Adunni is constantly looking for ways to expand her knowledge, she’s determined to become the best that she can be. She isn’t one to slack off or waste time. She’s an excellent problem solver who can keep her calm in stressful situations. Coming from a large family has made her rather observant as well. She has a knack for reading people and situations while figuring out how to go about them. Adunni is a fast learner. She soaks up information like a sponge and rarely forgets things when she’s at her best. She’s great at adapting to different situations. Adunni is very much a book worm and history enthusiast, she enjoys the subjects immensely and her eyes just light up when she speaks about them.

Her image is important to her as she believes it not only affects her but her family as a whole. Because of this she makes it a goal to always look presentable and put together. HISTORY
Background:

Amahle comes from a large family of six, with her being the youngest of the bunch. Her family could be considered amongst the elite in California. Her parents are both renowned professionals in the medical field, having written books and received rewards for their advancements in the medical field. While her siblings all have impressive careers themselves. From the time she could walk her parents held high expectations for her, just as they did with her siblings. Her parents were cold and stern individuals who valued hard work and being accomplished. They happened to be firm believers in tough love as well. As the youngest Amahle tended to be overlooked by her family. She worked hard to catch up with her siblings in order to be praised and grab the attention of her parents. Amahle was sure that they didn’t realize it but they favored those with the highest achievements, as it brought pride to their family name. To her parents their children are tools to raise the prestige and wealth in their family, rather than people to nurture. Amahle was taken care of by the help for most of her life. She had a governess to teach her etiquette and the ways of high society. And a variety of tutors for things like basic school subjects, instruments, and dance. Amahle did all of this without complaint in hopes of gaining her parent’s love

In school Amahle advanced with impressive speed and as a result she became one of the top students throughout her years. Her parents praised her but yet again her siblings outshined her. With the oldest moving on to start families and settle down finally the attention was shifted to her yet not in the way she had expected. Amahle’s parents placed a weight upon her shoulders, now it was her turn to bring honor to her family by working harder and behaving accordingly. Amahle could do little seeing as she had wanted their recognition for years, even if it becomes too much for her at times. Even if it felt as if she was being crushed under the weight of their expectations. And in the spotlight praise became scarce. Her parents expected her to do these things and believe that she didn’t deserve praise for things that she should already be doing.

When it was time to attend college Adunni surprised and shamed her parents when she didn’t go into the medical field like them and they were quick to let her know. Even now things are tense between them because of the path she wants to take.

eliza is your cookie cutter "gifted and talented" kid. being at the top of her honors classes since she could remember, she adapted a very determined and focused way to go about life. once her mind is set on something, she won't back down until it's achieved. however, this leads to eliza not knowing how to unwind and relax. she's always so focused on her newest project or bettering her education to get into law school.

however, while most people would think she's the mom friend of her group, they're only partially right. while she does always worry about her friends when they party and while she is always the one they call to drive them home, eliza's been really left out of the "college experience". she never lets herself flirt with anyone or go to parties. even over breaks, she just stays at home, keeping to herself.

JULY 19TH, 2000
on july 19th, 2000 in glendale, california, elizabeth paige harper was born to branson and camile harper. eliza was born as an only child into the incredibly wealthy harper family. being wealthy in california is certainly a feat and says a lot about the wealth of the harper family. the harpers have been an incredibly wealthy family for the past five generations, acquiring wealth and continuing it pass it down to the eldest son. what business made them so wealthy? a law firm, of course. the harpers were known for being some of the best lawyers in the state.
so it was startling when branson and camile's first child was a daughter, the harpers always having an eldest sons. but being pregnant with & birthing eliza left camile unable to have another child, so her parents were determined on making her the first female heir to the harper law firm. so ever since she could read, eliza's been groomed and controlled by her parents to set her on the path for law school.
she was fluent in three languages by the time she was 12, english, spanish, and french. as soon as she could, her parents had her skip a grade & go into as many honor, AP and dual credit classes she could be in. they forced her to study and do homework for five hours after school, every day, and never accepting less than a 95 on anything. assignments, quizzes, tests, everything.
there would be a few times where eliza would get a 90 or 92 on a pop quiz or particularly difficult homework and man would she have it in for herself. her parents would never beat her, but sometimes she wish they would. they would verbally abuse her, guilt trip the hell out of her, and make her feel like garbage and completely worthless. starting her junior year of high school on, eliza has never made less than a 95 on anything, just like her parents wanted.

