Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry

Thomas hadn't been able to believe his eyes when his Hogwarts letter came, all sorts of questions had formed in his head. Wizards? Witches? And he was one of them? He had so many questions that he didn't know where to start, and if he ever could possibly even ask them then he was sure no one would have the time to answer all of them. Everything had been prepared, his robes bought, his books and cauldron, he even got his wand. His wand was 12 inch, reasonably supple, dragon heart string core made from walnut wood. He already had Clock, his scruffy old rat that was past it's years and marching on to the afterlife cluelessly. His grandfather had been just as surprised as he was when he had found out, almost had a heart attack the poor man, but he had let him go.

With everything prepared, Thomas was stood on platform 9 and 3/4 (it had taken some convincing to get him and his grandfather to run through a brick wall) with a slight tugging sensation in his stomach. His grandfather, a tall man with a long grey beard, was crouched and looking into the dark brown eyes of Thomas, his slender and wrinkly hands placed firmly on his shoulders. "Tommy," he began with the nickname that he had given Thomas a week after taking custody of the temperamental and stubborn six year old, "You be a good boy, you hear?" His face was stern, his mouth drawn into a tight straight line and his eyes unblinking, and slightly cloudy due to age. While he may have seemed like a strict old man to an outsider, in the small circle of his family, Hubert Reid was merely holding back emotion. "And you write to me too, boy. Don't you think because your aren't around anymore I won't be wanting to hear what you had for breakfast." He says and cracks a smile, while Tommy vigorously nods his head. He had never been so great at goodbyes.

The train whistles loudly, last call for people to get onboard, last chance to say goodbye. Tommy frowns and looks down at his small feet, before he looks into Hubert's eyes. "I'm going to miss you," he says quickly, and Hubert shakes his head and grins.

"Nonsense, you'll forget about me in no time, now go! You'll miss the train if you keep talking to me," he says, before slapping his shoulder playfully and standing up. He towered over Tommy. It wasn't that he was freakishly tall, but a sixty something year old man usually would tower over an eleven year old who was small for their age. Tommy bit his lip and quickly hugged his grandfather, for the last time until he came home for Christmas. A warm smile plays on Hubert's lips as Tommy grabs Clock's cage, and his suitcase, before checking his pockets to make sure that his wand was there. Unable to find it, Hubert laughs slightly and hands his grandson the wand, which he had tucked neatly into the pockets of his trench coat earlier, in fear that Tommy would lose it.

With a final look back and a final smile, Tommy jumped onto the train and began to search for somewhere to sit, before coming across an empty compartment which had a large window that clearly showed him his grandfather, who had a grin on his face, and watery eyes. Tommy abandoned his things, grinning widely and waving at his grandfather through the glass. He had never been so excited, afraid, and nervous, in his short life. What adventures awaited him at Hogwarts?

Tamsin couldn't believe her eyes! All around her was magic, a magical train, a hidden platform, tons of witches and wizards.got her letter on the first of July. Rachel got the mail as usual, and was surprised to see a rather large envelope addressed to Tamsin. That morning at breakfast, they opened the letter together, curious of its contents. The letter dropped onto the plate of muffins, as they looked to each other in disbelief. How was this possible? Witches don't exists! They soon found out how wrong they were.

They stood together on platform 9 3/4 saying their goodbyes. Tamsin clutched Noctis, her new black kitten, to her chest. There were so many people! Rachel and Olivia wrapped her into a large hug. "Tamsin, we hope you have an amazing time at school" Olivia said, squishing Tamsin into another hug. "Don't forget to write, we want to hear all about your school, even the most trivial things, we want to hear." Tamsin smiled through the tears, she didn't want to go! She wanted to stay home with her mom's! Rachel crouched down, grabbed Tamsin by the shoulders and said, "Tamsin, it's okay to be scared, we will miss you but we want you to have all the fun you can okay?" Rachel wiped away her tears and wrapped her into yet another hug. The train wistle blew announcing the last call for boarding, "Now go on, it looks like it's time to get on board." Olivia said leading her toward the train. Tamsin looked toward her moms, faked a smile and gave a wave, before loading her trunk. What would Hogwarts be like? Would she like it there? What amazing new things would she learn? These questions followed her as she boarded the train.

Every compartment was filled by the time she was on board. She came across a compartment with only one person inside. She tapped on the door and asked, "Hey, can I sit in here with you?"

