Lila DiLago
Name: Lila DiLago
Nickname: Lights.
Age: 24.
Birthplace: Settlement of Scrimm, Thyrea.
Current Residence: Thyrea.
Birthday: Augmentia 5th.
Race: Human.
Appearance: Against the backdrop of grimm and dull Thyrean shades, Lila’s appearance stands out almost tauntingly so. Shoulder-length strands of electric blue-yellow hair shine ever-so-brightly, boasting the playful energy she wields within. Her brown eyes, though sharp, gleam in the same vigour, gazing at the world with interest and a modest hint of cunning.
Expressive as can be, Lila carries herself with a youthful whimsy, but her body reveals the dim, demanding reality of Thyrea. Years of physical labour sculpted a lithe body etched with various scars, markings and modifications that tell the wild tales of her life. Behind leather gloves hide calloused hands, toughened by the touch of steel and metal. She regards these rougher edges of her appearance as rewards, flaunting them as trophies won through hard work and diligence.
EQUIPMENT
VOLT | Portable Tesla Coil
A refurbished Sierran battery salvaged from a defunct Juggernaut, VOLT is a portable tesla coil capable of generating copious amounts of electricity over time. Worn comfortably on her back, Lila utilizes this power source to supply various weapons & tools through the wires extending from the coil.
SPARK | Stun Bat
A 30-inch amalgamation of metal that is no more than a blunt weapon on its own. When hooked up to Lila’s trusty tesla coil, however, it becomes a high-powered stun baton capable of dishing out frying shocks. 6 circular shock pads line the outer edge of the bat, with a 7th releaser present on the blunt end. A small dial pad allows Lila to change the shock intensity, varying between weak twitches to painfully stunning blows.
As menacing as SPARK can be in close-range combat, it functions not without danger. Requiring careful handling and a constant source of energy, the bat can be tricky to use and is prone to running out of juice should a conflict take too long to be resolved. Furthermore, the intensity dial has a known ‘tuning’ issue, with some shocks coming out at unpredicted power levels.
DAZZLE | Scrap Gun
Born from Sierran weapon parts and Thyrean waste, DAZZLE is a machine pistol-esque contraption created and utilized by Lila. Made to be versatile, the fully-automatic weapon is capable of firing various finer metal scraps (e.g., bolts, nails and similar materials) in a short-to-mid-range spread. A switch on the side of the gun allows it to be placed into a single-fire mode, sacrificing firing speed for some well-needed accuracy.
What makes DAZZLE all the more exciting is the second barrel sat comfortably under the primary firing force. This second slot is home to custom-built stun bullets, dart-like bolts that release a continuous electric shock. Capable of being accurately released at longer ranges, the bolts not only give Lila a bit more range, but also help in taking down important targets with (hopefully) non-lethal force. Unfortunately, the bolts are expensive to make, must be charged directly beforehand, and are slow to fire as only 1 bolt can be loaded at once.
FIREFLIES | Light goes boom
Lila's homebrewed recipe of a stun grenade. Following a brief delay, these cylindrical projectiles will burst into a wave of bright light, blinding souls unfortunate to be exposed to it. The effects of the grenade are determined by one’s proximity and exposure to the explosion, ranging from very brief blindness and slightly blurry vision to longer-term visual impairment.
TOOLS OF THE TRADE
Not as exciting as the other pieces of equipment in her repertoire, but nevertheless still incredibly valued. Wherever she goes, Lila is accompanied by a utility belt stacked with various tools useful for smaller-scale tinkering.
TALENT
TINKER
Self-acclaimed innovator and engineer, Lila is a capable tinkerer with an eye for resourcefulness. Years of hands-on experience have taught the entrepreneur a thing or two about the processes of creating, repairing and improving mechanical apparatus, all three of which she has since monetized gleefully.
Thanks to Thyrea’s ever-so-scarce working climate, Lila has become particularly skilled at being adaptive and creative in her craft. As a result, she is great at improvising with a shortage of resources, finding solutions where others may be stumped by a lack of options. Her ‘out-of-the-box’ means of working, however, does bring the necessary variability. Especially when it comes to extremely complex pieces, one is best off expecting a little imperfection here and there. At least you get a discount on repairs should anything blow up?
+ Imaginative, ambitious, compassionate, assertive, talkative, observant, gregarious, productive, self-confident.
- Stubborn, opportunistic, overbearing, sly, impulsive, sceptical, obsessive, messy, deceitful.