JANUARY 23RD, 2019
the second semester of her senior year in high school, eliza knew she wanted to go to heartley univeristy, even if it was so close to her parents, she just wanted to get away. but she loved being in california. it also helped that once she was officially valedictorian of her graduating class, and she had an almost perfect SAT score on 1570, they offered her a full ride to their university, whatever her major may be.
of course her first instinct was to go for their pre-law. her family wouldn't accept her having any other major. it just made sense, eliza was in the youth and government club and dominated every competition they went to. everyone who knew her knew she would make one of the best lawyers in the state of california.
however, eliza has always hated it. while she's amazing at what she does, she dreads going to class everyday and she dreads having to look for internships and she dreads filling out law school applications.
she's at a turning point where she's considering switching her major without her parents knowing.

OCTOBER 3RD, 2000
levi nolan bishop was born to haley and eric bishop in queens, new york. like most people living in new york, they weren't the wealthiest family in the world, but they were wealthier than most. levi grew up being the older brother to one little sister, lillian. lilly and levi were only two years apart and were as close as any two siblings could be. lily was levi's best friend all the way to age nine, when she went missing.
lily always walked home after school, and for the longest time, she did so by herself, since levi had after school activities. just one day, whenever levi got home, his house was surrounded by police cars & his parents rushed over to him. apparently they hadn't seen lily since they walked to school that morning. levi didn't understand what was happening, he was confused as to why his sister wasn't home. she was always home before him. for a week, levi was wondering where his sister was.
his parents finally had to break the news to him, which took a while for levi to completely understand. someone just, picked up his sister? and took her away? it broke levi's heart and he was out of school for about a month, completely depressed.
ever since then, levi's parents became crazy over protective. they were already pretty protective over levi and lily ever since they were born, but ever since lily was kidnapped, they just became even more protective of levi. no parties, no sleep overs, they signed up to be chaperones at every school event, and if they couldn't, then levi wasn't allowed to go. levi never walked to school anymore, and he wasn't even allowed to be home alone. if anything, he was told to wait at school till his mom or dad could come get him & if they couldn't, they would ask one of his teachers to drive him home.
this went on even through high school, and levi completely understood where they were coming from. if anything, levi was terrified any time he was alone for any reason. up to this day, his sister's never been found.

JULY 17TH, 2004
the summer before levi turned four, he showed interest in dance. his parents were more than willing to sign him up for dance lessons and man, was levi a natural. they started him in ballet and he was just, amazing. by the time he was five, it was like he was born dancing. very quickly, his dance instructors saw how talented levi was and recommended him parents to take him to a studio where he would learn more styles of dance.
and that's what they did. by the time he was eight, he was an amazing ballet and contemporary dancer. as the years went on, he was better and better. when his sister went missing, he stopped dancing for a good while. he fell into a deep state of depression, not being able to feel anything for months. finally, he asked to go to the studio. his parents were just excited their son was out of his room. they immediately took him to the studio & he danced there for hours. as the tears streamed down his face, he realized that this was his outlet, dancing was for him.
that day at the studio kick started him to continue to dance. every spare moment he was able, he was dancing. his parents even cleared out a room in their house & put some mirrors up for levi to dance at home; since they wouldn't let him stay at the studio without one of them present. but he still managed to become one of the best dancers in the state, winning competition after competition.
so when college came around, levi knew he wanted to go to hartley university. they had one of the best dance programs in the country. he knew he could only minor in dance, so he settled on being a theatre art major. couldn't be the worst thing in the world to dance on broadway, right? the problem? HU is located all the way in california. levi's parents always thought that he would do a community college or do online college, something close to home. but levi was ready to leave and become his own person. with a lot of convincing and talking and interviews with HU campus security, his parents agreed to let him apply. of course he got in, he even got a huge dance scholarship that helped pay for over half of his tuition.

TW: Eating disorders, self-harm, mental illness stuff

Mochi was born in Tokyo to Daichi and Hanako Kozue. They were sickly from the beginning, with very delicate skin, poor eyesight and a heart condition that had them in and out of the hospital regularly. They were often behind in school, which had them ridiculed by teachers and students alike due to Japan's heavy focus on academic success. They would often lie and say they were feeling alright, only to pass out in gym or in the middle of the hallway. Parental disappointment had them constantly seeking attention.

