An RP About Villains
It was exactly a decade ago when the final battle took place; the last dance of good and evil where earth’s greatest warriors fought viciously to determine who could claim final dominance over the other. A conflict of attrition in which countless lost their lives in a futile war of ideology, wherein the only victor was the crows that feasted upon the corpses of the deceased.
When the dust settled: the mightiest heroes of the planet all lay slain, buried side by side with their greatest foes: the age of the costumed vigilante brought to an end not with a whimper, but rather a bang. The last hurrah of the golden age.
Things were never quite the same after that.
With the death of the Age of the Superhero; new measures were put into place: a significant crackdown upon anyone with an inclination towards donning spandex and tights to challenge muggers and street thugs. It simply went out of fashion, and much as there were no heroes to be challenged, crime too reverted to it’s more traditional roots: no more superpowered bank robbers with brightly coloured suits and gimmicky themes.
A certain level of normalcy had returned to the world.
But there were still those that remembered.
Those that could not forget.
Official records claim to have identified all known individuals who had perished within those final days: everyone who fought and died for their archaic conflict of right and wrong, however such archives have proved to be incomplete. There were cracks to be slipped through.
Glasshill, Colorado is an idyllic little town in which the crime rate is low, and few bad things ever occur. It’s peaceful, quiet, some might even say boring though certain events have conspired to shift such perceptions.
The morning paper reported upon a terrible happening: ‘Local High School Vice Principal Renaud Horace found murdered in Glasshill Park, dragged from his car in the late hours of the evening, leaving a trail of blood that crawled across almost a half mile.’ An awful sight. A terrible tragedy. But such was merely the surface.
To those that knew him well, Horace was known by a very different alias: Doctor Disaster, master telepath and founding member of The Sentinels: a group of costumed crooks who had gained notoriety during the golden age of heroes.
He had given up that life long ago.
They all had.
After the final battle, those few who had been lucky enough to survive their scrape with death had scattered into the wind, leaving their previous vices behind them to carve out new lives and identities without the weight of the past. Forgetting the terrible things which they had done.
The Sentinels had been lucky.
Glasshill, Middle-Of-Nowhere was a fresh start.
Things had been going so well.
Horace’s death was a wake-up call.
It was no ordinary murder.
It was meticulously planned revenge.
An old grudge reignited.
Someone was coming to exact justice.
This RP is set in a world, where ten years ago one great battle between heroes and villains resulted in the death of most known costumed vigilantes, and essentially brought an end to the idea of both superheroes and villains as any real presence in the world anymore.
The actual RPing takes place in the small town of Glasshill, Colorado, where a group of former super villains have been retired for the better part of a decade, after abandoning their criminals ways in favour of safer pursuits: hiding under new aliases and identities and generally starting new lives for themselves. However, old memories are soon brought to the surface, when one of their number is killed under suspicious circumstances, and general alarm is raised that someone from the olden days has found them, and intends to hunt them down for what they once were.
I'm hoping for a character focused RP, where we can explore the relationships and mentalities of people that used to be the highest levels of criminals, and how they cope with leaving the life behind/being potentially drawn back into it.
I hope the idea at least interests someone.
