Ruby blinked. She sighed and began fiddling with her fingers. "Sir, I don't think you wanna hear my life story. Perhaps you're mistaking, but I am not special. I'm just a bartender magician. That's all I am. By the way, I have a show tonight. It's here." She said, trying to change the subject.

Johnathan was currently in his lab eating an apple as his crew did some quick repairs on the Evac Glider. A nervous and shaky man stood next to Johnathan, flinching every time he turned to look at him. "No, I did not take the Evac Glider into battle, Cornelius. I already told you that eleven times." That man sighed and looked down at his clip board. "I know sir, but the glider has sustained heavy damage. We just had to make sure that you-" Johnathan tossed his apple in the trash can next to him and glared at his assistant. "I know what I'm doing. I don't need you to constantly question my ability to comprehend things." Cornelius tumbled back as Johnathan advanced before putting up his hands to protect himself. Johnathan rolled his eyes and walked past the man and through a door out of the lab, leading to a secret compartment in his closet. He opened the doors in front of him as the doors behind him closed. He walked into his bed room and went to his living room and sat down before turning on the TV.

Moon was perplexed as to why Ruby refused to share her gift, had her abilities been simple slight of hand, Moon would have failed to sense them. He interjected once again "Madam, if you wish to not share your abilities, that is perfectly decent. I will not continue to violate your personal life, but know, your raw arcane abilities are great, and joining us will be a way to put your abilities to a noble cause."

Alexio Valentio, secretly the terrorist known as Gore, quietly drank his alcohol in the back of some random bar that he had stumbled across. He ignored all those around him, that is, until a strange man wearing a costume walked in.


'Either that guy is a nutjob or...' Alexio thought to himself as he watched the strange man, his right hand drifting into his pocket, his fingers brushing against one of the switchblades hidden there. Alexio watched as the strange man talked to the bartender girl as another man entered the bar and walked over to the pair. Alexio heard the strange man call himself "Sun Knight" and say that the other man was his "acquaintance".


'Sun Knight? Haven't I heard that somewhere before? Sun Knight, Sun Knight, Sun Kni-.....oh shit. Thats a hero." That meant that the second man was also most likely a hero.


'What am I worrying about?' Alexio chuckled to himself. 'Not like anyone knows my true identity.' Then a third man entered the bar and walked over to the group.


'Well shit.' Alexio looked down at his empty glass. 'I need another drink.'


Going against his better judgement, Alexio got up from his seat and went over to where the heroes, and the bartender, were.


"Vodka, please," he requested.

Blake looked to CAP and smiled. "Seem' like it. And did you say Strange? Never heard of him." Blake grabbed his water glass and took a sip. "Houdini was special. All those other guys, sleight of hand. Either that, or science. They light themselves on fire and trick little's kids into thinking that they did it with 'magic'. Like I said, I don't believe in it. It's just my opinion."

CAP looked at the Blake for a few seconds.


''....you don't believe in magic? We have people who can actively fly around, blow up buildings, fold realities all with a movements and a word and you think magic don't exist?''


I could always speak to him.

After some deliberation, Moon spoke "While our current arrangement is uncertain, Myself, Captain Ireland, and This New Man of Iron have just defended the city from a Goblin of sorts who used explosives to destroy some infrastructure. While I have not taken thought on the matter, I do have a suggestion for a title, The Defenders, to stand as a line of defense to the people, and to keep those who wish to destroy without the satisfaction of accomplishing."

Alexio nodded his thanks, handing the bartender some cash as he looked at her with his aqua eyes, so unnaturally bright that they were almost to the point of glowing.


'Not bad,' he thought to himself. Turning to go back to his table, Alexio stopped when he heard Sun Knight say something about a goblin blowing up buildings. His lips curved into a slight smile.


'That goblin guy and I would get along well,' he thought to himself as, instead of going back to the table he had been at before, he stayed closer to the heroes, listening to their conversation.

