Hey there! I honestly find introductions quite hard, so I'm just gonna try my best and refine it over time if I can. My name's Link, or you can call me Lawliet, I really don't mind at all. I'm in my early 20s, and my pronouns are he/him. Ooh, I also have autism, which may explain more than it should in context, lol. I used to write a lot more than I do now, and casually roleplay from time to time, but wanted to get a little more serious about it as a hobby, so here I am.
I guess I should try and explain what I'm about. I feel like I take a very character-based approach to roleplay. I often come up with a character's premise and work around it, rather than the inverse, so I have a couple of characters who I'm quite attached to or even still trying to decipher. I think that a good story posits a good question, and then tries to answer that question, so I guess I kinda use my poor little guys as tools for that exploration. I'll be sure to introduce you to them in this post, so you can get to know them and see if they sound like a fit for you! I'm a pretty big sucker for some slow-burn romance, but I also enjoy a bit of action to spice things up! I typically stick to fantasy, but someday I wanna broaden my own horizons and branch out a bit.
As far as the more technical side of things go, I consider myself to be very literate, but I'm not terribly confident in my writing skills. That may kinda be a result of where I am in my life right now, but that's just how it is at the moment. As a matter of fact, one of the reasons I really want to start roleplaying more is so that I can improve myself through experience, and learn how to become a better writer. I write in third-person and keep things pretty centralized to my main player, but I really don't mind doubling up from time to time to add some breadth to the story. After all, I think it's a little unrealistic to expect a story to stay really engaging and broaden its horizons if it's solely confined to two characters. I don't particularly write at a set length and typically do my best to mirror my partner, unless extraneous circumstances call for something otherwise. I love to discuss plot ideas and coordinate scenes, I think the collaborative part of storytelling in roleplay is the part I enjoy the most, so hit me up with your ideas whenever and wherever they strike!! In terms of reply times, my circadian rhythm is normally all over the place (AEST timezone), and I don't have all too much substantial going on in life, so I'll normally be able to reply pretty quickly, especially if I'm enthused about what we're cooking up.
Also, totally open to OOC chatter amidst the roleplay and plot weaving! If you'd like to know me a bit better, I'm a very big nerd(TM). I love video games (big on roguelites, fighting games, retro stuff, and Monster Hunter) and anime (my current obsession is JJK). I guess also enjoy general chatter about life and the philosophies we live by. I also have a huge passion for music! Not only does it give me a lot of inspiration to write and make up silly little stories in my head, but I also make music myself, and if I like you and you maybe ask super nicely to hear it, I may or may not show you. Not crazy fond of my own talent for it, but, hey, it's there. My dream is to go and work at a particular escape room venue to work as a host/game designer/narrative designer!
One more thing, yeah, hey, I'm new here! I haven't really roleplayed in a forum like this before, so if you've got feedback about my searches or formatting, things I might want to include or exclude, anything like that, I'd greatly appreciate a pointer or two! Okay, I'll shut up now and leave you to the proverbial meat and potatoes. Thank you for rocking with me!

Kyan:
Species - Human/Aasimar
Age - Late Teens/Early 20s
Height - 5'9"
Appearance - Short Brown Hair, Carmine Eyes, Slim-Athletic Build, Lightly Scarred Forearms
Typical Outfit - A leather tunic with a white undershirt, a pine green cloak, tan slacks, and leather boots.
Typical Role - Princess' Royal Guard, Knight, Outcast Adventurer
Faceclaim (pretty old, but the best I have for now): Available on request! I'd give the imgur link, but I hate how it embeds into the post, lmao.
Kyan is probably the most flexible out of all of my cast. He's actually a DnD character who's story I never got to finish, so I suppose I fill that gap by sending him out into the world long after our campaign ended. I consider him to be pretty adaptable in any fantasy setting, but he's always had two pretty solid cores for his character, I guess I could best refer to them as pre- and post-calamity.
Pre-calamity Kyan was chosen, be it due to his lineage or talent, at a young age as the bodyguard for the Princess of the kingdom in which he lives. Anxious in lieu of his assignment, he is easily flustered and very eager to prove himself to his peers. Though, when he is able to adjust to the lofty expectations placed upon him, he reveals a bit more of a playful and flirtatious side. He's fiercely loyal to a fault, and is more than willing to lay his life on the line, blurring the line between courage and stupidity to protect those who he cares for. He struggles to reason with his feelings when they arise, especially if they relate to the subject of his protection. Pre-calamity Kyan's story arc tends to be one that is a bit lighter, of embracing himself and his strengths, finding the confidence he needs to rise to his station and be a person who his Princess is proud to be glued at the hip with.