This worsened when they had a realization about their gender identity, and considered themself a girl for awhile. Anorexia nervosa kicked in around high school, in the hopes that being thinner would make them more feminine. They also took up self-harming to cope with constant depression and loneliness. They wanted the attention of their peers more than anything, but were often seen as a weirdo.

In their last year of high school, they finally began participating in the menhera (mental healthers) subculture. They finally had a group of people like them, who could understand what they were going through. They took up music in an attempt to deal with their constant urges towards the violent and suicidal. They set their sights on America, under the impression that it'd be better for them somehow. (Whether or not this impression is correct has yet to be determined.) Their parents wanted them to stay home, and become successful, but Mochi had no interest. As soon as they got accepted into HU, they packed their things and left without looking back.









Despite seeming flighty, strange and airheaded, Mochi is a constant whirlwind of thoughts. Their creativity comes from severe mental anguish that has continued to be unchecked over several years. They're concerning, but hate to be seen that way, and often play the role of the delightful comic relief. They adore attention, and will do whatever it takes to get it. However, their opinions can change on a whim and they can be very unpredictable and emotionally unstable.

Not much to say here. Chuck was raised in a totally normal Jewish family. His parents were workaholics and weren't home often, so he mostly raised himself, but he's relatively average and had an average life. He grew up in Brooklyn, began identifying as male in early high school, and came out in senior year right before he began attending college. He had very few friends, and largely kept to himself, as he will continue to do.









Chuck is a wallflower in the truest sense. He's anxious, soft, and worries about everything. He works just as hard as his parents did, and generally his idea of "fun" involves a night in with some sudoku or crossword puzzles. Man needs to loosen up. He loves animals, and also a lot of other dorky shit like video games. He's a bit sensitive, and doesn't trust easy.

Benji was born in a small town in northern Australia, to Veronica and Thomas Harris. For the first eight years of his life, he was happy, and he grew up as most kids in his town did: running wild outdoors, playing video games and attending school. He and his twin sister, Penelope were inseparable and spent essentially all of their time together. Shortly after his eighth birthday, however, his mother discovered that his father was having an affair with a younger American women, and they effectively got divorced. Thomas Harris got custody of Benji, and his mother gained custody of Penelope, and moved to Germany, his mother home country. Things weren’t too bad for Benji until around his twelfth birthday, when his father went off the deep end and began to drink excessively, becoming violent. Benji never defended himself and wound up in the hospital on numerous occasions due to broken bones, deep cups and even burns. This continued until he graduated high-school, and when he got accepted to HU, he wasted no time moving to the America’s. He hasn’t spoken to his father since.









Benji is stubborn, quiet and antisocial, preferring to speak onto make some sarcastic retort or to make everyone feel stupid. He doesn’t do it on purpose, most of the time, it’s just the way he talks. He is incredibly intelligent, and goes through no pains to hide it. He is brutally honest, taking no care to protect someone’s feelings by lying: he’ll tell you how it is, no matter what. He can come off as standoffish and aggressive, but really he doesn’t care enough to be either of those things. He’s constantly listening to music, and even write his own, on piano and guitar. He can sing, too, but he won’t ever do that in front of people. Benji is extremely observant, and is able to pick up little clues about someone from the moment they meet, and is skilled at knowing when someone is lying. Benji hates being alone, but won’t make any effort to approach people. When interacting, he finds himself more often lost in thought than an active participant. On top of all this, Benji has insomnia, and during the rare times he dies sleep, he has nightmares, resulting in him waking up drenched in his own sweat and unable to breath. Because of his father, any and all touch beyond sexual interactions leave him anxiety ridden and sometimes even cause panic attacks.

Cameron was born on July 18th, 1999, on a scorcher of a summer day to Holly and John Turner, in Savannah, Georgia. The first of six children, Cam’s life was certainly never boring. On top of constant babysitting, Cam had to help work on his family’s ranch. Most young people would hate it, but Cam found he’d rather do nothing else, until his eleventh birthday when his aunt, an art teacher herself, bought him his first camera, easel and set of paints. From that moment on, he was hooked. (God I love this aesthetic. Artsy Vintage Cowboy? Heck yeah). It got to the point where he didn’t have enough canvasses to keep up with him, and so his parents cleared out their old barn, turning it into an art studio. The walls, floors, the feelings, railing—everywhere—is covered in paintings, drawings, sculptures. In the loft are hundreds of finished paintings, pieces of pottery, and drawings. When he came to college, he was sad to have to leave it behind. He can only hope that his five siblings didn’t trash the place.









