A blob of brown waves stationed on his head is enough to describe Oates' hair. It isn't really as wobbly as it would initially seem, though the softness is spot on. On a gloomy rainy day, he is the compassionate friend whose shoulder you can cry on. He is the advice giver when you need advice, or just a listener when you need someone to listen to you. He is radiant, he is warm, he is exactly what you long for on a gloomy day.
On a sunny day, however, his warmth and radiancy; his excitement and urge to go out and do things; his positivity which seems to come from a bottomless well, all those things make him hard to be around constantly. Keeping things turned up to the maximum at every hour of every day can be exhausting to some, and to compensate for it, Oates puts other peopleโs needs before his own.
Numbing down his excitement or ignoring his wants just in case other people would find it annoying is something one wouldnโt see in him right away because he would never admit to it. He is a pushover in every sense of that word, and once you get to know him, this becomes very apparent. But thatโs the thing about him: he doesnโt mind being a pushover; he doesnโt mind putting himself second; he doesnโt mind any of it as long as the people around him are happy. You are who you are around, and Oates takes that seriously.

Though, initially being told they couldnโt have children might have brought a few bumps in the road to their marriage, both Beau and Florence made their peace that the perfect Healdsburg family was off the table. Then, against all odds, on a particular November night, Florence became pregnant and nine months later Oates Oates, a perfectly happy, a perfectly healthy, a perfectly baby baby boy was born.
Thinking this would be their only child, Oates was treated like the flowers in Florenceโs gardenโShowered with love and supplied with everything necessary for a child to grow up happy. His earliest childhood remains marked with memories of helping his mom with her herb garden in the kitchen, or helping his dad build the tool shed in the backyard; having a nightmare at night and both his parents jumping out of bed to soothe him back to sleep.
early teenage yearsOatesโ first friend was his cousin, a blonde girl who, like him, radiated the Oates energy (despite the last name Foster). Whenever Niamhโs dad came over to the Oates household, Niamh came with him, and Oates always remembered the joy he felt when she did. These werenโt long playdates, but by the time these two started first grade (and ended up in the same class), the bond they had was unbreakable.
In their class, a boy, Kian his name was. With the addition of this โKianโ, the duo became a trio, an inseparable trio of friends whose parents from then on were bombarded with questions like โCan I go to this personโs house? Please??โ
Around this time, Oates showed interest in ballet and his dad proudly marched into the one dance studio in Healdsburg, demanding to enroll his boy in a ballet class. Some people in the family did not necessarily approve of this since it, in their words, brought shame on the family name. That was the first time the bubble around Oates, the one carefully constructed by his parents, got chipped away at.
Bullying at school also started up, which chipped away at the bubble some more, but on the other side stood Niamh, Kian, Florence, and Beau, fixing the small cracks with superglue and tape.
Sometime 5th grade, Oates understood he didnโt only like girls because the more he hung around Kian, the stronger the butterflies in his stomach fluttered. Now, he didnโt think this was anything weird, and he didnโt have any trouble talking about it with Kian, who seemed to share the feelings.

His first kiss, his first camping trip, his first skating accident, his first apple bobbing experience; essentially his later childhood was now marked mostly by Kian, and partly by Niamh. And Oates could not have imagined his life without these two there for him.
Around this time, his mom ended up pregnant again and 9 months after, Oates had a baby brother who he swore he would protect forever and ever.
late teenage yearsFor some reason, Oatesโs ballet teacher thought it would be a good idea to have the entire ballet class audition for a high school in Los Angeles when the interviewers were passing through Healdsburg, and, surprisingly, 13-year-old Oates was given the opportunity to dance at the elite school with paid tuition and housing. It was a chance to pursuit his dream of being a real dancer and a fruition of all the hard work heโd done up to that point.
But going to Los Angeles meant that he had to shed the bubble around him and experience the real world for the first time which nobody liked the idea of, especially not Oates. Healdsburg was all heโd ever known and going to the dance school in Los Angeles meant being miles and miles away from his parents, from his baby brother, from the person heโd considered his best friend, and from the person heโd considered his soulmate.
His dream of the perfect Healdsburg life was headbutting his dream of going out of Healdsburg and making something real of himself. Eventually, it was Kian who convinced Oatesโ parents and him that this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that Oates could not afford to say no to. And so, off to a shiny, new, exciting, and scary Los Angeles Oates went.
With lack of ability to bike down to Kianโs house at any given moment, the two boysโ agreed long distance relationship went from texting every hour of every day to good morning and good night texts to no texts at all. There never was an official breakup, but it was pretty clear, and with the awkwardness now shrouding everything connected to Kain, even being home for the holidays meant not going out at the off chance of seeing the guy whose heart Oates broke.
Instead, his life and memories were now marked entirely by Los Angeles and the people he met there. A new boyfriend, then his first ever girlfriend, then the boyfriend again. His first party and connected, his first hangover. His first part-time job, getting fired for the first time. Dancing harder than ever before, spending nights upon nights practicing the choreography until it was perfect and still not getting the part. Not getting chosen for the college program despite working on his audition for months prior. Feeling crushed for the first time in his life. Understanding that he needed to go back home and face all of the relationships that needed mending.
It was all a beautiful story and this was the final chapter of the โLos Angelesโ book. Now he needed to start a new book: โHealdsburg, againโ. And that was scary.

