Bonfire Beach Bash 2024




Summer is in full swing in Harbour Heights. After a few weeks of spring showers and cooler temperatures, the forecast has cleared up enough just in time for the annual Bonfire Beach Bash!

The Beach Bash is operated as a charity to help provide emergency care for those effected by fires, floods, and storms during the tumultuous summer months. As always, the turnout is amazing. Join the citizens of Harbour Heights at West Point Beach to take a dip in the ocean, enjoy delicious BBQ run by the local diner, explore the oldest and only functioning lighthouse in the Heights Region, or enjoy a family friendly movie on the Sapphire Seas vessel docked nearby.

    August Young missed Autumnvale dearly. More importantly, he missed the feeling of being important. His fresh start in Harbor Heights was anything but noteworthy to the locals around here, and it stung - bad. Nobody looked at him as if he were a god here. No one idolized him like they did back home, simply because of his name. So what was he to do? Why, call up his father and go into business with him...as a sister company to Ignis, of course. Vortex would be the name of this new venture, and providing internet access to the often spotty reception in town was the name of the game.

    And August's father had also wanted him to find a girl to settle down with, and August had reluctantly found that girl. Alyssa had been somewhat unexpected, and their relationship was far from perfect, but hey, she'd be a perfect starter wife one day. Hell, his father had been married three times - and was working on a fourth marriage - and he turned out just fine. He idolized that man - one of just many people who had put Atticus Young on an ivory pedestal, towering higher and higher until those down below could barely see him anymore.

    Vortex had been an unexpected success, especially considering how the residents of Harbor Heights had reacted when they had first heard the news of some spoiled rich kid moving into town, offering an alternative to the slow internet speeds that had plagued them for so long. And, of course, he had purchased land to build the headquarters for his new operation. Was the new architecture jarring against the backdrop of a small town? Maybe to some. But August thought it was absolutely perfect. It would surely make his father proud to see it...if he would ever bother to come visit him.

    But tonight, as much as he wanted to stay in and work, Alyssa had begged him to go with her to some beach bonfire thing. And after some arguing and pleading, August had eventually caved in. So he headed directly from work over to the beach, rather unenthusiastically, if anything. He hated sand. He hated large groups. This was utter torture. He found Alyssa among the crowd, walking over to her. "What do we even do here? This seems beneath me and you know it."

Let it be known that Julia Perez was good at many things: she crushed tests with ease, could swim a kilometer faster than anyone she knew, she learned to sail as early on in life as she could, she opened her own highly successful dream business at just twenty eight. Julia was an accomplished woman, absolutely, but she was never on schedule.

Being so busy and juggling so many things in her life, Julia had simply resigned to the fact that no matter how much she planned, she always seemed to be two steps behind. A more logical person would unload a few things off their plate, maybe take on one less class or volunteer one less day or not agree to do a last minute dive when there was an event to set up for in less than five hours, but not Julia. Julia loved her work far too much to sacrifice it for some peace of mind or an extra five minutes for dinner. She could easily eat her Blue Sea Diner BLT on the short walk from her diner to the docks where her boat was currently parked and she could change in the cabin when she got there.

By the time Julia made it to the Sapphire Seas whale watching vessel, her wetsuit had nearly dried and her hair had begun to curl in the evening breeze. She's quickly pulled off her wet suit and was finishing buttoning up her top, captivated temporarily by a strange stirring beneath the waves, when she heard footsteps somewhere on the deck of the ship.

"Coming!" She called out, pulling herself from the spot on the edge of the ship.

Spinning around on her heels, her heart thudded a few times in her chest as she made her way out of the cabin and onto the deck. Was someone here for the movies already? Fuck, Julia had nothing set up, how unprofessional! Luckily, the anxiety dropped the second she laid eyes upon the person who had disturbed her oceanic admiration.

"Ah, the man of the hour!" Julia grinned, rushing up to Stellan and placing a soft kiss on his cheek. "Thank goodness you're here. I got an invite for a last minute dive and I've been running so late and I've barely had time to breathe today but it's okay! You're here!" Julia forced herself to breathe, worrying her anxious ramblings were going to make her sound insane. "Thank you for coming, by the way. You're doing me a huge favour helping me set up for this," Julia smiled warmly, "you did bring the equipment right? I have to start getting out the blankets and pillows but the screen is going to be set up here when you're ready."

Dallas Beck had been awake at 6am, in a random stranger's bed. She usually didn't fall asleep in anyone's bed but her own. And her own was currently the motel while she looked for somewhere to live and she had been accidentally falling asleep at other's places because it was often nicer than the motel. Swearing at herself, she tried to sneakily slide out of bed and grab her heels, purse, and other clothing items. Typically, after sleeping with someone, she 'slept' in one of their shirts and took it. Did this make her a thief? Probably. Did she care? No. It was a risky move considering that Harbour Heights was a small town and she only had been there for a few months. She shouldn't really be making enemies, but she was also desperate to slip out and get a cigarette.

Once she was safely out of the stranger's place, she pulled a cigarette out of her bag and lit it, while walking to her car. After driving the short way back to the motel, she slid into her bed and fell asleep - not waking up until 4pm. She groaned waking up, grabbing her phone and seeing the time. She had wasted the day. It didn't matter because she didn't start her job until the fall so she had 0 responsibilities but still. She had a text from her best friend and smiled, responding to the invite to the bonfire. Dallas loved an excuse to drink. It didn't start for another few hours so Dallas peeled herself out of bed, had some coffee, and took a shower.

