The softest of breezes brushed by the greenhouses that resided on the side of the castle. The beginning of the school year had just started and with it, the end of summer dawned as the fall air came to take its place. Laying in a nook between the greenhouses and the castle, Anya lay with a book placed lazily over her face as a means of blocking the unwelcome sun that attempted to ruin her nap. Her sleeves were rolled up, and her robe was being used as a makeshift pillow. She surely looked to be one of the lazier of the students at Hogwarts. And, she was at times, especially that morning. Anya opted for more sleep that morning over attending her Charms class, finding the dreadful class exhausting merely for the fact it bored her to tears.

A sound...the sound of chatter stirred her. She lifted the book from her eyes slightly, shielding them from the sun all the while, as she peered through a groggy haze to see if anyone had found her hiding spot. The voices began to dissipate after a few moments, and the tension in her back left her. She blinked her eyes a few times, waiting to make sure they were gone. She pursed her lips, despising the fact her peaceful rest had been momentarily interrupted. She adjusted her robe, fluffing it a bit before placing her head back down. She had cut off most of her hair before the school year started, so she tried to compensate for the lack of cushion she was used to. It was definitely shorter than she was used to, but it was better for the summer.

As she meticulously readjusted the book back over her eyes, she concluded that some classes must be ending and students might be making their way back to their dormitories or other classes. Maybe she should do the same, but her spot in the grass that she had claimed back in her third year was too comfortable to move from as she started to doze again.

Cordelia beamed as she placed the last of her materials into her cumbersomely large knapsack. Her first class of the day had been positively delightful. Professor Sprout had started the class with the discussion of eichhornia crassipes and planned on having the class grow them in the controlled environment of the greenhouse. Cordelia took a step outside and took a sharp intake of the cold and dry air, cold and dry compared to the hot and humid greenhouse anyway. It was actually a rather lovely day, with a gentle breeze.

Jax roamed the mostly-empty halls of Hogwarts castle, leisurely making his way from the library back to the greenhouses. He had managed to secure a free period to free up his morning this year and liked to make use of the time by reading in the library. Sometimes he read books related to his classes, or just general knowledge books about subjects he would most likely be taking in his next semester, but mostly, he ended up finding something in the fiction section and read that instead. It was incredible what sorts of stories wizards could come up with.
After the library he would take a short walk before class, often stopping by the greenhouses to ask professor Sprout herbology questions. It was Jax's favorite subject and he always hungered to know more about it.
This morning was no different and after packing up the books he had checked out of the library, he had made his way across the castle to the greenhouses with a question about Fanged Geraniums.
It was a nice day outside. Sunny with a slight breeze. Cool but not cold. Enjoyable.

A new year, a new start. Right? Well, that was the initial thought. Although, when you're like Aislin, of who lived within the castle year round it can sometimes be hard to determine when an old year ends and a new one begins. In fact, being so caught up in her studies and practices that she'd participated in over the summer break; the only way she knew a new year was beginning was allegedly by the fact that:

A.) The castle was filling by familiar and non-familiar faces.

B.) She'd heard people talking about a sorting to be taken place by the afternoon in the feeding hall.

"Is it that time again, already?"

Indeed it was, a time when students from the regions of which Hogwarts reigned and taught had been called on by owl, announcing their natural abilities and acceptance into Hogwarts, School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Heck, just two years ago Aislin herself was brought to the school. It was, for sure, an exciting time to be alive!

Nevertheless, ten days have passed and the new students were settling into their dorms as well as their classes. Friends were being made by students new and old, some to last a lifetime, others? A few days -- At most.

Although, for Ailsin herself? She could be found just outside the castle gates by the greenhouses. That was her first class, after all. It was nothing hard, something to do with Eichhornia Crassipes and how to grow them. Aislin had even been the center of a small burst of laughter when her toad peaked it's head from under her witch-hat and snagged a fly or two from the hot, humid air of the greenhouse. And, while it didn't get her in trouble, it was an incident that caused her pale cheeks to flush red as she reached up and gently booped her toad's nose once, twice, and thrice more until he was once again well hidden under her hat and away from sight.