Cameron is your perfect southern gentleman: charming, sweet and eager to please. He’ll do anything to help anyone, even if it gets in the way of something he’s doing. Coralis was born on St. Patricks day in LA to Jessica and Marcos Bentley, two of the most successful business people in California. Her childhood was a blur of dance lessons, tutors, foreign languages, private schools and big publicity events, leaving her without much of a chance to go wild as most children ought to. Towards the end of her high-school years, she started acting out and hanging with the wrong crowd, resulting in her hospitalization after a party, when she had accidentally overdosed on alcohol and whatever combination of pills she had popped that night. Her parents tried their best to shelter her from the press during this incident, but it inevitably made the head lines, effectively ruining her “golden child” reputation. Despite this, she graduated top of her class and was accepted to HU for psychology.









Coralis is a walking contradiction, to say the least. She’s overly confident and arrogant, but gives compliments freely. She’s highly intelligent, but has no common sense. She uses sarcasm as a weapon, but is brutally honest. When you first meet her, Cora is hard to get along with. She’s loud, bossy and spontaneous, but once you get to know her, she’s incredibly sweet, loyal and will fight anyone who messes with the people she cares about. She’s a bit of a stoner (shhh), so often times she is overly laid back and relaxed, which could be irritating when something important is happening. Cora has a bit of a temper, and when she’s angry you’d best not get in her way. She’s stubborn and will sto at nothing to get what she wants.

Backstory:
Nika had a very priveleged upbringing, growing up in a posh Upper East Side loft, the only child of two successful artists. She has always been impulsive to a pernicious degree, bouncing from one half-cocked whim to the next like a manic pinball, never actually following through or accomplishing anything. If she does manage to start a new endeavor, she can't help but sabotage it immediately. It wasn't uncommon for Nika to ditch boarding school, and now college for days at a time, running off to some exotic locale with a new lover or friends she just met. These chaotic relationships fizzle out quickly, and soon enough she's back home, ready to blissfully start the cycle anew. The Darlings' laissez-faire approach to parenting always allowed this behavior to go unchecked, leaving her free to self destruct into adulthood.

She seems unaware, or unwilling, to face the full extent of her issues; she'd describe herself as merely "flighty." Her parents constantly bailing her out of trouble means she rarely has to deal with the negative consequences of her actions, shielding her from the reality that she's a colossal fuck-up.

Nika has arrived at 21, embarking on a new year at Hartley with a string of failed classes and relationships in her wake. Will she finally buckle down and get serious about her degree this year? Or will she flunk out once and for all, free to flutter off on her next flight of fancy?

Basic Info
Oceanus Lorenzo, also known as Ocean, LoLo, or Buddy, is just another 21 year old neuroscience major who was born and raised in Brooklyn. He identifies as bisexual, both romantically and sexually, although he leans more towards men. (His face claim is a random person I found on Pinterest.)

Ocean has a tough shell that can rather hard to break. Not even he has truly figured himself out yet. At first glance, he's just another "social reject" with split-dyed hair and piercings, nothing too special about him. And that's exactly how he sees himself. But there is more that lies beneath the surface. Despite his "edgy" exterior, he is actually a very kind-hearted, protective, and creative person. Although he can be a bit of a workaholic at times, he does his best to find time to drink and have fun at parties and whatnot.

He is sometimes fun person to be around, but in reality, he can be shy at times. After a few drinks, he does perfectly fine in social situations, but he is rather self-conscious. He can also be very stubborn about some subjects, and it can be difficult to change his mind.

(TW: Abuse) Ocean was born on October 25, 1999 in the lobby of a Brooklyn apartment building. He was soon after given the name "Oceanus" because his mother enjoyed spending her time on the beach. After receiving a call about Ocean's birth, the newborn's father abandoned his wife with no explanation. Perhaps Ocean was a mistake.

On December 4, 2012, Ocean told his mother, who was still regretting her decisions, that he was attracted to boys. She responded to this by inflicting pain onto him until he went unconscious (not going to get into too much detail). She then gave a rather half-assed apology and moved on. Since that incident, Ocean has spent most of his time out of his apartment, usually drinking with his very small friend group and going to parties.