Finally, around 8, she felt like a human again. Last night's adventures had been fun with the mysterious stranger but she had stayed up way too late with them. She had curled her hair, done light makeup, and put on a cute tank top with jean shorts. Dallas knew that this bonfire was another way of potentially meeting a hottie so she needed to look hot, but when didn't she look hot?

She arrived at the bonfire, shortly after it started. Not wanting to get there right on time like a nerd. It was minutes later when Bethie showed up. Dallas grinned at her and gave a little wave. Then Bethie offered Dallas a beer, Bethie just got Dal.
"Nah you're good, I just got here."
She said taking the beer and popping the cap off with her teeth.
"Well I got a new t-shirt for my collection if that tells you anything."
She bit her lip as she spoke.
"And they were hot, like, really hot, dude. I almost felt bad about taking their shirt."
Dallas emphasized the word almost.

Being back in Harbour Heights brought mixed emotions to Astrid. Sure, the main reason for her return was a better job opportunity and with that, more money in her bank account; and definitely there were more perks to that. She was closer to her parents, and she was no longer in a hectic city. Which, if she was being honest, she learned to love.

So while the city that saw her grow up remained the same, it was pretty obvious she had changed and was wondering if Harbour Heights would ever feel like a home once again or if would she remain feeling like a stranger the way she did right now.

Perhaps the main reason she was feeling so uneasy about being back was the eventual meeting with the people she grew up with and that awkward encounter with how she didn’t maintain any contact back home, but it wasn’t her fault she was doing a name of her own if she desperately wanted to long for the past she would never be the where she was professionally, for some people it would be like Astrid was some kind of egoist who only thought of herself. This could be true, but she needed to achieve her goals.

Although she wasn’t expecting to meet someone from her past so soon especially not after she woke up, because why her parents couldn’t tell her that the best friend of her younger brother still came to their home even after his brother moved out to another city? That way she could have avoided that awkward encounter when they both were facing each other without saying a word for a couple of seconds which felt more like hours until she realized the person standing right in front of her was no other than Jeremy.

So instead of being the mature adult in this situation and saying hello to him Astrid did instead was to close the door right in his face without saying a word and not go out of her room until she made sure he was done painting the door trims and out of her parent’s house. As she was some kind of teenager, but it wasn’t her fault that she happened to be in her pajamas and she would never let the best friend of her brother see her like that, because this was the same guy Astrid saw when he was a child and the last time he saw him he was still a dumb teenager like her brother.

But despite her embarrassing morning, she somehow managed to get her act together and still arrived at the bonfire, one of the traditions that the town had to offer every year. It wasn’t like Astrid was super excited about the event, but it wasn’t like she was against the event either. Maybe she could take a walk on the beach, grab a bite, and eventually leave. It sounded like a good plan, especially because it didn’t involve unexpected encounters.

    three blinks. hazy vision. a pounding head and a missed call from her brother is what chloe had woken from her slumber to. the time was 6:00 and her alarm went off as soon as her eyes opened. “shit.” she sighed, before dialing back to james, hoping that he would be able to pick up. straight to voicemail. she hated that feeling. that feeling of being unreliable. she hated knowing that he called when he could, and when she couldn’t answer, who knows how long it would be before he was able to call again.

    she rubbed her eyes, still a bit hazy and her feet hit the floor. her morning ritual was the same each day. brush teeth first - she hated the feeling of her teeth not being clean. she would brush them again after breakfast, but that’s besides the point. she then made her way to the kitchen, where her breakfast awaited her. a banana and iced coffee - pre-made, of course. brewing anything in the morning wasn’t on her to do list, and wouldn’t be as long as she had to wake up at 6 am.

    she put on her dark blue scrubs and headed to work. the bonfire was that night, her favorite thing was to go to the lighthouse. it overlooked the beautiful ocean, and looked even prettier at night.

    before long, her shift had ended and the bonfire was nearing its start. she straightened her hair that night, did light makeup, but didn’t put much more effort into her outfit. she put on a white tank top, a pair of tattered shorts, and a pair of square toed flip flops. not much else was needed for a night walk on the beach and a trip to the lighthouse.

    when she arrived at the beach, she noticed a few of the locals already gathered. her gaze shifted from them, though, as the gleam of sundown had touched the ocean horizon. the view was beautiful, and she was entranced. the cool ocean breeze brushed against her cheeks and ran through her golden locks, as the fire embraced her body.

    “i love this beach at night. it’s so pretty.” she whispered softly to herself, before grabbing a cold beer and taking a seat next to the fire, crossing her legs when she sat down and tipping it back.

STELLAN FOXGROVE
Stellan's life has always been a mess... At least in his own, his ex wife's, and his daughters perspective it had. He had once been a lively and passionate man but the death of his parents had basically ruined what little ambition he had in life. And the icing to the cake of his disaster of a life, had been his ex wife taking off to the big city with some man he had never met and taking his daughter with her. Some would say Abigail had been cruel for what she had done to Stellan, other's would say he deserved it. Because - why else would a 30 year old man's wife leave him if some sort of abuse hadn't been involved? Rumors in a small town spread like wildfire; "did you hear Patricia is pregnant with her 5th child?" "Oh my, how tragic of John's passing." "It's shocking that Stellan was capable of this sort of thing, poor Abigail..." "Apparently Abigail had a secret lover while she was with him." It all stuck in the mouths of people who barely knew him. All they saw was the once happy family. How Stellan would drive Niila to school every morning or how he picked up Abigail's favorite snacks while she was pregnant. To those who knew him, Stellan was a loving father. A loyal man. And a caring husband. But that never stopped the rumors from spreading.