Once class was coming down, and the students had time to explore the greenhouse and ask questions on many different types of herbs and flowers. Aislin, however, like a couple of other students, decided to step outside to lift the hot, humid veil of the greenhouse, only to be greeted by a soft, cool breeze brushing against her slightly dampened face causing her to let out a heavy huff of air. Only to have an auditory croak come from under her hat, which caused her to release a soft giggle, "I almost forgot!" she took her hat off and leaned forward so that the toad could leap from her head before hopping off into the distance.

From her spot, the sounds of students grew and she heard the addition of the croaks of a toad. Deeply sighing, admitting defeat and getting up from her nap spot, she shoved her book into her bag and threw her bag over her shoulder. Anya lazily trudged from around the corner, slowly peaking before heading out, hoping that her spot would remain a secret. Seeing the coast was clear, she walked over towards the greenhouses.
Students gathered, she noted them, seeing a few familiar faces. However, distracted by taking in those around her, she heard the croaking again, looking down just in time to see a toad was hopping around where she was about to place a foot.
With a quick reaction, she hesitated, throwing herself off balance and faltering backwards. She caught herself before falling and looked down at the toad.
She pursed her lips and picked the little guy up, mumbling, "Be glad my owl isn't around." Anya looked from side to side looking for the toads possible owner, feeling a strong breeze now hit, whipping her hair about.
She lifted a hand to keep her hair from blocking her eyes. The wind was picking up, and the smell of a storm was present on the scents carried by the breeze. And something else that Anya couldn't quite place.

Cordelia managed to only traverse a couple of meters before her left foot decided to not work quite properly and cause her to stumble forward and begin a fall. She threw her hands in front of herself, forsakening her knapsack and sending it forward into a tall, thin, blonde girl who appeared to be mumbling to a toad. Cordelia gave up during the fall and just closed her eyes and took the hug with the grass. She hoped her knapsack didn't injure the poor girl or the toad.

Jax sprang into action, breaking into a sprint then leaping towards the commotion like a seasoned athlete at the height of his career. He careened through the air, gliding gracefully like a dove in the wind, his hair blown back by the breeze. Mid-air, he twisted his body and brought his knees to his chest, timing everything in his head to a millisecond so that it was perfect. A single bead of sweat glistened on his forehead.

Suddenly, he fired every muscle in his lower body, releasing the potential energy stored there and firing his legs forward like a spring. His feet connected with the falling knapsack, sending it flying with an excellently executed dropkick. He landed on his back with a thud, then got to his feet and dusted himself off.

"Are you okay?" Jax asked, leaning down towards the muddle on the ground. He wiped his brow, relieved, and picked up the toad that had almost been bonked by the rogue knapsack.

"Phew, I'm glad. That was a close one," he said, smiling, then added, "Oh, hey Anya, what are you doing here?" He knelt down, placing the toad gently back on the ground so that he could help pick up some of the things that had fallen from the knapsack. "I don't think we've met," he said, addressing the other girl beside Anya," I'm Jax. Slytherin third-year. Are you okay?"

Aislin, at this point, was scared. After having just seen her best friend almost get stepped on by an unfamiliar face. Then, while being held by that same stranger she'd hear mention of how the frog should feel lucky that the girl's owl wasn't around. And the thought of that having been the end of it simply would have been incorrect as, for a second time now, another near-death experience happened after but only a few small second from the last. This time, due to a stray, fallen knapsack which had thankfully been stopped by a powerful drop-kick from yet another stranger of who'd taken the liberty of announcing himself as Jax, of house Slytherin.

Nevertheless, Aislin approached those before her before slowly kneeling down to pick her toad, of who she'd just let down so that he could hop around for a moment or two as a means to use the bathroom and maybe catch lunch, from the ground. While kneeling over and partially reaching out, She'd speak very soft words came from her in a hushed whisper, "TΓ©igh ar Atlas, tΓ©igh ar ais chun codlata." As she spoke, the toad turned towards her before hopping into the safety of her hand, of where he sat in the entirety of Aislin's palm until she slipped it under her witch's hat.

