Hey guys! I'm -book-dragon- but feel free to call me whatever you want, haha (although I usually go by Vid). I'm not super new to role-play however most of the role-play I have done in the past has been super sexual gross stuff and honestly? I'm kind of sick of it and I'm definitely ready to start doing more /proper/ role-plays with actual plots and characters that will interest me! I'm huge into fantasy and slice of life scenarios however I'm down for pretty much anything. I've never tried a group role-play before so I don't really know how they work however one on one is awesome and I can't wait to start a few!

I'm on the same boat as you actually. I had a bunch of people who I used to rp with that, no matter the topic or type of role play, always made it about romances. It got tiring knowing that any good idea went to waste and was always pushed aside for forced relationships.

Yeah it's super frustrating especially when there is a really interesting storyline that you and your partner are playing and it just gets ignored in favour of the (kinda lame) romance subplot. Makes me lose interest really quick

It's a whole new level of sad when the person who spent all this time setting up a cool scenario and world in an introduction is the same person who also just uses it for playground romance.

They'd set up an entire scenario where two countries are at war, but completely ignore it for the most part when they make characters from the opposite alliance hook up. At most they'll mention it in passing with some dismissed line of, "My father wouldn't like this" or something equally as lame.

Oh God that is the worst! I remember spending like at LEAST a week with this one person setting up a really great background to the role-play and our characters and everything only for it to turn romantic within one day of actual role-play. And to make it worse the two characters had absolutely no chemistry at all - it was meant to be an adventure style fantasy with my character enslaving the other but somehow turned into romance/sex. If I'm honest I just messaged my partner saying I couldn't do the role-play for whatever reason and then left :/

Man, that's pretty sad. That's a lot of dedication to just being wasted. At least in my group, people spent at most a couple hours coming up with the setting of the roleplay and just threw together some generic character that'd be forgotten about a week after the role play died out.

Good on you for getting out of it though. I stuck around way longer than I should have in my group, even though they obviously considered me an outcast.

Well hopefully you will find some better role-plays on this site! What sort of role-play do you generally go for?

Oh man I totally agree. Sometimes the world building is way better than the roleplay itself haha. I love fantasy as well!

Dude, nice. Do you have any particular preference towards a certain type of fantasy?

I'm more into mid to high kind of fantasy person, but I do love almost all of the branches of fantasy I've come across.

I'm definitely more into high fantasy just because I like the amount of detail that I can put into my responses. I feel like with more modern role-plays there are times where the detailing just becomes too excessive like I'm fairly sure I don't need to use up a paragraph to describe what a Toyota looks like but I definitely could use up a paragraph describing a chariot or wagon or something like that.

I'm with you there, yea. I don't get the point of a writer trying to make a modern fantasy, but trying to make something as mundane as a lighter seem fantastical to the reader. I don't remember the book, but there was only one time I've seen so far where that style made sense. There was a wizard from the far past who wound up somewhere in the 1900s or something era. So of course technology is fantastical to him and the story was being told from him. But something about teenagers being all caught up over a slightly rigged out car just feels boring.

Exactly haha. If you remember the name of the book then definitely let me know - it sounds pretty interesting!