What Brought You Back?โWell, it was a bus. It was pretty nice. The bus driver used to work in a bakery, I remembered him, we had a nice chat, it was nice. Oh, you meant figuratively? Uh, well, apartments in Los Angeles are expensive and I couldnโt find a job to sustain it so I decided to come back and try my luck with my family. I donโt know what I want to do, I do know I want to take my little brother out for ice cream and go out with my old friends.โ

Petite and often described as 'adorable', Charlie is a rather small girl, standing at just 5'0". "Real talk here: has anyone told you that you look kinda dumb when you go all [insert hilarious facial reenactment] when you're confused? It's kinda cute"personalityOh boy, there's a lot to say about Charlie. Everyone knows her as the bright and bubbly only daughter of the Howell family. When she was younger, she was the kind of kid that made friends with strangers in the grocery store and played in the racks of clothing to give her poor mother a heart attack. As she aged, this aspect of Charlie never changed. To this day, Charlie is incredibly playful and loves to laugh and crack jokes and get into harmless trouble, constantly living for thrills and joys. She's as radiant as sunshine and everyone knows it.
Luckily for her (and probably her mother's sanity), Charlie has a near perfect balance between her fun side and her serious side. She's a dedicated worker and student, the effort and her natural intelligence showing in the results of work reviews and report cards. With the need to constantly be doing something, Charlie frequently tries her hand at new things and has found passions in music and sports, thriving in stressful atmospheres where her competitive side can be nurtured and thrive.
All of Charlie's confidence and bravado and intelligence is what she really wants people to see. Underneath, she's rather insecure. After a life of putting everyone else before herself, she's burned out and locked down emotionally, afraid to trust after being hurt and abandoned. She plays of serious emotions with jokes and smiles, even when she needs to get things off her chest. Perhaps risky and occasionally stupid, Charlie really is a responsible mom friend at heart. Charlie is also afraid of losing people and rarely lets people too close anymore, keeping her true emotions at a distance while still letting people know they're loved with her sweetness, energy, and caring disposition.
- Starting OutCharlotte May Howell was born on (birthday) in the lovely town of Healdsburg. She is the youngest child of her mother, Healdsburg librarian Jennifer Howell, succeeding her three older brothers: Jason (23), Matthew (26), and Chris (30). The Howells are a rather well known family in town, Mama Howell being a major player in the volunteer town council and her eldest brothers being precious stars of Healdsburg Public. Charlie's father is some business guy that lives in New York, having created Charlie on a passing through Healdsburg on a weekend vacation with his brother. As far as anyone knows, he has no idea that Charlie even exists.
Growing up wasnโt exactly a cakewalk for Charlie. Although her family was close, with her brothers acting as father figures in the absence of her actual father, money was always tight. For a while, Jennifer was often out of town, working long hours at a restaurant as a waiter. This left Charlie to be raised mostly by her eldest brother Chris who, as far as sheโs concerned, did a pretty good job. The weekends were filled with grocery runs and makeup chores, packed to the brim with activity. In most scenarios, the forever busy life would leave such a young child lonely and unsettled but for Charlie, it was entirely the opposite.
Charlie was never alone, her needs always met and her time filled with fun and love. When her mother was around, the Howell family took regular weekend camping trips or late night movies in the backyard. Those memories were truly sacred.
Once Charlie started school, her life became infinitely better. Her personality began to blossom, known by her teachers as an incredibly bright student with a knack for getting into trouble. In fact, her first day of school set the tone for the rest of her life.
Picture it: little Charlie, long blond hair in messy braided pigtails, wielding a stick on the playground. Her swings were incredible, aimed towards some brute named Marcus. His crime? Making fun of her oversized jean overalls at lunchtime. Charlie had him cornered, stick in hand as she demanded an apology.
Needless to say, Charlie never got that apology. Instead, she got detention.
When she arrived at detention, she met another kid named Oates Oates. A silly name, she thought, but he seemed nice enough. The two spent their entire detention together, along with every lunchtime and every recess every day since. Charlie had found herself a best friend.
So it ContinuesLife continued on as normal. Charlie excelled in school and found a love in video games and team sports, especially rugby. As her brothers began to age and move on with their lives, more responsibility fell on her shoulders. Charlie never really minded, relishing every moment she could get to shine and show her worth to her mother. When Charlie graduated middle school, her mother changed jobs and found a job as a librarian at the local library.
Charlie proved that she was incredibly smart, eventually being tested for and found to be gifted. She continued on in her studies, working hard in the summers to earn early college credits. As soon as she was able to work, Charlie got a job mowing lawns and eventually helping her mom at the library. She was a hard worker, endlessly dedicated to bettering herself, from her 4.0GPA to her position as a first chair saxophonist to a star member of the schoolโs rugby team.
Everything was perfect. Charlie was on track to graduate the top of her class, a candidate for valedictorian. Sheโd been accepted to Princeton and John Hopkins University on account of her great grades and near perfect extracurricular activities. Her dreams were coming true.
A cough changed it all.
Between the MRIs, sterile doctorโs offices, and vials of tired blood, Charlieโs world began to crumble. Her mother had cancer, spots on both of her lungs, and the treatment was going to be expensive. Jason, Matt, and Chris all moved back to their Healdsburg home, Matt quitting his job to help care for their ailing mother. Jason worked overtime at a quarry outside of town while Chris got a job at town hall as an advisor to the mayor.
Charlie, on the other hand, did as much as she could. She quit rugby, resigned from her saxophone position, and stopped her volunteer positions. She worked long hours between school and studying at the General Store as a cashier to help pay for the expensive chemotherapy and medications. When she wasnโt working or studying, she was spending time with her mother, growing more distant from her friends. Nonetheless, Charlie remained active in town and tried to keep in touch as much as possible.
After the summer and her senior year, her mother was finally in remission. The bank account, however, was empty. Charlie couldnโt afford her Ivy League dreams with every paycheck going to groceries and medicine. Instead, she made the decision to stay in Healdsburg after graduation, starting her degree in biology at the local Healdsburg Community College. She hopes to one day become a doctor, to help people like the kind doctors helped her mother. Until med school, Charlie is stuck in Healdsburg where her tuition is covered by a hefty scholarship. She really wants out of Healdsburg but is something that could keep the academic dreamer in the town that raised her?

