Starting out as a mining town, Owens Burrow (originally called Tungsten) had been a small settlement where people would come to try and make a cheap and quick fortune for iron and the rare silver in the mines. It was at this point that the 'curse of the burrow' apparently started, when the mines collapsed and over 500 people died, or were trapped beneath the rock and dirt. After this, the town had a hard time keeping up with other ones and shut down.
After this, the town was abandoned. Legend goes, however, that a crazed cannibal took refuge in the remaining shacks, and ate people that wandered out to see the town. Of course, this was never proven to true nor false.
Around this same time, the forest around the area, named Widows Woods after one of the wives after the mine collapse, became lively again, as it had less people coming in and out of it. Hunters began hunting in it, but were quickly scared away. Another rumor had set in in their community about a ghostly fox being chased by ghostly huntsmen from colonial times through the trees. Nobody wanted curses on their lineage, so most stayed away.
A few years later, a nearby town had decided to help the area, and the town began to be rebuilt, led by the building manager Charles Leroy Owens. This is where the towns name would later come from. During this planning phase, the area was still mostly abandoned, with people coming every now and again to 'check on it'. It was at this point that a cult began using the abandoned township as a meeting area. Of course, this was still before the Ritual.
One night, on a place which would be called Raven Hill in the future, the cult gathered, which was the size of a small town, and pinned down, roped, and stabbed seventy-two people, all of which were virgins.
Of course, they were found out. That many people going missing all in the same amount of time, and there only being one place to hide them all close by, it was inevitable. The cult was apprehended, though many of them burned to death before they were arrested in the bonfire they had built before-hand. This was when some people began to look at the history of the towns before the abandonment more.
One of the first things built was a small environmentalist project built around a mediocre and a rare willow tree that sits by it. This area would later be known as Summer Park in the modern day. In this park, a small playground was built for kids to play at while their parent walked around and enjoyed the scenery. It was here, that the next tragedy took place: The Swing-Set Murders. A set of four murders that included two young girls and two young boys, all of which had their bodies mangled within the chains of the nearby swing sets after their deaths. These killings only lasted as long as those killings, though the case still remains unsolved. Many casual onlookers theorize that the killer lived in the nearby cave, but this could not be the case, as it had been boarded up for years, since the town had been closed.
A few years later, to celebrate the finishing of the town, a notable family that originated from the settlers that greed to help re-build the place themselves held a masquerade party in their lavish home. Later that night, before anyone had noticed, a fire had broken out at the house, and spread across most of the upper floor. No one survived, and some of the corpses (only those of a few family members) were never found. In honor of this horrible accident, a cemetery was built where their house had burnt down completely, becoming the new graveyard, despite the settlement already having a small one. This is also around the time the rumor of the 'Curse of the Burrow' began circulating, as the town had suspiciously changed its name to the current alias everyone knows it by.
There was a few years of peace, until the early seventies, when two big events happened near the same month: The Crossword Killer, and the Green Hill Massacre. At this time, an old woman (who some believe to have been inspired by the swing-set killings) began kidnapping teenagers, and locking them in her basement. She was an engineer, part of one of the generations helping to build the town. Thus, when her victims awoke in her basement, they were met with some kind of violent death trap. However, if the victim could solve a seemingly simple puzzle, they could live. The first twelve teenagers died, all from varying degrees of paradoxes, riddles, and oxymoron's. The only surviving, and final, victim, was a girl named Jocelyn Janson, who was able to break her trap apart and escape the house before being caught. As she was running she heard what seemed like the old woman screaming, not in anguish, but in pain and sorrow. Then a loud thud.
The Crossword Killer (named after the paper she always read when eating breakfast by her front window) had died from rat poison dousing her from her ceiling fan, which also lined her back door and fence.
The Green Hill Massacre took place the next month, in which a supposed gas leak went undetected in the high school, and when it was noticed, an immediate and chaotic evacuation was called. After the building was cleared and fumigated, a small group of students of varying ages and grades were found missing. After a thorough search, the students bodies were found distributed between the five janitorial closets respectively, each killed from different method involving the neck. One had screamed for help, but the sirens and intercom had drowned her out.
The 'curse', if it exists, has been docile for a while now. Of course local urban legends, like the Skinwalker in the Woods, the Clocktowers ghosts, and Stumpy, the armless tree creature, come to light, but nothing awful has ever been connected to them.
[div class=over]locations[/div]
The Sirens - The system of horns and sirens connected to almost every important and old building in town. The old mining settlement used it to wake up or alarm the people of anything important, but nowadays it sits in the dust, useless and broken.
Green Hill High School - The school that the main characters all attend. The location of the massacres and the place where they congregate on weekdays during school hours. It has a small library, but other than that nothing noteworthy goes on here.
Raven Hill - An ominous hill that lies on the outskirts of town, where a ritual sacrifice took palce years ago. The grass at the top is always dead, and people speculate that black magic makes it so.
The Fort - A make-shift tree-house on the ground the main characters use to have horror marathons outside of their parents eyes. Its vaguely designed on the inside like a 90's lounge, as that's the aesthetic they enjoy the most. It's located past the Tracks and on the border between the town and the Woods.
Old Waltson Cemetery - The main graveyard used by the town. Named after the site used to build it, where the Great Waltson Fire claimed many lives in a freak accident. It's said that you can sometimes see the ghosts of the guests, lurching towards an unknown savior to help them escape from the unseen ancient fire.
Summer Park - A small park that contains some nice senery, lots of trees, and a small clearing with a pond and a lone willow tree kept up by the park owners. A playground nobody uses sits nearby, rusty and old, as well as a boarded up cave that hasn't been moved since it's creation. Also the site of the Swing-Set Murders. Located near Raven Hill.
The Unmarked Graveyard - A burial site that was once the only place to bury your dead before the Waltson Fire. None of the graves are unmarked of course, it's simply a cool name for a duty place.
Widows Woods - The forest that surrounds the town from all sides. It has many legends based on it, such as the Ghostly Hunters, Stumpy the Tree Creature, and even a supposed Skinwalker stalking anyone who dares venture past the train tracks.
Town Hall - Set in the center of the town, this medium-sized building is a place where anyone can visist, and exhibits some of its history (though hides most of its tragedies from the outside world). Contains mostly offices.
Tungsten Township Church - The local church, along with the only bell tower. The religious folk here are not smothering in any sense of the word, and the atmosphere around this place is very innocent and pure. Its very small, including some pews, some backrooms, and a place of a youth group by the lobby.
The Abandoned Railway - Along with the forest, the border between nature and civilization is a circle of train tracks that are covered with moss and weeds. A failed attempt at a train charter resulted in the route being cut off, and the tracks broken down so they make a complete circle around the town, with no one around to ride them.
Burrow Police Department - A small police station with a generally well-stocked staff that are generally well aware of the going-ons around town.
Mickie's Arcade - A good hang-out for most kids and young adults. Includes a wide variety of less commercialized arcade games and even less with their snacks and off-brand sodas.
Main Street - Where many important buildings are located, including almost all of the ones above, as well as the brand new Poppies Antiquities and Curiosities Shoppe.
Burrow Public Library - A large-ish library that has a great number of records involving the towns background. It's always open, even during the nighttime, as it doubles for a home for the only librarian. [/div][/div][/div] [div class=first] [div class=words][div class=i]H[/div]aunting