It took about a year for the rumors to die out, no one knew the truth but Stellan - not even his own brother. For five years, he has spent living as a ghost to his past self. When he was once happy and working on figuring out what he wanted to do with his life. No one in town ever gave him a second glance after his divorce. He simply became the man in the shadows of the outdoor theatre. The man the town relied on for their summer movies and family outings. No one paid attention to the man until a month ago when Julia Perez smiled her pretty little smile at him when he hopped on the vessel to fix the speaker system. He became hooked to that smile, looking for every small excuse to fix something on the vessel for her, even if it didn't need fixing. Those fix-it trips soon became bringing her lunch trips because he knew how busy she became to even eat properly. Then the lunch trips became a simple question, "do you uh... whenever you're not busy that is, maybe want to go on a date?" His demeanor had been so nervous that day, he'd spent a week pepping himself up to ask her and to his surprise she said yes.

For the first time since high school he had asked a woman out and she said yes. And now here they were, a few weeks into dating. He liked her. She paid no mind to the rumors, which was something he felt obligated to clear up when he took her on that first date. He liked her a lot. It was like God, though Stellan hadn't believed in the being since he was a child, had decided to finally shine a light on his previously miserable life. While the pair are taking it slow, Stellan was falling fast. Julia was like a breath of fresh air.

So here he was, actually dressing in a somewhat decent shirt and jeans (which he never would have cared to do before) to go set up a projector at the vessel. Admittedly, the man had let himself go a little after the divorce. He had rarely shaved, grew out his hair, wore clothes that may or may not have been clean. But since that first date he had shaved, gotten a hair cut, wore clean clothes, and even busted out the bottle of cologne that Niila had "gifted" him for Christmas 6 years ago. He wanted to impress this girl, keep her and maybe heal from all that had been thrown at him. So, when he was ready to head out, Stellan left the house and hopped in his truck. The drive across town was never far so he arrived to the vessel when he said he would and grabbed his toolkit, projector screen, and projector from the box of the truck.

Balancing all the items in his arms, he made his way down the dock toward the boat and somewhat managed to get on without dropping anything in the water. Almost as soon as he had set the items down, Julia came around the corner and pressed her lips to his cheek, "hey." He said in a fond tone and hooked his arm around her to give her a light hug as he began her rambling. And he just let her, captivated by her every word as she went on and on until she needed to take a breath, "I brought everything you need. And before you're off bustling around the boat," he paused and took her hand, pulling her close so he could capture her lips in his. He kept the kiss tender but short and respectful. He didn't want to push boundaries with her, despite his need for her to be close every minute that he can get. When he broke away from the kiss he smiled again, "Alright, you got the laptop?" With that he began his work, setting up the projector screen, then the projector, then hooking up the laptop to the vessel speakers Bluetooth. He was quick to do all this as he knew she was in a hurry before movie goers arrived.

When it was all good, and the Disney+ was logged in for her to pick a movie, he backed up to lean against the railing of the boat, "so you can pick a movie. Do you know how many people are coming to watch?" He asked as she was setting up all the blankets and pillows - all maticulously placed for the guests. That was one thing about her, her life was so busy and wlel thought out that he found himself being more of a busy body these days rather than spending 80% of his evenings at the bar in town. She motivated him and they'd only just started whatever it was they were doing.

JEREMY COWEN
When it comes to the life of Jeremy Cowen, every day is a busy day. The young man has always been known as the outstanding citizen of the town, lending a hand to others whenever he can, working his overtime hours at the mechanic shop, and renovating his own house in his free time. Such a king, young man as he, Jeremy is always a busy body And that includes days like today where the whole town may be bustling, but at 5 am he’s up and wandering the streets looking for an old drunks dirt bike.

But that was the thing about him, no Matter the person or what the town judges them as, Jeremy only sees the best in the people even if they’re the worst and that is no different for Gordon. For years Gordon only did his best to shoo Jeremy away from helping him, even if the trellis of his house was falling down or the siding was peeling away or if Gordon was passed out on his front lawn, Jeremy was always there to help, to fix things even if Gordon didn’t want him there. Jeremy had been on his way to the Cho’s house when he had noticed Gordon passed out on his front porch and his dirtbike was nowhere to be seen. Of course he had lost it at some point the night before in his drunken stupor, so Jer took it upon himself to hunt it down.

With his other obligations though, he had to ditch his efforts in finding the dirt bike. Not that Gordon needed it that day anyway. So, eventually when the sun began to warm up the morning, Jer continued his way to the Cho’s, whom he’d known for many years and chose to help out whenever they needed it after their kids left for college or the city, because Mr. Cho had asked him to paint the peeling door trims in their house.

Each trim only took him about 20 minutes to get scraped and repainted, and after the second one was done the older woman invited him to sit down for some breakfast, knowing of Jeremy’s terrible eating habits (or lack thereof). Eventually when the breakfast and conversation was over, he continued painting with no distraction, that is until their daughter Astrid opened her bedroom door, the one he happened to be painting. He hadn’t seen her since before he graduated high school, so the surprise was written all over his face when she stood there face to face with him. And he couldn’t muster the words to say anything besides a simple, “hello.” But almost as soon as she had opened the door she closed it. It took a moment for Jer to recover before he continued on his work until he needed to leave.