I'd become a doctor or a researcher or somethin' cool, playing varsity rugby on weeknights and spending the weekends back home with my family or out exploring a new city with my friends. Now, I don't know. Those are expensive dreams I had and honestly, they're just not realistic anymore. I guess I still want to be a doctor but that feels like such a shallow dream now.โ

Kian is about what you'd expect a child of two Californian hippies to look like. Tall, slightly tanned, and a face that's constantly armed with a goofy lopsided smile, Kian is the kind of person that both looks like a default Sim while being unique all at once. Generally handsome in the way that one goofy (almost annoying) kid in your class is, Kian's attractiveness mostly comes from his absurd amount of confidence that exudes from his whole being.
Kian has his father's hair, dark brown and often kept in a messy pile on his head. He inherited his sparkling hazel eyes from his mother and his sharp jawline from his grandfather (seriously, Grandpa Thimbold had glorious jawline). "Healdsburg! Your prodigal son returns! Even though I never left! "personalityKian is certainly a character. It seems like everyone in town knows him and nearly everyone in town loves him. Kian is everywhere at once like a little Tasmanian Devil, bursting with enough energy to fuel an army of preschoolers. He's sociable and sweet, seeming to make friends wherever he goes with true ease. Seriously, this guy once made friends with a deaf woman who was about 150 years old and no, he doesn't use ASL. Since he has so much energy, this also makes him unpredictable and easily distracted, whatever the most exciting thing is at the moment is what catches his attention and passion most.
For someone from a small town that's been scarcely influenced by the outside world, Kian really does have big city dreams. He's ambitious and highly creative, within moral means of course. Kian's energy and creative mind means that he's a wonderful performer, his love for people making him a prime candidate for fame. He has little shame and enough boldness to do what it takes to get this success, even when that success means temporarily studying some bullshit English degree he hates.
Yes, as we've established, everyone knows Kian as the bubbly guy. Unfortunately, the sweetness and the sunshine hides a darker part of him, a part that no one but his family and his closest friends know. His heart is hurt, fearing abandonment without reason and searching for any way to numb the pain. For a while, it was hookups, another time it was molly, sometimes it was staying up for so many days on end that his brain took care of itself. Kian's personality is addictive, loving the highs and the thrills and the adrenaline. Every negative emotion can be solved with an addiction, every issue solved with a substance. He's been sober for a year now but that doesn't mean the urge isn't there.

personalityNiamh has a good ability to think ahead and assess the outcome of things before jumping in headfirst. That's not to say she always actively tries to avoid confrontation or pissing someone off, but she'll have given it some good thinking over before she does.
She can be a great laugh when she's comfortable, and sometimes gets carried away. Being the "sensible" one all the time means you can crash hard and go a little wild. If Niamh's laughing, everyone is.
Her word is genuine, and when she says she'll do something, she will. You can count on her when times get tough, if you need a hand to hold or a shoulder to cry on. Just don't fuck her over; she wouldn't do that to her friends, so she doesn't expect it to come from them either. Also, Niamh's honesty can come with a price. She's forthcoming, and can catch people off guard with the ease at which her mouth can run.

Niamh's parents enjoyed having the home and family that would, outwardly, invoke the envy of others (only the first of their many hypocrisies). They presented as the perfect, God-fearing, all-American household. The Fosters embraced traditional family values, and put their religion before all else - eventually, it would appear, before even their children.
Despite this, Niamh and Grace enjoyed a happy and fruitful childhood. They both attended a private girls' school in the next town over, enjoying the best education money could buy. Marie and Jeremy were all too proud, clamouring to their friends and congregation about what role models their children were, sent from God Himself to set an example. Ha... yeah, about that...second stage of lifeThe all-girl's Catholic school didn't last long. Niamh was now 11, and well acquainted with the truth of her parents' bigotry masked as devout religion. She resented the fact that her best friends, Oates and Kian, went to Healdsburg's public school, enjoying a normal pre-teen life with normal parents and other normal friends.
Frankly, her parents pissed her off. She was wising up to their elitist and exclusionary beliefs and opinions; she heard the way they spoke when it was just the four of them, casting their disgust at anyone who didn't fit into the middle-class, white, chaste world they were praying for. Her schoolmates were just the same, heralding from clueless couples spouting the same religious drivel.
So, she had enough. Niamh started kicking off. It was relatively small things at first; refusing to attend school, running off to Aunt Flo's house, spending too much time with boys. Her parents detested any of her friends from outside the girls' school, barely tolerating her own cousin, Oates. Kian, her childhood crush, with whom she was still unfortunately besotted - unfortunate as Kian and Oates were also besotted with each other - was certainly not the company Marie or Jeremy was interested in her keeping.
Up until now, Niamh's grades were perfect. A pitch above the rest. Slowly, then all at once, she let them slip. She just stopped trying, no longer willing to feed her family's ego. It did the job. She was pulled from the private school, contently chucked into the public education system, and gladly united with her friends.third stage of lifeThrough her teenage years, the resentment towards her parents only grew. She avoided them at all costs, but doted on her younger sister. Grace was mature enough to identify the same flaws in them as Niamh, but too fearful and intimidated to do anything but continue acting the part.
At 15, Niamh went all in. Lopped all her hair off, got the piercings and make-up and clothes that had always been forbidden. She tried to keep out of the house as much as possible, staying out at various places just to avoid the hassle. She felt free. Never truly, but enough that she got a taste for what life could be like. Unburdened. Unbridled.
At 16, Niamh started to find explore who she really was. That was the final straw. Word got out about a couple of encounters with a choir girl, from her parent's church no less, and neither Marie or Jeremy held back their disgust. They kicked her out, all but rescinded their relationship with their daughter that same day. Turns out, freedom came at a price.
Niamh had limited places to turn to. Half the town backed her parents, sharing the same dismay and horror. Oates was out of town, studying in LA; that opened up a whole load of feelings for Kian that she had been suppressing, justified in the past by the fact he was dating her cousin. Now he was single and it was... too much. She had to put in some distance.
She was taken in by Oates' parents. Aunt Flo had been there for her as a kid, and was there for her again. She took up Oates' bedroom while he was away, got herself a job as a waitress down at The Pier, and looked forward to finishing school. Now, post-graduation, the price of freedom still remained. With no financial backing, and no true home, college was a bleak and barely conceivable prospect. Anyway, it must've been near midnight, and my tent suddenly unzipped, and their stood Kian and Oates. It was so funny. They snuck me out and we made this big getaway, like a prison break or something. I think we ended up back at Oates', and we just stayed up in his living room, watching TV and eating junk food. My parents were pissed the next morning when they realised I wasn't in my tent, but... yeah. That was the best."

