Hello again!

Cobalt_Velvet

A Gentleman of Leisure
Role played here ages ago and really enjoyed myself but life kidnapped me with niggling little things such as work and responsibly. Now back at university and with some free time on my hands I would utterly adore chance to get stuck into some RP again!

Oooff heavy one and thank you very much for the welcome. Its been a strange journey and to confess it all started when a friend got my into Warhammer 40k of all things. I was digging around and found out about Inquisition which was a role play/table top game, more small scale warhammer than role play. But it was out of print and expensive (models all metal too urrg) so this friend said I should just join a game of Dark Heresy and thus began my stumbling steps into role play. In retrospect certainly not my favourite system or setting really but I think of it fondly as this same group have been my close friends (and RP group) for a good 10 years now. Sorry for the long answer must admit never really thought about it until you asked!

You're welcome :)

Having a answer is better then not having one. Even if the answer is brief, like "friend invited me to a game of whatever, which got me into it" would be a good answer. Starting out in the Warhammer 40k system is quite tough, I know from transferring from D&D to the original Warhammer (not 40k) table-top game.

I'm guessing that you are a Sci-Fi focused roleplayer since you started in WH40k?

Jack of all trades and master of none is more my scope. Though a bad run of DnD put me off fantasy but would love to see that put right some time. Sci-fi is certainly on the list though I'm usually more attracted to more mundane or low tier settings such as scavengers and criminals in sci-fi universe, though not adverse to trying new things. With the aforementioned cyberpunk as you might expect is a hot button with me, utterly adore it, and am even writing a campaign for my group at moment for it. I suppose I do certainly lean towards occult/horror as well, though this I blame on an English degree (folklore was my speciality). Run a few games based in Victorian England with vampires, aliens and Camelot thrown in for good measure.

I see, I see. I'm also a Jack of All as well, but I started off in Fantasy with D&D before branching off to others. I would be happy to try and help you get your distrust of fantasy put right in the future. Scavengers and Criminals are low-tier!? By All that is of Shadow, when was that decreed?!?

That old skit of mine aside, Cyberpunk and Sci-Fi is one of my go-to's for some help in creating OC's. I help out as much as I can with people creating their OC's backstories, and I use a lot of Cyberpunk elements in creating their backstories. Glad that you are writing a campaign for Cyberpunk as well, seeing someone write a campaign and not taking a pre-made one from somewhere is awesome.

Occult and Horror is something that I love doing myself, I like to add a bit of Lovecraftian monsters to all the campaigns I make for it... and the monsters are mostly Shub-Niggurath looking, with a tiny bit of Lord Cthulhu mixed in for laughs (you would not believe how dark my old occult horror group was, laughing at the stuff I made... man it was awesome).

Victorian times with vamps, aliens AND Camelot? Wow, first time I've seen that combination.

DnD is a solid start and a classic, which edition did you get weaned on? Oh god that gif though!? But I suppose I like it my Sci-fi grungy and street level maybe Dark Heresy rubbed off on me more than I give it credit. Would be great to have a guide to get me back into some fantasy, I'll hold you to that. And your so right sci-fi and cyberpunk is just a great resource for writing! Good to see a fellow occult lover as well, always great to slip in some Lovecraftian elements as the designs and mythos are just bloody marvellous, Shub-Niggurath is perfect example. Oddly enough just finished of Mountains of Madness audio book recently which easily my favourite. I do try and be original with my writing but I mostly just warp and contort other things, for example that Victorian setting. Basically idea was Camelot existed and Lady of the Lake was now the primary religion of the UK (pretty much stolen from Bretonians from Warhammer which I loved) so 'knights' were now just specialist police etc then took H.G.Wells War of the Worlds in which the aliens drain people of blood to feed, threw in the vampire designs from Penny Dreadfull said they were bio-engineered and called it 'The Undesirables'. I'm less an original writer more a creative butcher must confess.

3.5, I started playing D&D in 2005. I had to use that gif, it's something that's used a lot at work when someone says something stupid. You got it, I'll see what campaigns and roleplay stories I can scrounge up that my old group had created (if I can find that damned folder that we had made for it). I know, sci-fi and cyberpunk has grown a ton thanks to Blade Runner, Star Wars and Star Trek, those are my main go-to's for resources. Agreed, Shub-Niggurath is referenced a lot, but not as much as Cthulhu (so many 8-bit games on Steam!). My favourite Lovecraftian book around have to be The Call of Cthulhu, it's what got me into Lovecraftian horror, followed closely by Dagon.

Original writer, creative butcher, it matters not which is used. All that really matters is the style that you yourself have created for the campaigns, even if you mash together dozens of different genres (like I once did I must admit, I had fun creating my "Death of the Star" roleplay for a past D&D roleplay) for your campaign it's what you put together for it that matters. As my groups old GM used to say, "Create any campaign that your heart believes is right" (don't ask about why he said it, I never bothered to ask so I don't know why).

Aha DnD Fantasy death star, love the sound of it already, always something wonderful about a super weapon. Good advice as well just get bogged down in your writing and write something fun, all about getting there not the destination and all that. Oh and thank you Princely!

Mostly here to say cobalt is my favorite color, and also welcome! I am new here, but old hat to role play. Glad you've got some time on your hands again!