The rest of his day was just about as productive as his morning had been. With more searching of the missing dirt bike in between his errands (though no luck finding it) Jeremy eventually deemed it time to head down to the bonfire to help set up. So, he stopped by his house and changed into a somewhat nicer shirt with some jeans and his regular corduroy jacket before heading down to the beach. Luckily the community was already there to help put together the activities, the mini bar for the adults, and the giant rented blow up bouncy castle water thing for the kids. There was much work for Jeremy to do but he helped out wherever he could until the party goers began to arrive. It was only then where Jeremy finally scarfed down a burger and grabbed himself a beer to relax from the busy day.

With the small talk and mingling amongst the townies, Jeremy couldn’t stop smiling in between sips of beer. And so many people were all together mingling, that he almost didn’t notice Astrid join in on the talk. So he quickly excused himself from everyone and made his way over, “hey Astrid, we didn’t get to talk this morning.” He gave a knowing smile as he stopped in front of her, “when did you get back to town? Sorry if my painting the trims woke you up by the way.”

Shiloh never really enjoyed beaches. The sand was uncomfortable on their skin and the heat invited too many people to show too much skin. It was an uncomfortable experience that they tried to avoid at all costs and under different circumstances, they would never be caught dead at some sort of beach party like the one happening that night. But Shiloh had promised herself that they'd get out more to events upon their arrival to Harbour Heights so there they found themselves, mingling amongst the crowd, nursing a rum and coke that was mostly rum with sand lining the insides of their boots.

Fucking sand.

By the time Shiloh got to the beach after their shift running wildfire watch for the fire hall, she was honestly exhausted. Her job, despite being brand new, required them to be up early and stay out late, leaving little time for anything else other than a drink or two out, or bringing someone attractive home for a quick dine and dash. That was precisely what happened last night, with Shiloh waking up in the morning with her guest (Houston? Dallas? Some sort of Texan name they couldn't remember) long gone and one of their shirts missing from the closet.

How serendipitous it was that shortly after Shiloh arrived at the party, there was the Texan somehow wearing the shirt that was missing. Shiloh moved closer, listening in for a moment and grinning deviously when they realized that Miss Texas was talking about them.

"Don't worry about feeling bad," Shiloh purred with a laugh, their hand winding up beneath the flowy fabric of the shirt to touch Miss Texas's lower ribs, "it looks better on you. Thanks for the fun last night, call me if you ever wanna play again. I'll see you around, Texas."

Pulling their hand away, fingertips carefully grazing over the pale skin of her side, Shiloh offered the pair a wink and walked off to polish off their drink and grab a pulled pork sandwich from the BBQ station near the bonfire.

It was 6am when Charlie finally was able to leave the hospital, fresh off her 12-hour shift. The night shift was rough as she hadn't done these hours since she was an intern. The hospital was so small, she didn't have a choice. Her schedule rotated with the other doctors, but most of the time, Charlie was the only doctor in the ER in her shift, which made things interesting to say the least. Charlie's office was in the corner of the ER and she was usually able to catch a few winks of sleep if there was someone else there too. Sadly, last night, she had been solo.

Charlie knew about the bonfire tonight and was dreading it for 2 reasons. 1. She was on call and if anyone got hurt, she would have to go to the ER to deal with it. 2. She was being forced to go by her mother. Charlie's mother, Eliza, had insisted that Charlie go, practically begging her. She couldn’t really argue as she did need to get out and interact with people outside her coworkers and patients. Plus, Eliza had offered to watch Atlas. Charlie and Atlas literally lived with her parents so they watched him often but Eliza had been persistent.
Especially because Charlie had essentially been a recluse since James died which was nearly 3 years ago. It didn’t help that she was a surgeon and an ER doc because doctors without trauma were already busy enough.

So here she was, getting dressed to head out to the bonfire. Her family's house was on the beach so she just needed to walk over. She had put on a striped shirt, jean shorts, and a black bow in the back of her hair. She twisted her wedding ring as she looked at herself in the mirror. She didn't have the heart not to wear it. Once Charlie was ready, she kissed Atlas's head before leaving and saying,
"Bye baby, I'll see you tomorrow morning."


Atlas hugged her and it had warmed Charlie, it was the reassuring touch she needed. She grabbed her pink clutch and headed towards where the bonfire was. She wouldn't be able to drink tonight as she was on call but that didn't mean she couldn't socialize. Charlie walked to a cooler and grabbed a soda, opening it and looking out towards the beach.

CHRISTINA BROWN
Christina was happy the it was finally summer. For a teacher, the school year was always full of early mornings, loud kids, and basically the same work over and over again until summer rolled around and freedom was on the horizon. Which is why summer was always Christina’ favorite season - not that she Hated her students or anything, but Christina liked being able to drive into the city and play shows or do the live music at summer events. It was always nice to show her creative freedom in the summer time. She’d only moved to Harbour around five years beforehand, and already it was so much nicer getting out of the south with all the country music and twang of the towns people she grew up with.