It was stormy the morning of Sawyer Washington's birth. That should have been a premonition of what would come to fruition in the child's life, but neither Nicholas or Evelyn Washington interpreted it as such. They had been told that they could never have biological children of their own, and for the first twelve years of their marriage, they hadn't succeeded. But it was on their thirteenth anniversary that they found out otherwise. It was a long and risky pregnancy and childbirth, as Evelyn was pushing 45, but that fall, Evelyn gave birth to a tiny but healthy baby boy. They named him Sawyer Thomas, after Nicholas's paternal grandfather.
Sawyer made his milestones early, crawling at eight months old instead of nine, walking at a year instead of thirteen months, and reading at eighteen months. He was the light of his parents' lives from the day he was born -- and for good reason. Though he wasn't a child prodigy, by any means, Sawyer was still the bright spark in a dark spot for Nicholas and Evelyn.
Everything was normal for Sawyer during his childhood up until a sweltering summer afternoon when he was twelve. Nicholas Washington, at the young age of fifty-seven, suddenly dropped dead of a massive heart attack. It devastated poor Sawyer, who had been so close to his father. Gone were the days of playing catch and going fishing -- he had nobody to do that with anymore. And for those first few months after her husband's death, Evelyn attempted to fill the roles of both mother and father. But it just wasn't the same, and both Sawyer and Evelyn knew it.

So, what happened after Nicholas's sudden death? Well, first and first-most, Sawyer started therapy to help him deal with the loss. He took up the French horn his seventh grade year, where he fell in love with music. Sawyer continued to play into high school, marching on Friday nights and Saturday mornings at football games and tournaments. He eventually became drum major his senior year, and graduated near the top of his class. Now, he's struggling to make peace with the fact that he might be leaving Healdsburg for UCLA after living here all his life.

I made so many friends and learned so many new things. Wait, let me change my answer. It's not just one memory, it's my whole life before my dad died. He was my everything, and now he's gone. What I wouldn't give to have just one day with him again." Sawyer paused, glancing down at his lap. "Jesus, this got dark. But yeah, my favorite memories are with my dad."
question 2.What are your future ambitions? Do you plan to stay in Healdsburg or are you getting out? "Ambitions? Oh God, not this again. If you need me, I'll be taking a shower with all my clothes on, pondering life." Sawyer got up to leave before sitting back down. "That was a joke. I don't really know what I want to do in the future. If I do end up going to UCLA, I'm most likely going to audition to be in the marching band over there. If I stay here with my mom, I'll probably try to start a business or something. Could you see me as the face of a company? Probably not. I don't know, man, this is all too much for me."
question 3.What brought you back to Healdsburg (or what kept you here if you never left)? Whatโs one thing that you want to accomplish by being back? I never said I wasn't leaving. I did get accepted into UCLA, though. I didn't even go on a senior trip or anything, I haven't left Healdsburg in years, probably not since my dad died." Sawyer thumped his chest twice, flashing a peace sign up towards the sky. "RIP to a real one. Anyway, what was the question? Oh, yeah, me accomplishing something. I don't know, maybe getting a significant other? Do you think I'm cute enough for it?"
- PERSONA.Sawyer is a bit eccentric, but he's not a freak. He's a goofy little weirdo with a heart of gold - who could ask for anything more when it comes down to it? He's a mama's boy, but he doesn't let the constant mom jokes get to him - in fact, he takes it in stride. Where most teenage boys his age tend to embrace the concept of toxic masculinity, Sawyer embraces the exact opposite. You can find him openly weeping sometimes - he's not afraid to cry. He's a gentleman to everyone, and a cheesy sweetheart with notions of what he perceives romance to be. Sawyer has no athletic abilities whatsoever, and is rather clumsy - it's a miracle he made it through four marching seasons without ruining the show.
He has two major faults, however - the first is that he's naรฏve to a certain extent. Sawyer is blissfully unaware with the wrongdoings of his fellow classmates. He doesn't partake in any of the illicit affairs that they are involved with. He considers his mother to be his best friend, though he's friends with a lot of his fellow marching band members. Sawyer's second major fault is that of his unluckiness when it comes to love. He doesn't know how to approach someone in the pursuit of a date, and when he does happen to ask someone out, he gets rejected. That doesn't get him down, though. He's never held hands with anyone romantically, and that's okay with him. Being a late bloomer isn't something he regrets one bit. Eleanor Alvarez grew up the product of a lower middle class family. The oldest of two daughters, followed by her younger sister Isabella. Though the two were only seperated by a year, the gap felt bigger as Isabella was far more innocent and youthful than her feisty older sister. Often the two girls were left to their own devices, growing up as latchkey kids to parents who primarily worked the night shift., resulting in Eleanor being something of a caregiver for her sister from a young age. The Alvarez family spent time together when they had the chance, but due to an unfortunate economic position it wasn't as often as any of them would've liked, leading Ell to be resentful of her family, and often disrespectful to her parents. Despite her better judgement, she resented not being as well off as other kids at school, she resented not spending a lot of time with them, and deep down she resented the codependent taxing bond her relationship with her sister had developed into because of this.
later life
At school, she wished to shed the mother role that had been thrust upon her at home. Being an exceedingly intelligent girl, she easily slipped into the role of sour overachiever, excelling in subjects like Science and English, and taking up all the extracurriculars she could get her hands on, such as yearbook, events, and even cheer. Anything so that Isabella could stay at school with friends or hang inside the club room with her elder sister, and Ellie could delay having to worry about taking care of the house while her parents were gone. It was an exhausting frustrating mixture of a responsibility and protectivness over her sister, and resentment of the extra responsibilites thrust on her by her parents. But clubs made it easier to have the best of both worlds, and succeeding in school provided hope for Ellie. Hope for a better life for her and her family, one where they could be a real proper family.
When the sisters both got to high school however, crap really hit the fan. Isabella began hanging out with a crowd of older guys, a really sketchy crowd of guys who were determined to win over the demure girl. She eventually began dating one of them to the dismay of her older sister, who was livid that the situation was not perfectly in control as she would like it, in addition to fear for her sister who she had so far been successfully able to protect from the less-than-ideal parts of life. Tension was at an all time high in the Alvarez household with Isabella's spiral into delinquency, Eleanor's poor attitude, their parent's lack of involvement in the lives of their families, and the father getting fired from his job. However, nothing could have prepared them for the worst to come.
When Eleanor was 16, Isabella Allen was in the front seat of a fatal car crash. The driver made it out alive, and it was discovered that they were streetracing. The Allen's were initially to press charges but the family of the driver had pulled them aside and offered hush-hush money in exchange for their discretion. Begrudgingly, they agreed. The money wouldn't be enough to save them for life, but it was certainly enough to keep them afloat as their father searched for a new job, and fix major infrastructure issues within the house.
This transaction enraged the now only child, and incited her to throw herself even further into her education. She was never able to find a true coping mechanism, one that worked and was sustainable. Her new solution was whatever the hell worked so she didn't have to feel the loss. Sometimes it was obsessive studying, sometimes that was obsessing over her friend's needs, sometimes it was losing her temper. She'd felt lost and like a failure since the death of her sister, and all she wanted to do was shake that feeling off. Get back to normal. Back to the smart self-assured girl she once was, and if she had to pretend she still was that girl then so be it.
even later life
Graduating high school, Ellie wanted nothing more than to move out as soon as possible. But a close friend group she'd accumulated over her school years kept her in town, while she still could. Even if it hurt like hell to stay there so close to her messy family and the place where her sister died, she knew she should appreciate moments with her friends while she still could. If she had any sanity left in her, it was likely due to her connections with other people that made her not-totally-alone. So she waits idly, torn between wanting to move far away from the pain, and the sadness that she'll be away from the people who made the pain somewhat bearable.