Easy to spot, difficult to forget—Lila is a creature of confusing charm and character. The smile on her face gleams with unorthodox ease and energy as she treads the Thyrean waste, resiliently stepping forth as if ignorant of her environment. In these lands, piled with junk and rubble, her being sticks out like a sore thumb.
Request of her once and you will pull much of the same conclusions. Clue one: she’s extraverted and gregarious, at times overbearingly so. Her voice runs smoothly and with confidence, speaking in nonchalant, endearing terms and tones as though you’re the dearest of friends even though you’ve never met before. Admittedly, it’s quite a loud noise, a bit rambly as well, but it nevertheless responds with attentiveness and an eye for detail. Your words are not lost in hers.
Then, when the talking stops, it seems as though you can visibly see the gears moving in her head. Prized for her talents in finding value within even the gloomiest piles of trash, Lila works with ambition in her eyes and chaos in her workplace. Her methods, while certainly unorthodox and difficult to follow, generally book innovative results, so no one dares to intercept the hasty flashes of ‘brilliance’ that animate her.
As the product comes to a finish, the chirpy voice awakens once again, slipping between the vigorous clangs of metal that beckon the finishing line. The inviting aura tightens slightly now, as suggestive words subtly attempt to sway the odds, making the deal more favourable, though not for you. Perhaps you see now that there’s an edge to the warmth, another side to the simplicity. Perhaps you don’t. Either way, the now scurrying Tinkerer leaves an aftertaste of ambiguity. On the one hand, it tastes sweet; of good service, receptiveness and kindness. On the other, it tastes bitter; of sly farces and cunning.
All in all, Lila is an extraverted, hardworking and creative soul whose Thyrean roots grow evident through the ‘crafty’ means with which she gets by. Currently, most people know her as a neutral party that will go wherever there’s business, but with a future so uncertain, maybe neutral opportunism will no longer be all too desirable.
Welcome to the ugly duckling known to all: Thyrea—the Realm’s living recycling bin. While gracious Orh shines in its fairytale-worthy mysticalities and diligent Sierra boasts its technological superiority, Thyrea—in all its mismatched glory—is just happy to be alive. There is one thing, however, that Thyreans possess that others don’t: anarchist freedom, yay.
Impaired only by the scarcity of resources, dangerous environment, violent and crazy bandits, territorial tribes, Sierran-Ohrian conflicts, and—well, you get the gist, Thyreans are free to be and do as they wish. “No dream is too big here.”, is what Alexander DiLago, ‘proud’ Sierran exile, would often bellow, his voice usually hoarse from shouting and dehydration. Viola DiLago, fellow ‘proud’ exile and connoisseur of dying of thirst, would happily nod along in agreement. Now, it doesn’t take a brilliant mind to see the faults in their philosophy, but they weren’t all wrong. Their dreams did come true, after all.
Dream number one: to survive. Following their involuntary arrival, Alexander and Viola put together their skills to discover the beautiful art that is living off other people’s losses. Their days were spent tracing after others’ footsteps, collecting leftovers and salvaging the treasures that were mistaken for trash. It was not the most glorious or opulent of lifestyles, but it kept them alive and in the good company of fellow ‘scavengers’. There came a day, however, where the DiLago’s dared to dream a bit further. Courtesy of Sierran cockiness.
Dream number two: to set up a shop. Another grandiose wish, needless to say. Old Jim—Ohrian outcast, group leader and surprisingly talented singer—even deemed it surreal. “How can you see a goldmine in these mounds of steel?” he would dismiss scornfully, but that didn’t hold the dynamic duo back. True, these piles of trash were worth nothing on their own, but with diligent care, they could be a lifeline. What a time to be ex-Sierran mechanics, to see the potential in these unassuming metals, and to have the skills to assemble their optimal worth.
Dream number three: to start a family. Now, one could reason that no one in their right minds would ever put a child on a plain so utterly horrible, and the DiLago’s would agree. So by the time this dream got its turn to be realized, they made sure to have built a world that was a bit less horrible for their offspring: the settlement of Scrimm. They now had tools and homes and transportation, so gone were the days of constant migration and sub-par scavenging. Hunger and thirst became rare wares, for their creations traded for sustenance aplenty. And Old Jim’s pessimistic rants? A pastime too, as there were now dozens of voices to drown him out. It was time for a new chapter, they had made it so. Say hi to Thyrea, Lila.