One thing she hadn’t expected though, after her family completely shunned her for her lifestyle, was to re-meet her uncle Tex. Not that her family Had been close with him in the first place, but she faintly remembered the funny guy from when she was young. Her parents though never liked him for whatever reason, and i wasn’t her business to ask him when the two began bonding when she arrived to town. But very quickly Tex had become the father figure that her own dad refused to be. She would go bug hum on her days off, bring him leftovers when she “accidentally” made too much, and simply talk his ear off about whatever issues arrived within her life.

So it was no surprise to her when Tex agreed to let her borrow the karaoke machine. She wanted to do some sort of fun music thing for the bonfire, and no one loved karaoke more than small town people. So, after cleaning up around the house in the morNing, then shower, then dress, she eventually made her way on down to the bar the man ran. The soft music was already playing through the speakers, and she knew the old man was somewhere in the bar. Pushing through the kitchen she search around for him until she spotted the familiar hat, “hey pops. Wanna help me carry it to my car?” She knew he couldn’t say no to her, so she moved to where the old thing was sitting in the corner of the main bar and unplugged it from the wall, “on second thought I’m gonna disinfect it first…”

Quickly, as if the place were her own home, she went to the back again and grabbed some paper towel and Lysol spray to dust and disinfect the thing, “funny how old machines like this one run on for decades but the mini one I bought for my class Conked out within a month.” She mused as she crouched in front of it and began to wipe it down, “that thing was like, a hundred bucks too.”

    Bethie had twisted the cap off to her bottle of beer, tossing it in a nearby trash can before taking a long swig from the longneck bottle. God, she needed that right now. Being sober was totally for the birds. She didn't know how sober people did it - if she had to be sober for an extended period of time, she'd probably lose her mind. But she had nothing to worry about there - she was free to do whatever she wanted to do.

    Before she had the chance to reply to Dallas, the unnamed hookup partner had made their way over to them, clearly flirting with Dallas. After they had sauntered off, Bethany turned back to her best friend. "Damn, they're hot. If you hadn't got to them first, I definitely would have stolen their shirt too." She took another sip from her bottle, watching the mysterious stranger disappear into the night. "Okay, now you've got to dish. Where did you meet them? Do they have any siblings?     Megan was ecstatic about the bonfire happening tonight. She'd heard that it was an annual tradition in Harbour Heights, and she couldn't wait to participate. In the couple months she'd been in town, she hadn't befriended as many people as she'd have liked. Megan's hopes were high, so she did make a few friends in town, she just really wanted to get out and make more. Since she'd gotten to town she'd gotten quite busy with work, so she hadn't been able to explore and socialize as much as usual. But, tonight seemed like the perfect opportunity.

    She spent most of the day at the legal offices working, reading up on a case about water contamination in a nearby town. Time flew by as she became more and more invested in her work, and before she knew it it was time for her to get home to get ready for the bonfire. She changed into something a bit more casual and fun than her usual office clothes and headed over to the beach. When she arrived, there was already a good amount of people there, the festivities ramping up.

    Megan didn't realize how awkward it would be to come to a big event alone when she didn't really know anyone. Fortunately, she tended to look on the bright side of things. She could make friends! She wandered around for a while, making small talk occasionally, greeting the couple people she already knew. She attempted to make her way into conversations to try and befriend some people, but everyone seemed pretty occupied with people they already knew, and she didn't want to seem annoying.

    Wandering a bit more, she found herself on the outskirts of the festivities. Near her was a man sitting all alone, playing with a squirrel. Megan laughed softly, looking on as he interacted with the squirrel gently. He seemed sweet, so she decided to approach him. "Cute squirrel you have there," she said with a smile. "Do they have a name?"

Alyssa was excited, even though her boyfriend, August was not. She had wanted to go out for weeks but since August and her had gotten back together for the millionth time, she had been subjected to staying at home while he worked, and worked.

And worked.

She was tired of sitting at his place and waiting for him to pay any attention to her. All he seemed to care about is making money, and nothing else. Especially not her which is why she was pushing for them to actually enjoy things together. He promised this time that he would change and she believed him. She loved him, and wanted to be with him...even if he hurts her. She knows that there are some good in him, she has seen it a few times. The sweet side of him that not many people cared to even try to see. Yea he may be rough sometimes but she knows he loves her.

And she loves him too.

It took a few hours and several arguments to get him to come but she had done it. Alyssa grinned as she looked out at the scene in front of her. She loved this, summer beach, bonfire, people all around. It seemed like the perfect place to find some friends and have some fun. She was waiting for August when he strolled up to her. Rolling her eyes as she open her mouth
"Aug, you know the reason people don't like you, because you say things like that. This isn't beneath you."
She states crossing her arms and turning to him.

"It's a party, enjoy yourself, mingle with the people who are giving money to your company so they would actually like you, and not for your business to the town. "
She told him as she grabbed his hand
"Plus we haven't had fun since we got back together, not at least without a bed. You promised you would try things my way remember?"

Dallas was actually shocked at what had just happened. Of fucking course when she was talking about her hot hookup, THE hookup heard her. It was hard to get Dal to blush, but she blushed in that moment. Especially when her ribs were touched.

That didn't last long because the hot, mysterious stranger called her Texas. Fucking Texas. Dallas was about to retort but the stranger had already disappeared.

Dallas turned back to her best friend and said,
"Did that actually just fucking happen?"
She shook her head, scoffing at herself.