Now that she knew that her friend was safe, Aislin quickly stood and looked to the male of who openly identified themselves by the name of Jax. "Thank you, really." as she spoke while carrying a gentle smile on her face, her accent carried a slightly-subtle twinge of her Irish background. "The name is Aislin, from house Hufflepuff." Extending her hand to the male, her face was sickly white from having just witnessed the very sudden and quickly played out series of unfortunate events that just occured.

The events that transpired happened so quickly, it was hard for Anya to believe what had just happened. First the toad that she nearly stepped on due to her own lack of attention, then the knapsack that was thrown at her head due to a seemingly clumsy girl that now laid on the ground, now Jax, one of her housemates that she had shared only a few conversations with previously, was pulling extreme stunts with a casual ease.
Anya hid the small smile that she would never let another person see, if she could help it, as she knelt down on the ground next to the knapsack that nearly collided with her. Looking around to see the eyes of other students that watched the scene unfold, she felt a tinge of embarrassment while sliding the few things that fell out of the knapsack back in. She muttered to Jax in reply to his question, "Oh, you know, just the usual."
The crowd was dispersing now that the fun was obviously over, and probably due to the incoming rain clouds that were stirring up the wind. In turn, Anya's focus left them and went to the girl that now approached Jax. She was younger and wore a distinct hat. She didn't recognise the girl but she heard her say her name was Aislin and that she was in Hufflepuff. And there was the reason she didn't recognize her; Anya was admittedly terrible about interacting with students from other houses, with a few exceptions to that rule.
Standing up, knapsack in one hand and her own bag in the other, she went to the girl that was sprawled on the ground and placed the knapsack next to her. She felt bad for the girl with orange hair on the ground. Anya scratched the back of her head and mumbled to her, "Hey, you alright?"

Cordelia squished her face slightly further into the ground. She knew others had to be staring and that at this point she'd been on the ground far too long... She heard someone approach and mumble asking if she was alright. Cordelia pushed herself up into a sit and peered up at the blonde standing near her, her face began to flush red and she could feel the heat radiating off her embarrassment. "I, uhm, yeah... I'm so sorry", she stammered out. She had weird French accent that left most people wondering if she was just trying to emulate an accent without ever have been to France. She stood up, lifting her knapsack on to her shoulder. "I'm really sorry, I, um, I have two left feet haha... I'm, uh, Cordelia, but, uhm, m-most people don't really like saying the whole thing and just call me Chord. Or even sometimes just Core. " She flushed a little again and hoped she wasn't being too awkward, but knew that she was. Cordelia shuffled her feet a bit and noticed the air was beginning to fill with the smell of an oncoming storm.

Aislin, after having greeted herself to the Slytherin male by the name of Jax she'd wait for a few moments before deciding that he was just going to ignore her introduction, or maybe he just didn't hear her? Either way; she wasn't inclined on repeating her introduction twice to someone who she felt wasn't interested in getting to know her. And, oddly enough, she'd already had two or three bad encounters with the Slytherin house. Why? She'd never know, but the few individuals of the Serpent house that she'd had ad previous interactions with, had made it clear that their intentions were -- Unkind, to say the least.

However, as her eyes began to slowly scroll past the other two females that were interacting with one another, Aislin decided to try her luck there. After all, it was a new year and that meant a time to make new friends! At least, she needed to. The entire last year she focused on nothing but her world and study. So, the closest thing she got to a, "friend," was the occasional study partner that helped her with a subject she was having difficulty with.

As she approached, she smiled. Her toad peeking from under her had once more, giving a playful croak once the two of them stood before the girl who'd randomly fallen, and the other one that almost stepped on her toad, "Hi." Her tone slightly risen to relay a friendly attitude, Aislin simply stood before her school made with her hands clasped in front of her, awaiting a response from the two.

She eyed on the girl that had just introduced herself as Cordelia. Anya shifted her bag that was slung over her shoulder, studying her with a careful precision. She was clumsy and seemed nervous. Then, Anya noticed the crest on the girl's uniform placing her as a Gryffindor. Really? This girl was a Gryffindor? She certainly didn't fit the bill in Anya's eyes. She was used to them being more brave, assertive, and, in the worst cases, a bit too brash for Anya's liking. But this girl, Cordelia, was different. Anya didn't mind her for the most part, as far as first impressions went anyways.