Ocean has always seen college as an opportunity to leave his house for good, which sounded like a dream to him. Freedom. After hearing about Hartley University, he applied and, thankfully, was accepted. After his high school graduation, he immediately packed his things and left his apartment, setting forth towards Hartley University.

Basic: Aspen is, in the most basic sense, a flirt. He could charm the pants off of anyone without even trying, and enjoys doing so, even if he’s not interested in the person. When he actually does try...good luck, is all I’m saying. He’s boisterous, loud and charismatic, and the life of whatever party he’s at. He’s confident and can come across as arrogant, but will also be the one to hype you up when you’re feeling down on yourself. He’s a notorious player, and has probably slept with three quarters of the dorm, if not more.

Aspen also has a deeply emotional and sensitive side to him, one that not many people have seen, nor will they see. Chances are, if Aspen opens up to you about anything—even something so simple as a small thing bothering him—he really cares about you, and is able to trust you. Once you have his friendship, you have it for life and he’ll always be on your side, no matter what. And if he likes you beyond that, he’s willing to do anything for you. Aspen becomes super insecure and soft around people he likes, something that annoys him to no end.

Backstory:

Aspen was born to Nicole and Thomas Greene in Phoenix, Arizona, on one scorching day in August. He and his twin sister, Adeline were all but inseparable, spending every moment they could together. His parents, both successful business people, were often away on some business trip, leaving them with whatever nanny was available at the time. Because of this, Aspen has never been particularly close to his parents, and instead began relying on his music teacher, Jack Benton, as a source of advice, comfort and anything else he needed. The man all but raised him, often spending long nights with Aspen and Adeline when they were having a particularly rough time. Middle and high school passed in a blur of color and sound, and he graduated solidly in the middle of his class and ready to attend HU for music. Around this time, however, Jack was diagnosed with malignant brain cancer, and Aspen refused to go. After several weeks of Jack pleading with Aspen, and several promises to go on whatever medication possible, Aspen reluctantly agreed to go. His first year passed, and Jack soon went into remission, much to the relief of Aspen and Adeline. Jack, however, is still at risk for it developing again.

She loves her brother more than anyone, even if he annoys her to no end. They always have each other’s backs, no matter the situation. Adeline can come across as serious and uptight when you first meet her, but once you get to know her there are so many facets to her personality that you learn something new about her everyday. She’s a great listener, and an even better advice giver, but she has a hard time opening up to other people and taking advice in return. She also has sort of a temper, which she tries not to let get the best of her.

Appearance: Adeline is of average height, standing at 5’7”. She is lithe but athletic, due to years of dance. She has naturally curly dark brown hair, much like Aspen’s, which she prefers to straighten. Her eyes are hazel, though unlike Aspen’s they are more brown than green. Adeline has a gently sloping nose that leads to a full, pink mouth that contains a perfect white smile. She has one simple on her left cheek.

Body mods: Addie has only two tattoos, one along her ribs that says “no matter where, no matter what” and another, twin to Aspen’s of their birthday. Her ears and nose are pierced as well.

Backstory:

Adeline was born to Nicole and Thomas Greene in Phoenix, Arizona, on one scorching day in August. She and her twin sister, Aspen were all but inseparable, spending every moment they could together. Her parents, both successful business people, were often away on some business trip, leaving them with whatever nanny was available at the time. Because of this, Adeline has never been particularly close to his parents, and instead began relying on his music teacher, Jack Benton, as a source of advice, comfort and anything else she and her brother needed. The man all but raised her, often spending long nights with Aspen and Adeline when they were having a particularly rough time. Middle and high school passed in a blur of color and sound, and she graduated top of her class and ready to attend HU for music with a minor in philosophy. Around this time, however, Jack was diagnosed with malignant brain cancer, and Aspen refused to go. Adeline, not wanting to leave without her twin, chose to stay as well. After several weeks of Jack pleading with Aspen, and several promises to go on whatever medication possible, Aspen reluctantly agreed to go. Adeline’s first year passed, and Jack soon went into remission, much to the relief of Aspen and Adeline. Jack, however, is still at risk for it developing again.