"Um, the killer whale, I think. Not totally sure, last night is a blur. I'll get info for you, maybe I'll ask Chloe, she always knows everything about everyone."
Dallas paused before she spoke again,
"Yeah dude, those shitheads don't deserve you. I wanna punch 90% of them in the dick."
Dallas smiled when Bethie offered her a cigarette,

Dallas happily took the cigarette and pulled a lighter out of her pocket.
"So what's new with you? Any interesting things I've missed?"

chloe’s gaze shifted from the fire when she saw the interaction between bethany, dallas, and shiloh. shiloh’s advances toward dallas, the reaction to said advances made her chuckle, tipping back her beer as she smiled.

she perked up when she heard her name come up in conversation. “oh, shiloh?” she asked, gesturing with a head nod toward shiloh.

“actually, i don’t know much about them, i know they’re a pilot.” she whispered, before continuing.

“they’re actually quite new here, i haven’t really spoken to them much at all. sounds like we have a real mystery person, dal.” she said before chuckling softly.

“they’re bold as fuck though, rolling up to you like that. that’s real.” she giggled, before tipping back her beer again.

she turned her head and caught a glimpse of august and alyssa arguing. the pair were constantly in a break up cycle, so it was no surprise that they were arguing.. again. she wouldn’t be caught staring and gawking though, considering they were both pretty successful residents of harbour heights. she wouldn’t want to make a terrible impression of herself.

she turned back to dallas and bethany, before holding up her beer. “i’m up for seconds, you guys good?” she asked, before tilting her beer toward the bar.

The smell of salt and the warm breeze of summer was a reminder of her past, and it almost felt nostalgic for Astrid. It was reminiscent of the past on how this place felt like home. She started watching everyone around her the small talk, the giggles of everyone, and the camaraderie of everyone in town that made her feel like a stranger, and it was obvious after ten years of being gone it was obvious that everyone had moved on just like her. Perhaps it wasn’t the best idea of coming just to feel like an outcast.

“Hey Astrid, we didn’t get to talk this morning.” A voice called to her, and she immediately knew that it was Jeremy, mostly because he was the only person she saw that morning besides her parents. It was strange to talk with him, not because she felt uncomfortable, but because it was still surprising how much everything and everyone had changed. Jeremy wasn’t the same teenager she last seen before she went to university. He now looked older, more manly, but somehow that kindness remained in him. But it was obvious because they were younger, and just like him, Astrid also changed. She was older and more mature than she was before she left Harbour Heights.

“I arrived a couple of days ago, got a job offer, and that’s why I moved back. I was just settling into living with my parents again.”
She said with a small shrug.
“You didn’t wake me up. I just wasn’t expecting visitors and my parents didn’t mention anything. That’s why I was surprised when I saw you.”


Astrid knew that Jeremy wouldn’t leave her side. He was the kind of person to always be there for someone, even if that person didn’t ask for help like Astrid at that moment, so perhaps the best she could do was to continue the conversation.
"I am assuming you never left, since it seems you are comfortable with everyone. Although I am surprised. I always thought you and David would end up somewhere else. You know the two best friends living their years of youth away from this small town. So it was unexpected to see you here."

The motel was almost as quiet as it had been the night before when Eleanor first got into Harbour Heights. Maybe all of Harbour Heights was this quiet, she thought as she crossed the parking lot and made her way towards West Point Beach. After some of the big and bustling cities she had visited, the quiet was a welcome change.

She pulled up her phone to double check the directions to the beach, opening up her twitter DMs out of a nervous habit. She re-read the last message from Ollie, who was the reason she was leaving the motel - the reason she was in this town to begin with.

Ollie had invited Eleanor to Harbour Height’s “Beach Bash” as a way to “get integrated in the community before we get to work”. Eleanor knew Ollie was also a journalist, but that was about all she knew. She didn’t even know what story Ollie had brought her here to work on. That fact didn’t bother Eleanor too much, however - Ollie was fun to talk to, and it wasn’t like she had anywhere else to be. This bonfire would probably be fun, and good for her to get her bearings in the new town.

The beach was closer than Eleanor thought it was - the quiet town steadily became louder as she came into view of the beach festivities. Grabbing a cherry soda from one of the diner stands, Eleanor watched the festivities around her with interest. It seemed to be a close-knit community; families with small children sitting around eating food, groups of people mingling about as they partook in the various activities offered on the beach. Eleanor could visualize the blog post she could write already in her head.

But Eleanor couldn’t get too comfortable with the festivities happening around her. She was here to meet Ollie, and Eleanor had no clue what they looked like.

She hadn’t exactly known how to bring it up in their conversations - asking outright felt weird after they had been talking for the last couple of months, and Ollie knew what Eleanor looked like already from her profile picture. Ollie’s profile picture, a sunset behind what seemed to be the West Point Beach Lighthouse, was beautiful, but not exactly helpful for locating them on said beach.

Eleanor looked around as she sipped at her drink, scanning all the faces around her as though she would magically be able to tell which one was Ollie. The other journalist being nonbinary also didn’t help Eleanor - they could look however they wanted, meaning that they could be anyone.

The only way she was going to find Ollie, Eleanor surmised after a few minutes, was by waiting for them to find her. Until then, she decided to do exactly as they had suggested: integrate herself. Maybe enjoy herself too, in the process.