Shaking her head, she forced a small smile; an action she wasn't used to, "Anya," She introduced herself with a nodded, and then added, "And stop apologising. Accidents happen."

It was then she noticed another individual approach. Anya eyed her out of the corner of her eye and placed her as the girl that was interacting with Jax only a moment ago; Aislin, she recalled. The Hufflepuff with the hat. In thinking about the hat, Anya looked up at it and was caught a bit off guard. At first, she thought she was seeing things, and then she knew she wasn't. The small face of a toad was peeking out slightly from under Aislin's hat, the same toad that she had almost stepped on.

Holding her composure, she hoped that Aislin didn't hear the bit about Anya's owl. She turned to her, "Hey there," She then nodded to the toad in her hat, "Might want to keep an eye on that one." Extending her hand out to her, she spoke, "Name's Anya, by the way."

Jax was a bit disoriented after the sudden invocation of his drop-kicking abilities. He made sure everyone was okay but wasn't entirely coherent. He thought that perhaps someone had said something to him but he wasn't completely sure. Either way, a third girl had joined the gathering of students, one with a hat that seemed to tilt ever so slightly in the breeze.
Or perhaps there's a toad underneath, peaking out on the other side, Jax thought comically to himself.
He decided to shake off off his incoherence and attempt to socialize. Maybe one of them would be willing to study-buddy with him. Or goof-off when they were meant to be studying. He was honestly fine with either, so he rejoined the forming circle.

Cordelia was slightly nervous having three near strangers around her, however she remembered where she was and how being at Hogwarts was like being surrounded a great big magical family and there are no strangers. Which wasn't too far from her home norm. She smiled and looked at the new faces around her, "Hi, I'm Cordelia". She looked at the little toad under Aislin's hat and smiled, toads were definitely in her top ten of favorite animals, "What's the name of petit cher ami?"

Aislin smiled as she was introduced by all the other students, it was nice, to have actual social interaction. Although, she was a bit suspicious about the Slytherin girl... Although, it wasn't specifically her, just her house... Bad first experiences. "His name is Atlas!" she smiled as she took off her hat and lowered her head so that her toad could leap from her head into her hand where it'd sit and let out a friendly croak. "He seems to like you Cordelia." she smiled softly

'Atlas,' Anya thought, as she eyed the toad, 'That's an interesting name.' She watched the younger students interact, Aislin and Cordelia. Jax rejoined the group and Anya felt slightly more at ease as a familiar face was near, but looking up, Anya spotted the dark clouds rolling in. She enjoyed storms, loved them in fact, but from behind the safety of a window and sturdy walls. Then a small ripple of thunder sounded off in the distance. It was quite a ways off from the school, nothing to really be nervous about, but that rationality wasn't quite strong enough to fight through Anya's growing anxiety. Feeling her grip tighten around the strap of her bag, she shifted her weight from side to side.

She looked down to the group and wore the kindest smile she could muster, "Well, I hate to run, but class is calling and I don't want to melt in the rain." Anya gave a tip of her imaginary hat, and back peddled away a few steps before turning and jogging off. Anya hoped that her fidgety nature around the incoming storm wasn't too obvious to the younger students and that she kept her nerves controlled well enough.

Making her way into the castle, she was grateful for the fact she had woken up now to the sounds of students rather than the rumble of thunder. Relieved, she shifted her bag again, slightly slacking her grip on the strap and hurriedly strolled off to class; now she knew she had to go to her classes for the rest of the day.

As the storm started rolling in, it seemed as if the group that had come together over the toad, whose name, Jax had just learned, was Atlas, seemed to be dispersing. Anya started towards class, which seemed like a good idea. It was probably about to start raining. The breeze was picking up and bringing some ominous vibes with it. Plus, Jax had class as well.

"I should probably go too... I'm in class with her," he said, addressing Cordelia and Aislin. "It was nice meeting you!"

Jax smiled at everyone before hurrying after Anya to go to class.