Every summer, before Isabella started high school, she and her sister would be thrown out of the house for "outside time". They'd spend that time wandering around town, usually goofing around at the beach where they'd build sandcastles and even attempted making dolls out of sand. After a long afternoon of playing Princesses or something, they'd usually scurry over to a nearby diner and unwind. The entire school year Ellie would scrimp and save her money so they could enjoy the food there come summertime, and it was absolutely worth it. They'd usually end up chatting while Ellie did her assigned reading or knitted. Though at the time, Ellie would've still preferred they spend time together indoors, she would give anything to have that time back with Isabella.
2. What are your future ambitions? Do you plan to stay in Healdsburg or are you getting out?
Her ultimate goal's to go into event planning, as she often organized dances and such during her school years. She fully intends to leave town, having been accepted into UC Berkley, and isn't sure whether she'll ever return at this point.

Though she wants to leave desperately, she fears she'll never want to return if she does leave. So she wants to experience everything for the last time, just in case she never lives there or steps foot in town again because she loses the strength to return.

Originally from Britain, Ricky moved to Healdsburg when he was only five years old. 1. What's your favourite memory of growing up in Healdsburg?
โOh, actually this is an easy one. So my first Christmas in Healdsburg I was thirteen, right, and Iโd never had a real Christmas tree, like, not even one of those tacky little plastic ones. We could never afford it, didnโt have the space either. But suddenly we had like a whole house and a ceiling you couldnโt touch by standing on your tippy toes, so we drove out to this lot like 10 miles out of town where Sarah, whoโs my step-mom, used to get her trees when she was younger. We were a little hyped up on candy canes so of course we chose the biggest one there. Fully not realizing we couldnโt fit it into the car like, there was no way of getting it in, and the tree dude was pretty serious about his all sales final thing. So we ended up just stuffing it through the back and having to bend it over, we were holding on for dear life the whole ride back and by the time we put it up it had this super noticeable slant in it. We had to like, tape the star on top. But you know we decorated it as a family, was probably the first time I felt at home there since weโd arrived.โ
2. What are your future ambitions? Do you plan to stay in Healdsburg or are you getting out?
โIโm getting out of here as soon as possible. Like, not in a bad way but Iโve got a spot in my dream college and honestly, I mentally checked out of this place as soon as I crossed the stage at graduation. A passionate fellow at the very least, Aurelian is chiefly described as having a deep seated need for perfection and an incredibly strong sense of justice. Those who work hard are given their just reward, and that has never been more true than with him. Despite his propensity for arrogance, it's not out of some deep down sense of inferiority. No, he couldn't stand for that. Instead, any ego that he's built for himself has been painstakingly earned through hardwork and dedication that he knows for an absolute fact that he is the best in the room. He is simply just the best, and anybody that wants to prove him wrong can challenge him in a fair fight and learn that he is correct.
That is, of course, until someone shows him up and beats him. And then the cycle of laboring and toiling until he's improved and fixed his mistakes that he's been shown and he's ready to fight again. He absolutely despises losing and as such fights with everything he has to remain on top. When he decides to tackle a project, he's going to give it everything he's got, or else it just isn't worth doing. And if he fails, then clearly he wasn't up to scratch and he has to fix whatever little bug inside of him there is. Anybody that can't rise to his level or commit to this same "all or nothing" mentality is not worth his time or energy.
He's quick to anger, as is the type of person who is singularly devoted to making themself the best. And nothing frustrates him more than mistakes: both on his side, and on anyone else's side. But he takes the approach of "don't be sorry, be better." Mistakes faced with excuses or "external factors" or the passing of blame onto anything else is met with a fast and intense fury that is unleashed upon the poor soul. A lifetime of discipline doing nothing to quell absolute fury at complacent incompetency. But it should be noted that he never directs his wrath towards anything outside of what he's currently raging at, besides perhaps his immediate environment. It is never directed at those that did nothing wrong. Nor does he ever actually hold a grudge (provided that the person fix their mistake).
This does not make him the most cuddly of people, but at the very least he's consistent. Affection and praise are not to be given freely, but to be earned through work and skill. Talent can only bring you so far if you don't work to cultivate it.
Despite this anger, he doesn't get emotionally hurt very easily, which might surprise people. And he has a very callous way of viewing things. As long as you're alive, then the worst thing has not happened to you. Anything less than that is not worth getting sad over. A very long winded way of saying that he's a flirt and a womanizer and also not particularly bothered by things like "in a monogamous relationship" if someone's girl flirts with him first.