Thomas turned around quickly and excitedly, seeing a girl around his age with tan skin and black hair. His almost sad expression stretched into a wide and warm grin as he nodded his head, glad to have the company on the long train ride to Hogwarts. "Of course you can," he says, "Come on in." He didn't look at her for too long, though, and instead turned and faced the window again, hearing the trains loud scream as it started to roll away from platform nine and three quarters.

Thomas looked out of it, his hand pressed against the window slightly as he saw his grandfather get further and further away. He waved frantically out of the window, sad to be leaving his ageing grandfather behind, and sort of worried as to how he would cope without him. Not Thomas, but Hubert. He was getting ever older, and his eyesight and hearing weren't like they used to be. He worried that something would happen, and without Thomas there he wouldn't be able to fix it. But he cast those thoughts from his head as the entire station disappeared from view, and he slouched back into his seat, before realising that his belongings were taking up the entire seat in a messy pile, his rat cage on top and slightly askew. Poor Clock didn't know what was going on.

Thomas quickly stood up and sorted out his things, stacking them neatly and standing Clock's cage upright. He looked into the beady eyes of his rat and narrowed them. He hated Clock. He really did. But Hubert had insisted that, if he couldn't be there, then Clock would have to be. So Thomas would have to put up with him until he died. Which, in honesty, he hoped was soon, and probably would be. Tommy sat back down in his seat, and looked at the girl who he was sharing a compartment with. Maybe she would be his first friend!

"What's your name, by the way? Mines Thomas, Thomas Reid." He says, and extends a hand for her to shake.

"Tamsin, Tamsin Bennett" She said as she sat down on the seat across from him. "Thank you for letting me join you" she said as she sat her knapsack on the seat beside her. Noctis wiggled from her place in Tamsin's arm and made a bed out of her knapsack. "Oh right, and this is Noctis" she added as she gave the cat a small pat. She looked out the window hoping to catch a glimpse of her moms, but the train station was too far away for her to see them. She sat back in her seat and moved Noctis, who was now a sleeping ball of fur, onto her lap. She opened her bag and pulled out a book. She always felt more comfortable with a book. She hoped this train ride would go fast.

Thomas smiled and looked at the cat. He wished he could have a cat. They did more than rats did. He points at Clock's cage, unsure whether or not Tamsin was listening, "that's Clock." He lowers his hand and looks at her, and at the book in her hands. "Whatcha reading?" He asked curiously, he only had his school books in his bag, and wasn't sure whether or not that was one of them. His grandfather had packed his suitcase, so he couldn't really be sure. He looks out of the window while he waits for a response, watching as the trees zipped by quickly, he loved watching them. It almost sent him into a daze. When he was a lot younger, her grandfather had been able to take him on lots of trains, and he always loved watching as the world went by.

She smiled, glad he was starting a conversation because she really didn't know how. "The Three Musketeers" she said smiling. It was her favorite book! She looked at Clock and said, "I can put Noctis in her cage if you want to get Clock out." She didn't care for rats, but thought it would be nice to let him have his pet out since he was sitting here first.

"No way. He's just annoying and he makes weird noises. Besides, cats are cuter." He says and smiles at her, then looks at her book, nodding his head a little, "I don't think I've ever read that, actually," he admits, "but my grandfather has a big bookcase at home, I bet you it's on there. I'll have a look when I go back, at Christmas." He was already starting to get a little talkative, and was practically sat on the edge of his seat so that he could see the book properly. "What's it about?" He asks, curiously.

She let out a relieved chuckle, she really hated rats. She smiled and said, "Oh it's wonderful, its about a young man named D'Artangnan who becomes a lieutenant of the Musketeers and makes friends with three other Musketeers, and they go on adventures to save the kingdom. It's truly lovely." She loved talking about books!

Thomas grins and nods his head as she explained. "It sounds like it could be very adventurous. I should read it at some point. My favourite book is... Well, actually I think it's hard to pinpoint a favourite book. Because one day it could be one thing but then the next I might change my mind. My favourite book at the current moment is... Hmm. I'll have to get back to you on this, I think." He turns and looks out of the window, furrowing his eyebrows slightly as he tried to think.

She smiled and chuckled, she could definitely relate. "That's okay my favorite book changes all the time, last week it was The Little Princess" she said trying to reassure him.