It hadn't been the roar of students waking for their classes that woke Lys, nor had it been his friend throwing a pillow towards him as they'd left. Instead it was the distant rumble of thunder. Soft and gentle against the sky, it shook the old windows of the Ravenclaw tower, and he woke feeling at peace. Despite it not being uncommon for him to sleep in rather than attending his first classes, he was thankful for this particular morning. Storms were his favourite type of weather, and glancing to the window through his open curtains it was tempting for him to stay in and wait for the storm to draw closer.

But he also knew that Potions wasn't as easily ignored as his other classes. Even so, for a short moment he lay in the bed, his ears pricked and eagerly awaiting for the sound of the thunder. With each short strike he counts to himself, waiting for the familiar flash through the window beside his bed. Counting the thunder three times before he finds himself satisfied. Pulling himself from his bed, he ignores the sheets dropping half to the floor as he walks the short distance to his chest of drawers. Changing quickly into his uniform, he doesn't bother to fix his hair as he leaves his tie loose and his robes on their hanger. Instead beginning the short trek towards his next class.

Angela had already been awake for some time when the storm had started to roll in, so she stopped and watched the rain for some time before picking up her things and exiting the Ravenclaw common room to her first class. Dodging the mobs of students in the halls, she finally makes it there.

Aislin smile before everyone, starting with the girl named Anya, started to leave as a low rumbling started to set in above them indicating that a storm was brewing and ready to let loose at any moment. Although, while most sought out shelter to avoid the rain, "Okay then I'll see you guys-" before Aislin was capable of getting the rest of her sentence out she realized that those she was talking to had already left. "Later...?" a soft inhale of her breath lead to her cheeks to be puffed out for a moment until she'd look back to Cordelia. Releasing the air trapped within her mouth, Aislin smiled at the one girl that didn't up and leave at the first sign of a storm, "I named him Atlas because the letters he carries is probably the equivalent to holding up the sky for a small guy like himself." she let out a soft-hearted chuckle as her thumb caressed over the plump little toad that sat within the center of her palm and taking up the entirety of it as well as a little bit more.

Cerise sat on her bed in the girls slytherin dorm, petting her cat oddesy with a smile humming a soft tune which seemed to soothe the usually hyperactive feline who jumped after a small mouse, easilly catching it and eating it, Cerise petting oddesy as reward for ridding hogwarts of one less mouse "good job oddesy" she praised gently as oddesy rubs against her hand, his big green eyes staring up at her seemingly content.

Racing off to class, Anya quickly found her seat and plopped into her spot, grateful that she had beat the storm. She heard another rumble in the distance. But as it drew closer, she almost heard malice in the storm that approached. 'Malice,' she thought; it was a good word for it. Something as simple as a storm wouldn't set her on edge as much, but for some reason, this one was getting to her.

She glanced out at the clouds as they rolled in over the sky, blanketing it in darkness. She watched them as the rest of Divinations dragged on. Anya admittedly lacked the proper enthusiasm to care about the class as much as her others. History of Magic and Defence Against the Dark Arts were more her speed. And Apparition, now that she was able to take it being a sixth year. The class was soon dismissed, and Anya pulled herself to her feet. The storm was in full swing now, a raging storm at that, and it provided fair enough entertainment during class for Anya as her class dragged. She slowly packed her items away, taking her time as the rush of students going to their next class was easily avoided by waiting. She also had a free period for personal study and work, so there truly was no rush.

Glancing up she saw Jax, and the events of the morning resonated with her. Feeling a sense of intrigue, she threw the rest of her items in her back and ambled over to him. "Hey Jax," she called, aiming to catch his attention, as she approached, now standing next to him before continuing, "so, this whole morning thing, I'm not gonna lie here, that was kinda-" but her words were cut short as the storm whipped with a viscous ferocity at the windows to the classroom, shaking them violently before tearing them open. Anya could have sworn she felt the room shake as well, as the professor swished her wand without looking over to the window, closing it with an apparent ease. Shaking now, Anya felt that she was holding her breath. She released it slowly, reminding herself that she was okay, and that there was nothing to worry about. Rain was pouring in sheets, the room now had a puddle of water under the windowsill now and it was only open for a moment. She mumbled to herself, "The hell is going on?"
