Well, there is this faint scar on Jax's bottom lip from the time he decided to get into a fist fight two days after getting it pierced. Needless to say, there is no lip ring.

The type of style Jax is know for looks like an emotion fueled grunge without the band tees. He wears flannel for comfort and his jeans are only distressed to a point of subtlety. He's had the same pair of Dr. Martens boots and trashed sneakers since he was halfway through freshman year. Jax prefers it this way. When he is forced to dress up, its usually a dark toned vest and shirt combo, sleeves rolled up, and finished with a pair of chinos. But, good luck getting him in the mood. If you catch him at home, he'll most likely be in a pair of sweats and a muscle tank. And why not? It's relaxing.

He's typically the one in the corner, with face twisted into a brood and a cigarette in one of his hands. For some reason, Jackson cannot bring himself to relax around his peers. You can almost feel the edge of analytical insecurity in his stare. He takes Xanex for it but that only turns down the volume on the internal scrutiny he approaches life with. When he does speak, it can come off a little crass. He has tried time and time before to explain that he doesn't try to be purposely vindictive, but it all still manages to fall flat.
More often than not, you'll see him scribbling on the nearest piece of paper. Jax is constantly translating his feelings into flowing poetry that he sings to. Acoustic guitar is his style. If only he had the nerve to play for anyone other than himself. His parents haven't even heard him yet, which is a surprise considering they take interest in all aspects of his life.
Jackson has learned to live with his diagnosis. Manic Depression wasn't a hereditary issue with either side of his parentage. It's been a step by step process to get to the point that he is at. The wavering highs and lows are still as tremendous as they've ever been. But now that there is an expectation to his triggers, Jackson is starting to feel like he can brace the impact a little sturdier every time.

The fear that his mental disposition will stave off any chance of him being taken seriously in future endeavors.
The fear that his loved ones will eventually turn away from being worn down by his brash moments.
And there is a fear that affects his faith as well. Jackson isn't religious at all. His ideals of God are this--if a force would bestow the affliction of being so anchored down by one's own emotion on a level where hope is nothing but a wisp of nonsense to not only him, but millions of people, without any cause whatsoever, then is that force really benevelont at all?

Jax tries with an almost superhuman effort to remain as meek as possible. Few words are ever exchanged in conversation while doing tasks like group projects or oral dictations. Even less when just trying to strike up small talk. He's been labeled by others as "off" or "the odd one out". That really isn't a bother to Jax. For the most part it is a truth and he knows it.

Jackson Garrott Ridley was born a healthy baby boy. His parents, Dean and Monica, were good and honest people. They brought their son up to acknowledge the right and wrong things in life, as well as how to assess the gray areas. His father was home only as much as a hard working accountant could be, and his mother had shifted out of a career as a first-grade schoolteacher into a housemother with no regrets. With love and dedication, their family was built solid.
It was around the time Jackson entered the 7th grade when the condition reared its ugly head. Jax was naturally a quiet and bookish sort. He began noticing that he would be overly energized and full of spunk ever so often, only to end up really dragged down by almost everything. At first he'd started staying home not speaking about it when the moods came up. The bottle seemed endless and he really did not want to bring attention on himself, for it would make the feelings worse by ten-fold.
It was when he was in his freshman year of high-school when he finally cracked...hard. It was a stray derogatory comment, one that he'd usually just brush off. But, that time he didn't. Instead, Jax found relief in his fists. The fight wasn't long, but the hysterics and wildness was enough to land him wwith a referral to a local behavioral health clinic. It took some time for Jackson to admit he had a problem. To him, this was normal. To him, it was his fault for allowing himself to feel that way. But eventually, the strain of keeping himself together was to the point where it was all consuming. He relented and began seeking treatment.
After about a year or so of trying different medication dosages and centering himself, Jax began to feel like he had a grip on life again. He kept at anticipating his emotions rather than trying to emulate a false sense of happiness. It has been a tiring obstacle for him and his family, and it probably would be for the rest of his life. But, with help, he is finding that his will can be much stronger than his condition.

Freja was always the last on the court; the one that teams would squabble over because she really was just that bad. Not particularly a bad person, but "bad" as in a sense that no one really liked her and no one wanted to associate themselves with her. She understood (somewhat) that they probably did it to protect their precious reputations and not be at the bottom of the pit with her. The worst part was that she really didn't do anything wrong to fall so far off the ladder. It began towards the end of her primary school years, when everyone started to realize that she wasn't quite the prettiest or most popular in the class. Then, as it happens, most of the students had graduated and moved to the same high school with her, bringing their hateful attitudes with them. Although puberty had been the best fairy godmother, and she overcame appearance issues, they didn't let up and she was still the weird girl. So, the furthest table, seat closest to the teacher and the front seat of the bus all became her safe haven.