History
The Creation of a Monster
Aurelian was born and quickly abandoned, thrown into the system from a young age and passed around. Inside, this created a deep and inexhaustible rage, alongside a deep seated need to prove everyone that they were wrong in discarding him like trash. He had no way of channeling his anger, instead choosing to lash out at everything and everyone around him. Leading him to be passed off from foster home to foster home in increasingly worse situations, which only made his anger grow and grow.
Eventually he landed in Healdsburg, where he quickly grew the reputation of being the angriest boy in town... and very willing to rip anyone's head off who so much as looked at him funnily. Needless to say, he was not very popular amongst the youth... or really the adults. Really anyone.
He was fully expecting to be sent to another foster home within the year, people found that they couldn't really handle... him. But to his surprise, he found himself adopted by one of the richer families within the town.
No, really. Someone wanted this fucking little shit for life. He was just as surprised as everyone else.
The Taming of a Beast
The Fiocchis were known to be perfect. A loving, doting mother, a strict yet kind father, and two boys. The hardworking older brother and the talented younger brother. They were golden. Old money, who used Healdsburg to raise their children in a quiet beachfront town. They decided to add the tornado of rage and delinquency into their life out of the goodness of their heart.
And Aurelian despised every minute of it. The family was obsessed with appearances and pretention. And he was put in the same room as the little shitstain of an older brother called "Dante" who was supposed to fix him or whatever.
He tried picking a fight within the first 2 hours and thoroughly got his ass handed to him. But while being pinned to the ground by a boy that was much stronger than he looked, Dante brought up a simple point: "You've been given the chance to drag yourself out of the gutter and actually make something of yourself, and all you have to do is play the game a little bit. You'd have to be a fucking idiot to not at least pretend that you like us in order to get inheritance."
Reluctantly, Aurelian agreed that this was a fantastic opportunity. So, under the tutelage of his older brother, he became... nicer. Still angry, still willing to fight people, but much more disciplined, and with a deep hunger to finally beat his brother at something in life. He decided that they were in competition where he was going to fucking best Dante at something. Of course, he never quite succeeded, but he found a deep passion for the culinary arts. Something his parents didn't quite approve of, but found to be a lot more acceptable than whatever path he was going down before. So tentatively, they agreed to fund his exploits into culinary school.
He's come back for the summer, now. And he's... way more disciplined than before, though no less arrogant and hotheaded.

Dante used to take me to get ice cream when I got straight A's throughout high school because he said that "I should be making up for all of the stuff that I missed as a child growing up in the system." hair color/style โฆ curly and dyed blonde hair is styled haphazardly around a cherubic face, full of volume and shine. leave sequoia bored for too long and she has a brand new box of hair dye waiting for her under the sink, never feeling the least bit fearful of the results. on occasions, her curly head of hair is styled to her liking (it is never not done); straightened, in an up-do, or bouncing around her head. lately she has kept it blonde for so long that it is beginning to be mistaken for her natural color and she has no plans to change it.. yet. the only time she isn't in love with her hair is when she has to cough up funds to take care of it.
attire โฆ sequoia's closet comes in a wide range of prices; from garage sale free to brand name expensive. but one thing's for sure, no matter the weather, the pretty petite woman is almost never covered. whether she is dressed in highly feminine silk, lace and flowers or caught embracing dark feminine energy with demonia boots and leather corsets, she will not ever pair a random jacket with her outfits if she didn't pick it out herself. almost 100% of the time her outfits are paired with accessories from a handful of rings, to bangles and beaded bracelets, to layered necklaces. sequoia loves it all, the only time dressing down is being forced in her vintage diner attire. but if she can get away with adding her own touch to the uniform, she will do so.
modifications โฆ sequoia has a few piercings, some totally intentional and some being results of dares she would never turn down. to name a few, she has a nose piercing, ear piercings on both sides, and nipple piercings. however, she doesn't have any tattoos and one day, she is looking to change that.

overview โฆ to society, sequoia is your stereotypical, cookie cutter copy of the deliquency that's "wrong with the new generation today." while her attire doesn't exactly scream angelic to the mortal pair of eyes, an angel is exactly what you would describe her to be once you got a conversation out of her. aside from her occasional bad days, the blonde always tries to wear her heart on her sleeve to a certain extent that won't get her hurt by selfishness.
but every angel has a little devil on their shoulders, and that little red man is always whispering in her ear during her reckless moments. even though sequoia is still able to maintain her boundaries, the same cannot be said when she's under the influence of alcohol. being a lightweight, a friend could pretty much whisper any dare into her ear and she would be up for the challenge. it's not often that it does happen, but someone needs to take her beer or red solo cup away or else she'll jump buck naked into a pool knowing good and well that she cannot swim.
sequoia does a decent job of showing off the confidence within herself. and there is nothing different skin deep that would point to anything different. the shirley temple gal is really as confident as she appears to be, often owning up to her downfalls and shaking them off. in her eyes, the world is too big and the people around her are too caught up in their own lives to care about what she's doing, so why should she dwell on the bad? she can just be better tomorrow.