The Annual Bonfire Beach Bash, the shift that no cop wanted to work but someone had to. This year Camila Martinez had the misfortune of working it. The town was generally a very safe community so there was never anything to do other than make sure no one got too drunk. Cami wasn't normally assigned to do this kind of work but the station was short staffed at the moment ever since her mentor went on vacation. Don't get her wrong, the man deserved the vacation, he was one of the most hard working individuals on the HHPD force, but it did mean that she got stuck doing patrol work in his stead.

So instead of enjoying the beach bash, as much as one who hated the beach could anyway, Cami was overdressed and wandering around making sure....no one littered apparently? "Sir, there's a garbage ten feet over there. Please keep our beaches clean." She did her best to keep a smile on her face and her tone friendly and not exasperated. Checking her watch Cami saw that she still had several hours left in her shift and couldn't help but pinch the bridge of her nose. Sand was already filling her boots and her ankles were starting to hurt from walking in sand with shoes on. Marty, her mentor, owed her a massage when he got back.

Cami trudged her way over to the bbq stand to get herself a sandwich as she hadn't eaten all day. She had a terrible habit of forgetting to eat before her shifts. Her coworkers at the station were constantly getting her food just to make sure she was okay. She was grateful for her little family in the force. They looked out for her when she felt like the world wouldn't look out for her. Now she was making sure she was taking care of herself so a quick dinner break wouldn't hurt, right?

Once Cami got her food, she turned around to get out of the way and crashed right into someone with bright blue hair. Cami had a bit of a history being clumsy and it looked like she had done it once again. "Oh my god, I'm so so sorry!" she exclaimed turning back around to grab a handful of wet wipes and handing to the person. "This probably looks so bad on the HHPD, again I'm so so sorry." she looked up at the person and realized she didn't really recognize them. She had seen her in line at the coffee shop before but thought she had blonde hair not bright blue. Maybe Cami was misremembering.

    Alyssa's enthusiasm for the bonfire was not reciprocated by August in the slightest. He was just wasting time that could have been spent making money. Sure, he was wealthy in his own right, thanks to a trust fund he had matured into at twenty-one, but he wanted to make his own fortune instead of relying on that of his father's. The more time he spent at Vortex meant that he'd make more money - and forge his own empire in the process. He couldn't understand why Alyssa was so eager to have a night out surrounded by a bunch of drunk strangers. Sometimes, he thought that he was happier when they weren't together. Not having Alyssa around would grant him the freedom to do whatever he wanted to instead of what she wanted him to do.

    But unfortunately, they had gotten back together. He just couldn't stay away from her, no matter how hard he tried. Alyssa was willing to stick by his side no matter how badly he treated her. Sometimes he wondered if he truly loved her, or if he was just using her to pass the time. This isn't beneath you. Yes, it was, and she knew it just as much as he did. August wasn't in a mood to argue in front of everyone tonight, so he kept his mouth shut. He eventually relented upon seeing her downtrodden expression. She knew damn well that her pouting would get her whatever she wanted. "Fine, I guess I'll try to enjoy myself. I won't promise you that I will, but for you, I'll try."

    The things that he did for Alyssa. If she were anyone else, he wouldn't have even considered coming to this beach bash. But since it was her, and they were on seemingly good terms again, here he was, making a complete ass out of himself. He'd need to get his clothes dry cleaned after this - if he got so much as one grain of sand into his penthouse, he'd lose it. "Come on, let's go order some tropical drinks. That is the theme for tonight, right? I mean, we're on a beach. I'd expect them to serve a piña colada, at the bare minimum." The bare minimum. That was what he was doing here. And if anyone gave him any shit for it, he didn't care. As long as Alyssa was happy, then he was happy...ish.

hearing bethany’s question for gossip made chloe chuckle. bethany was a sucker for gossip, but chloe wasn’t a kiss and tell type of person. she really didn’t have anything going on in her life at that moment, so she replied:

“same shit, different day for me. there was a dog that got loose at the rescue a couple of days ago, but other than that everything’s been peaceful.”

she then glanced at august and alyssa again, as they were heading to the bar.

“yeah, it’s kind of sad. they’ve been going through it for a while,” she said, before shrugging her shoulders.

“i mean, alyssa and i haven’t really talked since high school. since she started to get big, we just kind of fell off. but i remember some of the things she used to tell me about august, she says he has a good side though and that he’s just trying to be successful. she understands that, being successful herself.” she whispered with a sigh. it really had been years since they spoke last, and here they were about to run into eachother again.

“come on, beth, i’ll get us a beer and i’ll bring dal one too just in case.” she said, before heading to the bar.

she couldn’t help but to speak to alyssa, just to be kind and let her know she was thinking of her. “hey lyss, it’s been years!” she exclaimed. “just wanted to say congrats on your success, i know you’ve worked hard.” she said, with a warm smile. afterward, she grabbed another beer for herself and dallas from the bar glancing at august, she just gave him a warm smile, an unsaid ‘hi’, and walked back to where dallas was sitting.

“maybe we should call shiloh back over here, get the tea straight from the horse’s mouth,” she whispered with a giggle. “come on, you know you want to.” before handing her the beer that she had grabbed for her.

plagued with worry toward hannah, jack decided to call jenny for an update. he knew she was okay, but he always had a guttural feeling that something could go wrong. an undiagnosed allergy? a pool drowning? someone broke in and took her? his mind always raced 10000 miles a minute when it came to her. he got up from his seat, dialed jenny, and paced while she was on the phone.

four rings and finally jenny had answered, and the bustling in the background paired with hannah’s laughs gave Jack the reassurance he needed.

