Flies had a dark, cyborg-y feel to me, and the question "who am I..." seemed pertinent. Let me know if any of the songs strike a chord with you! (music pun lolololol)

I usually wait until I'm relatively sure a RP will last before posting it on here, but I have just started one that I named Dandy in the Underworld (I always name them more or less on a whim).

Here's the song it's named after (as you were probably aware, Pretzel Heart Pretzel Heart )

Time-travelling friends,

I was lying awake last night thinking about death (as I do). I was trying to solve the problem of whether time-travel essentially renders one immortal, and how to get around that (it shows how little thought I have put into these paradoxes, that this is the first time I have really wrestled with this problem).

I can think of a few purely literary ways to get around that (by imposing arbitrary rules). The most effective one I can think of is that once you have died in one timeline, you cannot live beyond that age in any timeline. So if you were to whisk someone away to another timeline prior to their death, they would die at the same age anyway. It doesn't really make sense in a logical way, but narratively it works.

The other question is, then... How do you avoid learning the date/age of your death, if you are a time-traveller (and are friends with other time travellers)? It could certainly be a "rule" that you can't tell someone about their own death, and it seems just common decency not to do it to me... Still, it must be strange for Guild Members (for instance), sometimes meeting younger versions of people they know to have died. Maybe that's part of the reason the Guild are so ghoulish.

Thoughts for the day :)