life in healdsburg, ca โฆ born on the international day of love, sequoia was a ray of sunshine to the dawn family. having been mason and amelia dawn's one and only child, their baby girl coya was exposed to the most purest form of love and joy. one could say that she hit the lotto in the parent department, never having to seek therapy for parent toxicity or having to visit one parent on the weekends because of custody issues.
sequoia had spent her entire life in healdsburg, having been the start of a new dawn generation to occupy the town. she was enrolled in healdsburg's elementary, middle, and high school, finally snatching her diploma just recently. after school shifts at her parent's popular, vintage themed diner kept her preoccupied, only recently loosening the reigns on sequoia when she finally turned 18 years old. and even after she was free to do as she pleased, leaving her place at the diner was something she could not do. but juggling a full time job with her own social life wasn't an impossible task for her. she still manages to make some time for herself and with some friends whenever the opportunity is presented to her.
with her future place as the owner of 'Meals On Wheels' diner and a cozy, fully paid off suburban home, sequoia was thankfully given a lot to look forward to. even while in pampers, she would be financially stable and comfortable living in healdsburg for the rest of her life if her heart desired it.

what's your favorite memory growing up in healdsburg? โฆ "i'd say my fav memory growing up here is.. ummm... well i really can't pick just one. let me think.. wait wait wait, i know! it would have to be whenever my mom and dad took me out every year to their dinner dates because my birthday fell on valentine's day. it was honestly so sweet, us three would share a heart-shaped marble cake and have some strawberry milkshakes at the diner. my dad's employees would sometimes join in on it and plan something special for us. the entire diner was family, actually.. still is to me."
what are your future ambitions? do you plan to stay in healdsburg or are you getting out? โฆ "i really want to just.. well maybe do some traveling outside of healdsburg with some friends. one of those classic spontaneous little roadtrips, ya'know? but i don't have any exact plans as far as college goes. i want to take at least one or two years off from the whole school scene just to spend time doing the things that i want to do. pick up some hobbies! once the college season rolls around, i'll probably just go to the community college in healdsburg until i find my true calling. but i don't see myself leaving permanently, i have a lot to look forward to here."
what here in healdsburg kept you? โฆ "my friends, my mom and dad, the diner.. it's all kept me here. i love it here in healdsburg even though it's small. it's my kind of scene and it has everything i could ever want and need here. if i want to switch it up, i'll plan a trip or two, but this is my home sweet home. i don't need the grand city or the flashy lights to keep me happy.."

What's your favorite memory of growing up in Healdsburg?
"Okay, I used to be terrified of the ocean dude, I saw a glimpse of Jaws at like 6 years old and was done, I thought my parents were out for me by moving to the beach side. My dad would occasionally boat far out and fish and basically forced me to join one day. So I'm losing my shit, my dad's annoyed and tries to reel back in to take me home, but he caught something. He's like fighting with this fishing rod and what's at the end of it? The saddest Garfield plush I've ever seen in my life. In hindsight, it's not that funny, but I calmed down enough to realize the water wasn't gonna kill me. Also Jaws really? Have you seen that goofy ass shark?"
What kept you at Healdsburg, do you plan to leave? What are your future ambitions?
"Of course, most people want to explore the world when they're finally free to, but the familiarity is why I'm still here. I just want to relish this year before I hit the big 2 0, as for afterward..." calli's naturally dark brown hair has been dyed time and time again: first purple, then red, then blue. it's currently a hot pink that has faded into something much softer and far less intense. she keeps it a decent length, usually around her waist. she enjoys playing with her hair and takes creative liberties when styling it often.
aside from her hair, the most immediately noticeable thing about calliope is how small she is. not only in height, with most of her peers towering over her, but in frame as well. her body is all sharp angles and jutting bones. her facial features, however, are small, with does eyes and plump lips, and makeup expertly applied to accentuate them.
calliope tends to adorn her small frame with oversized shirts and hoodies, and baggy pants. more often than not she's wearing neutral colors - blacks and whites. in situations where she's more comfortable, she deviates from this and dons a far more revealing wardrobe, consisting of tight tops and short skirts. regardless of what she's wearing, she always layers several necklaces, usually thick chains of various lengths and designs, and a couple of rings. makeup is always applied before leaving the house, red cheeks, sharp eyeliner, and dark eyeshadow.

Calliope's life has been spent on the sidelines, and she doesn't really mind it. It means she can people-watch without the people paying her much mind or getting uncomfortable. Admittedly, knowing as much as she does about her peers, even the ones she's never directly interacted with, has lead to some awkward conversations. Though she's not the type of person to seek someone out, she's always enthusiastic in conversation and loves when people come up to her.
Though she's far from naive, she does tend to be too quick to trust people, even when she knows she shouldn't; in fact, perhaps more so. She desperately wants to believe that there is good in everyone, and does her best to try to bring it out of them. It helps that she's quick to find something she admires in just about every individual she encounters. She's not easily intimidated or swayed from her typically sunny disposition.

Calliope was born two days prior to her father's 62nd birthday. Her mother was 42 at the time, and her youngest sibling was 20. It had been a quiet childhood, lonely at times, but she had nothing to complain about for the first ten years. They were comfortable and happy most days. Though her mother had been a stay-at-home wife, she was rather uninvolved in her youngest child's upbringing. Calli always supposed the shock of her existence never fully wore off for her mother. She quickly learned how to keep herself busy and invisible. In her father's eyes, Calliope was nothing short of a miracle. He noticed his wife's lack of interest in their daughter and took it upon himself to retire early in order to dedicate himself to her.
Admittedly, this caused immense stress to her parents' marriage, and it's something her mother has never let Calliope forget.
Her father's death came as a surprise only to her. He had been in relatively poor health since she was seven, but a heart attack ultimately took his life the Christmas eve after her tenth birthday. She and her mother found him in his favorite arm chair when they returned from a playdate. Despite knowing her husband would soon pass, Calliope's mother wondered, often out loud, if he would still be alive had she been home rather than entertaining her unwanted daughter's whims.
Having never had a job nor obtained a degree, Calliope's mother found herself selling the gorgeous San Francisco home in which she had built her life and moving back to her hometown of Healdsburg two years later. She had no family left, save for her eldest child who, thankfully, had done well for himself and rented them a property he owned in Healdsburg for way below market value.
Calliope took to Healdsburg immediately, having an amount of freedom to explore that should not be permitted to a child. Her mother very clearly could not care less what her daughter got involved with unless it inconvenienced her. She harbors no hard feelings towards her mother, though she doesn't try to interact with her too much anymore. The only lie she's ever told her mother was that she'll be attending college in pursuit of a biology degree. In reality, she's hoping to acquire her Bachelor of Fine Arts in visual arts.
She seldom talks about her father, and has lately been trying to avoid even thinking about him. She doesn't want to think too hard about his relationship with her mother for fear of ruining the picturesque memories she has of him.