"Well, I'm sticking with New Avengers. If Cap over there joins, he could be the new Captain America, I would obviously be the new Iron Man, Sun could be a new addition, and so would Miss Magic. What do you guys thin-" Blake turned to see that Cap was staring Blake down. "Cap.... Stop, please... Your freaking me out little..."

Ruby smiled slightly. "In my free time, can I still work here? And do I have to wear a weird costume?" She asked, folding her arms. "Because if I do, I'll only join if I can wear my magician outfit." She said.

''Sorry, just, ya know, exited.'' CAP turned away and began to address the group ''Wait, how old are you all? As cool as Defenders is there are always a few teams using the name. BUT, I think the Young Avengers disbanded. Soooo, how old are you all.''


He looked at Ruby, blushed and then said ''You can wear whatever you like, I think. I mean, why not? And you can't be doing stuff ALL the time so I think you could still work. Who knows, maybe you die first day on the job, live in the moment. *passionately* Live every day as if you last, *stands* fight for a better tomorrow, be the best you can be!''

'This guy...I might actually feel bad when I kill him. He's like a five year old pretending to be a superhero. Then again, I DO hate five year olds...'

Ruby blinked. "Um....ok.....that's....fine...no better way to recruit people than telling them they'll probably die." She said with a smirk. "I guess I'm in. When do I start?" She asked, itching her back.

Alexio finished his vodka, placed the empty glass on the bar counter, and left. He had heard all that he had needed to. Some heroes were forming a team, and were going to be a big pain in his ass. He'd have to take care of them.


'Lets see if I can't find Mister Goblin.'

Johnathan eventually got bored of watching TV and decided to go out onto the town. But this time, in a calm way. He drove to the bank in his sports car and withdrew 1000$ to 2000$ before he drove to a parking garage. He left his car there and began to walk around, looking for something to do. He was so caught up in thinking, he didn't notice Alexio until it was to late. He bumped into him in a full on collision and growled. "Watch where your going!" Johnathan glared at him before he walked right past him, his eyes still locked onto Alexio.

Alexio grabbed the man who just bumped into him by the shoulder, giving a cold, evil smile, one that would have children crying for their mothers, the smile of a killer.


"Now, now, that wasn't nice," he said in a sinister sing-song voice, keeping a firm grip on the man's shoulder. "You should really apologize, or you might hurt my feelings. That would make me angry, and you won't like me when I'm angry."

Alexio grabbed the man who just bumped into him by the shoulder, giving a cold, evil smile, one that would have children crying for their mothers, the smile of a killer.
"Now, now, that wasn't nice," he said in a sinister sing-song voice, keeping a firm grip on the man's shoulder. "You should really apologize, or you might hurt my feelings. That would make me angry, and you won't like me when I'm angry."

Goblin stopped in his tracks. He turned, revealing a cruel, sick smile on his face. A face that would make the most hardest of men cry for their mothers. The smile of a psychopath. "Your right..... I'm sorry for being so rude...." Goblin put a hand on Alexio's shoulder and tilted his head. "Let me make it better...... Friend." Goblin's gloves let out a loud crackle as they sent wave after wave of electricity through Alexio's body. Goblin walked forwards, pushing Alexio into an alleyway. "See? I'm making it better.... So much better...."

Alexio laughed maniacally as Goblin electrocuted him.


"F-feels...so...g-g-good," he laughed, managing to pull one of his switchblades out of his pocket, opening the knife and pressing the metal blade against Goblin. "H-here h-have s-so-some!" He cackled as the electricity traveled through his body, through the switchblade, and back into Goblin. As he laughed, Alexio bit into his tongue, blood filling his mouth.

Goblin jolted from the energy before putting on a smile. "I'-I've ne-never no-ticed how good this -fe-feel's!" After awhile Goblin pulled back his free hand before swinging at Alexio. Hopefully, in whatever state he in, he would be weakened.