And say hi she sure did. Inheriting the powerful lungs of her father and the stalwart stamina of her mother, Thyrea’s new force of nature caused many sleepless nights and parental debates. After ear-shattering baby cries came a stage of hyperenergetic noises, and once those noises began to shape into words, forth came years of relentless questioning. As grey-hair-invoking these earlier years were, Lila’s parents encouraged the curious touch of her character, nurturing it into the same pragmatic gaze that helped them stay above water all this time.
Before Lila could even reach her early teens, it was already apparent that she had inherited the same passion as her parents. Her dearest memories compile day after day of leisurely tinkering and assisting her parents in their innovative endeavours. She loved to play around with the discarded items they scavenged, transforming them into mostly nonsensical contraptions. Time would push on though, and as her skills matured, so did her goals. One dreamy blueprint, however, she could never let go.
Snakes of sturdy metal carts spanning endlessly, yet moving so nimbly one could miss them within the blink of an eye. Lila had heard many stories of the grand constructions from her parents’ home, but this tale of ‘trains’, for whatever reason, stuck like no other. A resilient vehicle big enough to house many people, resilient enough to fend off many blows, and fast enough to see many places? It puzzled her why people seemed to not share her excitement. She wouldn’t let that discourage her though. No, in true DiLago fashion, she kept at it. One day, she would make a train of her own.
And that day would come, but at a cost. The gods decided that Scrimm had been a bit too lucky, a bit too fruitful. They invoked hesitance and fear into several trade contacts, and with it summoned forth a wave of shortage. Back were the days of hunger, thirst and security issues. Adaptation was inevitable.
In suffering, Lila’s dream seemed to be a solution. With her train, they could travel across Thyrea, make new contacts, bring back resources and potentially scout better living locations. It seemed a bit far-fetched, but with the support of her parents, operation SCRAPTEK was greenlit. Forth came Lila’s magnum opus: a sturdy metal vehicle, three carts long, manned by the most eager souls of their settlement. It wasn’t as big, fast or capable as the train of her family tales, but it would do. It would have to.
The first 6 months on the road were quite dark. Adjusting to constant travelling was hard enough, but add treacherous terrain and a failure to find trade contacts, and the challenge toughens. Lila began to realize that maybe, just maybe, she had been a bit too ambitious. Maybe they should’ve invested in other ideas, other people, instead of her and this ragtag bunch. As if things weren’t difficult enough, the universe came to humble them again and again until, one day, it overstepped. It was a deal-gone-wrong, they paid with the lives of two crew members.
It has been years since then, and Lila has made it a rule to never look back. These are better days now. They know what they’re doing, where they’re going, which people to work hard for and which to gently exploit with sly negotiation. These are happy times, and they managed to reel in three numbers over time as well! Surely, nothing could go wrong.
Hailing from the small southern Thyrean settlement of ‘Scrimm’, Lila DiLago is an only child raised by two Sierran exiles. Having inherited the family passion for mechanics and engineering, the young girl spent most of her days shadowing her talented parents, eventually learning how to tinker on her own. Her career of innovation had humble roots in nonsensical contraptions and semi-functional playthings, but time would mature both her skills and goals. Swiftly, Lila would grow to become a capable and hard-working addition to her people, though she secretly hoped to see more than just the same dozen faces every day.
Despite their best efforts, Scrimm had to face the same challenges as every other ambitious crowd in Thyrea, and it was not an easy battle. The loss of several trade partners and a resulting resource shortage demanded adaptation, posing as a bittersweet chance for Lila to realize her wish to travel and expand. Forth came SCRAPTEK, a band of eager youngsters that would take to the roads offering the fruits of Thyrean technology. Their means of transport? A beautiful 3-cart caravan assembly.
Rose-coloured visions of a prosperous future were quickly shot down by the harsh reality of the present world. Lost in Thyrea’s vast emptiness and the unexpected hostilities of other crowds, the first few months were especially hard on the crew. They reached an all-time low when two of their members were lost in a foolish deal-gone-wrong. The urge to turn around was stronger than ever, but they knew they couldn’t come home empty-handed. So, they kept at it until success finally found them.
The past few years, Lila has scoured the land with SCRAPTEK, their way forward now well-planned and perfectly adjusted to the plentiful customers along the way. Identified easily by their eccentric vehicle and characteristics, they’ve managed to make quite the name for themselves, for better or worse. Either way, the group stays strong, willfully ignorant to the tragedy that is likely to befall their lands.