Post-calamity Kyan is where Kyan was in during his original tale. During a quiet summer's night, someone managed to slip through the cracks, harboring nefarious intent. The Princess was assassinated. Kyan willingly exiled himself from the Kingdom in shame, abandoning his post and eloping in a depressive delirium. As the days wore on, he lost his trail, and slowly, his mind. In his grief, he called out to the skies, pleading for salvation however it may be delivered. For a long time, he heard nothing back, not even from the Raven Queen...until his fiendish patron heeded his call. In exchange for unrestricted access to his memory, he endowed Kyan with immense power, promising him the strength to undo his mistake and win his Princess back. In a bid of desperation, Kyan accepted his terms. Post-calamity Kyan is a good deal less trusting, and is more hot-headed and abrasive. He almost fears growing close to others, expecting himself to only let them down. Under the hardened exterior, though he will never admit it, he yearns for a life like the one he used to have. One filled with the warmth he doesn't believe he deserves, small moments of wonder, and most of all, love. Naturally, Kyan later discovered that his patron was actually the architect of his misfortunes, as well as his party's. His story didn't progress too far beyond that point, but I typically envision a few possibilities after then:
1) Kyan may encounter a character during his quest to rescue his Princess.
2a) Kyan has rescued his Princess, and she forgives him. They learn to live in the aftermath of what's unfolded.
2b) Kyan has rescued his Princess, and she DOESN'T forgive him. This makes way to a few questions for him. How does he move on?
Can he forgive himself if she hasn't? He wanders alone, trying to find a future in the aftermath.
Again, though, I consider Kyan to be an all-rounder character and incredibly adaptable! If you have another idea for a fantasy scenario that sounds like fun, I'm all ears! This is just where Kyan kinda comes from and how I normally play him, I'm absolutely open, and frankly almost encouraged, to switching it up with him and exploring other possibilities.
Yudai (VERY WIP):
Species - Human
Age - Early 20s
Height - 5'10"
Appearance - Short, Unkempt Black Hair, Slate-Gray Eyes, Slim Build, Feint Circles Under Eyes
Typical Outfit - A worn, brown cloak, white long sleeved shirt, dark slacks, and old leather boots.
Typical Role - Adventurer?
Faceclaim - Yuta Okkotsu (Post-JJK 0)
Yudai is a new character of mine who I'm exploring. I'm not too sure exactly who he is yet, but I know what he's about. Born and raised in a small, poor village a ways from the nearest city, he grew up as nothing more than prey to the syndicate who would often stroll into down, demanding their exorbitant 'protection fees' and much more of the town's scarce resources. He picked up a blade the day after his mother refused to sleep with a lieutenant of the syndicate, and they beat her so badly that she lost an eye. He'd swore from that day on to train relentlessly, to grow strong enough to protect his village from these thugs who'd oppressed them as long as he'd lived. Day in and out, he'd wear himself to the bone in the open fields near his home, cleaving into targets he'd made of oak wood himself, often injuring himself in the process. Though he improved bit by bit, he wasn't near strong enough to defend his home, at least, not yet. Little did he know, though, he had an observer who'd grown very interested in him.
Azael is their name. I don't particularly know who or what Azael is yet. I like the idea of them being a passive observer, wandering the liminal space between the astral and material planes with apathy, watching on as mortals go about their affairs, devoid of desire. That is, until she (in this case) one day finds herself observing Yudai's training. Slowly, she becomes enamoured with him, offering her strength to him so they can be together and something more than they would be apart. I wrote a more detailed outline of this idea not too long ago, so if it intrigues you, let me know, and I'd be happy to share!
Whether you'd like to play as your interpretation of Azael herself or a character accompanying Yudai on his adventures, as Azael accompanies him in return, that's totally fine! At the end of the day, I think I want Yudai's story arc to be focused on finding independence and how to rely on his own strength, rather than others'.
((More to come!! I have plenty more characters, but would like to take my time in crafting their bios so they're proper!!))