Basic: Kai is a tough but to crack, and has a very complex personality. He’s outgoing, charming and kind, but also has a deeply serious and sensitive side that shows it’s face more than he’d like, especially after his mum died. He’s always ready with a bad joke to make you laugh, some hilarious anecdote to reenact, or obscure Australian lingo that will leave you more confused than anything. He is extremely intelligent, and uses that to his advantage often, even taking to tutoring his fellow classmates. He’s always willing to help with whatever he can, and will drop whatever he’s doing to fix a problem. Whether you need solid advice, a shoulder to cry on, or cuddles from a 6’4” Australian giant, he’s there for the people he cares about. There are, however, days where Kai doesn’t feel like talking to anyone, or going out and doing anything fun. On days like that, he’ll often sit in his room, brooding and quiet, almost a completely different person. This happens more often than he’d like, and he wishes it wasn’t so. Overall, Kai is the best friend someone can ask for, and will follow you to the ends of the Earth once you’ve earned his trust.

He’s well built and muscular from years of working with his Uncle building houses, and countless hours spent in the hot Australian sun have given him a golden tan. He has grey eyes fringed by dark lashes. His hair is a light, golden brown, often left to fall in messy waves over his forehead. He has a gentle, lopsided grin framed by two dimples, one that is often on full display. Dark circles often line his eyes, from lack of sleep.

Body mods: Kai has the entire solar system tattooed in various places on his body. The sun is on his right shoulder blade, and the moon over his heart. The planets, as well as several constellations are all over. He also has his nose pierced.

Backstory:

Kai was born to Greta and Harrison Vernon on Valentine’s Day in Adelaide, Australia.For the first five years of his life, everything was perfect, until his father was discovered having an affair with an American woman. His parents were soon divorced, his mother taking custody of Kai. Harrison moved to America, and started a new life there, not bothering to contact Kai at all. Growing up without a father took its toll on Kai, but having a loving and supportive mother made life almost normal. Around the age of twelve, Kai began to help his Uncle Norm renovate and build houses, something he found he enjoyed immensely. School was easy for Kai, and he soon grew to love reading and writing, especially poetry. High school was a blur, and he graduated as valedictorian of his class. Shortly after, he was accepted to HU. The summer after his first year in college, he and his mother were driving home from their annual trip to Queensland, and they were hit by a trucker who had fallen asleep at the wheel. His mother was in the ICU for three weeks before dying. Kai had suffered a serious concussion, six broken ribs, a collapsed lung and a few other broken bones and was in the hospital for over a month. He didn’t find out about his mother until it was his uncle picking him up, and not his mum.

Grisha is the son of a relatively influential Russian mafia family, which also has involvements with various yakuza groups and mob families in South Korea. He's the youngest of his family, below his two brothers, Sasha and Igor II, and his sister, Nadiya. Thus, he's often left to the wayside when it comes to family business due to his rather unfortunate baby brother status. Regardless, he's seen shit in his life that would probably make you wish you were dead. His childhood was probably one you wouldn't wish on anybody, and involved him holding a lot of guns and almost dying several times.

The Leontyev family has had an ongoing feud with the Brandt family in Germany, back when they were still centered in St. Petersburg generations ago, due to an illicit marriage between a Brandt son and a Leontyev daughter, among other things. This feud has lasted even after the Leontyevs hightailed it all the way across Russia in the 50's. Grisha's father, Igor, caught wind of a Brandt son heading to an American university undercover. He saw this as the perfect chance to do away with the young Brandt, and also to give Grisha a chance to prove himself. Grisha jumped at the idea and immediately applied, being accepted due to his solid credentials in school. Grisha had his own bone to pick with the family after he was caught in a shootout that severely wounded his shoulder, leaving him with a scar and a left arm that doesn't move all that well.









Under almost all circumstances, Grisha is an incredibly serious and intense presence. He doesn't understand humor well, isn't very polite, and has a one-track mind. This is the kind of stuff you'd expect from a kid who was allowed to hold a kalashnikov at the age of 9. What you don't expect is the side of him you might see if you're his friend. Perhaps it's due to a lack of a real childhood, but Grisha is very emotionally stunted and immature. He can be pretty easily bribed with ice cream, loves himself a good dick joke, and can even be a bit of a cuddler if you catch him in the right mood. He'll protect the things he sees as worth protecting, and generally discourages others from getting too involved in his life.