“everything goin’ good? you havin’ fun baby?” he asked, a little bit of twang in his voice.

“yes daddy, we’re having fun! it’s okay!” she said with a giggle, this made him smile a warm smile and let out a sigh of relief.

“okay, baby. talk to you later.” he said warmly, before hanging up the phone. right as he hung up the phone, his eyes still on the call screen, he bumped into a woman.

“shit, sorry ma’am, just was on the phone with my daughter.” he said sheepishly glancing at her before realizing that he had made her spill her soda on herself.

“damnit, i’m really sorry. here, let me get you some paper towels or something to get that off of you. again, i’m sorry.” he then offered her paper towels to clean herself off.

“i’ll tell you what, i’ll grab you another soda too. my daughter’s at home with the babysitter, had to call to check in and i guess i got so distracted i didn’t even realize you were there.” he said with a nervous grin before grabbing her another soda.

he finally paused and got a good look at the woman he bumped into. she had piercing green eyes, and a short blonde bob. her lips were the perfect shade of pink, and she looked nothing like his ex wife. that was the best part. she was admittedly attractive to him, so he figured he would at least introduce himself if nothing else.

“i’m jack, i work here at the sinclair auto shop. i’m new to town, i came to this beach bash thing to kinda socialize and put myself out there. not really used to that, but i’m willin’ to give it a shot. and you?” he asked, gesturing his hand for a handshake.

Before Charlie realized what was happening, her soda had been dumped all over her. Charlie felt a small surge of anger wash over her but Charlie, being the mom of a toddler and a doctor, took a deep breathe before reacting. Coca Cola was actually one of the best things that had been dumped on her, considering.

When she looked up, she saw a handsome blonde man. She smiled when he mentioned his daughter, the momentary anger fleeting away.

She took the paper towels and blushed a little.
"It's okay, I have a 2 year old."
Charlie didn't usually volunteer that she had a son, but since the man had talked about his daughter, she felt comfortable mentioning Atlas.

"Honestly, that's one of the best perks of my parents being my son's babysitter. But I'll take you up on the soda"
She said with a smile and then continued,
"Normally, I'm more fun than this, I'm just on call tonight and have to be ready to bolt at any moment."
She motioned towards the new soda he had grabbed her.

She took his hand and shook it, still smiling at what he was saying,
"Well, welcome to town. I'm Charlotte, everyone just calls me Charlie, I'm an ER doc and a trauma surgeon at the hospital."
She paused before speaking again, her heartbeat quickened but she decided fuck it and said,
"
I'd be happy to show you around sometime, might be nice for me to reacquaint myself as I just moved back to town."


Charlotte was nervous to ask this handsome man, practically on a date. She didn't ask anyone to do anything, but this man just had a certain charm about him.

"Also, you might know one of my brothers, Jude Holloway, he rides a motorcycle and is always trying to fix shit on it himself which never actually works."

as the woman started to speak, he realized she was friendly enough to not cry over spilled soda. he let out a slight sigh of relief, and then she mentioned she had a son, and that her parents were his babysitter. jack chuckled and shook his head, before admitting: “yeah, unfortunately even if they were alive, my parents weren’t the best role models,” he laughed with a sigh, before continuing:

“i don’t think i’d ever let my parents watch my daughter, if i’m bein’ honest.”

“charlie, huh? a doctor?” he asked, before giving her a sly smirk. “honestly before long, i’ll probably be a regular considering my line of work.” he said snickering.

then she said she wanted to show him around sometime, a bold gesture from her in his mind. something told him to take her up on it, though he was a bit hesitant. “i mean, sure, that’d be great.” he said with a warm smile.

then she mentioned jude holloway, who was a regular at the shop. he shook his head and laughed. “that idiot’s your brother? man oh man. he came in last week with the most rigged set up i’ve ever seen.” he scoffed, before continuing “no offense, of course.”

“yeah usually i’d have myself a couple of drinks, sometimes i can get a little rowdy, but i told hannah i’d come home to her tonight,” he muttered, smiling. “but we’re here to socialize, so let’s socialize.”

“where’d you move from? you can tell a lot about a person depending on where they’re from.” he questioned with a slight arch of his brow.

She smiled when he said yes to showing her around and her fluttering heartbeat started to slow. She nearly snorted when Jack talked about her brother.
"None taken, Jude's a dipshit. And I can't wait to tease him all about his janky bike."
She laughed a little as she spoke. Her family was always ribbing each other as it was pretty much how they showed their love.

"Rowdy huh? I'd love to see that sometime."
She said lightly with a flirtatious tone and then added,
"Hannah's a beautiful name, how old is she?"


"I grew up here, stayed till I graduated high school, then went to New York and did my undergrad at Columbia. I met Atlas' dad there. Then, I did med school at Duke in North Carolina. I left for a variety of reasons, but I couldn't leave soon enough. I went to Boston to do my internship and residency. Boston was my favorite. But it was a challenge to raise a toddler without any help so I landed back here."
She was hesitant to mention James. Very few people knew exactly what had happened and it took a lot to get Charlie to talk about it. She didn't even talk to her own family about it. After a moment she said,
"So what do those locations reveal about me?"


Charlie felt like she had talked about herself too much, so she decided to switch the conversation back to him and asked,
"What about you? Where are you from? And what made you and Hannah chose little old Harbour Heights of all places to land?"
