Maybe your character is on a stakeout mission, or some kind of personal mission - there is (supposedly) a commanding officer in Drumleth.
Maybe they woke up a few days after being ambushed on the road?
Maybe the sword got them in trouble, and they're at a military tribunal being charged??
Maybe the sword was stolen, and you've just tracked down the thief??!?!?!
Maybe they're drinking at a tavern, and some punks come in and are like "HEY! YOU DID ________, WE'RE GONNA BEAT YOU UP!" and then you kick their asses?
Just some spitballing.