favorite memory?
When my mom and I first moved here, we stayed with her parents 'cause she had, like, no money, and it was super nice. Cramped, yeah, but it was fun. Like two weeks after we'd settled in or whatever, my grandfather took me out to the coast to draw. Mom never liked it much when I did my art thing, so I was super surprised. We were there from dawn 'til dusk just painting the water and the people, and talking about the families we saw. I learned so much about him and just, like, the world. I never really saw him again after we moved out of their place.
why are you here?
Um, a lack of choice, I guess. I didn't really wanna come here to begin with, but we, like, had to. It's cool, though. A space like this is super conducive to my creativity, y'know? Maybe it's for the best that I didn't get accepted for a summer internship. I'm gonna miss this place, though. It's comfortable.
future ambitions?
I mean, this place is super cool and all, but... it kinda makes me sad. Plus, I wanna see the world, y'know? I'm gonna perfect my craft and be a totally dope artist that gets to travel everywhere. I don't even need to be, like, famous or anything, just having a few dedicated collectors is all I really want. I dunno, I just want people to enjoy my work enough that I can live off of it. Tallulah Woods is just below average in height standing at 5'4" and is just starting to grow into an athletic build. All her life she's been quite small, both in height and frame, but in the last few years she's been going to the gym almost obsessively and has reaped the benefits thereof.
Her facial structure is fairly angular which many people say makes her pretty, especially paired with her hazel eyes. Unfortunately many people also discredit that beauty with the fact that her teeth are on the larger side. Lulu no longer really cares what people think of her appearance and as such does what makes her happy. Some days she wears bright and experimental make up, others no make up at all. She is one of the nicest and sweetest people you could ever meet. She loves making people smile and really wishes that everyone could just get along with each other. She is the type to give a stranger in the park flowers if it looked like they were having a bad day.
Another possible explanation for this is how she was raised. Lulu may be naรฏve to how cruel the world can be, but she's very intuitive with people's emotions. Her 'hippy' parents always taught her to love and respect everyone no matter what. They wanted only happiness for her and wanted to protect her from everything bad in the world. This unfortunately means they didn't really teach her how harsh the world can really be. Rather than tell her how to deal with the cruel reality and darkness in the world they chose to ignore it even existed.
Additionally, Lulu is a very curious individual. She loves learning about the world and is absolutely enthralled with it's mysteries. In the rare instances when she isn't found doing one of her many hobbies she adores reading quietly in a corner. She has a tendency to ask a lot of questions, sometimes even too many. There are those who get annoyed with how much Lulu questions so she's been working on suppressing that. Or at least knowing when to keep quiet.
Lulu is quite impressionable and trusting. She finds it hard to comprehend that people would lie to her even if she wouldn't lie to them. Some people just donโt get it. Axel gets it though. The glass isnโt half empty or half full, it just has water in it. Just drink it. He knows whatโs possible and wonโt expect anything more.

Axel isnโt afraid to rush into a risky situation. Not to say heโd put himself in harmโs way, but he isnโt afraid to speak up or rush in to help a friend. Sometimes this does lead to little fights, but people are usually afraid to hit him, he uses that to his advantage. Not that heโd throw hands, but he will run over a toe.

Axel genuinely enjoys his hobbies. If someone asks, he can talk about them for hours. Not on purpose, itโs just word vomit. He canโt help it, itโs just nice to have little joys and to love things in this world.

This guy needs a fuckin nap. Seriously, chronic fatigue is a bitch and all Axel wants at the end of the day is to curl up in bed. Sleepy bitch hours are 24/7. Always the kid whoโs napping in class. Some days itโs worse than others.

Good luck changing his mind. Once a decision is made, heโs not changing it, no matter how good your point is. Itโs like admitting heโs wrong would be a death sentence. Heโll usually get irritated when proof against his opinion comes out, ignoring people for days.
Emotionally unstable
This is a trait Axel was convinced heโd grow out of, but here we are. Small things can ruin his whole day. Quick to anger and sadness, heโll often lash out, unable to control his reactions. He can be sent spiraling by the smallest insult. He canโt simply grit his teeth and bear it.
Vindictive
Axel is least proud of this trait, especially when he so often feels out of control. His genuine desire to hurt others scares him. Thoughts intrude that canโt be ignored. Usually he can control the worst ones, but he has, on more than one occasion, stabbed a pencil into someoneโs leg. Oops.

The scent of the ocean. If thereโs one thing thatโs consistent in Axelโs life, itโs that salty sea air. Even if everything changes and all his friends move away, the sea will stay, and raise 3 millimeters a year. Itโs comfort in situations where there is none.
Future Ambitions
Surviving. Axel never applied to college, which he neglected to tell anyone. College is for people who are smart and ambitious. Maybe one day, but right now heโs taking a gap year while all his friends leave.
What Brought You Back?
Fear. Things are good enough here. What if they get worse if he leaves? What if this is as good as it gets. Without stability, Axel feels he risks much more than a mediocre life.

personalityDaniel is a hardworking individual who will put the needs of those around him before his own. He is a helper through and through--hence why he helps out at his parent's daycare. He is slow to trust those around him, and it often takes time to crack into the shell he has built around himself. He can come off as rather cold and distant at first, but that soon melts away to reveal quite the character. Danny is a quiet, reserved kind of person, not really ever talking too much. That being said, if you get him on the topic of something he takes joy in, good luck getting him to shut up. He can and will talk for hours if allowed, but the twinkle in his eye and the smile on his face could be considered worth it.
